A cosy, traditional pub with friendly service. My husband and I are big fans of Thai food and we were totally blown away- this was the best we've had outside of Thailand. Outstanding! Very good value. Can't wait to return.

Really lovely hidden gem of a pub serving local beers in absolutely superb condition. Added to that is also home to a Thai restaurant which, in my opinion, serves some if the best Thai food I've had in the area. All in all hard to fault.

Visited last week with friends for an evening meal. Lovely old pub, well off the beaten track , but worth finding out that serves great Thai food. Dishes are willing adapted to be spiced to your requirements, so were able to cover the whole range of tastes without any problems.

The 8 Bells in Eaton serves the best Guinness in England! This is a bold claim but I believe I have not had Guinness like it anywhere else in the UK. Tommy the landlord is from Cork so he knows his stuff. We had finished a lovely walk in Eaton in the sunshine and we popped in for a perfect finish to the day.

We visited the Eight Bells on a Saturday lunchtime having rung to book beforehand, which is essential. The setting is idyllic especially when the weather is good. A .large grassy area outside the pub, small village of Eaton, good sized car park and a welcoming & friendly landlord. There are a variety of wooden tables and benches, some under cover, some out in the open plus two covered in pods seating ~ 5/6 people. You would have no idea you were so close to Oxford (can't hear the A420) and the no-through road which goes right past the pub leads straight down to the Thames at Bablock Hythe should you fancy a stroll afterwards. The menu is authentically Thai and we enjoyed a wonderful meal in the sunshine, served by the chef, whose father taught her how to cook. Excellent service and very good value. Highly recommended. In these days of not eating out so much and taking pleasure in the simpler things in life this was a real treat.

The Eight Bells at Eaton is a lovely old school country pub that serves a fabulous Guinness and really really good Thai food. We ordered a takeaway for the first time and it was excellent. Fresh, proper Thai flavours, very very good. Spicy, tasty soup with galangal and fresh Thai flavours. Delicious duck and jungle curry. Fantastic!

After living in the area for the best part of 30 years, my wife and I finally called into the 8 Bells around lunchtime, after a long walk. As soon as we stepped in to the bar we were included in the conversation that was going on and the barmaid was very pleasant and friendly. Because of this we returned with friend last evening and had a meal in the Thai restaurant there. We all enjoyed the food very much and, once again, were made to feel part of the place. The waitress was also very efficient, friendly and smiley which made it a very enjoyable evening

This is what a country pub should be - warm and friendly with a welcoming landlord - with the added pleasant surprise that they do the best Thai food that I've tasted in a very long time. Tommy O'Sullivan is the host and the craic is as good as the food! We were staying nearby early November, dog-sitting, and desperate for a pub as far away from fireworks as possible. The Eight Bells was perfect and having established that dogs were allowed (on a lead) we took our nervous lurcher there and she was as happy as we were. In fact we came back every night that week and Ruby (the lurcher!) was through the door before us. Just go there!!!

We ate at the Eight Bells pub, while we were camping at West farm in Eaton. We had a really delicious Thai meal, the food was really lovely. The food was hot and very well presented. They just managed to fit us in as it was a very full dining room, but we were served quickly and efficiently. The landlord was friendly as were all the staff. The pub though small had a great atmosphere.Wish we lived nearer so we could go back again.

What an excellent night again at The Eight Bells in Eaton. Even though we hadn't booked we were able to eat on a busy Saturday night in August. The food always tastes so fresh and deliciously spicy. The rice is perfect every time and the Red Thai Curry sauce is just so impeccably moreish. Great, changing lineup of traditional ales too. It is very friendly with a delightful garden at the front, in a traditional village setting. it is obvious they really care about what they're doing and what their customers think. Outstanding.

From the outside a nice looking country pub with good outdoor area.Inside was small and old world if not a bit dark in the bar .The restaurant is also small and a bit cramped and needs a bit if an update as looks a bit tired, the furniture is not the most comfortable, I found the chairs a bit too low for the tables and to upright to be comfortable and they look a bit tatty and dated. The food was Thai only which is a bit limiting, but was quite tasty although nothing different than I have had in other Thai restaurants locally that are more comfortable. The service was good and very pleasant and it was good value. With such a small pub it is limited but a coat of paint would help.

