Hickory's Shrewsbury in Shropshire

First time eating @ Hickory’s, the menu was good and reasonably priced - I had the Mac & Cheese which was fab! Staff were polite and friendly though a ervice was a little slow - it was very busy and they did say they were short-staffed. Overall, a good place for food.

Delicious great tasting food. Not cheap, but worth paying more for the quality. Service was extremely good. Dog friendly. Only downside was when offered a slice of brisket for our dog, there is no indication of the £3.50 price per portion.

Our favourite place to eat Visited new years and had a brilliant night. As ever the service is superb, young lady who was our waitress is a credit to hospitality industry. Nothing was never too much and service was always with a smile. As for the food Texas brisket and the gumbo were served and exceeded our expectations. Top marks all round to every who works there for a fabulous evening.

Stunning place inside. The food was good, had the chicken basket to start with some corn chips and honey dip. Partner had double beef burger wity chips, and he said it was really good. I had the chicken burger, which was a little bit too salty for me, but that was my opinion. Also had the chocolate cake for pudding, which again is nothing special has you can get this in most restaurants. All in all, i probably would eat here again in the future if it was for a special occasion. Staff were friendly, especially the manager on the day who was chatty.

This was our first time to the Shrewsbury Hickory’s Smoke House. We were surprised at how big it was. I believe there is an upstate too. Incredible. The staff were very attentive and the food great. I recommend the half a chicken; it was huge! My dad also loved the complimentary birthday doughnut and cream for his birthday. Thank you such a nice touch. 🧁 We parked outside on the road for free after 6pm.

Had a fantastic dinner tonight! We got the sharing platter for 2 which was unreal. Very generous portions and all the meat was cooked perfectly. Really well priced and good food options, definitely something for everyone. Drinks were also really good, from the cocktails to the Sodas! The NFL was on and the big screen creates an amazing atmosphere. Will definitely be eating here again in the future

A bit of a disappointment. Venue is really nice as was the food but unfortunately we were sat upstairs, between two large groups, in the land that staff forgot. I’m not blaming the waitress as she had two large groups, one of which seemed a bit challenging, but took a long time to get served, plates cleared and pay the bill. We would have had starters and pudding but in the end we just had mains. Highly recommend you do NOT sit in the upstairs bit!!

The Hickory Smokehouse provided a great experience. Our server, Jonny, who came from Chester, was amazing—so kind, helpful, and attentive. The cozy fire and dim lighting added to the warm, inviting atmosphere. While the food was decent overall, the beef ribs were exceptional—tender and flavorful. Great service and a relaxing setting make it worth a visit!

Visited hickory’s Shrewsbury to celebrate grandson’s 14th birthday with friends & family. Excellent meal good quality food served hot without having to wait too long . Special mention to Charlie who served us and bar staff who helped grandson make his own milk shake behind the bar. Overall a great night

Great Christmas atmosphere, beautifully made food for all. 15 people catered for. Good service some of the time, but it was mega busy for New Years Day. Will deffo go again, just make sure I got enough money as is overpriced somewhat

Had a mixed platter which was excellent, my daughter's enjoyed the ribs, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the environment was very pleasant. Just a heads-up that they charge a 7.5% tip jar fee, which you can ask to be removed if required but why would you when the food and service is this good? Can't wait to head back.

Very authentic place and great quality food. We ordered a platter for two, and although it's seems expensive, we struggled to finish it! The appetizers were also very good. Bacon bites, fried pickles, kids corndog and cheese pretzel were superb, but the Mac and cheese was something else! They were also very attentive to one of our guests gluten free needs, double checking the intolerance chart with us. There's so much on the menu I want to try, so we'll definitely be back!

Fantastic restaurant and very welcoming and friendly staff. We stumbled across this restaurant due to being let down by another restaurant moments earlier. We dined here for my son’s 18th birthday. Within minutes of my son ordering a cocktail, the bar tender acknowledged that it was his birthday and showed him how to make his own cocktail behind the bar for free. From being let down massively earlier this was just a magical and wonderful experience completely off the cuff, which made his day! Thank you!

Lovely food and even had good vegetarian/vegan food despite being a smokehouse. The bbq ribs were delicious and came easily off the bone. The servers were incredibly friendly and service was very quick. Highly recommend!

