Called for Easter Sunday afternoon meal

Only stopped one night so didn't really use amenities to the full. Staff were very pleasant and full English breakfast was fantastic and all at a very competitive price.

Visited with friends had a lovely roast beef Sunday dinner, the red cabbage was beautiful and a delicious cheesecake for dessert! Service a little slow but it was busy! Would go again!!

Had probably the most tasty roast dinner here that I’ve ever had , everything was cooked to perfection! Not the biggest of portions but that suited me as hate being over faced with food ! The service was good , all our meals came in good time and together even though there were 8 of us . Will definitely be back !

The samford gate have lovely food me and my family went on boxing day for boxing day lunch oh my it was so nice and the waiters for so helpful also didnt wait long for the meal either and there was a lot of people in there aswell. Well done it was a amazing.

Last night 18 members of our car club attended the Stamford Gate Hotel for our Christmas Meal. A warm and friendly atmosphere was enjoyed by all. The service was great and nicely spaced out, the food was served quickly and was lovely and piping hot and clean plates were seen all round…..always a sign of good food!

So I arrived with my wife as a birthday treat at approx 12.30. We were welcomed in as we arrived even though we hadn’t booked a table. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink and my wife had a small glass of fizz to celebrate. When the menu arrived we thought not to have a starter as we were both wanting the roast dinner and if we had room a nice pud and coffee to finish off. When our food came it wasn’t what we were expecting. Most of the plate was full of red and green cabbage with only a couple of small roasties?? The meat was tasty but not much plated. Anyway we skipped ordering desert because the coffee machine wasn’t working and settled with a shell garage meal deal for the way home….overpriced if I’m honest and hate leaving hungry! £46 for a small roast and drink is disappointing.

Had a love meal for a family get together everyone said the meal was really nice but the room was freezing which needs looking at unless custom will not return

Went today for a roast dinner, very good food, would expect the potatoes to be more crispy, and ham to be a little less salty. The staff was very friendly! Would definitely recommend.

Visited on a fairly quiet Monday evening and was blown away by the whole experience. Quality food, lovely and relaxed atmosphere and quick and friendly service shone through at Stamford Gate. I would strongly recommend the steak pie and the banoffee sticky toffee pudding. I can’t recommend enough!

Went here for food with my family of four after having visited before. When meal came I questioned why the meal was so small and how this has never been the case before. I was then told how they now only serve the option of a small portion, for the same price, however the staff member serving us did not notify us of such. Staff were very unhelpful and when asked if I could please have some more, or just change to something else as the food ordered was poor (lasagne very dry and overcooked). I was informed I would be billed twice taking my order for lasagne to over £21. Needless to stay this spoilt the experience and I would not return again.

Celebrated an auntie's 90th birthday with buffet for 25 people in early October 2023. She had previously been for her 80th celebration dinner. Buffet was excellent, especially the very good sandwiches. The staff who arranged the details with us were efficient and very pleasant. The staff who looked after us on the day were very good too. Nothing too much trouble despite it being a very busy day for the restaurant. Lovely event for us.

Visited this place a few times as it’s one of the restaurants in our village - it’s really welcoming and the staff are fantastic. Food is great, menu could vary a bit more especially on Sundays as if you don’t fancy a roast the options seem to be limited to just a few other mains, but you have to appreciate the food is fresh which more than makes up for it. Desserts are always changing which is nice - the biscoff cheesecake was definitely a winner! Really recommend a visit and the booth tables are really comfy and nice.

The staff are so helpful and friendly, we can't thank them enough for the great service. We are not local and were pleasantly surprised by it. It was comfortable with great views. Although we didn't eat in the bar the food looked very nice. We were there for a party and the function rooms were great too.

Great morning service. The ladies were so nice. Breakfast was good and served how we requested. I wish i could say the rooms were nice too. The bathroom was rather dirty and grout was missing on the floor so the tiles moved around. The taps were loose and shower was rubbish. The rooms were NOT worth £110. Tea and coffee station was...odd. The sheets were clean though but bed was tiny. Would not stay again.

From the very start I was made to feel welcome, I met the owner he was really friendly and you can tell he is passionate about his business you can sit down and have a chat with him all the staff are very polite and helpful and make special arrangements to park my coach over night whilst staying in the hotel I will be back at some point outside of business with my partner for a holiday you guys are great! We popped in on the way home from the beach , not overly busy and sat outside , ordered drinks at the bar which never materialised until they came to take our order again but apologised, food ordered which came very quickly , I had fish n chips , with lovely homemade chunky tartare , nice chips and flaky fish but the fish had bones in , not just a random 1 but 5 or 6 which I don’t expect anywhere these days , mrs had scampi which was nice , young girls waiting on were friendly enough but we had no check back or asked for any feedback at the end by I assume the manager behind the bar , it’s lovely place but needs a kick up the bum to make it number 1 in Holywell

The Stamford is my mum's and I favourite restaurant! We have been here countless times and every time the food is just delicious! The beef Sunday dinner is my favourite, the beef is cooked perfectly. The pornstar cocktails they make is lush!! (Order two at a time, they go down fast) The staff and restaurant is such a warm, friendly place!

