Hickory's Shrewsbury in Shropshire

We went for my grandson's birthday which fell on Mother's Day. Thankfully we had booked well in advance and the restaurant was full. Despite how busy they were, the staff were excellent and the food was delicious and very nicely presented.

Absolutely loved it, food was amazing and the service was spot on (even if out order was a bit of a complicated one 🙈)

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner here last night! The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday, and the team went above and beyond to make it special. We were warmly welcomed with a birthday sign on our table, and later they surprised him by singing happy birthday and bringing out a complimentary dessert. My daughter and my nieces also had a fantastic time—they got to choose a movie to watch at the cinema, and the staff even treated them to free popcorn! Every little detail was thoughtful and added to the experience. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Thank you to the entire team for making our evening so memorable!

Booked at table here for lunch yesterday never been before and yep we both had a wow!! Moment the food was spot on!! The service was spot on!! The whole experience was spot on!! Well done to the managers and staff your doing stuff right obviously......with soooooooo many places to eat in Shrewsbury normally got the Armoury but wanted something a bit different really glad we did👍

I was looking for a place to have breakfast this morning and stumbled upon this lovely spot. The whole team was incredibly kind and attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed my brunch and the overall atmosphere of the place. I’ll definitely be coming back with friends or family!

Wad recommended this place. Drove an hour to get there. Was not disappointed. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, food brilliant. Yes it's a bit pricey but your getting great food so worth the extra money. Oh by the way, try one of their milkshakes.... bloody lovely

1st time we visited a hickory's and it definitely won't be the last. Service food and atmosphere were amazing. We booked a month in advance as we were travelling. They phoned the day before to make sure we were still going as they had a waiting list. Food and dessert were second to none. Kids menu was a really good choice.

Food was good although service was slow. Long gaps in between being served and then trying to get a waiters/waitress attention for the bill. There were a lot of staff present on shift but they weren’t very attentive. There was a mix up with the bill which took a while to be corrected. We had to speak to 4 different members of staff just to get someone’s attention.

Great friendly service, awesome menu and the meat is smoked to perfection. Definitely recommend a visit!

Great atmosphere, service was brilliant and had a mid week deal, a lot of food for less than £20!

Staff were wonderful and the food was so good.

Came on a Friday in the easter hols and sat outside in the covered area, but changed our minds and wanted to sit in the sun. Charles (red checkered shirt) was accommodating and friendly. The free popcorn was a nice treat and we both got the Oaklahoma Smash Burger, which was SO GOOD. The patties weren't too thick, the fries were crispy snd the coleslaw was creamy. Quick and friendly service! Nib nib

Fantastic food, fantastic service. We had the sharing platter which was more than enough for two of us. The staff are extremely friendly, and the atmosphere is just right. Will definitely be visiting again. Thank you guys.

Whoever your female outside server was on Saturday the 5th of April at 4:00pm, I suggest you get rid of her asap. She was unbelievably rude and arrogant towards all the customers outside. Walking around with a very sour face , when we went to order there was firstly no welcome and then as went onto placing our order we were made to feel stupid for asking for a different sauce. I work in hospitality myself and to me this isnt a big ask and certainly not something to get rude to a customer about. We continued our meal and as we got to the end politely asked that the service charge was removed as my partner didnt feel comfortable paying extra considering the poor service. Not to our suprise the server let out a huge huff and sucked her teeth at us as she removed the service charge, once my partner had paid she simply stormed off. We were pretty astonished to say the least & very disappointed as Hickorys is one of our favourite places to go to. I can all appreciate we have our off days but this was just unacceptable.

My wife choose as she wanted fajitas,I opted for beef brisket sub.... considering cost, and this place ain't cheap. My beef brisket, which came fully loaded....was pretty tasteless also seemed very sloppy....service was pretty good. Sat on balcony..... wouldn't bother again. Overall disappointing meal.

Nice spot near the river. Last couple of times we have been, the food was barely warm, not hot (that's why 4 star reveiw not 5). All the staff are more than helpful. Everything is spotless clean.

