Great place Much improved Lovely new landlords Would never have gone here before due to it's reputation but heard it was refurbished and had clean beer and glasses and no longer full of unsociable types. A credit to Wokingham If they can get a menu going it will be the making of the place. Regardless, a good place for a drink and a game of pool now.

Massive improvement here. I've lived near here for 6 years and never once was brave enough to venture in since 2020. Thankfully the operator has managed to see sense and get a new couple in. The interior looks great, something different to other pubs which all seem to have the same paint and design supplier. Music playing, a good mixture playlist and not just the same old chart rubbish. Pool table is well kept, as is the beer. Whole place is clean and you can tell it's being run by someone with pride in their pub. No food yet but coming soon, sounds as if they've had a lot to contend with to get rid of the legacy of rot from before. I wish them well, really friendly couple who have a genuine warmth and sense of humour. Wokingham just got a new great pub.

Great to see the potential of this pub brought to life. Nice and fresh inside and sun trap seating outside. Has a local pub feel and the Guinness went down well. Some behind the scenes work was still in progress. A welcome addition to the list of pubs I consider to be quality in Wokingham, that's a list of four.

Held my son’s 21st birthday party here. Michael was extremely friendly and helpful, allowing us to decorate the pub with balloons and banners. It was a relaxed atmosphere with a great space to sit and socialise while others enjoyed the facilities including pool table and dart board. Would definitely recommend and will be returning in future.

We visited the Duke's Head as a starting point for a circular countryside walk we were planning around that end of Wokingham. We arrived very early (about 11am!) before the pub was properly open, but the landlord very kindly offered us hospitality and drinks. The pub is large and has a nice garden space, and felt welcoming and cosy. The landlord was very friendly and chatted with us - he mentioned that there's b & b accommodation available too, so we may well come back and take him up on this and explore a bit more of the town, which is full of character and interesting shops and buildings. We really enjoyed our visit, and it made a great start to our day and our impression of Wokingham as a whole. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Visited Saturday night. The music and the waitress behind the bar were the standouts for the evening. The pub, however, is in need of some serious TLC. Very run down looking giving a vibe of being dirty. I'd struggle to recommend this pub in its current state.

Best place to drink in Wokingham. Has a local feel and amazing bar staff. Everyone in there was great, apart from the guy who sat with us who tried groping my partner on 2 occasions, (once her crotch when i wasn't looking on the way out) I'll excuse him for being hammered as it was otherwise a great friendly place. Even the landlord gave us a lift back to the hotel after

Used this pub to hold a retirement function for one of my employees recently and everyone had a fantastic time. Buffet food was very good but what made it a great night was the hospitality and helpfulness of the staff and landlord. Very nice people, nothing was too much trouble and they certainly know how to be hospitable and welcoming. Would definitely use again.

Ok, no frills, cheap Sunday roast. Not the best - Yorkshires were pre-bought which was disappointing and think the meat is pre-cooked and warmed up. Beef was a bit tough in places, tonnes of gravy though and they made the effort with vegetarian gravy for my partner, who said the veg roast was good. Didn't strike me as the best pub layout for eating. Wouldn't have liked to be there when the football was on - would've been crowded.

Came on a groupon deal, at £11 for 2 x 2 courses did not have high expectations. The pub itself is a little tired looking but the staff friendly. The roast itself was real home cooking, good portions, proper roast potatoes, lashings of gravy. The desserts shop bought but again something you'd expect at home. Tasty and for those prices an absolute bargain.

Cannot recommend eating here if you are a coeliac. Even calling weeks before hand didn't help. The attitude on the evening was awful and disrespectful. The set menu - Prawn cocktail with Bread (which was on the plate) I was told just to not eat the bread! The Turkey and all the trimmings (which were on the plate), when questioned I was told "oh yes, don't eat the Yorkshire pudding, and the sausage is a vegetarian so is probably okay!" Christmas pudding which was served to me, I was told isn't suitable but there is no alternative. I think the chef and staff need educating on the seriousness of Coeliac disease. Christmas celebrations should be fun and relaxed. Not awkward and embarrassing!

I celebrated my 50th birthday at The Dukes Head last Friday. Adrian was very friendly and helpful from the moment I enquired. I'd previously enjoyed a friend's 40th birthday do there, which is why I chose it. I had about 30 friends in the rear bar area. Adrian provided a high quality buffet which was great value for money. There was more than enough for everyone- a good selection of cold meats, freshly made sandwiches, fresh salads, coleslaw, olives etc as well as hot quiches, pies, sausage rolls, Indian and Chinese snacks. On top of that were 2 huge platters of roasted new potatoes and chicken wings. Im sorry I didnt take any photos. All my guests were very impressed and complimentary about the food. Highly recommended!

