The Eatery Express in Chelmsford

We use to love this place but it has really gone down hill, got there when it opened and within a few minutes of ordering our breakfast already came, uncooked eggs, tomatoes that’s definitely wasn’t fresh, food was just warmed up, had to leave we couldn’t feed our toddler. What a shame!!

Booked a lunch with friends, didn't have to wait too long for our meals, but my panini tuna and cheese was very fatty and limp, no crunch at all, , it came with one slice of tomato and two rocket leaves, not a very appetising meal, the lasagna wasnt vert nice and someone else’s chips were cold, will give this cafe a miss in future

Very cheap and shows it, cheap bread, cheap ingredients and bargain food if that’s what you want. I recommend you eat at home rather than go here, if you want a meal out then research a better place

Thought we would have breakfast this morning very impressed with the prices they seem very very cheap but thought that because the restaurant was full it was a good sign Two hard working waitresses the younger one a bit in her own world but the other waitress completely on the ball Ordered breakfast and tea which quickly came to table however good size portions and hot food however the oil that had been used in the fryer was old and needed changing as all the fried food had a “sour twang” to it and that really ruined the meal

Husband wanted to try the pie and mash they do here. Apparently originall pie’s . He said it was quite nice. I had a club sandwich with chips Sandwich was ok, chips a bit lame! Fries would be better! Service is very good, and the staff are so friendly..

This cafe can be found in the Town centre, the staff there are very friendly, they have a good menu & can provide you with some nice food & drink, all for a very reasonable price.

My husband and i nipped out for dinner on friday night, and couldn’t make a choice of where to go. We stopped to look at the menu at Mango and thought it looked good. Once inside we were sat at our table and Mike came to see us along with the menus and explained that they were doing an offer of 5 dishes and a drink for 18.99! We decided that sounded great and went on to pick our dishes from the menu.. The food was incredible! We were both amazed, from the starter to the naan-everything was beautifully hot and flavourful. There was so much that we were able to take some home in a doggy bag absolutely recommend and we will be visiting again.

Starting with the staff, WOW they really were amazing especially this young chap Sam helping me choose my order and pick my fork up when dropped. Next is the food well this was also quality eggs bacon cheese sausage was all spot on.

Popped into The Eatary on Sunday with my husband for brunch, food was amazing, I'm currently on a diet and they didnt mind changing the menu slightly to accommodate which I personally thought was great customer service. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be going back.

I came to the eatery today on a very hot day and had a delicious chocolate milkshake to cool me down. As a vegetarian I wasn't limited by choice and i enjoyed a veggie breakfast that was very filling. They also made sure i didn't want a vegan milkshake (soy milk) as i'm veggie. Overall the service was quick and staff where very friendly. Also nice and cool inside with air con to cool down!

My friends and I come to the Eatery very often. The food is always amazing and the service is great! We always feel well looked after. They offer indoor and outdoor seating so great for any weather. The english breakfast is perfect and they will always accommodate to your needs. They also offer a wide variety of food and drink to suit everyone. Today i had a salad as the weather was so hot, it was perfect.

Went to The Eatery today with a friend and was a very enjoyable visit. Staff are so friendly and attentive. Making sure drinks were kept topped up and food was perfect. I enjoyed the club sandwich and would recommend for lunch. Set in a lovely square with outside seating. Perfect for the nice weather today.

This a delightful place to eat in a modern shopping precinct. We were invited by a local organisation to do one of our wildlife talks and we were invited for a meal too! Both our meals were excellent and the cheese board was really good too.

I've been here a few time to eat in eat outside or pick up a sarnie and cake. The food is all lovely and reasonably priced. I especially like their cooked breakfast. The cakes are all lovely too.

Always with this establishment. Something wrong with my meal. Burned bacon, toasted sandwiches that have lost their filling. Not asked what kind of toast you want with a breakfast, eggs that are a just a little uncooked.

Have eaten here a couple of times now and it is a lovely clean, modern and friendly place to eat, however, last week on our visit and upon paying for our meal, the girl who was taking payment started having a coughing bout and was coughing into her hands (no mask on), then apologised and touched the computerised payment screen for us to do payment. I wish I had said something at the time as it has been bugging me ever since. To the management: please ensure masks worn and they need for sanitisation for staff

1st time eating here, I chose jacket potato & beens, potato was cooked in microwave not impressed very dry & potato was very small, had a spoonful of beans, salad was nice & fresh.. need to improve on the jacket potatoes.

