The Dun Cow is a very old historic pub. There is a wide range of beers, lager and cider, including three hand pulled cask conditioned real ales which were in excellent condition when i visited. The staff are friendly and told me some of the history of the pub.

We came for Sunday lunch on 14/07 it was very quiet and only 2 tables were in the restaurant, we had 2 starters (halloumi cheese and chicken wings and they were lovely, no complaints there.) We then had our Sunday lunches to which we were very disappointed with, we had the chicken and pork dinners. The chicken was dry and no stuffing came with it and no crackling with the pork as both advertised, the veg was watery with only carrots, peas, tiny pieces of cauliflower and cabbage and there wasn’t much of it, definitely not enough to feed 2 people, we ordered extra Yorkshire puddings and my partner had stuffing and they were the same as on our plate not cooked properly and just dough, the Yorkshire puddings were like 3 inches of dough which neither of us ate. We did send the dinners back as we just couldn’t eat them, we told the lady we couldn’t eat the dinners and the chicken was dry, Yorkshire puddings weren’t cooked enough and the whole meal was just not nice, she asked if our starters were okay and we said yes they were good to which she replied “at least you liked something” which wasn’t the point, she then walked into the kitchen and said “they don’t like the food” to which I’m presuming was the chef, loud enough for us to hear. We finished our drinks and my partner went to pay, there was no communication between the restaurant staff and the bar staff as the lady on the bar has no idea we had complained so she had to go and speak to the other member of staff in the restaurant, when she came back she took off the chicken dinner and extra Yorkshire pudding, and my partner had questioned the other dinner and the reply was “we had only complained about the chicken dinner” which wasn’t true as we sent BOTH dinners back, my partner didn’t want to cause a scene so just paid for it, which he definitely shouldn’t of done, we have been here a few times and it has been great previously but unfortunately this time has completely put us off coming again and we shall be taking our money elsewhere next time.

My partner visited the Dun cow last Sunday not expecting to eat there but we noticed how many people were eating and decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed, to be really honest the plate lacked a tad of presentation finesse but the food was really good and plenty of it. The landlord is a bit grumpy but was obliging when asked could he put some sport on the TV we wanted to watch. The girls serving were very polite and helpful.

After hearing the hype of the Dun cow, I was sadly disappointed. Being fathers day, my partner felt it was the perfect opportunity for me to go and have some food there. With it being Sunday also, it was perfect day to get a roast Unfortunately to my disappointed it didnt meet my expectation. upon arriving, we was directed to our table by being pointed to from the entrance of the dining area. When booking the table my partner booked for 2 adults and 1 child, also saying our son was 1 year's old When we asked for a highchair, was told they didn't have any highchairs. Mythed to why this information wasn't given when making the booking, but we decided to carry on and make do with our sons pram. After failed attempts to get him to sit in the chair at the table. After this we asked for a kids menu, to then be told there wasn't one, and all that was done, is the mains were downsized to accommodate a child. Anyhow we placed our order and tbf all was going good. The starters were nice, and decently portioned. But the roasts weren't as pleasing as the starters. The beef was well done, and tbh at the start of the service, I was kinda expecting to see some pink, being cooked fresh. The roasties were hard, and held no fluffy texture. The Yorkshire puds didn't seem to be cooked on site, the gravy tho was lovely. Like don't get wrong the service was lovely, they came across friendly and polite. Just a shame about the mains and the lack to accommodate a family with a toddler. The pub itself held some lovely characteristics, and unique past features. I'm sure this would be a perfect venue for locals to come and drink and have a quick bite Just a shame my experience didn't meet my expectations

This is very much a locals pub, which is nice to find. When we arrived we were told we had a few mins to order as they stopped serving at 2.30. Not a problem but seemed like it might annoy the kitchen, so we were made to feel a bit bad. Other than that the staff were lovely and the gent that came with our food was super friendly. The food is good, solid, home cooked, traditional pub grub. Not the stuff of chain pubs, I'm talking 90s pub grub. And it's excellent. Really hit the spot on a miserable, rainy, freezing day. It was very cold in the pub and we sat in our scarves. I don't think the heating was on and the fires weren't lit. Normally I'd moan, but to be frank I do not begrudge a business owner being a bit stingy on heating these days. I'll go again and wear more layers, and continue to support a local.

