Fantastic dining experience at the Elder. It was a 50th birthday treat, so we were very much looking forward to the taster menu. The food was amazing, well presented and full of flavour. We wish we'd booked the wine pairing, but will definitely do so next time! We didn't get our waiter's name but he was so lovely, and gave a description of each course as he served. He was attentive but not over the top and was smiling and chatting with us, which was charming. The Jib bar downstairs for pre dinner drinks was also lovely, overall a perfect evening. Thank you, the couple from Wales 😊

The service was extremely slow. It took 38 mins between sitting down and being asked what bottle of wine we’d like to order. The wine list and food portions were very small. One dish was labelled “risotto” but it was actually a soft boiled egg in sauce. The waiter didn’t know what he was doing and seemed to pay more attention to an iPad than guests, he kept walking around looking at finished plates and empty glasses and not doing anything about them. It felt a little like the “Fawlty Towers” of dining. No idea how this place got a mention in the Condé Nast best of Bath dining. Avoid at all costs, which on the topic of cost was £300 for one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Save your money and have pizza express instead.

Ahorra dinero y pide pizza express.

Weird place. Service was terrible and extremely slow. Food was good but not worth the price - very tiny portions. The risotto was a boiled egg in cream sauce? Love disco music but odd choice for this restaurant. Tacky decor. Wouldn’t recommend.

¡Wow wow wow!

Si no encuentras el restaurante, ve a The Hotel Indigo y te guiarán.

Came here with friends for the evening, expectations were high based on the reviews however we found the food a bit underwhelming. Appreciate it was a 7 course menu but the portions were small, no vegetables served with the fish just a sauce with muscles. One of our friends had the vegetarian menu and the beetroot dish was poor, just 2 small sticks of beetroot and a few other chopped vegetables with a sauce poured over. None of us enjoyed the broth particularly, the desserts were very good though. Our entire meal with 1 drink each came to just over £400. Staff were friendly but not particularly attentive as we had to ask for more water, sadly all in all not the experience we expected.

We were really looking forward to coming to the Elder based on the excellent reviews. The restaurant is in a great building, and the staff were great, the service was excellent. However for the cost, the food was slightly underwhelming. Often served tepid on plates that weren’t warm/hot meant that maybe in the distance from the kitchen downstairs to the table may have meant the food temperature dropped. Portion sizes were good (not too large as sometimes is the case with tasting menus) and ingredients and flavours were good but unsure if we’d visit again at the current price point and issues with food. Bill with drinks was £245

Easily the best dining experiences I’ve had in the entirety of the United Kingdom. Please eat here if you’d like to change your mind about “British Food” (sorry, not sorry). This tasting menu trumped our 2 Michelin star dinner in London (Heston who?…). Loved the start in the bar area with welcome cocktails - excellent bar tender and service from everyone. The intimate dining room was a pleasant surprise. Beautiful curated menu with options for meat and fish. Conscious, thoughtful and sustainable - don’t get to say that often about restaurants. Venison was the highlight for me. Last but not least, the dessert chef nailed it as well.

Very tasty and generous portions for a taster menu. Our friends from the USA reserved a table in Jan/feb for March 13th, plenty of TIME, our friends are Midwest people he shoots game for eating not for sport, I however am not a game eating person something about eating an earth taste does not appeal fish or game, so to the meal, checked website Hare Ragu starter, nope not available, we use local sourced product? Came the reply, I held back my comment, as Rabbits abound in local walks, nothing else appealed, so next was crunchy brown roll with butter and what tasted like a brown beef hot drink to dip the crunchy brown roll, I was informed it's deer? To main meal hoping to fill the empty gap which was in my stomach, fish mash n White beans, not bad, the hunter had deer loved it, to desert lemon tart for me NO, not available, it's on the MENU, 3 people wanted LEMON TART, nothing else appealed to me, Fortunately the friends enjoyed the meal although they commented on organisation of the kitchen staff/manager as for this money in the USA would not be tolerated, I myself expected 5× and got 3 which I think any High quality Bar could serve up in Bath Centeral. Service is essential But also is the FOOD, to make it even more annoying on that evening it was practically empty. I would suggest they send the kitchen manager on a course of stock management and spreadsheet update.after all Master chef seem to manage, maybe they should take a look.

This depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a safe dependable restaurant that has something for everyone: This is NOT your place. Vegan, vegetarian and traditional are Not words I would use to describe this restaurant. I would use words like non traditional, out of the box and different to describe it. Let’s start at the beginning. There are a lot of restaurants in Bath. To stand out and offer you something different is definitely the theme they are going for here. Let’s start with the theme. It is a high end outdoors game vibe. Where the aristocrats would have fresh game from the stately homes and estates. The walls are painted green with hand painted accents making the wall look old like the paint was worn with time. The wall art is of game and has mounts of various animals . The atmosphere was as great as well. The was musty odour in the bar area which wasn’t great. But the main dining area was very pleasant. The tables had lien napkins tied with a string and a sprig of rosemary. Very nice to usual plain folded napkin. The staff you can’t fault. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. They deserved a 10 out of 10. The food is the main point of every restaurant. This where the rating comes into play. The menu is small and has only a few items on it. Which is fine because some restaurants, like this one, don’t have massive kitchens to cater to everyone. They focus on wild game. Like boar, deer, and pigeon. Instead of your normal pork, Beef, Chicken. Venison is their signature. For the bread they serve you a bread in like a muffin shaper. It served on a wooden board with piped butter on a slate plate. Then they give you was is basically venison bone broth to dip the bread in. This was delicious. Strange but very satisfying. For starters we had a pigeon breast tart and cheese tart. The pigeon tart had a lot of flavours, and textures which I found overwhelming. The cheese tart was basically a very fancy quiche, which we highly recommend. For the main we both had the venison; because it was their signature and also the only thing on the menu that caught our fancy. It came with a side of what they call dirty potatoes. Simply put it was mashed potatoes with venison gravy. It was delicious but the only thing I would change is for some reason they put potato skins in that were supposed to be crispy. They were bland chewy pieces of cardboard that should have never been added. The venison came on something that we are not sure what it was. On top was a steamed cabbage filled various items. Not sure what exactly. The venison was cooked a little too rare but was very tasty, however my partner didn’t like it. Then the last side was the most interesting and shocking thing. It was a cooked bone that had something on top of it resembled bread crumbs but was probably salt. You were supposed to remove the marrow and eat it. You hat was a big nope. We tired it but it was too out there for our tastes. My partner sent hers away because she couldn’t look at it while she ate. Finally we get to the desert. Again only a few selection. We both choose the he cream brûlée. It was pistachio flavoured with chocolate chip cookies on the side. This was a complete disaster. First they was a napkin on the plate and the three tiny cookies and pot of cream brûlée were placed on it. Have no idea why they was napkin seems like a waste of time and effort. The cream brûlée was warm and it had not set properly. It was like custard and way to liquidate. The flavour was nice though. The 3 cookies were bone dry and awful. We ended up not finishing the dessert and asked for to be removed. It one thing if you didn’t like something but another thing for it to be cooked wrong. To summarise if you want to try something new that out there then this the place for you. If you want simple traditional food look elsewhere. Would I recommend depends. If you are vegetarian or vegan NO. As nothing is vegetarian let alone vegan. If you like game then yes. For me it would be a let’s not go back.

Firstly I want to say the staff were fantastic, particularly our waitress who couldn't do enough for us. However, the food was disappointing. I had really high expectations based on some of the photos I've seen, but there were some elements that weren't up to par. One of the starters was not cooked well- the pasta was hard when it should have been soft. The potatoes for the roast were chewy (some even rock hard) and tasted like they were not cooked fresh. Even my homemade roast potatoes taste better. We were comped on the starter and given free cocktails as an apology for the potatoes which was appreciated. But considering we were visiting all the way from California and this was a special trip for us, we left feeling a bit disheartened for what we had hoped would be a fabulous meal.

tl;dr - if you're organizing a special occasion I can't recommend The Elder enough. Background - I live in Germany, but come from Bath and in November of this year had a milestone birthday. I wanted to celebrate with family and friends from around the UK and Ireland, and decided that a Sunday Lunch would be a nice touch. I love a good roast and really miss that living in Germany. I wrote to 11 Bath restaurants in May and only got answers from a few. After speaking with each of them, and talking about budgets, the space, etc. I decided on The Elder. I worked with 2 people from the restaurant during the run up to the event. Fiona (who unfortunately left during summer but who was wonderful) and Bianca who took over from her and was equally delightful to work with. Based on my budget and what the restaurant would charge I invited 53 friends and family which enabled us to have the whole dining space from 12 noon until 4pm on the Sunday after my birthday. We'd agreed in the early phases that I would ensure people ordered up front and that I'd share any allergies or intolerances with the restaurant ahead of time. I visited the restaurant in September to get an idea of the seating plan and as we approached the date I was able to give the restaurant a "who sits where, what have they ordered, and what allergies do they have" list. Bianca got all of this on to name plates at each seat which enabled folks to check on arrival that they were getting what they'd ordered. On the day itself the highest compliment I can give Bianca and team is that I was thoroughly relaxed and had a great time. I didn't have to worry about whether people were getting the right food, or whether there was enough wine, or whatever - it was just a really nice opportunity to share amazing food and wine with very special people and for that I can't praise The Elder enough. The feedback I had from my guests was that the food and drink was wonderful, but that what really made the day stand out were the service team. Thank you Bianca (and Fiona) and the rest of The Elder team for a memorable day!