Have to admit the food was very nice, but the price was not as I could of got the same meal for £3 less else where, and have a proper cup of tea with it as this fine establishment seem not to have soya milk for teas and coffees so if you are like me and have a dairy allergy be careful of what you eat...but on the case of milk my wife’s milk was off leaving the milk bits on bottom...but all in all not worth the money

It’s nothing like your cooking but for a decent price you get few options Big portions but lacking taste and qualify A bit on the burned side and my avocado toast was only smeared with avocado in the middle ...If you don’t feel like cooking it’s clean, a nice atmosphere , young staff so you keep youngster in jobs and provide a bit of extra as a tipBetter than McDonald’s or costa food but poor quality

This cafe can be found in the centre of the town It is light & airy, the staff there are very friendly. They have a good menu & all their food can be purchased for a very reasonable price.

Food was really nice - 2 Full English breakfasts. Just painfully slow. Staff were all good and very polite. An hour & 15 mins is a little too long to be having breakfast. Would definitely go back though.

After doing some shopping we decided we would go & have some lunch & decided to revisit this café. The staff there are very friendly, it is a nicely laid out place & they have a good menu which should suit all tastes & their food can be purchased for a very reasonable price.

It is very nice that we have a good local cafe in South Woodham Ferrers, the staff there are very pleasant, the cafe itself is very light & airy. They have a good menu which should suit all tastes, all their food is freshly prepared & cooked to your requirements

Went on a wednesday lunchtime was busy but had enough staff, to run this small cafe, if all were doing their job correctly, as it was, tables were left dirty and uncleared, forcing people to clear them to be able to sit down,, if staff return to the counter, they should never go empty handed, they should also take dirty dishes, with them, so then tables would get cleared and wiped efficently, now getting back to the menu, it's very extensive and impressive, but a lot of the items were not available, I asked for chicken tikka wrap, and was told they only have bbq chicken, which I had, but it didn't taste very nice, it certainly wouldn't have been my choice, and salad garnish, why bother, pathetic looking lettuce, thinnest slice of tomato and cucumber, not worth having, it wouldn't't be my choice of venue, for the future

This is my regular Cafe for coffee just before i start my cleaning shift . Coffee is just Perfect for me . Will all ways go back for more coffee . I have tried the breakfast

We popped in here for a mid morning breakfast. Loads of choice on the menu. I had the Vegetarian regular cooked breakfast. Nice enough and cooked well. And hot which is important. The boss had the junior breakfast as she didn't want too much.

Have visited here twice. The first time we were really inpressed. We had fishfinger sandwiches which were so so nice!! The second time this wasn't on the menu :( but we had bacon and brie paninis which were nice again. When we got in the table was dirty and we were seated by the window and the windowsill was also not very clean. Also the side salad the paninis come with I just don't think is necessary; it's a silly amount. I didn't eat it because it looked so pathetic.

Fuimos al restaurante para almorzar con mi madre y tengo que decir que el servicio era muy pobre, la verdad. Como he derramado coca-cola en un vaso de vidrio que descubrí que estaba sucia, así que pedí un reemplazo. Este fue hecho de culpar al lavavajillas para el error. Pedimos nuestra comida, un huevo baguette y una mayonesa de atún baguette. Pedí cebollas y pimientos con el atún, que la camarera dijo que estaría bien. Después de esperar 40 minutos nuestra comida no había llegado. Me registré y me dijeron que era un problema de comunicación con la cocina y las baguettes sólo había sido puesto en el horno! Esperamos más de 10 minutos o así. Una vez la comida llegó no tienen cebollas o pimientos (ninguna disculpa) me dijeron que la cocina "Ay no tiene ningún 'pero ella se comprueba con la cocina. A pesar de ser este es N. sirve ensaladas, etc. en el menú. La camarera de propiedad hasta que no escriba mi preferencia. No es bueno. La pequeña ensalada de guarnición (lechuga, tomate, pepino), me imagino que poner en cada placa se colocaron dentro de mi tuna baguette, así que fue mucho, no hay nada en el lado y esto fue después de esperar 45/50 minutos. No me ofrecieron una de coca-cola tras descubrir la copa estaba sucio y tener algunos en el cristal derramado sucia. Cuando fuimos a pagar ni siquiera conseguir una disculpa de cualquier tipo y era pagar el coste total de la comida en vez de ofrecieron un descuento, esto hubiera sido un bonito gesto. Nos quedamos muy decepcionados con nuestra experiencia esp como sólo reunirse cada ahora y otra vez. Parecía que el personal no importa, bastante desinteresada. Sospecho que por eso tranquilo. Evitar la gente en preferencia por otro de los cafés en SWF.

