If you need gluten free options don't be put off by only one thing marked GF on the menu. They had TONS of celiac-friendly options and even had a separate fryer for chips!!! GF people will know how awesome this is. Lovely staff, super friendly.

Just had a roast. Luke warm. Very little on the plate. No cauliflower cheese because apparently you have to pre order it although we wasn’t asked when we booked whether we would actually like to preorder it…. Because one other person came with us he couldn’t have beef on his mixed roast even though we said he might join but will only confirm three. Had to go to bar to order yet loads of floor staff. All very odd. Tasteless need lots of salt added. Not good and will not return

My stepdad, 6 year old daughter and I spent a lovely afternoon here today. The welcome was very warm, the pub had lots of customers coming and going and the food was really good. I had a lovely steak and Stilton pie and it was generously packed with meat and was very very nice - my stepdad had a full English which he thoroughly enjoyed. The barlady was very very friendly and the chef talked to my daughter for ages and was very lovely. We only come to rochester once a year and got the date of the market wrong!!! We always eat here and had another lovely visit!

Staff were friendly and service was quick despite how busy it was. The interior is decorated with a rustic vibe, and has lots of interesting old signs/advertisements to add to the character of the pub. This was our first trip to Rochester, we were singing at the cathedral and were given time off for lunch. Walking down the High St we found The Eagle Tavern and what a treat it was: proper locals' pub with great staff, excellent beer and really good food cooked from locally sourced ingredients by a chef who takes great pride in his work, especially the Yorkshire puddings. Both our Sunday roasts were huge and of good quality, especially for the price! Special thanks to the bar staff who ran after me with my phone as we walked back up the road and the chef who came out in person to have a chat. Also had a great natter to some of the locals. It's a great pub you've got their Folk! See you next time we're iver!

Your pub is run by the most unfriendly people ever Run by a rugby type at the bar With no sense of humour. When cornered will call the manageress who seems to spend most of her time upstairs Insulted my disabled missus Made no provisions for her And insulted my daughter in law because she joked about buying our Grandson a pint (joke ya know) Waited ages for our food We cancelled the order Upon which we were greeted with a barrage of abuse Both from Rugby Type and Rottweiler Manageress She accused my partner of being a 'troublemaker' who she had seen before? Funny that as she can't walk more than a few steps unaided and had never been in there before My daughter in law? A bad mother I'd rather get a carry out and drink in the gutter

Randomly after about 2-3 rounds of drinks someone decided it was time to cut a member of our party off and said he’d “had enough”loudly across the bar. Everyone was baffled as this person had actually drunk less than everyone else having joined our party late. We moved on and visited 2 other pubs that night and not one other pub refused this person alcohol funny enough. I also visited here earlier on in the year and they just close when they want to despite what the hours say online, really rude staff.

This is a welcoming and unpretentious pub on the High Street, with friendly staff, a nice garden, and a great mix of locals and tourists (families, friends, couples). It seems a great place for a drink or a chat, but we went for lunch at it was not good. The (mediocre and overpriced) pub food had hardly any flavour - the only difference between the cod, chicken burger (not a burger), and blue cheese burger was the level of grease and how chewable they were. Average chips and limited choice of draught beer (long weekend - many were sold out).

Quite a rough and ready boozer in Rochester High Street where there's to be high end/pricey wine bars or cheap pubs. This very nearly received just one star as they messed up our lunch order and we waited an hour and a half for ham, egg and a hunter's chicken but the lady in charge recovered the situation giving us a free round of drinks and a 50% discount on the meal. Unremarkable cask beer choice Timothy Taylor's and something from Bath Ales. The pub would benefit from a local beer, maybe from Nelson or Goachers?

We use this pub as a couple and as a family. The food is cooked fresh when you place your order. The meat pie is delicious as are the fish and chips. My husband said the burgers are one of the best he’s eaten. It is the only place in the High St that I will now eat a roast from, as other places no longer stand up. It’s hot, fresh and with homemade yorkshires. The chef takes pride in his cooking and you can tell that by the standard of the food. The garden is a sun trap. The pub and toilets are also immaculate. We as a couple and family both feel welcomed by all staff. The pub is also dog friendly and she is fussed over. I have witnessed the bar staff dealing with tricky, rude customers and despite receiving verbal abuse, have only conducted themselves professionally and politely, which makes them a credit to the pub. I highly recommend and have done so to friends and family.