I'm sorry to say I had a very disappointing experience at Hickory's Smokehouse. The waiter was slow to come to our table to ask for a drinks order, then slow to bring the drinks once ordered. Overall, the waiting team wasn't warm or particularly efficient. I asked what white wines there were - there was only one! For £10.21 for 250ml, I expected it to be a nice one, but it wasn't at all. The menu has an extensive choice. Food came quickly. I chose the salmon, which was very dry. One of my colleagues chose a chicken dish which was also very dry. I wouldn't recommend either. The food is expensive for what you get. The restaurant was full so the atmosphere was good, although I struggled to hear my colleagues at times as it was noisy. It is decorated very well for Christmas. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it or return.

A really relaxed place with great tasting food. The menu isn't overpriced, and the portion sizes are great.

The service is so poor that when you get served, you have been waiting so long.... Up to 20 minutes just to order a drink. The venue is excellent, and on a Sunday there is a great mixture of people eating and watching sport in the bar area, as the big screen is excellent. With such a big group of repeat customers week on week, it would be great to have a few more dedicated bar staff so that it isn't just the diners who get the slick service.

Terrible service. Booked a table, told us the table was "getting ready now", asked us to wait by the bar, forgot about us. Left and went somewhere else.

We had the platter for two and two half pints. Food was delicious and the service was excellent!

Great selection of smoked meats, worth a visit if you're in the area

The food was awful. Chicken was like something from Iceland. Ribs were smothered in salt and pepper after asking for plain. It's not a difficult request a rack of ribs with nothing on.

My daughter's favourite place to eat, so it was a no brainer to visit on her 16th. She loved it, thank you to the lovely staff 👍

Stodgy unhealthy food. This was a first while dining out. We were asked if we’d like to taste the Malbec as that was the only red wine option. We said yes and we’re then charged £2 for a swig. Not warned we would incur a cost. Only white option Sauvignon blanc. Unbelievable. They buy it in VATS apparently so the profit margin must be huge. Massive screen to our right while dining showing rugby, the light and noise emitted not great. Not really our thing, will most definitely not return.,

Me and my fiance had a Bird and beast and cheesy chips and a steak and onion rings food was amazing only second time of visiting and was an enjoyable experience all round

Visited Hickory’s recently to try their week day offers, ie Steak and Shake, Bottomless Wings and BBQ Blowout, the offers are amazing value and don’t lose the standard or quality you’d expect from the meal out, Most recent visit was for the BBQ blowout and the food was lovely, The Jalapeño and Cheese sausage was the highlight for me, When they couldn’t offer the Wing deal do to stock issues they invited us back on the house!!!!

Can never complain with a hickory's great staff and amazing food, wish I could buy the buffalo sauce for the wings

Food is incredible, lovely place to sit down for a meal, friendly staff. A bit pricey but worth the money. The only reason I give 4stars for service is because they add their tip to the bill automatically, and I think that is really cheeky. You can ask for it to be removed with "no awkwardness" but just because it says there's "no awkwardness", doesn't mean it's not awkward to tell your server to remove the tip. A tip shouldn't ever be automatically added to a bill. We aren't in America, the servers are paid a wage here. The tip should be a generous extra given at the discretion of the customer, not something that restaurants just decides you should give them. Remove that stupidness and the place is flawless

Amazing food, great service, a bit noisy for me being Autistic however they were very accommodating and gave us a seat at the quieter end of the restaurant.

Great atmosphere and decoration, love the smokehouse feel with the fire pit and decor. As we have visited a few times the food is generally great. The fajitas are always lovely, highly recommend the milkshakes! The only fault would be the meat portion for the smokes are a little small for the price but tasted great! Overall, will definitely be back!

Friendly staff and very fun to talk to, we were greeted with free popcorn as we sat down. Vibrant atmosphere with a big selection of food in the menu, meat lovers will not be disappointed. Food came in big portions and we all left with a happy belly.

The manager was really welcoming and asked us if we'd been before. (We hadn't) He told us why he loved working there and how they strive to be as authentic as they can. He recommended we order from the traditional " smokehouse " menu. We did and were very glad.I had a huge juicy half a smoked chicken in a hot and spicy sauce which came with a good helping of fries and pickle. My wife had the " smoked brisket sub" again with fries and a very tasty "Texas Gravy" She had a glass of the house red and I had one of the IPA's.Both were very agreeable. At the end of the meal we had a pleasant chat with our waitress. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we will definitely be back.