We attended as a largish group for a dinner. It was on an evening after a 6 Nations match and thus may have been busier / more lively / loud than normal. It felt very much like a local crowd in their local pub so the Thai restaurant / dining was a little incongruous. The decor of the pub is definitely local village pub and if you were not aware the Thai food would come as quite a surprise. The pub has a good selection of real ales including from some local small breweries which was nice.I don't eat a lot of Thai food so whilst it was a pleasant meal I wouldn't say I have a great deal to compare it with. My meal was nice enough and the service was good. If you eat a lot or Thai food or a fan of the cuisine then you may be in a better position to judge. The rating system does not allow a 'good' otherwise I would have chosen that. Not sure I would seek this place out but would likely go again as part of a group.

What a wonderful experience we’ve had this evening at the Eight Bells in Eaton. We didn’t know this gem existed just a couple of miles from the A420 at Cumnor. We were given a warm greeting by the landlord at 6pm and shortly after ordering our drinks at the bar, we were shown by a lovely lady to our table. A glance down the menu revealed predominantly Thai, but also a selection of English meals including steak and fish and chips. The Thai menu was just too tempting to pass over. As we enjoyed a glass of rose, a basket of prawn crackers arrived, hot and fresh and we nibbled through those as we contemplated our order. We selected one starter of chicken satay to share, which arrived with 6 skewers of chicken and satay sauce. Ample for us. We followed up with chicken Kang Kaew Wan (No 36), which is a green Thai Curry; Chu-chi goong (No 42 prawns) which is a red Thai curry served on a sizzling hot plate, and a portion of Thai steamed and egg fried rice. When the food arrived it was absolutely piping hot and delicious. The flavours transported us back to a favourite Thai Restaurant that has now closed. The portions of rice are not huge, which is by no means a criticism, but absolutely ample for one without any waste, and the very reasonable price reflects this. As we waited the short while for our meal a few more people arrived, first timers just like us. The waitress was keen to assist one of the customers with a nut allergy, and helpfully reviewed a very clear document, with the customer, explaining about the ingredients in each meal, in order to avoid anaphylaxis.

We tour the country in our VW van and in doing so often stop at pubs etc. for drink, food or both. We arrived at the Eight Bells late afternoon, a lovely, peaceful location and a warm friendly feel to the pub with a comprehensive Thai menu and the usual pub classics, I had a Thai meal and the Mrs had ham, eggs and chips, both excellent value and extremely tasty. The beer was wonderful too with a few cask ales to choose from I was happy to sit in the well kept beer garden and enjoy the last of the evening sunshine. The landlord and staff were very friendly but as the evening progressed the pub and restaurant got quite busy so I'd advise booking in advance, I'm sure it'll be worth it.

No point really to review as I agree with all the other reviewers.Nevertheless, have enjoyed excellent Thai (try the set meals for two, three or four for choice) on two occasions. English food also available. Just had their Sunday lunch. Choice of beef, pork, chicken or lamb! Our party was three lambs, one pork. All excellent in quality, quantity and service.Carved off real joints, not pre-cooked slices from a supplier. Nearly as good as home cooking (nearly, in case the wife reads this!)Locals friendly, good number of benches in quiet garden.Tommy, the convivial landlord was making sure everyone was happy, providing table serviced when he saw glasses getting empty.Eaton and surrounding district lucky to have Tommy and the Eight Bells. Takeaway visit early this morning to beat the crowds. Shelves were heaving with deliciousness so really spoilt for choice. I selected the usuals, almond croissant, pain au chocolate and a chocolate brownie but extra treat of a blackberry custard pastry (too good looking to pass up) a sausage roll, hot from the oven (steaming in the cool bake house air) and finally... A cinnamon bun from the tray expertly selected by Rory. The man has the skills of a surgeon and the eye of a hawk in choosing the stickiest, most cinnamon-y bun in the tray... All stocked up and home to the family for some silent munching over coffee and juice. When you're in say Hi to Rory and the team and let him show you his zen master cinnamon bun selection routine.

We’ve been here a few times for sandwiches, today we thought we would try the Brie, bacon and cranberry paninis. I can honestly say it’s the worst panini I’ve ever had. The bacon was really very fatty and cold. Both of us only ate one mouthful and then had to remove all the bacon. The lady behind the counter was very busy so I didn’t feel able to complain.
