The Elephant & Castle Pub in Kensington and Chelsea

Easily the best pub in Kensington and now with the relatively new management it's got even better. The manager is very conscientious about customer service and handels it with a professional calm manor. The staff behind the bar and in the kitchen are by far the best in any pub I have been to never mind Kensington. I've never seen so many staff for the size of the bar ( I could mention much larger pubs in the area that have only one staff which drives me crazy). Food is on point and now they are doing Sunday roast which are perfect for size, quality and value. The chef is always trying to improve the recipes and you can tell he really cares about being the best he can at his job. The location is the best. Tucked away in a residential street, so quiet and yet a minutes walk to the high street and tube station. It's a very traditional pub and very cosy. Huge range of characters from all over the world drink and eat here. 100 % my favourite place to go.

If you are looking for a quiet meal not the place for you. Ordinary small pub tables to eat at close together. However, it had a good atmosphere, friendly locals and good service. Food fairly sure was pre-prepared but was tasty but as always on cold plates. I always say that no London pub ever "great food" just reasonable with inflated London prices.

I have made two visits this month. The first was good, we booked a table and the sandwiches were decent. A bit on the pricier side, but I get we are in Kensington. It’s a very small place so recommend booking. The second visit we did not book and two people hogged two tables just for a drink (despite being there together talking) and we wanted food, and they refused to move. I would suggest staff need to keep an eye on this sort of thing as it’s such a small place they need feet through the door and losing customers because of a few rude people isn’t great for them. I appreciate the risks of not booking but there was space, sad we couldn’t use it! Not marking down because of this but worth noting as booking is essential if visiting in your lunch hour.

My wife and I stayed in Kensington last week up the block from The Elephant & Castle pub. The food was excellent. My wife had the meat pie and I had the chicken and mushroom pie. Both delicious. They have a great selection of beer and cocktails and the staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very good and I highly recommend going there.

Absolutely fantastic experience at the Elephant and Castle pub in Kensington! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure all of our needs were met throughout our visit. All of the dishes we wanted were available and prepared to perfection. So delicious! The ambience was lively, yet comfortable, which worked best for our party! I'll recommend this gem to my friends and I'll definitely return for another wonderful evening!

Lucky enough to come across a nice little pub with great selection of beers and great quality dining as well. Not to mention top-notch service that came along with it. Pretty rare to find gems like this in modern day London. Definitely worth another visit next time.

If you're exploring the Kensington area, this is a great place for lunch. We came from Kensington Palace and although it requires a bit of a detour (it's a couple blocks up from the high street), it was worth it. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and good pub food. We had their pies and really enjoyed them!

This was a great dinner spot after a day of touring London. I had made reservations so when we got there, we found a sign on a table with my name on it! We enjoyed our dinner and especially the sticky toffee pudding for dessert! The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We called in here because we were told it was an old traditional style pub serving decent food. When we sat down at 3:40pm we were told if we wanted to order we would have to be quick because the kitchen is closing at 4:00. The steak and ale pie was recommended as ‘award winning’ and a chicken in a mild cheese sauce pie on the specials menu was also pointed out. I went to the bar and ordered one of each, together with a pint of lager and a glass of wine, the total of which came to £45.82.The food came very quickly, which is never a good sign in my opinion. Word to the wise, if you’re going to recommend pies to northerners you need to up your game. The steak and ale was tasteless and we struggled to find much filling in the chicken one, mostly just dry bland pastry. Very disappointing. Someone came to collect the plates (with plenty of leftover pastry on them) and asked if everything was OK with the food, when we said we weren’t impressed she didn’t ask why / what was wrong, she just picked the plates up and walked away. Why bother asking the question if you’re not interested in the answer?!It wasn’t until later we realised that the bill had included a £4.17 service charge, even though I’d gone to the bar to place the order and collect the drinks. The only ‘service’ they provided was to take my money and bring the food out.We expect to pay higher prices in central London because that’s they way it is there but this place was a rip off.

Visited this pub last night 03/02/2022 and whilst it was busy Goran the barman immediately made us feel very welcome . He was interested in us and liked to converse which in turn made us feel at home, remembered our drinks as well . . All the staff are a credit to this pub and I would definitely recommend it to anyone .

Cooked food became available at 5pm. I had the ‘Toad in the Hole’. Meal was rather dry and the sausages were just one degree off from being burnt, the gravy sauce was was very lacking and the vegetables must have been based on a war-time ration. I assume the food was cooked at too high a temperature and had dried out but that does not explain the tiny portion of vegetable accompaniment. The veg was very enjoyable but oh so lacking as anything like a reasonably sized portion. Atmosphere in the pub was very pleasant until the music was turned on, which was far too loud to even have a conversation across a table, which rather ruined what was until then a rather comfortable ambiance.

