Honesty, we have never before experienced such an ‘UNWELCOME’ entering a pub or restaurant as we did The Earl. The guy behind the bar was so unfriendly and as hard as we tried, it was clear he was not up for any conversation. The pub lacked ambiance and the atmosphere was sombre. This was our last stop after the most amazing week in Cornwall. Such a disappointment! as was the food, which was average at best and and overpriced. Wish we had gone to St Kew!! 😣

Very disappointed with our welcome, we had booked and nobody spoke to us until we told them who we were, we were then shown to our table. We ordered drinks and had to ask for menus. The menu was very different to the menu shown online and so we drank our drinks and left.

We had the best Sunday roast I think I've ever eaten in a pub. The starters were also excellent. Portions generous but not overwhelming and a well-judged menu using quality fresh ingredients. Cosy, charming place, tucked out of the way, but very easy to get to from Wadebridge and worth seeking out. We were lucky in that we went with friends who are local and live in the village. I note that the bad reviews are from the previous management. It changed hands four months ago. For keen horologists, the clocks have gone. Service was relaxed and personal. Highly recommended and I wish the new owners every success - it is well-deserved.

Went to their pie evening last night and wow, how good they are! My wife had the chicken and leek pie with creamy mash and lovely buttery pastry. I had the fish and prawn pie with the fish cooked to perfection and the sauce exactly as it should be. I liked the sautéed cabbage too. An excellent pint of St Austell tribute beer and staff very friendly. Ryan came out for a chat despite the pub being full and we wish them all the success they deserve. We will definitely return!

My partner has been for Sunday lunch a couple of times at The Earl, as it now known, and raved about the quality of the food. We decided to book for dinner on a Saturday evening and it was excellent. The house white is superb - a delicious Falanghina from Puglia. I had the monkfish with chickpeas and courgettes and frankly could have eaten it twice… A simple meal cooked and seasoned to perfection. New landlord Ryan, is also in charge in the kitchen and from what we’ve see so far deserves every success.

With the sad passing of the previous owner/landlady, this charming historic pub has been taken on and given a new lease of life by its new owner and Chef. We loved how it was before, full of clocks and curios, but have embraced the more modern classic country pub style and fresh menu. Although only in Wadebridge on a week's holiday, we went in three times. Alan (head barman) and the Chef (Ryan) made us very welcome indeed and spent time to chat with us when not rushed off their feet with people coming to try the fantastic food. We wish them and all the other staff the very best in making this pub the success it should be and having sampled both the food and the well kept local ales here, are sure that is exactly what it will be.

Great to hear that this place was open again, with new management and a spruce up. We thought we’d give it a try and we’ll definitely be back. Really friendly and welcoming staff and our dog was allowed too. The chef was really helpful going through the menu to show me what was gluten free, and what he could do to adjust some of the dishes, and he tailored a meal just for me. The food was outstanding with extremely high quality ingredients. We were really impressed. This is not just your bog standard pub grub, it’s great dishes beautifully cooked. They’re gradually extending their hours and will also add more to their menu apparently so we’ll come back soon and see how it’s going. We really hope they’re successful as it’s a great little place. Good luck to the new team and we’ll see you again very soon.

We’ve been staying close the the pub all week and visited several times. What some may consider rudeness is simply good friendly banter and we found the bar staff friendly, funny and full of useful local knowledge. The land lady is simply like sitting next to your mum for the evening in front of the fire. Ann is one of the loveliest people you are likely to meet. The food is traditional and served with pride. We loved this place and the people in it.

Four of us had been looking for a place to stop for a pub lunch, saw the sign and decided it looked good. Used the outside toilets on the way in, very grubby. Don’t know when the wash hand basin had last been cleaned and there were cobwebs everywhere, but it was outside. Entering the pub we were told we had 5 minutes to order if we wanted food? When we started looking at the menu quickly, the person in the kitchen looked none too pleased. Two of us had sandwiches, which appeared made with stale supermarket bread, one had a ploughman’s, probably the poorest I’ve seen, it had one small bread roll, one piece of cheese and regular pickle with a bit of salad. The other had ham, egg and chips which was ok but even he didn’t finish it. It was also very overpriced. We should have taken the hint and left when we realised we weren’t wanted! Needless to say, we won’t be back!

Popped into this odd place on a Saturday evening after travelling for 8 hours down to Cornwall. At 7:45 there were only three cars in the quite large car park which was a bit puzzling. On entering the bar the first thing that hit me was the silence. No music, not even any conversation - just the clinking of knives and forks from the 2 tables of diners. I approached the bar and caught the end of some kind of shandy confusion between the woman serving and the punter. Apparently the lemonade goes in first so that it mixes with the beer properly. A bitter top. The bitter goes on top. Right. We ordered a couple of drinks. I had a nice pint of ale which was much appreciated after the long journey. I asked about food but was told that there might be a delay as they had their bookings. Ok fair enough, the place looked basically empty but maybe they have people coming in later and that's fine if they want to cater for smaller numbers of diners. Fine. How long would the delay be? About 15 - 20 minutes. Okay that's fine, no problem. We were directed to a seating area where we could have our drinks. Asked to see a menu and we browsed through it a bit and decided we could probably find something we liked. It's a very 1970's menu. In some contexts it might be seen as kitch or retro. There's even a cheese and pineapple salad which despite being a much maligned combo is still a winning combination in my opinion. I asked if we could have a table but I was met with more anxiety and stress from the woman at the bar and told to wait in the seating area we'd previously been directed to sit at. I was pleasant and polite at all times but I was made to feel at this point as if I was an inconvenience so after a quick chat we my partner and decided to leave. After trying a couple of other restaurants where I was politely told were also fully booked, we returned to our accomodation for the night without any dinner. That's right. We went to bed without any dinner. Which was preferable to the rude and frankly bizare environment at the Earl of St Vincent. Oh and there are clocks. Loads of them.

