Our family of 4 went for a birthday meal in the week and we experienced tasty food with a variety of drinks. The landlady was attentive and friendly and accommodating to our needs and it was great value for money. Thank you, we will be returning soon.

The ambiance of The Eight Bells is charming and rustic, with a lovely outdoor seating area that’s perfect for a sunny day. The pub also has a great selection of local ales and wines, which complemented our meal beautifully. Overall, The Eight Bells is a true hidden gem in Abbotsley. Whether you’re looking for a casual meal with friends or a special night out, this place has it all. Highly recommend!

I came here off the recommendation of a work colleague when my family came to visit from London. I loved the food, the value was great, a burger with 3 sides and the ambience was fun. There’s a pool table and nice outdoor area when the weather permits. The kids loved the play area as well. Definitely recommend! Thank you to the staff! :)

Called to book and advised not needed. The lady said they are new and only doing basket meals but, we won’t be disappointed, well we were!!! We arrived at 6.35pm chef hadn’t arrived. At 7pm we asked, and he had. Hardly any choice and only 1 burger available…. Cheap frozen cod and soggy scampi, appalling food. If you are new to a pub, I would think they would go over and above to put on a menu to draw customers in, definitely wouldn’t recommend this place and, although local won’t be going there again. Avoid!

Popped in for lunch. Having mis-read the menu and wanting something that was dinner and not lunch, I was disappointed; however, the chef popped out and was happy to make it for me anyway. I had the prawn linguine and it was brilliant, perfect mix of creamy sauce to spice. My wife and I had a very tasty lunch, nice drinks and the service was spot on.

Friends came to visit and we wanted to take them to a nice country pub for Sunday lunch. We thought this was a nice little village and assumed food must be good. We were wrong! The tables were very crammed in hardly any room to squeeze in. We got seated and 30 mins went by no server took our order or gave us a menu. At 45 mins we asked a server she apologised and took our drinks order. Not surprisingly it took 15-20 mins to get our drinks. We ordered our Sunday lunch, the choices were limited, not much variety. From the time we ordered to when we got our starters, it was another 30 mins. It wasn’t appetising and I only got soup that can’t be hard to mess up. Our mains took another hour and to be honest not worth the wait. Portions were little, I had less on my plate than my friends the portions weren’t equal. Yorkshire was dried up and roast potatoes tasted old. We took our chances and ordered dessert which took a long time to get served. We asked for a flavoured tea and server said she’ll check if they have it but never came back to let us know. I was so apologetic to my friends and embarrassed the service was so terrible. We were in there almost 4 hours like it was a day out. Waste of time and money.

Mmm. Not great. We were taken out for lunch by an elderly aunt who used to live here years ago so we thought it would be nice for her to re visit as she asked us to book. When we got there, and saw the back of the pub, I have to say we did not expect much! We all had the roast. It was ok but not great. We would not have said anything but the aunt who was paying commented first. We decided to forgo the pudding and go elsewhere for cake and coffee instead. I am sure some would find this pub a handy eatery but , for us , it was a bit disappointing. I could say we should have checked Trip advisor before coming here, but , in the main, people seem to like it that have commented on here, but this is just our opinion.

We selected the pub on the basis of trip advisor reviews and photos. The pub is situated in a nice location and itself is a pleasant pub. Having enquired and booked with two vegetarians in the party we were disappointed that no Sunday lunch option was available, even simply a vegetarian gravy. There were a couple of choices so both opted for a vegetarian lasagna which was tasty. The roast beef dinner was well presented and generally tasty but quite modest in size. Having been asked if everything was ok and commenting the beef was chewy and 1/3 of it fat, I was surprised to be told ‘No one else has said anything’. We all know few Brits complain and if someone does I would expect a more proactive customer focused response. We left feeling disappointed.

In this day and age there are so many times we go out for a meal and are left feeling disappointed because the food is “plastic” or the service is mediocre but not here 😀 The menu is only small but is because it is all home-made. The 3 of us opted for the fillet steak which was tasty, perfectly seasoned and cooked to medium rare. The chips are homemade, as are the onion rings, and were not at all greasy and served with a delicious pepper sauce. All served by two young ladies who were very efficient and friendly without the "couldn't less" attitude of today you find in so many places.

We've driven past countless times and finally were both hungry and in time to stop and try out this well-placed pub. Abbotsley is a pleasant village easily reached from St Neots, and the pub has a decent sized car park and a small rear garden with a wide vista of a shallow valley to enjoy with an outdoor drink. On this day it was too cold so inside was the only option. The bar is long with two larger areas at each end; one side is a social bar (TV, dart board, games and books)while the other is a more formal dining room. We chose to sit at the front of house by the bar where the sun streamed through onto our table.

In 99 cases of 100, when i go out to eat in a cafe or restaurant, the conversation turns to food. Sometimes about the place we are eating it, but often about lots of other foodie issues. In this case, we just ate and talked about all sorts of other things. This was extremely unusual! The only food remark made was that there was too little sauce on the Christmas pud - it was so nice, more was wanted! Excellent. I have not graded 5 stars purely beacuse I have only been once, but I certainly plan to go again!

Lovely quaint little pub with roaring fires. Stopped to have lunch. I had Game Stew which was absolutely full of meat and the vegetables were very tasty too. My other half had Lincolnshire Sausages with Mash. All meat sourced locally. For desert we had Sticky Toffee Pudding and a Chocolate Brownie. All were homemade and served with custard. The lady serving eas very friendly and helpful in recommending what to have. Will definitely be going back.

I was quite surprised when I found this little village pub tucked away in Abbotsley. We were a table of 5 looking for somewhere to eat and what we found was a very warm, friendly welcome and some really good food! The ales were well kept and clear as day, with 3 on offer. I had the crab and crayfish linguine which was lovely and had a nice little chilli kick to it! My partner had the stuffed chicken breast with mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes. The kids had nuggets (obviously) but it was all fresh and homemade and no frozen products in sight. I would definitely visit again when I'm in the area and I may even make a detour for a traditional Sunday Lunch! ! Well done 8 bells,a proper village pub. Great beer, great food and a great atmosphere.

We stopped for lunch when out for a walk a few weeks ago. The staff were very friendly, there was a really good menu selection and the food tasted great. Would definitely return!

First visit here which was prompted by a recommendation. The restaurant area is small but the food was surprisingly good with excellent portions and a varied menu. It is much better than other more expensive places and deserves to be better known (correcting the location on Tripadvisor would help !). I was in a large group and everyone was impressed. I hope the business is a success because it provides a valuable amenity in a delightful village.

Great pub fare-- I had the fish and chips, and it was among the very best I've had-- super crispy, cod-tasting, clean, fish with superb crunchy chips and fantastic mushy peas. My wife was feeling veggie so she got the aubergine-goats cheese tower, and it was fantastic as well (and I'm not an aubergine fan). Great beers-- the Optimism was a great choice. Two pints and two mains cost 28 pounds, a bargain for such great food. Make this a destination. Lots of really great looking things on the menu. BTW, this is in the attractive little town of Abbotsley, near but not in St Neots.

We have just returned from a delicious lunch at the Saddle. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. We had fish and chips and steak and chips. The fish was delicious lovely crispy batter and the steak was very well cooked. The chips were also delicious. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was not busy which is a shame as the pub offered real value for money in a friendly environment. We will certainly return. Thank you .

If you’re looking for a large portion of wonderfully cooked spareribs this is the place to go. Recommend making reservations ahead of time. Great service!