This is a great little pub with a good range of drinks, although there was only the one ale available at the time I visited. The staff were friendly and helpful but the food was disappointing. I ordered a few of the bar snacks to go with my drinks, the macaroni bites were ok though over cooked, the bbq chicken wings appeared deep fried and really dry and the loaded chips were a very small portion of fries with just some fairly dry pulled pork sitting on top. From reading the comments about the food I was expecting much better than this.

Absolutely amazing food.The pie the steak and ale I believe it was, was a mouthwateringly good, cooked to perfection, the mash potato was creamy snd very tasty with the veg to go with it. I couldn't fault it et al.The sticky toffee pudding melted in my mouth the taste exquisite. Attending Van Gogh Alive nearby & needed food & drink before heading to one of the museums (15 to 20 minutes walk?). remembered this pub from a few years ago. Good location, nicely tucked away but just round the corner from the High St. Good food, lovely staff & a nice pint or two. Food reasonably priced. Beer London prices as you'd expect. Will return next time in the area.

This place the perfect spot for a cosy catch-up with friends. Great selection of drinks, especially gins and whiskys. Food menu is great too, caters to everyone. I’m personally a fan of the bar snacks. Love coming here and will return soon!

We arrived at the pub with our two children at 3:30. Right after the table next to us ordered a woman came up to us and said sorry the kitchen is closed. We were pretty surprised, as it turns out the kitchen closes at 4. Finally an embarrassed manager came out and said they would prepare the meal. Even the bar waitress was shocked that they tried to turn us away. We are an Asian American family in London as fears are on the rise around Covid-19. Concerned that the issue was race, I spoke to the manager on the way out to let him know we were aware that they had lied to us about the kitchen closing. He said the real issue was that his chef had a fever of 39C. I don't which is worse exposing your customers to illness or trying to turn away Asian customers. Which ever account is true, our fears of racism or their willingly allowing an ill cook to prepare food, I would stay away!

A true old fashioned English pub in heart of Kensington - always good atmosphere and drinks are generously served, friendly staff - and ample outside space

We happened across here after having a wonder around, we wished we found this sooner! Lovely old pub, clean and didn't get to try the menu! But we will be back, especially as they serve Oyster Bay!! Lovely little seating area out of the front of the pub too, with heaters.

We found this pub by accident as a lot of our finds are done. A friendly welcome by the staff and a good choice of craft beers. The food is what I expect from a Nicholson's pub, tasty delicious burger and great service too.This is how a pub should be. It's cosy too and a vibrant but quiet atmosphere. We went to the design museum and looked up a place to eat and we saw this one. A really lovely cosy pub and staff were so friendly. Had food which was delicious the macaroni cheese was delicious and hubby loved his Nicholson burger. Will pop in again when next in the area

We had two dinners in this pub: nice atmosphere, only locals no tourists, very good pies and fish and chips, good selection of local beers, polite.

We called in for a meal before going to see the classical spectacular and a few drinks. The choice of real ale was excellent and the food was outstanding. I would highly recommend a visit if you are passing by this pub. The salted caramel profiteroles are to die for

This pub was easy to find and convenient for parking in Elephant and Castle shopping centre car park. The pub has wonderful, friendly staff who were very attentive. The menu was suitable for vegetarians as it had a nice range of options. The food was hot and tasty and decent value for London. A very enjoyable time was had.

We stopped here for lunch while visiting local attractions. It’s a good place to sit in the window and people watch. There was a good selection of food on the menu. We ordered the 2 specials of the day, a haloumi & aubergine burger and chicken curry burger with chips. Both were really tasty.

Located on the New Kent road opposite a shopping centre. Staff seemed ok apart from the 1 serving , just our luck.

Visiting a large city is overwhelming and not wanting to be a total tourist, but knowing that no matter what you are, is difficult. Especially, when you are wanting to visit London's iconic pubs. We didn't want to encrouch on the locals spot, but we were close to this pub and were very hungry.

It was a lovely Saturday evening so we decided to walk from our hotel through Holland Park to the Royal Albert Hall and fine somewhere to eat on the way, We came across the Elephant & Castle pub which looked to be a great little local pub. We managed to find a small table and ordered food and drinks from the very friendly and efficient staff. They could not do enough for us and we enjoyed a very enjoyable meal. My wife had the scampi and I had the steak. I can also say the beer was very good, I didn't realise it was a Nicholson pub at first but it lived up to the other ones we had been to. A very enjoyable experience.