Love it! Great food, decent service and fair priced

This was our second visit to this Hickory's. It was a busy Saturday night. The food was excellent, we were celebrating two birthdays and the staff assisted brilliantly. We did have some issues with the bill, but it was sorted. Look forward to going again.

Myself and my boyfriend visited today for lunch and we couldn't fault it. Being pretty quiet midweek this can sometimes slow service in restaurants but every staff member was attentive and friendly, the food was delish as always (we have been to other locations) and general experience was great. We'll definitely be back!

The food was delicious, the portion sizes great. The service left a bit to be desired, pretty much was ignored and had to keep trying to find staff to take our order, bring the bill etc. Otherwise the rest was great.

Totally dismissed as soon as we walked in. We then left! Very unwelcoming and very disappointed. Oh well.

The key to perfection is consistency. Amazing place. Friendly helpfull. Evan sat at the bar ordering food they are helpful and nice. Go here everything I see my buddy and it's always been good. Hope to try there breakfast one day.

Good customer friendly service. Brisket was cooked perfectly, lovely meal , one concern , the lighting, the wall lighting is at eye level and needed to get the bulb taken out as it was affecting my eyes , waitress said most people complain about it.

An amazing find that is popular with the locals. We were lucky enough to get a last minute table for our party of 10 ppl. The staff were very welcoming and attentive even though it was busy, and there was a buzz about the place with people enjoying their meals with family and friends. The food was great and you definitely got value for money with the portion sizes leaving you feeling content but not over stuffed. The kitchen was clean, and the chefs kept churning out amazing dishes during our time there.

Where to start- can’t fault the food but the service- another story. We was seated quite quickly- no query about allergy’s- long wait for allergen menu. Then order… no drama there… Food arrives- can’t fault it. Then you wait, wait and wait. Part of our table was cleared- then the rest left, whilst a table for a large party was prepared. Finally cleared - asked for dessert menu- and then you wait and wait… and yes wait. In this time bathroom called- so head to the ladies- no toilet roll- I was ok as have a stash of tissues. I was asked by another lady- any loo roll- I apologised- sorry no. Member of staff washing hands- you think would sort- how about no…. Left and went straight back to serving 🤷‍♀️ Back to our wait…. We gave up and asked for the bill- extra charges for non GF stuff- I mean we asked for GF sharing platter- why should we pay extra?? Food was good but service was an absolute shambles 🤦‍♀️ Sometimes it’s in the details- and this place doesn’t have it

Absolutley blown away by the food staff and place

I have been here multiple times and thought it fair to review a very good establishment... Firstly the thing that makes this place good isn't what you think, (the food) although it's Excellent, it's the service, 99% of the time when you go out in the UK to eat, you get poor service and mediocre food, the staff training regime here obviously has American influence as all staff are attentive, do frequent check backs, good turnaround between courses, very polite without being overly nosey about "your day, and the reason you are here" although it is asked and a pleasant response is always returned. It's a nice touch and makes you feel you are not an inconvenience to staff, like most places in the UK. The food is always excellent but the base menu seems to steer you into boxes, subs, burgers, plate meals and then the smoked foods... I do feel that there should be a better sampler of items and although this is done through special events like the BBQ blowout (which is a must) the normal menu feels lacking or it's too expensive and too much food to have some side of brisket and X, or some ribs and Y.... I would always rather come on the event days as the choice to price point is far better but what they do, they do well.... Brisket is a standout, always excellent, they buttermilk chicken is also spot on.... I have had the juiciest ribs and also the dryest ribs here so take that as you will, but they aim and mostly deliver excellence every time. Grape soda is king albeit expensive for a fountain drink that's overfilled with ice, and the popcorn is a nice touch to get that appetite activated... The restaurant is well themed albeit a little loud at times... The volume of staff is ample which is a massive plus and you are not waiting around for ages to get someone's attention... If you like BBQ / southern USA, this is a great choice for that..

We visited this week and I am so pleased we did. We were met with a friendly smile and seated immediately in a nice booth The food was awesome. You know exactly what you are getting at one of these places and I was so happy with our meals. Tasty and simple. The waiters were really friendly and it was a nice visit. Definitely worth a visit

Dog friendly, great service. We ate in the bar which was really quirky. They even offered the dog some brisket! Food was really tasty and served promptly. Staff super friendly.

