Definitely different to a standard cafe or tearoom. Books and trinkets for sale. A place to go if you want to avoid the usual cafe chains. Menu not extensive but the food & coffee were good.

We stopped here on a wander round the town. As out was a warm day we sat outside. The tea came in a proper teapot and China cup and saucer. Hubby had the choco, ate and lemon cake which was delicious. Friendly staff too. The prices were very good too.

I stayed one night above the tea rooms, and the breakfast was kindly included in the very good value rate. Beautiful location foe these tearooms, please take time afterwards or before to explore the church opposite, housing viking hogbacks amongst other surprising gems. The tearoom is of another time in a good way, I came away with some great books on Arran! Breakfast was filling and set me up for the journey home, if you like escaping and quirkiness this is the place to go, unashamedly unique!

Yes, there are plenty of places to get a cup of coffee in Penrith. Some lovely ones in fact. Or if you prefer corporate, go to Costa. You will get the same service as anywhere else in this modern land and that’s fine. But if you do that then small gems like this will be lost to us forever. Instead of corporate chairs and approved wallpaper you will have rat a rat furnishings like an old grandma’s house. So what if hygiene isn’t super top notch, go to Costas? Come here if you support different, quirky and off the beaten track. There are nick-nacks everywhere, and a lovely dog called Scrumpy. She’s Old English Sheepdog and loves to be fussed but won’t bother you til you invite her. The tea cakes seem home made and are lovely also generous in size with a big wedge of soft butter. The owner dresses like Great Uncle Bulgaria from The Wombles and is all the better for that. I honestly feel like I am stepping back in time to a 1970s TV children’s classic show. And it’s great; because Penrith thrives on this diversity and the old and the new. Please keep this little cafe in business and not just because it’s food is very nice and his coffee every bit as good as Costa. You’re actually buying a real slice of nostalgia here and cheap at the price.

My wife and I visited Penrith over Christmas and were looking forward to visiting one of the local cafes for some good quality food. Unfortunately, as other cafes in the town were busy we stumbled upon the Eden Gallery Tea Room. The place is described as quirky with everything you can see available for sale from pictures to teapots. Having sat down I noticed a water jug on the table which looked like it had stagnant water in it, was dirty and covered in finger prints. This was a sign of what was to come! We asked for a pot of tea to share and received 2 dirty cups and saucers, a teapot covered in stains and a stainless steel hot water jug that was filthy. We asked for the cups to be changed and received two that were slightly less grubby. My wife was also convinced the teapot had literally been taken off the table from the previous customers without cleaning but we cant prove this. Then our food arrived. My wife had a teacake which seemed OK but was on a dirty plate. I received a cheese and onion sandwich that lacked any effort(see photo). No butter, two slices of burger cheese and a chunk of onion. All the ingredients were there but lacked any quality or presentation. Truly miserable! This was the final straw and having serious questions about the hygiene of this place we spoke to the owner about our disappointment and walked out without paying. We have never felt the need to do this in any other cafe or restaurant but felt we had no other choice as we were so disappointed. Steer clear! Im sure there are much better places in Penrith.

Really quirky place with unusual tea pots cups etc. Totally quirky Guy seemed like he was making fresh pots of tea to order so if it is busy may take five minutes to get served. However so many different things to see and conversation points you will enjoy the experience. Good selection of art supplies as well for the artist in you

Stumbled across this lovely little place on Sunday morning while out for a little walk. Just called in for a hot drinks and the gentleman that served us was very nice and polite. The drinks (latte and hot chocolate) were very nice and just what we wanted on a cool morning. Interesting surroundings and right next to a large church. Certainly be back when next in the area. Well worth a visit.

Not to be missed when in Penrith the best gluten free selection and dog friendly too. Coeliac friendly and the staff couldn't do enough. Eclectic mix of musical instruments in the gallery adds to the atmosphere, not to mention the beautiful old English sheepdog Scrumpy. A brilliant place to while away an hour or two.