Booked a table for 5 of us on line bit of an experience to book but got there in the end,food was really good,ribs were cooked to perfection,brisket was really tasty,and the sea bass. If in Shrewsbury again for a weekend will definitely go there for food.

Wonderful meal with lots of tasty food. Friendly staff and efficient service. Atmosphere was just right, music not too loud but not too quiet either. Would highly recommend this place if you're in Shrewsbury.

Three of us ate here on a Friday night. The food is tasty and portion sizes are large. There was a great singer performing and it was a nice place to have a drink after dinner as well.

A really good dog friendly place to enjoy a food with the family. We had a table outside due to being with our Labrador, but we were provided blankets and also heating working to keep us cozy. Very good to enjoy gluten free, they take this seriously with one member of the staff checking twice and confirming with my wife the ingredients of each dish we ordered GF.

Love this place, the food is gorgeous, very very tasty and cooked really well. Service was quick and polite too and as an added bonus you can take your doggies in as well. Would definitely recommend.

We visited Hickory’s Shrewsbury and had a superb birthday meal. We sat on the high chairs that run alongside the kitchen area, which was interesting to see everything going on. The food and drink were fantastic! We had the pulled pork corn chips to start, the brisket with cheesy chilli fries for main and the s’mores dessert, all of which were gorgeous!! We also love rootbeer so were thrilled that it is now on draft! Our waitress was excellent, very friendly and helpful. She also asked if it was a special occasion so when I said it was for a birthday, they came out later on with a board saying ‘happy birthday’ which had a doughnut with a sparkler candle in 🎇 and they sang it to him. This was a super lovely touch, it was a great experience and would definitely return!!

Excellent food everytime, tried the Beef Brisket for the first time recently and it's got to be my favourite meal of all time :P

Went for a date night with the wife all the time we were there a chef we believe to be called david was staring at my wife's chest. This made her feel completely uncomfortable. Will not be returning.

Well presented, but I found the food disappointingly bland. It was a very busy night, which may explain it, but overall a bit of a letdown.

Had lunch here on Monday 7th October 2024, lovely food, they even brought some slices of beef for our puppy, it’s dog friendly in the bar, which was a bonus for us.

Port Ribs came dry but were replaced with no questions, the replacement unfortunately was too salty and also returned... too bad. The rest was very good! Service by our waiter Charles was great !

The food was just perfect. The service was great. But……… two things be warned about. One. Big screen showing football (not what i was expecting in an ‘American restaurant’). Two. they add a service charge automatically, I would normally tip more so it was their loss.

I am not really into chain restaurants. But Shrewsbury doesn't have anywhere that sells this food genre that isn't... It's a bit pricey. But it's pretty good. I had Memphis ribs. They are very tender and I enjoyed them. My son had the burger. My friend had fried chicken and waffle. I will return.

We are a family of four with 2 under 4 and had a great experience. We booked last minute on our way home from a weekend away and we're served by Charles who did a great job, he was super friendly and interacted with the children. The food was great as to be expected from hickory's! The table was even laid with the kids activities for us based on our booking. Would 💯 recommend.

Fantastic place, food is amazing, staff are super friendly and efficient! We went on a busy Saturday evening and was served by Ellie outside, nothing was too much trouble and despite the staff being run off their feet the food was served quickly and was fresh and hot! You won’t find anywhere better than here!

Recommend booking in advance. Was busy at 2pm. I loved my cobb salad with chicken and bacon but if veggie it would be great salad on its own. Husband not so impressed with bird and beast burger. He wanted no cheese but flavour still off for him. Lovely setting. Would go again.

We sat in a small booth, far too small for our Smokehouse platter sharer. I was getting stuck in :-)’’ plate wobbling around on the edge of the table, when all of a sudden I heard an almighty crash & wondered what the hell had happened. My plate had crashed to the ground, along with my beautiful beef. No one came, I asked, they said they’d get it cleaned up, but they never, TUT, TUT, TUT. I asked a different girl, & she cleaned it up right away. It’s a busy place, so you’ll struggle to catch the eye of someone, although there’s plenty of staff & I’m sure they do their best. It’s expensive, but take a doggy bag home & you’ll have enough for the following day too. We enjoyed it, but I’m not keen on the tasteless mini ribs. What were those bones doing on the bottom of the hot plate? 🤔. We love the bottle of water, & popcorn, & the corn bread was a first for me 👍

Excellent slab ribs better than Stateside, interesting food and drink but very loud restaurant. Good attentive service, like the standard tip at 7.5 per cent.

