We chose the Dunn Cow for a family celebration - 18 family and friends . The manager was so helpful in planning the detail in advance of our event. We received a very warm welcome on arrival - the conservatory was set up exactly as requested - , nothing was too much trouble to ensure we enjoyed our afternoon - the food was excellent - the service was exceptional . Thank you Dunn Cow team for making our celebration so special - outstanding.!

Never again !!! Wondered why we were the only people in the restaurant apart from 1 couple ..Menu came out on a clip board very limited main meals I think 6 choices in total it was written on lined paper in normal ink pen I thought it must of just been took over .Who ever cooked our food needs to go to cookery lessons we had burgers and parmos burgers were just say warm but tasteless when yr paying nearly 13 pound I expect proper cheese not a tasteless cheap plastic wrapped square cheese put on top there's was 3 small fried onions and a slice of streaked bacon on top ..parmos apparently where not very nice either..kids meal fish fingers where the cheapest fish fingers ever .. but home made chips where lovely. we had a choice of brownie or apple crumble for dessert we asked for apple crumble wish we never bothered they hadn't even tried to cook it, waitress looking like this was normal how they always serve it but this was not her fault . t was cold apples in a bowl with a sprinkle of uncooked crumble placed on top and served like that with warm custard on the side I said it should be cooked in oven they brought it back less than 10 mins later it was warmish but not appealing at all crumble was still raw we sent it back. as a member of our party went to the toilet they heard him cursing about us when later I mentioned this he said nope they never hmmm liar..if they cooked it properly in the first place there would of been no need to send it back I asked if he had just taken over he said no I asked if there was even a cook in kitchen he said yes ..wow unbelievable. On the other side outside area was nice for the kids 3 trampolines and a couple of swings I felt the man in charge was doing everything to save on staff he was taking orders he was in kitchen , serving drinks behind the bar ect and I no times are hard but.. if they had a proper chef/cook in kitchen and payed attention to the little things that makes yr meal .but we won't b back and yr probably saying thank God but hey ho.. iv been in catering and hospitality for 42 years never ever had made or seen a crumble like that and would never dream of sending it out to a customer ..never

Well where do I start? Car Park unkempt.Entrance , I could not touch the door as it had never been cleaned in a long time ,the main area was dirty, lack of attention to detail I.e light shades hanging down. Menu was a rather old sheet of paper well worn and dirty with prices changed and crossed out in biro... We ordered a cup of tea, pint of Guinness...Barman said, " I will put the kettle on " lol....tea arrive in a random large pot with a industrial size stainless steel milk jug...third filled with milk. While the actual milk bottle was left on the bar... We ordered chicken sandwich which came with chips... The chips were probably made the day before and had been thrown in warm oil as they were limp some were raw , chicken bits were dried out and obviously been re heated the bread bun was hard and tasted of garlic....seems they needed to use up the old garlic bread. In one word this pub is been run by people who have never had any formal training in a hospitality environment , totally un professional. The milk was left on our table for 45mins even though I requested he removed it as it was a large quantity and it would have gone back In The fridge. Breaking all hygiene rules in catering.

I have not been here for many years even though I live locally but will not visit again. To start at the beginning the menus are confusing, 3 of them; the main menu, the specials board and the two tier "2 courses for set price(s)". The set price menus list starters and mains (pudding can be added for extra £4.50) but staff not sure if you could have pudding instead starter for the same price. None of the menus listed what came with with the main "item" eg Classic Chicken Kiev but had to ask what came with it and was told "chips", it actually came with some salad which was already soggy with buttery sauce. I saw one exception to this - the scampi came with mushy peas. I ordered the baked salmon which apparently came with chips as well so I requested vegetables instead which were provided but it also came with salad (again soggy under the sauce). The salmon was tasty and well cooked but the Kiev was a bit dry as all the butter was on the outside not the inside. We had waited a good deal of time and just as I was about to ask we were told the electricity had been off in the kitchen and the food was being finished off now and would be another 10 or so minutes - the hot drinks were left off the bill to compensate but earlier notification of this would have been a better idea! In an adjoining room a baby shower was taking place - not a problem for me but small children were allowed by some attendees to be in the bar area (and literally) hanging off the front of the bar counter unsupervised and asking questions of the staff - at no point did the manager or staff address this. And finally, the ladies toilets must be breaking some hygiene/safety laws. Not very clean, empty paper towel dispenser but no hand drier, broken and cracked mirror with sharp edges up against a baby changing table(which itself was a old fashioned drop leaf dining table). The other cubicle had cracked/broken/loose tiles on the floor. Go if you must but you have been warned!

