Just superb! have been in the evening but never in the daytime - would hightly recommend this to anyone in the area! I had a buddha bowl style salad and we shared a sticky chicken/satay as a starter, my colleague had the fish gujons - all freshly made and really really tasty. A lovely young lady called Hayley looked after us. Staff were all working hard but didnt appear stressed and they atmosphere was lovely. Cant wait to try one of the 'jazz sundays' many thanks.

Lovely venue. Atmosphere and decor really relaxing and beautiful. Food great.Today though the coffee was disappointing normally the coffee is really good. Have you changed your brand of coffee? If so please revert to the normal brand.

We queued for 10 minutes to order. 2 coffees and one toasted sandwich came to almost £17. The sandwich consisted of 2 very small pieces of bread, one of which was burnt, with a small portion of lukewarm chips and some tired rocket. Really very disappointing.

Have been before to this unusual collection of "buying opportunities" but not to the cafe. It's quite a good layout with a reasonable menu at moderate'ish prices. Some errors in service and mix ups but quickly sorted out. Food was decent and we had a pleasent time. This is also a small music venue with interesting performers, advance booking needed apparently. You have to see what else is on site as this place doesn't stand alone. Various shops fully of pretty (some awful) objects and clothes at significant prices, lots of wealthy and trendy (and famous) people live in this area. Most interesting was the Roger Dean shop upstairs with many prints and some originals. Price not for the faint hearted but some lovely work. The young sales assisstant very well informed on the music of the late 60s on, 40+ yrs before he was born! Mr Dean had been sitting at the table next to us during our meal so an added little bonus! All worth a visit for the curious. Record shop a must for enthusiasts but again know your budget.

We had made a visit to the National Trust, Sheffield Park Gardens near Uckfield in East Sussex. Whilst the gardens are great (see separate review),the Tea Room design and layout leave a lot to be desired. The long queues also put us off. We looked for somewhere close by where we could get a brunch and found the Elephant Cafe in Sheffield Green just up the road from the National Trust property. Just what we wanted. Lovely people and a good menu. The Elephant Cafe is part of a complex of businesses under the umbrella of Trading Boundaries an eclectic mix of furniture, beauty and fashion outlets. All worth a visit. The cafe itself is a mixture of old, country, Englishness and like the Trading Boundaries is itself an eclectic mix of styles and decoration. The table served food was excellent and not over pricey. We will visit again when in the area.

The restaurant is lovely, especially the way it is laid out. The tables on the whole are far enough away from each other so that conversations are kept private. I can recommend the space beside the Buddha on a higher level, that was a very comfortable table to be sitting at. The service was good. I chose the jackfruit burger vegan dish. There was nothing wrong with it, but it wasn’t my favourite. The jackfruit was a bit vinegary. But I was wondering where the protein in the meal was. My friend had a sourdough bruschetta and enjoyed it very much. I would definitely eat here again. It was quite busy too.

We took my mother here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the lunches. There was plenty of smoked salmon on my mum's lunch and the £10 meal and dessert option was good value too. Coffee was excellent. Staff were friendly too. It was quite busy especially with families with young children.

We went along today for a 40th birthday celebration and discovered, on arrival, that the menu had been cut back considerably due to a power cut yesterday. It was suggested that a message had been left on a mobile number but no such message was received. The problem was unfortunate and unavoidable but it would have been nice for the staff to have offered an apology and at least made us feel welcome. We felt that we couldn’t stay and took ourselves off for a delicious meal elsewhere. The prices here are high and although the environment is pleasant our experience left us wanting and we would be therefore be reluctant to return.

We visited here for the first time in July 2019 and enjoyed the salmon & prawn dish with salad as well as the jackfruit dish they offer. Very happy with the food as they cater for vegetarians too. Friendly service and will be back. The live jazz music was a bit "hidden away" for people in the garden, but all told a very nice experience. The shops on the premises are interesting but a bit on the pricey side.

Having enjoyed lunches here in the past that were better and a little more sophisticated than the norm, we were disappointed to be presented with a much more limited choice than we remembered. Sandwiches were very plain with little attempt at presentation, and expensive too.

Friends living nearby suggested that the Elephant was better than the National Trust tearoom in Sheffield Park.I disagree. Our food was run of the mill, I disliked the meat in the burger but ate irt as I was hungry. Service OK. The place a bit of a muddle.

Visited Sheffield park gardens and their cafe packed looked on google for somewhere else found the Elephant cafe and so glad we did it’s a lovely place with live music. Ordered a chicken tikka burger whilst they were very busy we were in no rush and waited around 25 mins no more and enjoyed a drink and music. Food was fresh and beautifully hot we both really enjoyed our meal. staff were really good even though on a bank holiday they were under pressure but certainly worth a visit the price for the quality was what you would pay anywhere will bring the family next time.

Not great - waited nearly an hour for two salads. Very busy and didn’t seem to cope with the amount of people there - should have warned us how long it would take. Had to ask twice to get the food. Outside space quite good and dog & children friendly. Expensive for what it was.