It’s what you’d expect from a quality restaurant. Excellent food and service.

We were shown to our table and after waiting a short while, our server Erin introduced herself warmly and immediately apologised for the delay explaining that she was having to cover a larger than normal area, but reassured us that she would still make our Hickory’s experience an enjoyable one. Unfortunately later into our visit we overheard and watched as, I’m assuming a Manager (tall, male with a blue shirt possibly a Dave from what we overheard) in a very unprofessional manner scolding our server who was already trying her very best. It was obvious she was physically upset and for this to have taken place on the restaurant floor was totally unnecessary. I have experienced many bad meals at various food outlets due to poor service over the years and can recognise an efficient server who cares about her customers. This young girl was friendly, considerate and went above and beyond. She should have been praised not reduced to tears by someone who should have better management skills ! We loved the food and thought Erin was a credit to your restaurant, but what a shame the experience was tainted by this extreme unprofessionalism and damn right unkindness. Management, do better !

Oh dear, what have you done to the brisket? It has gone from a big lump of meat that falls apart to 5 thin slices! Not worth it now. Please change it back.

Amazing place and very well trained staff. Customer service is always spot on. There is a tip automatically added to the bill but this is optional if you wish not to tip, but the staff seem to realise this and want to earn it. It's like being in a real American restaurant but in the UK. Also, we are a family of 2 adults and 2 young children who absolutely love the cinema room you can sit in whilst waiting for your food. The staff will even call you when your food is ready. Perfect for keeping the kids quiet and still. And COMPLIMENTARY POPCORN & WATER. Win Win 👍

The food here was absolutely unbelievable. I've not wanted meat in my mouth again so desperately. The servers were top-notch and were a good laugh and very helpful with any questions. The cocktails were lovely and probably helped towards a great experience. For bbq/meat lovers, I'd highly recommend it. Get that meat inside you!

It was a midweek lunch time do want busy at all. Food was nice. Side order of fries £4.50, don’t see how that is justified. Otherwise everything was good.

Absolutely brilliant! Service was exceptional and timely. The food was divine. We had the smokehouse platter between two of us and I'd definitely recommend this for your first visit. It gives you a sample of many different offerings as the menu has too many yummy things to choose from. Everything was very tasty and interesting. I can't wait to go back I just wish there was one closer to where I live!

First time at Hickory's and it won't be the last. It was our wedding anniversary so we ordered the large platter and several cocktails were consumed! There was a glitch when I was booking and as I'm deaf I couldn't ring, so I emailed. It was sorted very quickly and efficiently. We were very impressed.

A very American eatery, drinks and food alike, so not the place for a traditional English pub. Uninteresting menu, not food for pleasure but just to fill your empty stomach.

What a great experience, the service was absolutely fantastic, it was our friends 30th and they made it such a great night for him. The service at the table was fantastic, very easy and fun to talk to, after our meal he offered a Bourbon Taster session for him with an amazing guy called Sam who gave us the ins and outs of each drink, what a great experience it was. This was going to be a 4-star review because the meat was a little dry, but the services was incredible, pushing it up, they guys really need some praise and a rise absolutely fantastic.

What an amazing place. Next to the river with outdoor seating & loads of seating indoors. Great menu unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. Staff were friendly, service was fast & a great cocktail menu available if you don't have to drive. Loved the complementary popcorn & you know a restaurant is going to be good when you have kitchen roll instead of napkins to clean up after eating all that lovely sticky sauce & syrup.

Thank you so much to all the staff for the wonderful 60th birthday meal we had for my mum yesterday. The food was delicious and the cinema room was a god send for my 2 young children! But what really made it fantastic was the waitresses, they were so attentive and helpful, while still giving you plenty space to enjoy your meal, and nothing was too much trouble! They were genuinely friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Hickories please look after them and keep them because this is what makes people repeating customers!

Food was ok asked for a table near open window we were told we couldn't sit there as they were only tables for four people ( no tables were reserved and upstairs where we were was empty) and we sat down a couple came in and were seated by the window then a single lady was also seated there, by this time we had been served our food and couldn't be bothered to move they then had the cheek to put the gratuity on the bill after we'd complained.