Managed to book a last minute table here for just two of us. The table booking time and an unfortunate delay with my taxi took us to the kitchen closing hours but the staff were great!! They knew it was my birthday and they held the kitchen open just enough time for us to get our orders in. The staff were so friendly and the food was amazing!! Meat was cooked to perfection and so soft. Will definitely come again if we’re ever back in town. Thank you to all xx

First time actually visiting a hickory’s, food was great but the service wasn’t good. Completely ignored after we were seated. Having to constantly try for eye contact/hand gestures. The little one didn’t order a meal at first, then wanted a burger so after getting the attention of a server, this was requested and realised after we paid and checked the bill, they charged us for a burger meal which is what we asked for and then it said “burger meal with fries” they only brought a burger out. I don’t usually write reviews but the overall experience bugged me. Only the manager in a black shirt gave good service, the rest just didn’t seem like they wanted to be there.

Excellent visit to Hickory’s Shrewsbury today for lunch! We had a table booked for 12:30 however, we arrived early and asked if it possible to be seated early. After a quick check the member of staff doing the meet and great showed us to our table. We were seated near to the children’s cinema room, handy as we have two. Now the highlight of our visit, it was not the food, though this was also excellent! The staff member who waited on our table (did not get her name) was outstanding. Attractive blonde waitress was incredibly polite, knowledgeable about the food and very helpful. I was torn between two dishes and attractive blonde waitress made a convincing case for on which was the Gumbo. Once the food arrived the level of service did not falter, regular check in’s were carried out but, we did not feel pestered at all, attractive blonde waitress even engaged with the kids about their meals. She cleared the table promptly and offered dessert menu’s which were declined as belt capacity was now an issue. As stated previously she food was excellent, we have no issues at all. My only criticism is that I would have liked to be able to give attractive blonde waitress a cash tip, as in my opinion she definitely deserved it. This said I gladly paid the bill and additional service charge of 7%. In summary excellent experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

I love the atmosphere in this place, real American deep South feel to it. Staff where lovely and the service while a little slow was good. But to be expected on a Saturday night. Some food was amazing some was a real, real let down. The corn on the cob was awful, like bitting down on a wet sponge. The brisket taco starter while tasted great wasn't served on a taco but on a tortilla. The biggest let down was the ribs ! If you go to an American BBQ restaurant you at least expect the ribs to be right. I started with the full rack of BBQ. They where so salty and sour I ate one rib and sent them back. I got them replaced with bourbon ribs, the sauce was edible but the actual ribs where awful, so tough and such little meat on the bones not worthy of £25. The coleslaw was boring, literally white cabbage and a few nigella seeds with some very wet sauce. Add some red cabbage, red onion, carrot......something to make it at least presentable. The fries where good...... The wife's beef brisket was really good. Just really upset the ribs where so unbelievably bad

I have no problem with him asking for ID but this should be done before the drink was served and without the need to embarrass the lad in front of the party and his girlfriend. Why he had to hold onto the back of my grandsons chair and lean over him while asking for ID? ...who knows?. I'm sure this will not be the first time that this jobs worth has tried to spoil someone's evening. The manageress did apologise for the upset caused.

this was my fifth time to Hickory’s but my first to the Shrewsbury location - and it did NOT disappoint. the food is just amazing - the best BBQ I’ve had outside the US, and the staff are so attentive. a coear 5⭐️s

First time eating @ Hickory’s, the menu was good and reasonably priced - I had the Mac & Cheese which was fab! Staff were polite and friendly though a ervice was a little slow - it was very busy and they did say they were short-staffed. Overall, a good place for food.

Delicious great tasting food. Not cheap, but worth paying more for the quality. Service was extremely good. Dog friendly. Only downside was when offered a slice of brisket for our dog, there is no indication of the £3.50 price per portion.

