The Eagle and Child Inn in Flintshire

This has been the best home cooked food we’ve eaten out in a long time. I had the fish pie and my partner had the battered cod. Service was great, food even better. The Inn was cosy & friendly with a roaring fire. It’s worth a little drive out if you’re up north wales. Highly recommended. Thank you!

The Eagle & Child was recommended to us while we were holidaying nearby. We were gutted that we left visiting here until our last evening because it was amazing! The staff were very friendly. Drinks served quickly and food order taken quickly. The food is home cooked but we didn't have to wait too long for it to arrive. All members of our party enjoyed the meals we ordered and were gutted we were unable to fit in a pudding! We will definitely return next time we holiday in Wales. Thank you for such a lovely evening!

Really enjoyable Sunday lunch. Staff were lovely and really efficient with quick responses to our requests for additional items. Food was great and the burgers got great responses from our children. Beef roast was excellent and I’ve never had so much meat on a plate, the only slight negative was the said plate was too small for the amount of food. Excellent value and will definitely return soon.

This place was recommended to us on a Saturday . We booked for Sunday lunch. So glad we did we will recommend to all we know and will go again next time we are in the area .

We had a lovely roast lunch. One beef one nut roast. Plenty of veg and a lovely amount. Good price also.

The pub is very well decorated in the oldish style of a classic pub, it felt very welcoming and i have already set a return date! I would very much recommend this place for food.

A lovely cute pub in gwynesgor north wales, with lovely food and a great atmosphere, . All reasonably priced too, ive been going here for over twenty years and it still doesnt disappoint, i would advise booking during the busy periods but we got in , no problem, just take a seat and we'll come and take your order, madras was on the specials menu so i had that, i even had pudding and they were both lovely, well done everyone here, keep up the great work, I'll be back soon,..,.,...,.,,,

The lady with an attitude at the bar let's the pub down. The pub was very quiet, hardly anyone one in there but she told us to sit next to a table stacked with dirty plates by a smokers room so we asked if we could sit somewhere else, which seemed to really upset her, she was very rude, treated us very badly that we left without eating. Wouldn't ever go there again.

Went for Sunday roast which was excellent, good portion size and value. Returned for lunch a few days later, burger was great, fish finger sandwich and jacket potato were decent.

This is the second time visiting and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and portion sizes very generous. All the produce was fresh and we thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our meal. Would recommend booking as it gets extremely busy.

Disappointed to say the least. I had steak and Guinness pie ( apparently ) with rich red wine gravy ( apparently ). Tiny piece of pie as dry as a piece of blotting paper and very little seasoning if any. Frozen chips rock hard in the middle accompanied by crunchy cabbage, crunchy carrot and crunchy fine beans. I ate the pie and left the rest. Me and my partners food and drink came to just under £70, bloody horrible!! New member of staff was lovely, didn't complain as my partner would have gone mad at me, hence this review! What a shame.

You just cannot go wrong with the home made roast dishes on a Sunday. Very reasonable money wise. Would definitely recommend. Plenty of outside seating to relax with beautiful surroundings.

Best burger (Eagle Burger) I've had since I ate at Jack Tennant's Restaurant in North Bay Canada about 15-16 years ago. The photo doesn't do it justice. I very rarely leave 5 star reviews but this one is a no brainer.

A lovely meal in a beautiful old-style Inn. The hosts and their staff were both helpful and polite. An experience of old Wales and Welsh hospitality in a lovely location high on the mountain in the village of Gwaenysgor.

Not very friendly "staff we was with well behaved dog was goin done but told have sit outside ie cold no heater. Lol no not for me not recomend wouldn't mind if inside was well decorated it wasn't looked drab dreary there loss was in colwyn most evening dog friendly. Eating out..not recomend unless just finished work want pint other that.zero.ps need get rid dirty carpets.

Wonderful pub. Enjoyed lunch here with 5 adults and a three year old. Fabulous food, enormous portions. Only 10 mins from the coast road. We'll definitely visit again!

We really enjoyed a family dinner here celebrating my Mums 70th whilst holidaying near Prestatyn. The atmosphere was lovely, great table and easy access to the top level for dad in a powerchair. Food was exceptional! We enjoyed lamb shank, steak with peppercorn sauce, and vegetarian options among others. Separate Gluten free menu, which although the first choice wasn’t available the second choice was enjoyed! Child’s menu options were good too. The gardens were worth a visit in themselves! Never give a full house normally but I had to this time, pleasant surroundings beer well kept but the food was excellent and to top it off the landlady took the time for a quick chat unheard of these days. Can't recommend enough.

lovely gardens and great setting for a pub. what let's it down is it says dog friendly but not really. we knew before we went that dogs were not allowed inside but I really thing their missing a trick. the place is massive and would not take a genius to have a portion of ot dog friendly instead of expecting guests to have their meals outside or in a smoking shelter.