Me he alojado aquí unas cuantas veces y siempre me pareció que la comida era buena o muy buena y el servicio sorprendentemente buena así, especialmente porque todo el personal esperando parece que muy pequeños.

Llevé a mi madre para el almuerzo para el restaurante en el 3 de mayo de 2017. Pedimos a las 12 del mediodía uno frito sandwich de huevo y queso y champiñones en pan tostado. Sólo había cuatro otros clientes en el lugar. El bocadillo de huevo nunca llegó a la mesa hasta las 12. 40 seguido de queso en pan tostado en 12. 45. Madres huevos estaba mojado y se cayó en la mitad pasada y como ella intentó recogerlo de la placa. Mi tostada estaba húmeda y también pasada. Llevé todo volver a recepción y a la izquierda.

Almorcé aquí hace unos días, la comida estaba bien, pero nada especial. El servicio era un poco de los ángeles, el té fue dividido y la camarera difícil coger un piso. Tuvimos que encontrar nuestro propios menús. Me pareció que la comida era un poco...

Después de las compras en el supermercado Asda nos apetecía algunos refrescos, así que decidimos ir a el restaurante y tomar una taza de café y un pedazo de pastel. Así como aperitivos que pueden ofrecerle un buen desayuno caliente, así como otros platos calientes,...

Visited with my wife for a lunchtime meal. We went to a table but waited around 5 minutes before a waitress attended. It was busy but not overly so. The waitress, (a younger girl) did seem to be distracted and not paying particular attention. Drinks of a team and a latte coffee together with two main meals of salmon were ordered. Two coffees arrived so one was sent back and it was replaced with a tea.Then only one main meal arrived...Another lady who we believe is the owner came to the table and apologised. She said she thought it odd that only one main had apparently been ordered and we told her that we had ordered two and that it didn't look like the waitress who served us was paying attention. Rather than wait while another salmon meal was cooked, an alternative was then ordered. The meals were ok but not really anything special. Mine should have had a sauce but was in fact dry. I have had issues in the past with meals. It is a popular venue in tge town so maybe I have just been unlucky but unfortunately, with the amount of choice in the area, I don't think I shall be rushing back.

Been here a few times for breakfast or lunch, can't fault the food, the modern decor is nice and bright with lengthy of tables. Always welcomed by the staff who are attentive. Last visit though was a bit to relaxed, we had to clear away our own plates to make room for more drinks,a small point but disappointing.

Best bacon & egg sandwich in town. Staff always friendly and service is quick and always with a smile.

The staff there are very friendly, the place is neatly laid out & they have a nice menu. They can provide you with a very nice breakfast & many other appetising dishes which will be cooked to your choice & all for a very reasonable price.

My mother is a regular at the Eatery and her and her friends are always saying how lovely the food is and how welcoming all the staff are. Having now become a regular with my family when we are in town, I can only agree.The produce is always fresh and there is all ways something on the menu, even for the fussiest of eaters- our three sons!Decent food at affordable prices, just what South Woodham Ferrers needed.See you soon!

I was directed to this place by a lovely old couple as I needed somewhere to wait and eat before my driving lesson. I was welcomed immediately and brought a lovely cup of tea to help me warm up. I ordered a regular breakfast and I can honestly say it was one of the best I've had in a long time. One of the staff commented that they had made a few mistakes recently and they were working hard to repair any damage done. Well on this occasion they did extremely well and when I'm waiting for my next driving lesson I'll definitely go for breakfast again.

Today i visited the eatery for lunch with my mum and sister. I ordered the chicken wrap and some chips on the side. I had half eaten my wrap when I looked down and the wrap had blue mould on it in a couple of places. This totally put me and my sister and mum off our food and none of us finished our meal. We told the waitress who offered us another one but by this time I really didn't want to eat anything in there. When we come to pay they took my wrap and Coke off of the bill, however my mum and sister still had to pay for their meals, even though they only half ate them after I found the mould on the wrap. We will not be returning.

Went to The Eatery with a few of my friends for a lunch. I was very disappointed with my Panini. Some of the cheese were burnt and the bread was really hard. It didn't taste very fresh.

The service was excellent and the food was nice . The toilets were clean and the restaurant was tidy .

We went here for breakfast last March, and where quite impressed, so my friend and I thought we'd try tea and a cake (the menu offers " a selection").Service was slow, and when we asked for a cake, the waitress looked at us as if we'd asked her to bring us the crown jewels or an elephant or something even odder. Cake, it seems, was not to be had, so we had our tea and found cake elsewhere.Undaunted, a few weeks later, my husband and I thought we'd try once more; when we entered, we were barely acknowledged, but we sat and waited to have our order taken, then we waited some more, and after fifteen minutes of being ignored, we walked out.In the words of the song :"Never going back again"- why should I?!