Situated at the back of Trading Boundaries outlet, this is an unusually placed cafe with music gigs some lunchtimes and evenings. Food is not expansive but offers a pretty decent choice - kids wanting small plates, coffee & cakes, main burger-type meals. Prices are about average for the pub/cafes in the area and portions are usually decent.

I like Trading Boundaries, but the Elephant Cafe which I visited recently with my wife failed to impress. Unfortunately, the staff did not live up to the name in that they forgot to place our food order. If you read the website, it states that food is cooked to order, so allow 20-30 minutes. After 30+ minutes we asked what had happened, only to find that the order 'had not gone through'. Translating, that means the kitchen staff didn't get theorder. So, another 20 minutes elapsed before the food arrived. Wife's burger was fine, my pancakes were the wrong order. OK, the drinks (about £4:50) were free, and apologies were profuse but, with a boss who was more intent in being seen rather than seeing what was going on, the service was severely lacking.

The eye-watering prices elsewhere in Trading Boundaries are very much from the 'I saw you coming' school: think of a number for a piece of oldish, distressed-looking furniture, double it and see if any of the well-to-do visitors from the Weald will bite. Clearly enough do or the place wouldn't be able to keep going. So by comparison, the Elephant Cafe is pretty reasonable. I had three smoked haddock fishcakes in a delicious sauce for £12.50 and my companions' soup and salad also got a thumbs-up. Folkington's pear juice no more pricey than anywhere else.

How many under 5s can you get in a cafe to listen to jazz with their brunch? 17. I counted 17 little jazz lovers! This place is definitely popular with middle class families, and that's not always a bad thing?! The food? Looked ok, tasted better. The service? Young 6th formers, polite, well trained and friendly. Couldn't fault them. Price? On a par with a cheaper pub. The setting? Nice. The jazz? Groovy.....

This cafe is situated inside Trading Boundaries - a fantastic Indian-themed furniture and home shop. Before arriving, I looked at their menu online and saw just one item that I actually wanted for lunch - a tasty-sounding falafel, hummus and red pepper wrap. So I ignored the many other pubs etc nearby and decided to stop for lunch and a nice browse of the shop.

We visited with friends for breakfast to eat outside as it was a sunny day. The queue to get served was far too long, it needs to install a new system or different staff, it just cant cope. Prices very high, which is somewhat surprising due to the huge competition around the area. Best of luck to it, if that is sustainable.

Was on a Saturday afternoon bike ride with some friends, and we stopped here to get a coffee and some cake. We sat outside and I went to buy, and was told I couldn't order without first getting my table number and rejoining the (lengthy) queue. A bit irritating, but ok - I got the table number and rejoined the back of the queue. When I finally got to the front of the queue, the person taking orders turned around and left. I waited a few minutes before realising I wasn't going to be served. I would say it was the worst service I've experienced, but I didn't even get served.

We visited at lunchtime, whilst the cafe was quite busy. They still managed to ensure that we had a baby friendly space. Food was tasty and plentiful! Nothing was left on our plates by the end! Stumbled upon the cafe at the back of this retail business and, following the adage that a busy restaurant is a good restaurant, we took one of the last few tables. The service was reasonable despite the volumn of customers and the food arrived in good time. We had the falafels and a satay hot chicken salad. Both were excellent as were the look of the goat cheese salads delivered to the adjoining table. The only slight down side was that two main courses and coffee came to £30 which seemed just the wrong side of value for money. Having said that, if we were in the area again, we'd give it a second go.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. We both ordered the same dish, however were served one of the ordered dishes and another entirely. We were then told the order had been mixed up so there would be another of our dishes on the way. I had finished the one left for us, and we were still left waiting for the other. You cannot serve one dish and expect the other party to wait, food should be served simultaneously, that's an obvious service requirement at a food establishment. So we cancelled the other dish and ordered the bill at which I was told it was now ready, unfortunately too late! Staff not courteous to error either which had they been maybe we wouldn't have been so disappointed.

Stopped by for lunch before heading towards Sheffield Park. Very Indian interiors and the service was top notch. Great selection of main meals and sandwiches plus cakes, cream teas etc. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were great. Reasonable priced, friendly and attentive service. Conveniently situated close to NT Sheffield Park garden and the Bluebell Railway Sheffield Park station. The restaurant is at the rear of Trading Boundaries, a small shopping complex based in a large house and a courtyard of converted farm buildings. There are tables on the terrace at the rear of the restaurant which overlook a large grassed area with a children's play area. The menu offers a good selection of light dishes with a separate kids menu. The food was above average and good value. Service was friendly but not very professional and seemed a little disorganised. Overall an ideal stop for families with children.

We visit here occasionally. It is a great location and serves good food. However, the experience is very dependant on who is serving. There appear to be knowledgeable long term staff and casuals. Some casual staff appear to lack training and you may be left feeling you are something of an irritation - perhaps we have interrupted something, but not intentionally! Other times nothing is a problem and we leave feeling keen to return. Could be so much better if some staff were up to the same standard of their colleagues.