Visited here on sunday with my parents and children, me and my parents had roast dinners and the kids had burgers, the lamb and the gravy was to die for, exceptional! The kids really enjoyed their burgers and said the homemade coleslaw was delicious.. The food was very reasonably priced. The beer garden is like a hidden gem, absolutely gorgeous and very well kept.. The landlady and staff were very friendly and attentive, the young girl who took our order was very polite and through. I really wanted to try a dessert but was far too full!! Probably the best pub ive been in in a very long time, will definitely visit again when i am in the area *****

We booked for Sunday lunch One of us had the roast chicken dinner, which was delicious, there was plenty of meat with a good selection of veg and several choices of potatoes yorkshire pud and cranberry The other had vegetable lasagne , again very tasty We both had puddings equally very tasty Everything was fresh Service was quick, staff very friendly would recommend Worth booking on a Sunday

I was on holiday visiting long time friends . We called in here lovely atmosphere and friendly . Chatted to others in here my first time to North wales .my eldest daughter lives in South Wales as did my mother . I loved the North and this little place was so cosy and inviting

The roads to get there are a little difficult especially the hilly one which I personally would not do again so be warned!. However, the pub is just beautiful pub with outdoor and indoor seating. The outside areas are well maintained and glorious with a array of topiary and flowers. We opted to have the Sunday dinner which was delicious, filling and resonably priced. Will definitely be going again!

Garden is wonderful, staff all very pleasant and food was really good. We had lunch of fish goujan sandwich and a ham, pineapple and cheese rustic roll. Both served with salad, coleslaw and nachos. All was very fresh and well presented. Will definitely return

Excellent food and beer ...A lovely setting with nice views

We were staying locally for a week in a Shepherds Hut. We attended the pub for Sunday dinner, an evening meal and twice just for drinks. Fantastic Sunday dinner and a couple of hours in what has to be one of the best beer gardens we've ever seen. The burger and chips also is a fab option and a home made curry was good my wife said. The choices of ales were a bit dated in bottles (London Pride and Trooper are quite strong ABV) and the Greene King IPA isn't really great. More modern ales (Purple Moose, Polly's as an option) would really lift the bar offerings. The pinot was lovely though and the Guinness was well poured and looked/tasted great. Staff were young but well drilled and friendly. Sue was welcoming enough and her husband not seen other than in the garden doing a fab job! 😁

Came here with family. It was a busy Saturday night. Good and varied menu plus "specials" board. Home made steak and guiness pie was very tasty. Children loved their meals. Fish pie was also tasty. Veg was cooked well too. All in all a satisfied family.

From the get go you can see its a brilliant place staff friendly and welcoming. We had table of 9 and everything came out spot on can not fault anything well done guys 👏 👍ow and the price was cheap aswell 👌

Fantastic food. Eaten there twice in the last week. Burger exceptional and the fish and chips the same. Friendly staff, gorgeous gardens, quirky interior. Locals usually at the bar and land lady usually about.

Food was excellent and very well priced. Gluten free options were very good too. One minor detail is the condiments, salt and pepper are all in sachets. Would at least prefer salt and pepper in proper pots.

Absolutely amazing experience. I wish it was closer to home. Came here on the first night on holiday after a recommendation from one of the staff from the holiday camp. We only had mains but it was so nice we came back the night before we left to try other options on the menu. They were just a tasty. I have 3 boys and they ate everything that was on the plate. Thank you for your service. Hope to come back one day. And would also recommend to anyone to try here. Tou won't be disappointed 😊

Visited with a family friend, table booked for 1pm but arrived early, no problem shown to our allocated table which we could have changed if we so desired, drinks request taken upon entering and extensive menu handed to us, menus available via their website, food served i would say cooked to order, we only went for the main meal, neither of us wanted starters or desert, I had coffee whilst my partner had a smoke in the outside smoking area, toilets also used and in both instances very clean with full facilities. Car parking no problem although it was a midweek afternoon. All in all a first class restaurant worthy of another visit with the staff being attentive and efficient.

We would never have known this place existed had we not been taken there. Food was delicious, when it eventually came. Variety was good, gardens are lovely and staff were friendly. The top side of beef Sunday lunch is a must. We shall return.

A hidden gem. We had a beef buttie each from the lunch menu, it melted in our mouths. The beer garden is amazing. We will definitely return.