Good breakfast, clean and friendly staff, although the service was very slow. We ordered waffles for desserts and eventually cancelled them after a wait of 39 mins!

Had a snack lunch and breakfast the following morning during an overnight stay at a nearby hotel. The staff were efficient and attentive. Food is freshly prepared and nicely presented. Prices are very reasonable.

My husband and I had lunch here and really enjoyed the food, the staff was efficient and kind. Not complaints and good value for money.

Amongst other meals they do a lovely pies & mash, reasonably priced too. They even do take-aways-I know because I take them down to my family in Torquay in Devon.

I went to The Eatery last Saturday and was very disappointed with breakfast. I had poached eggs on toast with mushrooms. The poached eggs were not properly poached, they seemed to be shallow fried in water, both yolks were rock solid. I returned them, which the staff seemed happy for me to do. The second time my food arrived, the yolks were soft but the mushrooms were completely cold and the toast was soaking wet (inedible). Another in our group had a barely cooked sausage with their breakfast, this was sent back and returned with a darker coloured sausage, but one end was cold. They must be pre-cooked and reheated...well partly. On the plus side the food was cheap but I would definitely not return. I have had much better breakfast type food from vans at the side of the road. It seems like a lack of care and attention.

The eatery was brought to our attention through Facebook; friends had eaten there and had spoken positively of it. I had walked past it several times without giving it a second glance so decided to give the place a go. Initial thoughts were thus: decor was bright and pleasant, I enjoyed the subway tiles and the fake brick wall. We were directed to sit down where we reviewed the menu and ordered around 5 minutes later. 2 X black coffees, an eggs benedict and a super full English breakfast with no beans. 15 minutes later my (extremely strong) coffee arrived with a tea. This was not a problem, the waitress swapped it without a fuss. Another 15 minutes later and the food arrived. Not so much as an 'enjoy your meal', the plates were shoved on the table and the waitress walked off. The eggs benedict was ok, it was drowned in the hollandaise sauce. The verdict on the fry up was that again, it was 'okay' but the sausages tasted cheap and the toast was dry.Not only that, it was apparent that the staff weren't getting on behind the counter as there were many little arguments and dark looks shooting between them throughout. The value for money can't be faulted at under £14. Still, it wasn't enough to ensure our return trade as we won't be going back. Well intentioned, just a few minor improvements would have made it so much better. Shame.

Spent a lovely afternoon at the Liquid Lounge (part of the Eatery) South Woodham Ferrers with members of our U3A Wine Tasting Group. We tried 4 cocktails which were excellent. We had lovely food. I even tried a Jäger Bomb!

I've been to the Eatery a few times now. It's an easy place to take family as the options are simple, but plentiful enough that there is choice. I like the sandwiches, jacket potatoes and breakfast.

Used to go to another little cafe and never went in here before they changed location as tbh it looked a bit dark and gloomy in the old place and was a bit scared ha ha. So glad they changed location and I went in for some lunch as now I never go anywhere else! Its absolutely lovely, the food is well priced I think for the sheer quality of meat that you get. Also the food is always well cooked and whoever their chef is I take my heart off to him/her and only wish I could take them home ha ha. Their milkshakes are great and they have a lovely range of food for adults AND children. The staff are also really lovely and I'm often embrrassed/stressed when my child decides "hey lets treat it like a playground" and I'm telling him half a dozen times to sit and he's not listening, thankfully the staff understand and just smile and are friendly. Always take everywhere here when they ask "where shall we go for lunch". :D

This cafe is recommended as the food is top quality. Service is second to none. Very nice breakfasts they do! Breakfasts to order. Would recommend stopping by for something to eat.

Went here for lunch and waited half an hour for 'simple food' and when we asked one of the waitresses how long it would be she was rude to us about it. My friend also asked for a glass of water and once she had taken a sip, she noticed some sort of 'lump' thing stuck to the side of the glass and asked for it to be taken away and the waitress just looked at the glass and walked away, with no apology or another glass being brought out. Once our food came we then asked if we could have some salt and ketchup and the same waitress stood there and just looked at us and then stormed off and came back with the items a few minutes later and just put hem on the edge of the table in a angry manner. When we then went up to pay, she just walked away from the till and started to clean tables that had just been cleaned. Normally we have a fantastic service and the staff are normally very good but this visit makes us not want to come back.