We regularly dine at The Elder and it’s our favourite restaurant in Bath. We prefer coming for dinner but have enjoyed their lunch options as well. We’ve tired the tasting menu and also ordered from à la carte. Can confidently say that the food has never missed the mark, excellent quality local ingredients, great flavour combinations, good variety. Their selection of wines (especially the wine pairings) are great, we also enjoy their cocktails - they were great at preparing the occasional drink which were not on the menu. The interior is something else - we adore the countryside-style atmosphere. Servers are always polite and friendly, they let you enjoy your time and are not over the top. We would highly recommend The Elder, whether it’s for a date or a casual lunch.

We mentioned we were sat in a draft, we remained in the draft. We had the tasting menu. A few of the plates were amazing. The rest were okay. Service was acceptable. If I had another £250 to spend on dinner (I don’t) I wouldn’t spend it at The Elder.

We were very excited to try the menu here. The service was very great and the young waiter who served us was very knowledgeable and attentive. Unfortunately the food was disappointing for the price point, it was almost trying to be of 1 Michelin star quality and the starters were very nice, but both of our mains arrived cold and my potato was so salty I could barely eat it - and I love salt! As the mains had taken so long to arrive we didn’t want to complain and wait even longer so we just finished it. Overall we were let down especially for the price and there is definitely room for improvement.

We were incredibly excited to try Bath’s The Elder Restaurant during our holiday in the UK. Their story is inspiring, the ethos is exactly where we hope all restaurants go, and the reviews are consistently positive. While the service was good and the ambiance was interesting to us, the food missed the mark. We love to eat great food, especially when traveling—this meal was good, not great. Our favorite components of the tasting menu included the artichoke velouté, salted butter, and venison broth… not the deer or bass, which could have been the showstoppers. When we go back, we’ll try ordering items a la cart. Outside of the food, dimmer lighting and a less scripted staff would have elevated the experience. TL;DR - The overall experience and cost of the tasting menu did not add up to the total on our bill.

If a food and resteraunt review deserved a six star rating you don’t have to look search or find an alternative venue as The Elder ticks all the boxes and does not disappoint… we were highly recommended this venue by friends and travelling from london we were fortunate to find a table for two… what more can I say … service, atmosphere, first impression from the welcome to the farewell… a Sunday lunch with style and probably one of the very best - highly recommend and you’ll know and understand once you’ve had this experience… amazing kitchen, service and we will be back… for the tasting menu for sure… tyvm, jh

Had the tasting menu and the quality was outstanding. I think some of the dishes were pushing it a bit, like sharing a bread roll between 2 people, particularly when dining with new people. However, this doesn’t take away from the perfection of each dish.

It was my first trip to Bath during the Easter Weekend. I was treated to a fabulous lunch at the Elder. The prefix menu I chose was a pigeon tart and a Sunday roast. I was not able to stay to try the sticky toffee pudding since I was running to a tour of Bath. But the two courses I had were very elevated and tasted great. The Yorkshire pudding alone was scrumptious, light and aiery. The service was very attentive and the décor has an old hunting lodge feel.

While staying at the Hotel Indigo your breakfast is served at The Elder - wonderful food and service to start your day. We also had dinner one night during our stay. We had the tasting menu with paired wine flights - which was a true gastronomic experience. The staff (Joe!) was wonderful giving us insights into the foods, the preparation, and the wine pairings. Don’t miss The Elder if you travel to Bath.

Food was excellent, but was even more impressed by the level of service. Friendly and affable staff combined with both vegetarian and vegan menus make this restaurant accessible to all. I’d recommend the deer for non-veg and masala cauliflower for veg folks. Extensive dessert and drink options round things off nicely!

Showed up bedraggled, tired and a bit cranky from delayed trains and pouring rain. From the moment we checked in our mood improved. Service from both our server and maitre’d was excellent, fun, top notch. The food was excellent, I had perfectly cooked lamb and my son had the sea bass. The portions were quite generous (my server was surprised to hear an American say that!). Can’t find one thing to complain about, an excellent experience!

Had an excellent evening here while on a weekend trip to Bath. As someone who typically dines solo, I’m used to getting a bit less attention than larger tables, but that was absolutely not the case here. Everyone was very attentive and made excellent recommendations on food and drink. The wild garlic veloute was particularly noteworthy.

We had an absolutely sensational dining experience at The Elder from start to finish. Nothing to fault in any way. The staff were superb and very knowledgeable about the food and wine list. The service impeccable. It's quite a gamey menu so if that doesn't bother you dive in an experience beautifully cooked fallow deer. Loved it loved it loved it. Will definitely come again but this time treat ourselves by staying at the Indigo Hotel where the restaurant is located.