Popped in for lunch. Very quirky and cosy at the same time - loved all the wall plaques with different sayings on them. Owner very pleasant and friendly, and a good selection on the menu. We had toasted and ordinary sandwiches with a fresh salad - very tasty and reasonably priced. Great place to sit and listen to some good Blues music playing in the background. if you visit take some dog biscuits for "Scrumpy" the resident Old English sheepdog - you will be a friend for life.We will certainly return. Highly recommended.

having visited a car boot sale in Carlisle we decided to jump down to Penrith and searched out a new place to eat. This little tearoom is just adjacent to St Andrews Church and is well worth a visit. We walked in at 11.00am to a warm greeting from the owner and his friendly sheepdog. He took our orders vegan breakfast for Trish and English breakfast for me. All the food was cooked there and then and had not been kept on a warm grill, so the egg was soft and lovely, Trish's Quorn (bacon style) strip nice and crispy and everything was very tasty. Now because everything is cooked to order expect to wait a wee bit longer. The tea and coffee came after 15 minutes and the food after 24 minutes, but absolutely no complaints. We topped it off with a tea for me and a latte for Trish the whole lot came to £20.20, so very good value as well. The decor will probably not be to everyone's taste as it is a little quirky but we loved it, as we did the resident sheepdog. It also passed the toilet test, ladies and gents toilets were spotlessly clean.

Great atmosphere. Is the rain getting to you? Or perhaps your traveling companions? Duck into this quirky cafe and you may find someone dabbling a bit on the piano or writing a poem in the corner. If tea doesn't solve it (but it did!), there's always a wonderfully behaved and adorable dog to pet!

Well, I ate the food and didn't die, so I guess I can't say it was Terrible, but it was pretty darn close. The people were pleasant enough, although looking like they missed their morning shower. A HUGE, slobbering dog was also very pleasant, but I (and most of the clientele) did not seem keen to have him wandering up to their tables while they ate, or into the kitchen where food was being prepared. The window shelves were covered with tea pots and nick nacks all around, unfortunately, all covered in dust. I ordered an omelet, which arrived as the most unusual-looking omelet I've ever seen. They could be so much better, but as the town didn't have much going on, they don't seem to have much competition, so I suppose they figure why bother. Not returning.

If you like multi- national, overpriced cafe outlets then don't visit here, but if you like a friendly and different experience then Eden Gallery Tea Rooms is the place to go. We enjoyed an excellent home made spinach and artichoke pasta bake followed by a very tasty home made tea cake and coffee. The owner was chatty and attentive despite both cooking and serving the food. The decor is certainly different and quirky but items on display where interesting and added to the relaxing atmosphere. Whilst tucked away next to the Church it's location is ideal as its in the middle of Penrith.

It ticks all my boxes. Good ambience, different to any other tea room I've been in and relaxing. Do not go in if you are wanting something immediate like in most high street cafes, you go in here to relax, enjoy taking in all the place has to offer like local mags and books to browse while you wait. Local perfume is on sale here as well as second hand musical instruments etc. We had curry, the best we've had in a long time and , yes, you do have to wait a little while but it was worth waiting for. Dogs are welcome here although I've only seen the owners dog, Scrumpy and she is lovely although usually relegated to a place out of the way. The café has always been clean(we've been twice) and I wish there were more like it. Good luck to the fella that runs it.