The service was excellent. The night we visited was busy but the young manager went out of her way to find a table for us. I had the bangers (pork and haggis) and mash, which was delicious. Good selection of beers and helpful bar staff. Great little London pub.

I went with two friends on the last day of our trip in London. We found this pub while looking for another restaurant - but this one caught our eyes.

It’s great traditional English pub from the outside but once you get inside that’s when it becomes a Gem the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful it has a good menu of good quality food and drinks which are presented well and are reasonably priced ate there three times and my wife loved it

My girlfriend and I went here for drinks on a Friday night before a DJ set at ministry of sound. Seemed a bit of a dive, but we were having a good time signing to 80s and 90s throwback songs until a random man offered to buy us drinks and then told us how it was not safe to stay there because of drug trade in the area. Needless to say we were very uncomfortable and decided to leave. We didn’t have food so I can’t rate that would not recommend.

We just had a drink and really liked the pub. They have outdoor seats but we got one inside and it was very cosy. One thing though, the ladies toilet is absolutely tiny and if you are claustrophobic you would hate it.

We were in the area and had read good reviews, so decided to stop in for dinner. The service was quick, prices were good and staff were very friendly. Though for a sit-down dinner, it was a tight squeeze to fit in. I would recommend it more for drinks and socializing VS a proper meal.

Plenty of drinks to choose from and a quality menu to top it off. My mrs and I ordered the steak pie and battered fish. Meal was fresh and really enjoyable. Turned out to be a warm-ish night, and was a little too hot inside (no fans or aircon)

Okay beer. Went for dinner, was told would be 45 minutes before taking dinner orders. We waited, drank our beer & looked over the menu. Then at ordering time...we were told they had NO sandwiches, fish or sausages! We left and ate at Maggie Jone's...which was awesome! I do NOT recommend this place if you plan to eat. It's basically a small dingy-ish bar...same selection of beers as every other pub.

Ended up eating here after arriving in London from France. Our apartment was moved to this area from the one we originally rented. The area is in the process of gentrifying and is still a bit grimey. This place though is a hidden gem. We were waited on by the bartender and he chatted with us a bit and gave us a lot of information on the area and recommended sights to see. We did the typical American tourist thing and ordered burgers. I asked for a beer and told him I trusted his judgement - he still brought me a sample because "we want our customers to like their beer." The burgers were perfectly cooked and delicious. When we left, he gave us a written list of the places we had talked about earlier. While we did not make it to all of them, I have kept the list for when we return. A+ place to go!

I went in this bar for my nieces graduation with family, I have visited before because a friend is a local. What I didn’t realise how really great the food would be. I have already recommended it to other friends and will be making a return visit for the fish platter.

Sorry, in London it's sausages and mash. I strongly recommend the spicy lamb and apricot sausages with a nice ale.

The bar has lots of seating. They open up the basement for certain events. We were there during the World Cup Games so the outdoor seating was packed. There is a lot of beer to select from and a few ciders. We had finger foods but the meals we saw coming out looked just as good. They also have a few low cost items listed at the bar if your penny pinching. Highly recommend the buffalo wings they are spicy. This Pub is a nice local gem so if you fancy a drink give them a try.

After a 20km walk a good beer, a burger and a shot it's all you need into a chill and relaxing atmosphere. Here you can have all of them and the stuff is very kind.

Came here twice for the drink and atmosphere. Cute corner neighborhood spot, part of the Nicholson’s chain. Off the main road, in Kensington near St Mary’s Abbot.

Initially had a few problems booking a table on-line but on arrival in London we called the Pub and the reservation was made. On arrival at the pub the outside sitting was extremely popular with customers enjoying the glorious Sunday late afternoon sunshine; inside was also busy and a table was clearly marked for our use. A good selection of real ales and a surprisingly good choice on the food menu. We enjoyed the Sunday lunch apart from the Yorkshire pudding which was on the hard side but the meat and veg were tasty and well presented.

I organised a big birthday party here with 50 people and all was perfect. They did everything possible to make us feel welcome and the food (big buffet) was AMAZING. All the guests got their drinks quick and everyone was so super friendly. Enjoying it so much we stayed till the pub closed and some guys we never met who just visited London rocked up before the last round of the evening. Everyone was still smiling and served us till the end. I have eaten here many times and the fish & chips are unbeatable:) Elephant and Castle in Kensington is a great hidden gem and filled with lovely kind locals and tourists. Excellent service. I made an advance reservation, and arrived at a crowded pub to find an empty table with a sign "Reserved for Martha". Really traditional pub atmosphere. Decent food that benefited from additional seasoning.