4 of us ate here on Saturday night - 1 burger, 2 mediterranean vegetable lasagnes, and a fish pie (from the specials board). I'd had the vegetable lasagne during a previous trip over 12 months ago and really enjoyed it. Fortunately it was exactly as I remembered - incredibly tasty! All meals were a great portion size and reasonably priced. The hot apple pie with custard and jaffa chocolate mountain cake are excellent dessert choices. Empty plates all round. All staff encountered were professional and polite and the garden is gorgeous.

i visted with partner and daughter tonight, the service was okay, the food was mediocre, i asked for vinillia ice cream with chocolate sauce and recived chocolate ice cream with sauce. no money off the bill. sorry but will not be returning.

I can honestly say and I don't want to but the food was abysmal and this also includes the soggy pudding.

Lovely country pub. Superb food, served nice & hot. There was a bit of a wait in-between courses which would be my only gripe as there were small children in our group.

This pub is in a beautiful setting, food , staff and everything about it was brilliant , there were seven of us for brunch everyone had something different but it all came out hot , fresh and delicious, thanks sue .

Service was slow ,could of done with more staff on.i had pie and mash ,the meat was fatty and grizzly and not much of it but the rest of meal was gorgeous ,husband had gammon ,plenty of it and lovely

the horsie in the image was not there when we visited. so utterly disappointed. i didn't bring luigi today because he is terrified of horsies and similar equine creatures. but on reflection i should have just sent an email asking for them to remove the horse for the day, not that it would have been needed >:( i really wanted a ride. the food and service was impeccable and the toilets, oh the toilets where gorgeous. nothing will ever compare to the toilets. of course i had to check out the ladies room too and they where similarly decorated, although they had a different flavour of hand soap.

We drove around the North Wales coastline trying to find a decent pub for lunch - so many have closed - and stumbled across the Eagle and Child after almost giving up ! It’s a lovely welcoming pub - and clearly popular on Saturday lunchtime. We were lucky that we had a few minutes to order before the kitchen closed at 2.30pm - and our food was served pretty quickly. The fish and chips was certainly tasty with a lovely crisp batter on the fish - if only our chip shop at home could master this ! Overall a very pleasant experience - and no reason why we wouldn’t visit again if we were passing and hungry in the future. Thank you !

Went today for Sunday lunch. Bit of a journey to get there by following Sat nav but we’ll worth it! The staff were very helpful and efficient, the food was amazing home made and delicious. Portions are enormous with so much meat we took lots home! We will definitely return thank you

We reserved a table for Sunday lunch and all 4 of us opted for the chicken dinner. The portion size was great and the sliced chicken was soft and juicy. There was mash, roast potatoes and new potatoes, homemade Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and cranberry, carrots, cabbage and green beans. My only criticism would be that there wasn’t enough gravy for my liking and it could have been a tad thicker. I do like my roasts swimming in gravy though!! It’s a lovely place however, the staff are friendly, the views are amazing and we will definitely return to try the other menu.

Very warm, friendly, homely pub! Tasty homely cooked food.

First of all we went due to the amount of people we know saying it was wonderful food and atmosphere, re the whole of the area, absolutely beautiful, relaxing and really quaint. However the food didn't taste as my wife expected it to, based on the hype, my wife had the beef and it was a bit bland, the veg and everything else spot on, she has had better at other places, I had the scampi, but in all honesty scampi is scampi and I did enjoy it so can't say it wasn't right, it was. Maybe it was a dodgy day for the chef, and truthfully, we will go back but more for the ambience and atmosphere. Try it by all means. I'm not asking for people not to go, after all 90% of the tables are reserved so maybe my wife and I have lost a bit of our tastebuds. Go and enjoy, I'd still recommend it.

Land of my father's is a grand Welsh saying. Unfortunately the land of my wife's father Gweansgor above Prestatyn is far from welcoming, or at least the local village pub is not the most welcoming place. Called in today having been to the churchyard to pay our respect to my wife's family who rest there The service and welcome were poor and the food average. Why can you not sit on a worn leather sofa to eat a sandwich, why is every table marked has reserved. Why when the pub has 60 covers and there are 10 people in do you have to move 3 times to eat your sandwich. Why do you allow vaping in eating areas. Sorry poor food, poor service, how I wish the saracens head was still open

I love this pub. Set in the middle of nowhere and a proper good old local pub. Me and my family have been going to the Eagle and Child for years and have never had a bad meal. Prices are very reasonable, quality is absolutely spot on and I highly recommend the Mega Eagle burger

Walked in and walked out. Weird atmosphere and NO dogs allowed.

This was the second time we stayed in the village, just a few yards from the pub. Really friendly place, great service and delicious food. Can get a bit busy on weekends so best to book ahead. Over a few days we had lunch, evening meals and a couple of cheeky pints. Recommended and will visit again.