Was on a brief visit to Penrith and found this quirky café down a side street off the main street by the church. We were just after a mid-afternoon snack and this café didn't disappoint. We had a pot of tea which was lovely (hard to find a proper brew sometimes), a hot chocolate with the trimmings and a muffin and chocolate. Very reasonable price and friendly service. The décor is hard to describe but I much prefer this to a coffee chain café. There was art for sale as well as paints, candles, jams etc. There were books to read or exchange and lots of nik naks on display. Nice view of the church out of the windows. Dog friendly café. A little off the beaten path in downtown Penrith, we found Eden. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner and his sweet dog. We ordered tea for two, a small panini, and a scone. Had the misfortune to come across this god awful so called "tearoom" today!Dismal, dark and a bit dirty. Tables not cleaned, extremely slow service and unpleasant cluttered surroundings, steamed up windows possibly so you were unable to see from outside until you were already trapped inside. A very Long wait for food, (with only 6 people in at the time including the two of us), to be presented with very disappointing and unappetising food.Ordered two jackets potatoes with cheese and coleslaw, waited 25 minutes, to be given two potatoes microwaved to death, smothered in melted congealed cheese, which looked simply awful. Couple opposite sent back a panini that was burnt to a crisp on one side but turned over to hide this fact. When we sent the jacket potatoes back we were greeted by the so called chef who blamed "us" for not telling them that we didnt want the cheese melted and proceeded to explain that he had always cooked that way and demanded we pay for at least one as it wasn't tneir fault!!To add insult to injury, whilst at the till, the owners had a sheep dog tied to the door near the kitchen entrance scratching itself and the hygiene certificate dated January 2017 pinned to the window was covered in mould!!! On my word, i have never seen anything like this before, would i recommend this place... Hell no !!

On our way home from weekend of camping we were looking for a cafe that would allow dogs and we stumbled across the tea room. The owner was very welcoming and we enjoyed a lovely lunch- bacon and egg roll, omelette, tea cake and scrambles egg and bacon on toast. This was all cooked fresh and was enjoyed by everyone. We then had cakes and hot drinks. I enjoyed a freshly baked carrot cake that had been made by the owner that morning, it was delicious! It's a very quaint tea room that offers some very homely and welcoming. The owner obviously takes pride in providing home cooking. I would happily go back if I was visiting Penrith again.

Stopped in Penrith on a damp Sunday returning from Norfolk, en route to Glasgow. Most coffee shops/cafeterias were shut, so we were delighted to find the Eden Gallery open, the proprietor welcoming. This is a quaint little place and the proprietor was happy to make me a sandwich filling which was not on the menu. Very satisfactory and we will return. In fact we did return some weeks later en route to Yorkshire only to find that Monday was the day off! Never mind, we will be back next time we are in Penrith.

Walking through the lovely town of penrith after i finished work, nice to pop in here to relax after work as the new owner is a lovely friendly attentive gentleman. There was a few customers in there having breakfast, chatting and laughing with the owner.I ordered bacon, egg and sausage in a roll and was asked if i would like the bread at the side or everything inside, that's so nice to be asked how i would like to have my breakfast, such a nice touch. And i had tomato sauce also in its own ramekin at the side, with a cup of tea, love that nothing matches and its retro!Ken is ok with people playing on the piano, a young child was in playing on the piano while their parents were having a drink and a bite to eat. So disappointed. Place had weird atmosphere. Eclectic mix of decoration. Sheep dog asleep under counter was no trouble. Place doesn't appear to know its identity. Discovered it's under new ownership since January 2017. Tables had not been cleared on arrival. They were cleared but paper table cover which was dirty not replaced. ordered omelette salad and tea. Simple enough order you would think. Tea was presented nicely in China tea cups n saucers with a quaint tea pot which wasn't clean. Tea was hot but grey in colour and didn't improve as it brewed. The omelette came swimming in some kind of oil, eggs had not been whisked properly. Had a sloppy consistency and tasted ghastly. When mentioned when paying it was refunded. Will not visit again.

It was by chance that we happened upon this cafe up a side alley by the side of the church. We were intending to have a short break during our long journey but once we discovered this cafe we were quite happy to linger! The staff were very friendly and even helped us with directions to other shops that we were looking for to save us time during our "quick" stop. The sandwiches came with a beautiful salad filled with fruit as well. I asked for no salad with my panini and was given the option to add chips. I had actually assumed he meant tortilla chips and was highly delighted when I discovered it was "real" chips! They were home made and very fluffy just how they should be and they put many restaurants who insist on serving frozen chips to shame!! We certainly intend to make a detour again the next time we are in the area :)
