BEWARE! Not often that I feel the need to leave such a negative review. 4 years ago this was an Award Winning Restaurant and I have eaten there many times. Visited last week and had one of the worst and most expensive meals I have ever suffered. Smoked Haddock Cheese Soufle to start (£12), small dry and tasteless. Halibut main (£24), the smallest sliver of tasteless fish served with one potato, a few greens and some tasteless cold "butter sauce". Absolute disgrace, my friends "Whole" Plaice just as bad. Tiny portions of overpriced, tasteless food. Didn't bother with desserts, we went home and prepared some food as we were so hungry. You have been warned!

Out today on a fine day and took the opportunity to visit the Ebrington Arms ,a quaint country pub we’ve not visited for a number of years.Arrived soon after 12.00 pm and as only requiring a light bite opted for the soup of the day. Two soups arrived ( butternut squash) along with a fruit juice and half a pint of beer at £24. Costing probably the norm today with the high cost of eating out, but surprisingly no rustic bread or butter to accompany what was albeit a tasty soup after seasoning with pepper and salt which I had to request for from behind the bar. I cannot recall ordering soup elsewhere and not receiving the obligatory addition of a least a bread roll.

We visited over the weekend and had Sunday lunch, looked after by the lovely Megan and the manager with a jazzy shirt and beard (didn’t catch his name). Our pork belly roast was divine, as was the beef. It’s clear that they were busy and fully booked as there were plenty of happy tables around us. Price wise it’s a little more than we normally pay but that’s a sign of the good quality. The pub is full of low beams and as such ducking sometimes is the option, but the age of the building is why that is. We’d love to stay one day as we were told and saw there were rooms at the pub.

We booked our table for Sunday lunch a few weeks in advance and arrived early for our table. We were told our table was ready (great) so we both visited the rest rooms that are the end of the restaurant and admired the wonderful atmosphere in the main areas. Only a handful of tables were seated as it was early and the layout looked great, there were cosy 2 tops scattered all over the rooms and there was a welcoming buzz about the place. We arrived back to the greeting area and was pointed in the direction of a side room that had one family of 6 sat at a table with all the other tables were empty. There were menus placed on the table for two right next to them. We could see that we were literally sat at the end of their table as if we were dining with them, so I asked the server if we could possibly have another table as the restaurant was fairly empty. He said no, that was our table, as we sat down the family stopped talking and the silence to the atmosphere was awful. We sat for a moment viewing the menu and spoke to each under our breath about what we would have. After a few minutes we both decided it was not going to be the relaxing Sunday lunch, we couldn't talk to each other and the other family looked awkward as I was almost touching the shoulder of the man at the end of their table. We decided to leave as spending the best part of £100 to sit in awkward silence and just eat is not the experience we dine out for, we would have easily had more privacy in a McDonalds. On the way out I spoke to the duty manager and said we have decided not to eat as the atmosphere is uncomfortable and unpleasant for both tables. He offered for us to sit in the bar area where people wait for their restaurant table but we had hoped for a relaxing , comfortable Sunday lunch and sadly a table in the bar wasn't our plan. We said as we left we would re-visit because it looks lovely in the main restaurant but on hindsight, there are so many options in the Cotswolds why would we take the risk? I don't think we're special and want the best table in the restaurant whilst others have the awful ones, because the table they seated us at would be OK (at best) if there were other diners in the room and there was a bit of atmosphere, possibly later in the day. But the room was empty other than the family that we practically sat with. As they became busier the table could be used but not when we were the only ones in there. If you are planning on a visit I would recommend you call and specify you don't want the side room, unless you like communal dining and joining new friends whilst you eat.

During our visit to the Ebrington Arms, we were thoroughly pleased with the entire experience. Our waiter, Chris, who we later discovered was the manager, showcased exceptional knowledge, enthusiasm, and attentiveness, setting the perfect tone for our visit. Following his recommendation, we decided to try the venison, and his description of the dish perfectly matched what we received - a sensational, flavourful dish that left us thoroughly satisfied. Chris also impressed us with his extensive knowledge of wines and his meticulous attention to detail. The decor is sadly a bit beige and our furniture was very mismatched, but it didn’t scupper an excellent visit.

Chose from the lunch menu. Starters were nice… truffled mushrooms and celeriac soup. The soup needed a little salt but better too little than too much Ordered belly pork and grilled sea bass fillet for main course. Waited a good while and the waiter told us no belly pork but would substitute sausages. My wife wasn’t keen and switched to sea bass. When they arrived one sea bass had a very soggy skin… obviously left on the side while they cooked another. The table behind us got the same story having ordered pork belly and sea bass. And then much to our amusement they returned to say they had run out of seabass too and would serve cod instead. So… we had 1 substitution for lunch and the next table were 0 out of 2. Pretty poor really for such a respected restaurant. Beware, things may be on the slide