We recently had a funeral wake here and booked for 50 people when we arrived the manager said they had counted 80 guests and do we want to add the extra on, I didn’t think there was 80 people but we couldn’t not have food for everyone. The food was served by staff so everyone was not able to help themselves so small portions. And we asked for 20 tea and coffee in which they then told us we needed more and added another 20 onto the bill, a family member when she arrived later then had to pay for a tea when we’d already paid for 40 tea and coffee. Taking advantage when people were upset, as we’ve had the cards signed at the crematorium back and there was 45 cards. And some didn’t attend the wake after so there was no way 80 people if we only had 45 at the crematorium. Won’t be using this place again for anything.

Family birthday and overnight stay.Ordered the southern coated calamari for starters.Sadly it wasn't coated on the calamari but all over the bottom of the bowl and taste wise very hot more like chilli and over fried.Main was the large beefburgers which was just average.We stayed overnight in a twin bed room.The bathroom was dreadful and grubby .Grout missing out of the floor tiles.Tea bags in the room 1.I had to go out searching for tea.Poor room layout .The light above the dressing table /desk was too high to turn on myself.Breakfast.We had requested vegatarian sausage as a prior stay here meant my partner did without anything.Although sausages ordered in this time , my partner was unable to eat it as he could taste animal fat.Either from the sausages or hash browns or mushrooms all cooked in the same grease probably.Suffice to say he couldn't eat it.I found the breakfast greasy.No croissants or pastries at all no offer of further tea or coffee.We paid £105 per night which to be fair for that room and breakfast was shocking.Very poor .Don't be misled by the fancy front of the bar/restaurant.Family members besides ourselves stayed here too and were equally dissapointed.

I have enjoyed previous visits so much we booked to bring my daughter to celebrate her birthday. It took over 40 minutes for someone to take our order which is extremely slow. The food came and was average, lasagne was nice but hand cooked chips were soggy. The skin on fries we had on previous visit were much better. I had to go to ask if we could order deserts as staff were talking. After then ordering three deserts we were told that they didn’t have the desert choice for two people. We decided to call it a night and pay and leave . Sadly it has left me feeling disappointed as this was a special meal but I now won’t be coming back. If you have several hours to spend waiting then maybe take the risk.

Stayed for three nights over a weekend - two adults and a nine-year-old. This has been our only trip away during Covid, and so we approached it nervously. The hotel staff could not have done more to make us feel safe and comfortable. We very quickly settled in and had a fabulous weekend. We ate at the restaurant twice and every meal was beautiful - my wife particularly recommends the Cajun chicken Kiev. Breakfasts were lovely and the room was a good size and spotlessly clean.

Excellent food! Took my mum and dad here this evening for a belated birthday treat. The service was great, the waiting on staff fully protected but relaxed and the food was excellent. King Prawn and Chorizo in particular was divine! Good vegetarian options too... oriental tofu... veg moussaka. The bar area is a less formal setting than the restaurant. Visited here for the first time for an evening meal. Very warm welcome and at the moment fully covid compliant with lots of very obvious steps in place to make the restaurant safe which was very comforting and made me feel very secure. The place is nicely decorated with a modern feel and the menu is a very typical pub menu ie steaks, burgers, and pub classics. Quite a wide choice if a little heavy on the carb side for the starters. My partner and I shared the starter of hummous and olives and genuinely this single order could have comfortably been shared between 3-4 people. It arrived with 2 bread rolls and a pitta bread - all of which were warned through and fresh, then olives, houmous and dipping oil and balsamic. It was all totally delicious and well presented, but we were definitely feeling glad we were just sharing one starter it was so generous. Mains were steak, chips, mushrooms, onion rings , tomatoes and some leaves - and there is an option to have additional sauces (blue cheese etc) as desired for a small additional charge. This was also fresh, well cooked and presented and tasty. However - by the end of it we were totally full and unable to even contemplate dessert - which was a shame as I do like a lemon possett. So overall, this place is worth a visit - but its unlikely you will ever have the room for a three course meal, so think carefully about your menu choices!

Had a lovely meal at the Stamford gate . Food was piping hot and beautifully presented. Credit to chef stu and and his team. Service was efficient and staff were all pleasant with full emphasis on safety and adhering to Covid regulations. Very enjoyable.