Our favourite place to eat Visited new years and had a brilliant night. As ever the service is superb, young lady who was our waitress is a credit to hospitality industry. Nothing was never too much and service was always with a smile. As for the food Texas brisket and the gumbo were served and exceeded our expectations. Top marks all round to every who works there for a fabulous evening.

Stunning place inside. The food was good, had the chicken basket to start with some corn chips and honey dip. Partner had double beef burger wity chips, and he said it was really good. I had the chicken burger, which was a little bit too salty for me, but that was my opinion. Also had the chocolate cake for pudding, which again is nothing special has you can get this in most restaurants. All in all, i probably would eat here again in the future if it was for a special occasion. Staff were friendly, especially the manager on the day who was chatty.

This was our first time to the Shrewsbury Hickory’s Smoke House. We were surprised at how big it was. I believe there is an upstate too. Incredible. The staff were very attentive and the food great. I recommend the half a chicken; it was huge! My dad also loved the complimentary birthday doughnut and cream for his birthday. Thank you such a nice touch. 🧁 We parked outside on the road for free after 6pm.

Had a fantastic dinner tonight! We got the sharing platter for 2 which was unreal. Very generous portions and all the meat was cooked perfectly. Really well priced and good food options, definitely something for everyone. Drinks were also really good, from the cocktails to the Sodas! The NFL was on and the big screen creates an amazing atmosphere. Will definitely be eating here again in the future

A bit of a disappointment. Venue is really nice as was the food but unfortunately we were sat upstairs, between two large groups, in the land that staff forgot. I’m not blaming the waitress as she had two large groups, one of which seemed a bit challenging, but took a long time to get served, plates cleared and pay the bill. We would have had starters and pudding but in the end we just had mains. Highly recommend you do NOT sit in the upstairs bit!!

The Hickory Smokehouse provided a great experience. Our server, Jonny, who came from Chester, was amazing—so kind, helpful, and attentive. The cozy fire and dim lighting added to the warm, inviting atmosphere. While the food was decent overall, the beef ribs were exceptional—tender and flavorful. Great service and a relaxing setting make it worth a visit!

Visited hickory’s Shrewsbury to celebrate grandson’s 14th birthday with friends & family. Excellent meal good quality food served hot without having to wait too long . Special mention to Charlie who served us and bar staff who helped grandson make his own milk shake behind the bar. Overall a great night

Had a mixed platter which was excellent, my daughter's enjoyed the ribs, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the environment was very pleasant. Just a heads-up that they charge a 7.5% tip jar fee, which you can ask to be removed if required but why would you when the food and service is this good? Can't wait to head back.

Great Christmas atmosphere, beautifully made food for all. 15 people catered for. Good service some of the time, but it was mega busy for New Years Day. Will deffo go again, just make sure I got enough money as is overpriced somewhat

Fantastic restaurant and very welcoming and friendly staff. We stumbled across this restaurant due to being let down by another restaurant moments earlier. We dined here for my son’s 18th birthday. Within minutes of my son ordering a cocktail, the bar tender acknowledged that it was his birthday and showed him how to make his own cocktail behind the bar for free. From being let down massively earlier this was just a magical and wonderful experience completely off the cuff, which made his day! Thank you!

Very authentic place and great quality food. We ordered a platter for two, and although it's seems expensive, we struggled to finish it! The appetizers were also very good. Bacon bites, fried pickles, kids corndog and cheese pretzel were superb, but the Mac and cheese was something else! They were also very attentive to one of our guests gluten free needs, double checking the intolerance chart with us. There's so much on the menu I want to try, so we'll definitely be back!

Lovely food and even had good vegetarian/vegan food despite being a smokehouse. The bbq ribs were delicious and came easily off the bone. The servers were incredibly friendly and service was very quick. Highly recommend!

I'm sorry to say I had a very disappointing experience at Hickory's Smokehouse. The waiter was slow to come to our table to ask for a drinks order, then slow to bring the drinks once ordered. Overall, the waiting team wasn't warm or particularly efficient. I asked what white wines there were - there was only one! For £10.21 for 250ml, I expected it to be a nice one, but it wasn't at all. The menu has an extensive choice. Food came quickly. I chose the salmon, which was very dry. One of my colleagues chose a chicken dish which was also very dry. I wouldn't recommend either. The food is expensive for what you get. The restaurant was full so the atmosphere was good, although I struggled to hear my colleagues at times as it was noisy. It is decorated very well for Christmas. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it or return.