Being originally from SWF I have seen cafe's come and go but this is definitely a keeper. The selection of food is excellent for breakfast and lunch, their coffee is great too and the ingredients seem fresh and well prepared. In the summer it is also nice to sit outside. The food is well priced and orders are taken promptly as is the preparation of the food.

When you have finished your Christmas shopping & want to take the weight off & enjoy some refreshments, why not try the Eatery, the staff are very friendly, they can provide you with a nice cup of tea or coffee & a cake or something more substantial. They do a very good breakfast too as well as other tasty morsels, all at a very reasonable price.

My husband, kids and I popped in for a Saturday breakfast. We were all very pleased with our choices, ranging from a muffin stack to a full English! The prices are very reasonable. The place is very pleasant and clean, the staff very helpful and even when busy smiling! We are definitely returning!

I have eaten here a few times and it's about time I did a review for this place.We are moving to the area soon and first popped in here a few months ago. Since then we have been back a number of times.It is all you could want from a cafe / restaurant. It is clean and tidy, the service is good, the food is good and the price is good. It does not come across as an evening venue (not sure it opens evenings actually), but it is perfect for a lazy lunch

Booked the whole place for wife's 50th family lunch. Excellent choice of Sunday Roast menus and tables and interior transformed from cafe to restaurant atmosphere. The food was really good quality and quantity. Steve, Louise and all the staff couldn't do enough for us and all had a great time. Pricing also very reasonable and would heartily recommend this place.

I visited with my wife on a midweek afternoon we had the Pie and Mash which was really good. Just as good as I've had in the East End years ago. Nice and clean and friendly staff. Well laid out lots of tables but still plenty of room. The only criticism I have is don't expect coffee house Latte, more like instant coffee. Saying that I would return in the future.

I visited this establishment a few times when it was located under the arches of the annex of William De Ferrers School & once again since it relocated elsewhere in the town & on all of these visits found the waitresses to be very friendly when ordering just some coffees & a cake or something more substantial like their excellent breakfasts or other very tasty morsels which are listed on their comprehensive menu. The diner itself is very well laid out & can cater for both large or small parties. They also now do Sunday lunches which are very popular I believe, sothis enterprise is well worth a visit if you require good wholesome food at reasonable prices.

My wife & I visited the Eatery for Sunday lunch for the first time. We had a pleasant visit to the Liquid lounge next door previously so thought we would try this out. We were certainly not disappointed. upon entering the modern clean environment we are greeted by attentive staff. We had the Sunday roasts washed down with some lovely wine. My local farmed beef was exquisite and the accompanying veg cooked to perfection. We will certainly visit here again when next in the area.

(Itchy Fingers) The Eatery opened in South Woodham Ferrers in 2009 on Baron's Road, then opened a sandwich bar opposite its current site; the site of the Town's former police station. It's a building that has had a chequered past, including a stint as the 'Pearl of Asia' Indian Restaurant. The downside to the Pearl of Asia was that while it was bright and modern, with an interesting menu, it was never busy, too much competition. That's not an accusation that can be laid at The Eatery, every time I've visited it's been crowded, verging on rammed. And that's not a result of 'table blocking' - I've been in a nearby branch of a major coffee chain to witness groups of ladies sit chatting for over an hour after finishing their coffees. Nor is it a lack of competition, these days South Woodham Ferrers has another English café, almost opposite, and the aforementioned coffee shop, along with the Town's plethora of Indian, Chinese and Kebab restaurants/take aways.I'll admit, I've only every visited The Eatery for breakfast, but I've heard good reports of their Sunday Roasts and their traditional 'East End' Pie & Mash. The breakfasts I have enjoyed have always been plentiful, freshly cooked and tasty. I tend to go for the 'Eatery Special' while my wife goes for the 'Eggs Benedict'. The waitress service is always friendly, prompt and polite, and the freshly brewed coffee is both tasty and sensibly priced. There are a couple of tables outside, which is pleasant enough when the weather is kind. They also, to their credit, offer a 'Meals on Wheels' service for the Town's older residents, and I've been to parties and functions that The Eatery has catered, those too have been plentiful and tasty. Sometimes you just want 'a full English' and The Eatery delivers it.

For the best coffee in South Woodham. In reality its a notch above your regular coffee shop, offering great service a quick snack and restaurant quality Breakfast Lunch and A la carte meal choice. Sitting there can somehow remind one of days on holidays abroad! Great palace to catch up with friends or have a quite business meeting over drinks and a piece of cake!