We visited today after hearing good things and it was the complete opposite. The place is really run down and dirty for a start, and secondly the food was terrible. We had Sunday lunch and it was firstly served freezing with burnt Yorkshire’s. We then sent it back and it come out just as cold, told the plates were scolding hot they weren’t at all, and second time they forgot Yorkshire’s, stuffing and crackling, with veg that was mushy and looked disgusting, no sauces were offered either. The male I assume “manager” come over with a half hearted apology and couldn’t get the plates off the table quick enough, we were trying to explain the issue and he wanted nothing to do with it just kept saying “well you clearly didn’t enjoy the food”. He made a sarky comment when he lifted the pork crackling saying “there it is” clearly not knowing we actually had to ask for that after the food was brought in which he said nothing. He was so abrupt and rude which is a clear trend reading the comments. We would never visit here again. Also the garden part at the back is so filthy and disgusting, dirty unsafe trampolines, a dirty bouncy castle just left on the ground and tyre swings which also don’t look safe, this place ought to be embarrassed.

Called in three days before Christmas. Lunchtime. The place was deserted. My wife and I were the only two in the bar. I had expected that so near to Christmas, the pub would have been busy. We were 'greeted' by a terse, frowning barman who asked if we wanted food. On replying that we had just called for a drink, he slammed the menus down on the bar. Impression being that he wasn't pleased. Ordered two drinks and a bag of crisps. The bar area was very cold. No evidence of any heating. The table we chose was sticky to the touch. Not good. The car wash in the car park was busier than the pub. Doesn't look great having a car wash business at the entrance to what was once a 'destination pub'. The area where the car wash is positioned was flooded with suds and water. Insufficient drainage maybe? Odd location for a car wash in my opinion but... We stayed around ten minutes. That was enough. We won't be going back any time soon.

Horrible! Went with a couple of friends for a drink. Probably 6-7 other people in, yet tables were messy and sticky, lack of cleanliness prevailed. Beer at best was average, but over-priced. Told they only serve food on Sunday!? Unwelcoming, and to top it out cars were being sprayed by the car wash they've set up in the car park! Water everywhere and no drains for it to run off, is it even licensed? A once nice local has gone to wrack and ruin. Terrible.

Booked a christening advised on booking number of guests, was told no problem you can have sun room going into garden with marquee After paying deposit I visited the venue to be told the marquee has since blown away and no longer available - if I hadn’t visited not sure I would have been told! Issue now being the garden room doesn’t seat the number of guests, therefore we were told additional tables and chairs would be provided and use of the bar seating - however on arriving on the morning of the christening no a additional seating/tables supplied and when queried with management ignored. Cost of the buffet to be provided was £8.50 a head, very expensive in comparison to other places and the food provided was not worth the amount we paid. We catered for 50 guests so spent £425 I would have expected more. Was also asked upon paying for buffet to pay in cash (tax evasion?) Upon booking due to price of buffet I was advised I could always bring a few of our own bits of food to add. Management stood watching us add to the table on the morning of the event and waited until guests arrived to make a scene advising we shouldn’t have added food this wasn’t allowed and needed to be moved. At this point I was stressed, upset, let down. I addressed management and was asked do you want this buffet serving or not?! Very unprofessional. The bouncy castle supplied is appalling, how they can allow children onto this in the state it is in is beyond me, absolutely filthy. If you have a special day planned please DO NOT BOOK and look elsewhere What could have been a much better day was tainted by poor hospitality and customer service

Horrible, just horrible! Dirty tables and not cleaned until we chased staff twice. Food? Watery veg, and the beef was very poor quality. Drinks okay but no more than that. It looks good from the outside but that's where it stops. Says a LOT when there were more cars for their ( very questionable) car wash than in the pub. How on earth do they get away with running a car wash that lets the water, solvents etc just lay in the car park and no drains?!?! It just looks scruffy and dirty. This used to be really nice 10-12 years back, now it's just yeeuck.