A really relaxed place with great tasting food. The menu isn't overpriced, and the portion sizes are great.

The service is so poor that when you get served, you have been waiting so long.... Up to 20 minutes just to order a drink. The venue is excellent, and on a Sunday there is a great mixture of people eating and watching sport in the bar area, as the big screen is excellent. With such a big group of repeat customers week on week, it would be great to have a few more dedicated bar staff so that it isn't just the diners who get the slick service.

Terrible service. Booked a table, told us the table was "getting ready now", asked us to wait by the bar, forgot about us. Left and went somewhere else.

Great selection of smoked meats, worth a visit if you're in the area

The food was awful. Chicken was like something from Iceland. Ribs were smothered in salt and pepper after asking for plain. It's not a difficult request a rack of ribs with nothing on.

My daughter's favourite place to eat, so it was a no brainer to visit on her 16th. She loved it, thank you to the lovely staff 👍

Stodgy unhealthy food. This was a first while dining out. We were asked if we’d like to taste the Malbec as that was the only red wine option. We said yes and we’re then charged £2 for a swig. Not warned we would incur a cost. Only white option Sauvignon blanc. Unbelievable. They buy it in VATS apparently so the profit margin must be huge. Massive screen to our right while dining showing rugby, the light and noise emitted not great. Not really our thing, will most definitely not return.,

Me and my fiance had a Bird and beast and cheesy chips and a steak and onion rings food was amazing only second time of visiting and was an enjoyable experience all round

Visited Hickory’s recently to try their week day offers, ie Steak and Shake, Bottomless Wings and BBQ Blowout, the offers are amazing value and don’t lose the standard or quality you’d expect from the meal out, Most recent visit was for the BBQ blowout and the food was lovely, The Jalapeño and Cheese sausage was the highlight for me, When they couldn’t offer the Wing deal do to stock issues they invited us back on the house!!!!

Manager was very friendly, food came and was delicious.

Amazing food, great service, a bit noisy for me being Autistic however they were very accommodating and gave us a seat at the quieter end of the restaurant.

Food is incredible, lovely place to sit down for a meal, friendly staff. A bit pricey but worth the money. The only reason I give 4stars for service is because they add their tip to the bill automatically, and I think that is really cheeky. You can ask for it to be removed with "no awkwardness" but just because it says there's "no awkwardness", doesn't mean it's not awkward to tell your server to remove the tip. A tip shouldn't ever be automatically added to a bill. We aren't in America, the servers are paid a wage here. The tip should be a generous extra given at the discretion of the customer, not something that restaurants just decides you should give them. Remove that stupidness and the place is flawless

Great atmosphere and decoration, love the smokehouse feel with the fire pit and decor. As we have visited a few times the food is generally great. The fajitas are always lovely, highly recommend the milkshakes! The only fault would be the meat portion for the smokes are a little small for the price but tasted great! Overall, will definitely be back!

Friendly staff and very fun to talk to, we were greeted with free popcorn as we sat down. Vibrant atmosphere with a big selection of food in the menu, meat lovers will not be disappointed. Food came in big portions and we all left with a happy belly.

Family friendly kid friendly staff always helpful and lovely

Big wood floored room with chunky wooden furniture, warm lighting. There were few customers but there was still a friendly buzz in the place. The manager was really welcoming and asked us if we'd been before. (We hadn't) He told us why he loved working there and how they strive to be as authentic as they can. He recommended we order from the traditional " smokehouse " menu. We did and were very glad.I had a huge juicy half a smoked chicken in a hot and spicy sauce which came with a good helping of fries and pickle. My wife had the " smoked brisket sub" again with fries and a very tasty "Texas Gravy" She had a glass of the house red and I had one of the IPA's.Both were very agreeable. At the end of the meal we had a pleasant chat with our waitress. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we will definitely be back.