We’ve made a tradition of coming to stay for a long weekend in Ebrington every year at this time of year, and a real highlight has been visits to the Ebrington Arms for dinner. Every year we’ve looked forward to dining there and booking has always been essential. Not this evening. Despite there being loads of empty tables in the dining area, the service was slow and we waited ages for our food. The starters were lovely. The mains were dreadful. Two of us had the burgers which were stone cold. I’d already sent back my chips which were cold. The chicken breast dish was tasteless and the serving was mean - as was the halibut - a tiny portion of fish for £30. Overpriced, cold, tasteless food. Something has gone wrong here. And clearly others feel the same as the place was practically empty. The manager said he’d started two weeks ago and said that everything was fine - but clearly it wasn’t, as I overheard another diner state that he wouldn’t be paying any service charge. The manager was kind enough to take 25% off our overall bill as a gesture of goodwill, and we are grateful for that. But it’s a real shame - a disappointing evening and we shan’t return.

We ate at the Ebrington Arms as a group a few times. It's an historic restaurant with lots of charm, and good food at a reasonable price for the Cotswolds. Recommend the Sunday roast! The customer service could be improved, starting with a friendly welcome when you walk in the door.

On booking a table online, there is an option to make any comments. I wrote that it was our anniversary, hence booking dinner. My husband and I are local and had been to Ebrington Arms approx 5 years ago, so we thought we would give it a go. When we arrived in the bar area, we had no option than to stay at the corner of the bar as there was a small child playing with their toys on the floor to the entrance to the front of the bar area and beyond this child there were several dogs. When I managed to get the attention of the bar staff, we were greeted with, “Have you booked a table?” We had, we were shown straight to our table, asked if we would like some water for the table and menus were left with us. No one came back to ask if we would like to order a drink (alcoholic/soft etc) , so we sat there with a glass of water each for approx 10 minutes. The waitress came to take our order, but we had to ask her if we could order a drink... We ordered from the 'nibbles' section to share initially followed by cod for me and pea risotto for my husband. After almost eating one of the cheesy ball nibbles, my husband found a piece of glass in one of them. I called the waitress over, although I have since discovered it was the deputy manager, I had collared her on the way through from the kitchen as she headed towards the bar and I could tell she wasn't overjoyed at being interrupted. She said sorry, took it away and a replacement was brought out by another member of staff who also apologised, but it was half hearted and there was no eye contact. Plus no additional cutlery was brought out, we had to ask for more. Overall my cod was tasty, the pea risotto was underwhelming and the service poor. Very disappointing, particularly as they position themselves as a premium establishment and charge premium prices. Coming from the service and hospitality business, this was one of the worst evenings for service and atmosphere. Whilst a replacement starter was bought out, it was still included in the bill - something that I would never had done,. I would also have considered offering complimentary drinks. How to turn a negative into a positive experience is all part of Management Training. I would also have taken note of the fact it was a special occasion and made a gesture in recognition of this. Very disappointing

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch, I often find, being vegetarian, that you rarely have an actual Sunday lunch option that includes roasters and Yorkshire's, but this did, so top marks for that. It was so lovely to have a similar meal to my husband who is a meat eater. The location of the pub is also idyllic and the staff were great. We were on holiday, but next time we are back in the area, we will certainly go again.

Welcoming and friendly. Great Sunday roast with plenty of vegetables. We had booked a table for 12.30 so when we arrived it was very quiet and did lack a bit of atmosphere. The interior is very characterful but a little dark which is expected for a property of this age. There is a nice outside garden area for drinks/eating on fine warm days. There is plenty of parking in the car park and a short walk to the pub. The service was professional and efficient.

I booked a night to stay here while exploring the Cotswold. It was my wife’s birthday and we toured Highclere Castle(Downton Abby) earlier that day. When we checked into Ebrington Arms we also asked for a table to have dinner. The atmosphere was amazing. It felt like stepping back 400 years in time. An old lodge dating back to the 1500’s. The food was good. My wife had a gluten free fish and chips and I had a really good burger and fries. Loved the place.

Called in for dinner at 8pm. We were greeted with, “Have you booked a table?” We hadn’t. “Well we stop serving food at 8:15pm” was the reply. To which we said, “Ok, can we eat then, please?” The reply was, “Well, I’ll have to ask the management.” It was obvious they didn’t want us there. It was a Monday evening and they obviously wanted to shut up early. Not a very hospital place at all. My partner and I could not believe what we were hearing and we walked out in disgust!

A lovely pub with several different dining areas and friendly staff., but the place was surprisingly quiet for a Friday evening. The quality of the food was very good, but the menu choices were odd. As a chef, I learned very early that ‘balance’ was very important in a menu and I’m afraid this was not there on this occasion. With 9 or 10 choices of main there were three fish dishes, two vegetarian and no chicken or casserole/pie dish. I felt cornered into having a steak, which was good quality and perfectly cooked, but I would have liked to see a broader choice. Otherwise very good.