Went to the Dun Cow for the first time in 5 years to give it a go as a change from where we usually go and for aFamily birthday meal.On arrival, advised that due to a change in chef the menu was limited with only limited amounts of some items available (eg. one burger left) ..... Not a good start. Service was slow with starters being served - same starters very different portion sizes between delivered meals. Main meals served after another delay - no ciabatta so served Pitta Bread as an alternative. The “one burger” appeared that the bun had been deep frozen for a long period, defrosted and toasted as it disintegrated on picking up .... burger undercooked and generally not very nice. Other meals were “okay” but not a lot can go wrong with fish and chips / scampi and chips etc. Representations made regarding the burger and a free pudding offered (with main meal taken off the bill) so positive reparative customer service on that front.Ordered more drinks but advised no Diet Coke left, would normal coke be okay ... Asked for the bill - charged for some items from another table but rectified on representation. In all, having not been here for some time I would be hugely reticent in visiting again as £40.00 for fish and chips / Gammon and Chips and two potato skin starters (with a couple of drinks each), considering the issues was a little steep.I’m sure with the right chef, waiting staff and manager, this place could be fantastic as the environment itself of really lovely but if you are thinking of visiting I would advise that you call first to ensure availability and currency / ability of chef. It actually felt like issues with the main chef and someone “stood in”’hence the limited menu, variance in portion sizes, quality of service and other errors.

Just visited The Dun Cow tonight with my partner on our way back home from Newcastle & the difference from the previous owner is totally unbelievable! Called in on the off chance because we had seen it had new owners. My adobe to anyone reading this is to do exactly what we did & “Give It A Try”We both had The Sirloin “Surf & Turf” which came on a sizzling platter. A huge sirloin steak with 5 king prawns on top of it accompanied with a choice of sauces & of course chips or veg. My advice would be to get the garlic butter sauce & chips! Totally unbelievable value for £19.99! I’m a big lad with a big appetite and this was more than enough. We are now planning our next visit there as the ice cold Moretti we washed it down with was also very nice! The staff (Young Lad & Young Lass) who served us were very helpful & were very polite.Thank You to you both & Also to A Chef who clearly knows what he’s doing! Our food came and it was lovely - little legs chicken nuggets were made from scratch and the chips were lovey. Beardys meatballs were totally amazing and my calzone pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had! The base was to die for! Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Having visited the Dun Cow for several meals. The Sunday lunch is excellent with plenty of freshly cooked vegetables. Not sure about mushy peas served with a Sunday lunch though. Yorkshire puddings were homemade and very tasty. Plenty of tender beef and lovely gravy. Best to go hungry because portions are quite large. We had a couple of meals during the week. Husbands steak was lovely and tender with a dianne sauce. I had chicken souvlakia with Greek salad, tzatziki, pita and chips. The chicken was very tasty and moist. The salad was very fresh and tzatziki was lovely. The dining room has been re-furnished and is tastefully decorated. There are plans to re-furnish the conservatory at a later date. The bar gets very busy now especially on Friday and Saturday evening. There is also a quiz on Wednesday evening which is very popular.

At last the Dun Cow is open. The bar has been had a makeover and is very cosy. It now has a lovely atmosphere. Many people have returned since the publican has taken over. We’re looking forward to trying out the meals once the kitchen is up and running. There are plans to renovate the back room to make a restaurant. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

My wife decided we should go and try x steak from here and we were not dissapointed. We both had ribeye steaks which were beautiful and we had sticky toffee pudding and white chocolate cheescake to finish off. It was that good we went back today for our sunday lunch. Again it was beautiful, we sat in the sun garden afterwards enjoying the sun with a cool drink. Service was great from Tracey and the ogher staff.

I've been attending this pub over the past year every couple of weeks for a car club meet. At first it was OK and did nice food but since the landlord retired it has gone to the dogs. The seats are all broken and require you to sit on cushions so you don't fall through them, all the areas are dark and dingey and the carpets are torn and thread bare As Well as smelly. It would make a nice pub but it needs closing down and a full refurb!

Aunque esperábamos un asador la dirección había tenido serios problemas con nuevas instalaciones de cocina llegar tarde, así que tienes que tomar mi sombrero junto a ellos para que sirve un almuerzo muy agradable en el rostro de esta adversidad. We came here for the first time in several years and found it to be just as good as we remembered. This is a very traditional, atmospheric pub with a great feel and wonderfully friendly family service. The menu is very extensive, ranging from sandwiches to three course meals with something for everyone and they have a good collection of beers and real ale.We had the homemade moussaka, which was fantastic, and my wife had the sea bass on crushed potato and bacon with basil drizzle. She loves sea bass and proclaimed this one of the best ones she'd had anywhere. The quality and skill shone through in the intricate presentation. Superb! The cost was very reasonable and we look forward to coming back regularly. Great place.