We booked a table here as the website advertised Live Music after 9 pm on Fridays. We arrived at 7.30 to be informed, "we haven't had live music since covid'. The waitress arrived to take our order. Her pen didn't work, but she pretended to write down our order! Hilarious 😂 The starter was mushrooms. Well, it seemed to be one small mushroom cut into tiny pieces, full of grease. Yuk! The main course arrived. Two orders, one of them was wrong. The waitress excused this by saying, "well my pen didn't work". My steak was good to be fair. The whole place is lacking in atmosphere, it's lacklustre, clearly not cared for and in need of a good clean. The salt pot was rusty, the pepper pot was greasy, vinegar bottle covered in dust. Broken, dusty blinds at the window, boxes stored on the bar. Generally, just grotty. There are so many lovely places to eat in Shrewsbury, this is definitely NOT one of them.

Just been here, left promptly. My pint of San Miguel was off. I told the manager/landlord? it had an egg smell, and tasted foul. The landlord (or manager) poured half of it out, into another glass. He tasted it, said 'it's fine', then topped it up (from the other San Miguel tap), and then gave me the new mixed pint in the glass he'd drunk from!!!! He said, 'that's fine', despite me having asked for a different drink. The other half pint was left on the bar by the tap, and not poured out... and he was drinking and talking to his mates, who were playing some type of (gambling?) game. He rushed up when he saw me going up to the bar with my dodgy pint in the San Miguel glass. So he jumped in before I could speak to the barmaid who'd poured the drink. Why, unless he knew he had an off keg? Non locals beware, if there's a dodgy keg, you might get unlucky. I felt I was in a position I couldn't complain again, especially if he never even realised he'd served me the glass he'd drunk from. So poured it out in the garden.

We visited The Dun Cow last Sunday for a lunch for my Mother-in-Law’s 99th birthday . We all ordered Roasts. I had beef, husband had pork and M-in-L chose chicken. We didn’t have to wait long before our meals were brought out. Plenty of succulent meat, Roasties, boiled potatoes and gravy on each plate (Yorkshire Pudding for me) plus a large bowl of several different vegetables to help ourselves to. The meals were all hot, plentiful and tasty. We all enjoyed them and would recommend to anyone who enjoys a tasty Sunday lunch of excellent value. Unfortunately, towards the end of the meal my Mother-in-Law collapsed and was very unwell for quite a while necessitating a call for an ambulance. From the very beginning of this incident until we were able to leave after approx 90 mins, all of the staff and the Landlord were, without exception, kind, helpful and couldn’t do enough for us . They gave us privacy and were supportive, didn’t try to rush us at all. When for a meal recently with friends to this great historic local pub in Shrewsbury. Staff were very friendly and polite. Range of drinks on offer were good. The pub has a olde world atmosphere. Food selection has not changed in many a year. Don't get me wrong....its well cooked and presented. But the selection on the menu is very limited.....it needs a good looking at and the limited range of dessertsavailable too. Its not cheap.....hence a comprehesive menu change is required... We like to support our pub houses etc but this does need to done.

The service was awful, rude landlord who’s not help at all. Food was sub par. Won’t come back again ever.

Not having been here before we didn't know what to expect. My husband had the Hickory chicken, I had Jamaican Jerk Pork. Both meals were excellent and we couldn't believe the price. For the portion size and quality we would have expected to pay twice...

I have to be honest it is not a place we would revisit. Upon arrival the place looked amazing entered to no staff acknowledging us. We were left to find our own table. It took 20minutes for our first order of drink and 50minutes for food and no one else was eating. Baringin mind there was only a few people in for a pint. The staffing were terrible no idea what they were doing table service was saved by Charlie. The tikka was OK and the bread but rice no flavour, my partners burger was almost black with the smallest hard bun in the world. I'm sorry but its a no from us 😔

Good outdoor seating. We had to ask for the table to be cleaned so the chairs weren't sanitised either prior to our arrival. Food was OK.

Anyone reading this may have read an earlier post allegedly from me which was critical of the Dun Cow. This post was not by me and it would appear that my phone was hacked, so I want to warn everyone not to have your Bluetooth on when connected to free WiFi.

Parked up to answer a phone call and got a £60 fine. There is no reason for this, its not exactly a city centre location.