I visited for the Sunday dinner. The roast beef was absolutely fantastic. The food and service were great. Especially in light of COVID-19. The staff were very good and made us feel safe throughout our visit. This is the best place in the area by miles. Keep up the good work and I’ll be back very soon.

Couldn’t fault the experience. We visited for lunch and were politely greeted at the door and given a choice of places to sit. At our table, we were attentively attended to throughout. We both had burgers which were very filling and cooked to perfection! On the eat out scheme the food an absolute bargain. We will be back!

I visited the restaurant with my family, taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme.Disasterous food: I ordered the sticky crispy beef, this should come with an oriental dip, stir fry vegetables and egg noodles.It arrived dry salty battered beef on dry noodles with a splash of salty soy sauce at the bottom of the bowl.0ne bite and had to find someone to send it back, explaining it was not what the menu described and was so salty I had to drink a pint of water.2 members of staff took the plate back and 15 minutes later an identical plate was returned (dry salty and not remotely sticky beef on dry noodles and a splash of sauce at the bottom of the bowl) only this time with the addition of a slice of pak choi. Once again I said there was no sauce and it was taken away again only to return with a covering of bbq sauce. The food was so salty it was inedible and by then I had drank so much water, and my family had finished eating I had gone past wanting the food.No apology was givenNo additional replacement was suggestedAnd yes I was expected to pay for this plate of salt!Poor service: my family were put on a table on our own in an annexe room and mostly forgotten about - the staff were always rushing away and didnt ask if we needed drinks or if everything was okay. We had to go into the other room to find help. Eventually someone came to ask if we wanted anything else as they needed the table (despite the delay due to food being sent back and replaced twice) - we asked for the bill which came quickly and we weren't told we had to pay at the bar so waited for a long time for someone to assist with the bill. We had wanted to query why we were expected to pay for the disastrously unsticky jerky and dry noodles.In summary poor service and awful food.

Our first visit since the refurbishment and wow what a fantastic job they've done. Decorated beautifully, comfy seating. Lovely atmosphere, nice temperature and music not too loud. We called in when passing so hadn't booked. Shown to a table by a lovely friendly waitress. Drinks came quickly and then we ordered. Asked a couple of questions about ingredients which were answered quickly and confidently. I chose the fish finger sandwich off the lighter choice menu and my husband chose the steak pie. Both meals were delicious. The pie took a while to come but the waitress had told us that it did take a while so we didn't mind at all. As it was a special occasion we had a pudding. Husband had the banoffee pie, he said it was lovely but the pastry base was a little thick. I had the lemon drizzle sponge and custard which was tasty and light and a perfect balance of flavours. Access - no steps to get into the restaurant and the toilets are on the same level. Toilets beautifully decorated and clean. Plenty of parking and disabled spaces near the door.

We went as a party of three on a Friday Evening and as we've eaten here before we knew we wouldn't be dissappointed. "Top Quality food with a Stamford Gate Twist of it's own Gastro style and presentation is "Guaranteed". As Del Boy would say "A La Carte My Son ...A La Carte".Excellent starters, I had the chicken Liver Pate with a Mini-Loaf which was spot on and as for our mains - Thick cut Sirloin cooked exactly as ordered and delicious Duck We were still talking about each our meals, that we enjoyed so much, as we walked/wheeled across the car park as we left. Popped in on the off chance with a friend, staff were welcoming very friendly and found us a table. The restaurant was busy but staff were efficient and the Sunday lunch was yummy. I had turkey and my friend had the pork both dishes were well presented,hot, with a good choice of veg. We were too full for desert. Great value too 28.40 for two roasts and 2 soft drinks. I managed to book a table for 5pm on New Years Eve for 5 of us which included my 4yr old grandson.We were seated at a spacious round table and were given the menus straight away. My son and daughter in law had starters and my hubby, grandson and myself shared the bread and oil dip which was plenty for the 3 of us.For mains i chose the lasagne and hubby had the fish and chips which we'd both had a few weeks earlier and it was scrumptious, we weren't disappointed this time either, my son chose the belly pork which he polished off in record time and my daughter in law chose the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection, lastly my grandson had the chicken pieces with chips and beans, which he thoroughly enjoyed and what was great was that he was served 1st, the number of places that serve children last is ridiculous.For dessert my son had the sticky toffee pudding which was scrumptious, we all had a taste, daughter in law had the chocolate tart, grandson had the chocolate brownie and I had the cheesecake, omg it was delightful, so light and creamy. Mm mmm.Definitely our new place to eat and i would recommend it to anyone. The service was spot on 10/10Also the interior decor is lovely and i love the colour scheme.