We visited for a 'get out of the rain' lunch. The welcome was warm the food and service hot, and the beer was good. It was almost good. I'd probably go back, it is worth a second visit.

Called in on Sarurday lunchtime to receive a friendly welcome and informed which seat to use for most comfort. Good drinks and an extensive food menu. My wife and mother in law had the chicken Swiss which they both thoroughly enjoyed and said it was the best pub meal they had in ages. Myself and my father in law both had the cod and chips. The fish was big and nicely cooked. Will be going back to try other dishes on the menu. You have to allow time as everything is cooked to order.

A traditional pub setting with traditional good pub grub. We have had Sunday dinner there several times now and always left both full and satisfied. With a range of options for Sunday lunch and good sized portions you'll leave knowing you've had a good fill. There's the slightly more formal conservatory if you have a larger party or the more traditional pub setting for smaller/medium groups (you can even take your dogs with you in the pub side if you like). The staff are always friendly and welcoming in this privately family run pub.

The food is highly disappointing! Me and my boyfriend had a Sunday dinner , the food was freezing and the veg wasn't even cooked properly ! I couldn't even swallow my cabbage! The every day food during the week takes about 40 minutes before served! Poor pub for food , certainly wouldn't not recommend to anyone

We have been waiting to try this pub for some time after driving by so many times. However I really wish we had not bothered. Arrived about 12.40 and only 3 people inside and it was freezing. We ordered our drinks and food. Lovely gent behind the bar who lit the fire so we could get a bit of warmth. Food came and to be honest for nearly £10 for scampi and chips I thought it would of been a bit better. It was just your basic frozen scampi chucked in a deep fat fryer. Hubby had and fish and chips and it was overcooked with the fish being very dry. The gent asked us was everything ok and to be honest I just said yes as we were so cold and I wanted to get home. We sat the whole time with scarfs and coats on. I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back as I felt like we paid over the odds for a meal that we could of got else where for half the price at a better quality.

We had my mothers 60th birthday party here last night and it couldn't have been nicer. Conservatory was set out lovely before we arrived early to put balloons etc in. Buffet was fresh and hot items were actually served hot not as some parties at other places I have been, also served at exactly agreed time. We were allowed to play our own music which our kids loved and everybody had a fantastic time. Thanks again to Janice and Tracey for all your effort, fantastic party room and food enjoyed by all our friends and family!

This is a classic north country pub with stone walls, timbered ceilings and an open hearth fire. There is a small but constantly changing selection of real ales as well as the ubiquitous larger, stout an keg beers. The clients are very friendly, so no chance of being lonely here. Wednesday night is quiz night, a popular event. The food is traditional pub grub, done to a good standard and large portions, so no chance of you going hungry. Most nights have specials available.

We have visited this Pub to eat about 6 times over the last two years. Usually we have been happy with the food but not this time . We both had sandwiches and it is stated in the Pub that sandwiches are served in Artisan Bread baked on the premises. The bread we served was not fresh , maybe a day old. It was edible but not what was expected and certainly not as good as we have previously here. The meat in the sandwich was plentiful but tasted like it came out of a packet from a supermarket. The salad and chips were good . The sevice was friendly but slow.

We ate there prior to the Steve Hackett concert. We had pre booked the Brassiere. The food was excellent. But what made the experience so special were the incredible staff. I can't praise them highly enough. they were so polite, friendly, and attentive. I will definitely be back. The concert was brilliant as well.

While my daughter shopped I popped in here for an oat milk latte and was served by a woman who to be honest looked like she didn’t want to be there. I paid for my drink and waited patiently, the lady who was making the drink said it was ready. I politely asked if it was the oat milk latte and the woman who had taken my order barked at me that’s not what you ordered. I explained I ordered an oat latte and she snapped at me, that’s not what you asked for with a very stern look. I explained I don’t drink milk and I wouldn’t have asked for anything other than what I ordered. The lady then demanded another 60p from me which I proceeded to pay. I could see the woman who was making the drink was rather embarrassed and said it was ok to me. I won’t be returning here to be spoken too like that and she needs to learn some manner and put a smile on her face. Extremely disappointed .