It was with great expectation we decided to eat at the Ebrington Arms, and to be honest the experience wasn't great. I ordered the Pan fried cod fillet, butternut squash, curry sauce, peanuts, and coriander, and was a £25 main course. The cod definitely wasn't pad fried and was very salty! I'm not sure what I was meant to taste regarding the butternut squash, but couldn't associate anything on the plate resembling it! When I mentioned my dissatisfaction to the waitress, she smiled at me and walked off not, not really taking my comments very seriously. Neither did I get any feedback when the bill was presented. Overall though it was a positive experience, but not one I'd want to repeat.

Let's face it , we have always been routing for the "very local " Ebrington hotel and have been going there from day dot ! (Literally , we were at the opening!) I was hesitant until now to comment as to be honest it wasn't to my liking which is to be expected on the opening of any property. Many times, we have eaten and drank there, and unfortunately, it was not up to par . I am so thrilled to write this review as we had the most wonderful dining experience overall in the city over the last three years. The food was delectable, and the service was excellent (thank you, Bobby) . We ordered gnocchi and parfait to start, which was bursting with flavour! The attention to detail on presentation was close to Micilin star. We had duck with all the trimmings (other than Kilronan Castle County Rocomman , Ebrington matched this perfectly, which, I thought was impossible) quality/local ingredients. The wine section is extensive (I did a blind wine tasting! I thought I knew my wines but picked the house house to be the best at a very reasonable price too). The view from our table was fairytale like with a view of the Christmas lights and the peace bridge. Overall , well done, Ebrington ! You have and are still working hard on perfecting your image, and I can only say , I DO recommend, and I WILL be back. Thank you

We came here for dinner whilst staying in Ebrington. The pub is lovely and cosy, with friendly, welcoming staff. The menu had a good selection of dishes, and I was impressed how many were gluten free. I was so surprised at some of the dishes that were gluten free, I had to ask if it was correct, but was told it was, so was able to enjoy white bait for a starter, and Chicken Milanese for a main. Both were delicious and it was so nice to be able to have dishes I can't normally eat. My boyfriend had the calamari, and then the burger, and was equally impressed. It is fairly pricey, but this is a gastro-pub in the Cotswolds, and the food was excellent.

3 of the 4 of our party ordered roast beef Sunday lunch. We’ve visited the Ebrington Arms many times before for the same meal and previously it’s been excellent. This time the beef was so tough none of us could cut it with our knives. The waitress’s response was to ask if we wanted steak knives. We asked if we could just have another cut of beef if that was available. The answer was that it was available but to ‘be safe’ we should have something else. We chose pork and received new meals. The pork portion was small, the vegetables very al dente and the roast potatoes over cooked. There was no offer to reduce the cost of the meals, nor offer anything else by way of apology. The service was slow throughout although the restaurant appeared less than half full. The whole experience was very disappointing.

Disappointing…. We were a group of 14 who had to pre-order well in advance only to be told upon arrival that many of our dishes weren’t available. In fact both my starter & main choice were not available ! I understand a small restaurant has to plan for a large group but it would seem that nothing had been done with our pre order. Not all beers were available - as displayed on the small menu. We had to wait 45 minutes for the ‘pre-ordered’ starters to arrive. We were jammed in to a side area of the restaurant along as a wall, so no one could get out of their seat easily and it became very hot. Food was lovely but I wouldn’t return due to all the problems with the service.

What a beautiful place Ebrington is! A beautiful village surrounded by beautiful unspoilt countryside which was great for a pre lunch 5 mile walk. Really nice couple working front of house who were helpful but not at all pushy. Menu was compact which is how I like it as little done well is usually far better than a lot done badly. Despite the walk I was not really hungry but went for the squid and chicken escalope. The first came almost by return of order and was pretty good and decent portion size for a “nibble”although the accompanying Mayo was a bit tasteless for me. The chicken escalope was with roasted new potatoes and broccoli all for £22!!! The coating had been over cooked and was hard but chicken alright. The potatoes had not been within 10 feet of an oven, the broccoli was disappointing and the plate swimming in butter. When I pointed this out, when asked if it was too much for me, the only response was to ask if we wanted the desert menu…. The vegetarian options of whipped goats cheese and Pithivier of vegetable was pretty good apparently. All in all it was ok but would have to think hard before returning. Shame.

We have known this pub for many years and it is fair to say that when it changed hands, combined with the Covid scare and what that has done to hospitality as regards staffing difficulties, there was clearly a dip in quality and service. We...

It was telling that during our afternoon at The Ebrington Arms not a single member of staff asked us if we were enjoying the food… They knew that we were not. The various dishes we had were under seasoned, overcooked and severely lacking in flavour....

We visited for lunch last year and found the service by a certain man to be lacking and also the food to be very overpriced and in certain places downright terrible ("roasted" cauliflower that was raw for 4 pounds) The wine is disgusting and stupidly...

Visited recently and the sour faced man behind the bar means we won’t be visiting again. He was totally disinterested to the point of being rude. Why are all your drinks organic with no option to buy anything else? Not impressed