The Elder in Bath is a true culinary delight, A place where the ambiance is just right, The food is exquisite, a real work of art, And the service is impeccable, from the start. My recommendation is to get the tasting menu in full, Each dish is a masterpiece, an edible jewel, Explore the wine list, you need some good fuel, And by the time you read the menu, you'll start to drool. The location is prime, with a vibe that's sublime, And as you look at the walls, you might spot a serious bull sign, It's a place to indulge, to savor every bite, And you might even think, this is worth a Parliament invite. So don't hesitate, just make a reservation, The Elder is a true destination, Where food, service, and location blend in harmony, A culinary experience, worth every penny.

1 star or less in every category. After being seated and ordering, I waited for an unusually long time before the waiter informed me that he had failed to enter my order. I waited longer and eventually received my meal. The piece of steak was almost impossible to eat, as it was not cooked properly. In quiet frustration, I asked for my bill so that I could end this experience. I was brought a small dessert with my bill, but without any utensils. I asked for utensils so that I might at least enjoy the dessert, but never received any. I quietly left the restaurant hoping this was not the best representation of dining in Bath (as this was my first meal after arriving). And thankfully, it was not. I subsequently went to The Circus, which is a short distance from The Elder and very close to the Royal Crescent. I ordered a similar meal and it was absolutely superb! The meat was tender and cooked properly, and the service was first class. Do not waste your time at The Elder. Take a walk to The Circus restaurant for higher quality food and a much better experience.

Had a lovely meal at Elder this evening. Enjoyed the six course tasting menu which gives you an opportunity to try more of the menu than the a la carte (although smaller portions of each dish). Service was really friendly throughout and provided good explanations of all the dishes. The restaurant is pretty interesting as it has lots of smaller rooms (due to the historic building). We found it a nice atmosphere all round.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Elder Restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with the beautiful English food and amazing interiors. The roast beef was particularly noteworthy - it was cooked to perfection and had a rich, savory flavor. In addition to the great food, the staff at The Elder were entertaining and very knowledgeable, which added to the overall dining experience. The atmosphere at the restaurant was cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely meal. Overall, I had a fantastic time at The Elder and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious English food in a beautiful setting with excellent service

Poor food and the rudest service We went for lunch at the Elder. We had a couple of small plates ( which we assumed were starters ) plus a burger and a cheese and ham toastie. The manager spent some time telling us how the burgers had to be cooked well done even though we would have preferred it a little pink. But we agreed to well done. It took 40 minutes for anything to arrive and when it did everything came together. The starters were actually pretty good. But the toastie was cold, damp and congealed - i think it was cooked before the small plates. We sent that back immediately and said don’t bother replacing it given it had taken 40 minutes. The burger was bloody ( odd given we were told Bath hygiene inspectors demanded they were well done ). At the end I asked the manager why it had been like this - and he told me that it was well done but I had smeared tomato sauce on it to make it look pink. I must admit I wasn’t expecting that response. Anyway it’s not often you get poor food and are told you have adulterated it yourself. Here’s the photo. We have a video too if the Council want to take a look - it’s pretty obvious what this is. The manager also told me the kitchen was closed on Tuesday lunchtimes. That might explain why no-one else was there but it didn’t explain why they took our booking. I wanted to speak to the owner but the manager wouldn’t give me his contact details. Another sign of an excellent and well-run establishment. Summary - poor food. But good place to go if you like to be called a liar. image0.jpeg

Really disappointing! After seing all the nice posts and pics on instagram, we arrived here with very high hopes! First, a member of p the staff was really over the top friendly and too familiar and told my husband in front of me that i was « a bit of alright » which was really Inappropriate, then our food arrived dry and they told us that « i don’t know how its meant to come…and the waiter took away my unfinished 22£ cocktail and I had to ask for it back how embarrassing!!! Even though cocktails were incredible and so were the starters, the whole experience made me want to leave before the dessert! Shame…

We’ve eaten at The Moorfields many time when visiting our daughter and family who live locally. We’d hoped that the transition to a St Austell Brewery owned property (we reside in Cornwall)would have given it a boost. However, we found the menu rather lacklustre and a retrograde step from its previous incarnation. Our beer battered hake and chips was cooked well but a small portion, sufficient for lunch but over priced. My pint of Tribute was flat and poorly kept. We didn’t complain as that would have spoiled our meeting with old friends but having chosen the venue felt obliged to pay the bill. We won’t hurry back until we hear that it has improved.

A great little pub in a wonderful location next to the Pensford Viaduct. The car park only had one parking space when I arrived just after 1pm but the pub wasn’t busy so it seems some are illegitimately parking on the pub’s premises.

Ordered pre-prepared Christmas dinners for our family this year and they were amazing! The food was prepared perfectly, very tasty and filling - a real property Christmas dinner - and they even included some crackers! Everything packaged up nicely with easy to follow instructions and the portion sizes were very generous. All we had to do was reheat and dish up. Saved us so much money and time - I can't recommend it enough! Thank you!