We’ve eaten here a few times since moving to Wadebridge and each time I am welcomed with brilliant food, friendly service and a great atmosphere. The steak au poivre is amazing!

We visited yesterday and were very pleased to find ourselves in that very rare thing , a well run , welcoming pub that served good food and was also an amazing eclectic space, many historical clocks and other items filling the very well organised pub. It also had a terrific ambience. If we lived neare we would definitely use it as our local.

Was cold outside but even colder indoors. Had a Birthday lunch but was disappointed at the lack of meals available. Specials were Sausage, Egg and Chips!

Let me set the scene, great looking quirky pub, have been thinking about popping in there for years, cracking location. Anyway it was 6.45pm pub totally empty should have been buzzing with Friday night end of week good natured crowd instead dead as a dodo. Should of known soemthing was up from that. Can we bring our dog in NO .... because it’s unhygienic apparently! Issee was a bit upset as she’d just had her biannual bath! My girlfriend was really cheesed off because it had been along cold walk. Fair enough though I guess it’s their boozer! It’s my dog Issee that was offended being called unhygienic, really upset her! You could tell by the look on her face! Also I wasn’t planning to let Issee do the cooking or sit at the table. Blunt unfriendly bar staff. Oh well thank god there’s a 100 other amazing Dog, Human and Child friendly pubs in Cornwall. Lots of love x

Good location, only 15 mins from the town. Nice quirky pub with an olde worlde feel about it, with lots of clocks around the interior. We had a meal which was good, menu selection good, but most things served in a sauce or garlic butter, but sadly the welcome was not particularly friendly, and we were 'held in suspense'for half an hour whilst the landlady decided if we could eat or not, and constantly reminding us of how busy it was - there were 3 other tables (14 people) taken, out of 12 or so tables available. God help them if they're ever fully booked ! Not a dog friendly place, and don't feel it would be child friendly either - too many nic naks on display and within reach !

Quirky, traditional pub/ restaurant with a distinctive 'clock' theme. The drinks are managed well but the food is outstanding. Home cooked by the landlady, the food is always first rate. Ambience, service, food and drink are all of a standard that ensures we keep returning.

If you’re looking for quaint and traditional the look no further. This pub is full of vintage clocks and friendly locals. The menu is varied and the food is good. This is a great little pub hidden away behind the church in Eglishayle.

In trying to find a table for lunch at 13:50, we were asked "you want food"? We were then told bluntly " stopped serving at 14:00". We pointed out the website says 15:00 and got "no" in response. Ignoring the fact that it wasn't 14:00 and the Website says 15:00, this clearly isn't a welcoming pub.Don't go into hospitality if you don't have basic/pleasant communication skills. Giving one star because it it was useful as a toilet stop

Ate here twice - lunch and dinner and was really impressed with the quality of the beer (St Austell's HSD) and the food - crab at lunch, steak in the evening. Whilst I can see that the menu appeared dated there is no substitute for the best ingredients that are well cooked and that is what you get here.

Weird and fascinating with massed antiques, china figurines, plastic flowers and hundreds of old clocks that all do their stuff on the hour. Seemed bizarre to begin with but got to feel rather spooky and strange after a while. To be fair the steak and fish was very well cooked and there was plenty of it but the menu was a throw back from the late sixties / early seventies. Asking what the vegetables of the day were and the answer was a curt 'peas'. Then asking what ice cream there was and the answer was a curt 'vanilla'. The barmaid seemed disinterested in the norms of customer service and making any sort of impression. An experience of sorts but wouldn't go back.

We have visited here before several years ago as friends of the owner, Eddy, who unfortunately recently passed away so as we arrived unnanounced we didnt know how we would find the place. Ann is one incredible lady & still runs the show & does most of the chef work whilst her daughter runs the bar & serves. Frankly the dinner we enjoyed there was second to none & we were delighted to spend time with Ann talking over old times. As well as running the bar & restaurant business she now also keeps Eddy's over 200 precious clocks ticking. This is a unique place & really worth a visit.

Huge compliments to the chef for this wonderful dinner, enjoyed by our party of seven. The Cornish fillet with Stilton was particularly superb. With lots of high quality locally sourced products at reasonable prices available on the menu, we were totally spoilt for choice. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant to people who enjoy quality food in a nice friendly and comfortable establishment.

Meeting with friends who live in Cornwall while on holiday, they booked a lunch time table and gave us directions took a while to find it, what a surpraise when we walked in it was fascinating the pub was full of clocks made a good talking point, I must say the barmaid wasn't very friendly, we ordered our food didn't have to wait to long and were all pleased with our choice, the portions were not to big and were priced right for size which meant we were able to have dessert and coffee, so our visit was enjoyed

Wow! What an incredibly beautiful and quaint pub, tucked away in a wee street. It was like stepping into a clock museum, have never seen so many clocks in my life. We were all mesmerised. It was incredible. The service was great the steaks mouth watering , chicken Kiev delicious and the prices very good. Only downfall, there was no southern comfort. Highly recommend, even if you’re not eating, go and have a drink and a look around.