We know Adrian of old, and it was good to catch up. The Dukes’s Head is a good, local pub with comfortable rooms and a group of welcoming regulars, loyal to what Adrian and Julie do. The terrace at the side of the pub is really nice: your landlord has green fingers and it is a lovely place to sit. Adrian and the staff put on great food; his pulled lamb kebabs are brilliant. In response to the negatives on here, Wokingham is a going through redevelopment and it isn’t helping the guys at the Duke’s. With some of the town centre out of action, people are taking liberties. As for slow meet and greet, it’s not a chain pub: give them a ring and you’ll get a booking, a warm welcome and really good food. Thank you to the staff at Duke’s.

We visited The Dukes Head today as we had a Groupon Voucher for a two course roast dinner with a glass of Prosecco. The food was absolutely superb and the service was great too. I had the roast beef and my wife had the roast turkey - both with all the trimmings and vegetables. We could also have chosen a starter or a pudding as part of the deal, so we both went for puddings - Bakewell Tart with Cream and Apple Pie with Custard - once again - both super. We saw the pate starter, and couldn't believe how large it was and it looked great all laid out on a wooden board. The pub itself, has character and is located in the centre of Wokingham which is a lovely town, or will be again once all the town centre/road works are complete! Overall we would recommend this lovely pub for a drink and a meal.

I experienced an awful interaction with the landlord of this pub. As I parked in the car park I was met with verbal abuse from the landlord who shouted at me across the car park that I could not park there. Once it was established that I was a customer and using the pub (to have lunch with a friend) he continued to be rude and aggressive and told me the car park is not for the pub but only for the accommodation. Despite there being a large sign stating the car park is for dining and bar he rudely told me not to park in the car park and to use another car park. Other men (I am assuming who work at the pub or are friends with the landlord) in the car park were heckling at this point too. They made me feel very upset and vulnerable. I did not expect to be at the end of verbal abuse when visiting this pub for lunch. I moved my car out of fright and fortunately visited another pub up the road. The worst customer service I have ever experienced! Very rude and obnoxious landlord. I called up the pub immediately after to explain what had happened and received no apology and had the phone put down on me. This clearly shows the type of people who work here. I would describe them as very unprofessional at the least. Do not go here. I have instead visited a pub down the road and had a lovely fish and chips with expected friendly service!

We went to a friends birthday party in the back room of this pub.The drinks were OK but the way the pub laid the room out wasn't good. Regular customers were coming through from the bar to go to the toilet - a constant procession. The food table was laid out next to the toilets. The way the tables were positioned it was virtually impossible to get to the food. The pitta bread were put on the table in a waste paper bin. Then the pub staff decided to open the back door into the car park - so I was standing in like a wind tunnel. Gave up and went home

Visited the Dukes Head with a Groupon voucher for Sunday lunch. Was initially put off by the surroundings: the pub is in the centre of Wokingham, and decor could do with an extensive refurb. But couldn't have had a better lunch for a ridiculously low cost ... Brakspears bitter is always a plus for me, but the home-made soup (tomato and courgette, with onions and a dash of Worcester sauce) was excellent, a meal in itself, the beef roast was rare and tender, and the plum and fig compote I had for dessert was excellent. No muzak meant we could hear ourselves talk. Compliments to the team for making us feel like we'd dropped in for a meal with the family.

The landlady was very lovely, I asked for a different table closer by the door (as it was a warm day) without hesitation we were moved and I felt at ease completely. We felt like part of the furniture - so to speak as we made to feel so welcome. The Sunday lunch was brought to us quickly and the quality of the food was wonderful, we decided to have the fudge cake for dessert - I have had fudge cake in 5 star restaurants before now and it did not taste as great as what we were given. Feeling completely satisfied we were able to relax and speak without feeling like we had to leave. Fab food, lovely landlady :)

We visited this evening and we're greeted with a table in the bar area! Right next to all the loud locals having a pint. My sister had been in touch and pre booked with the manageres and was promised a table with a fire. The manager was very quick to move a lunchtime party for us so we could have our table. We ordered drinks and sat down at the table. There was one menu scrolled up on a piece of a4 paper in a half pint glass on the table between 6 of us. We did eventually get given other paper menus to order. We had 3 soups and 3 prawn cocktails. All were OK but nothing special. Personally the amount of butter per half slice of bread was overkill on the prawn cocktail. The mains arrived shortly after and looked good. The turkey was not from a real bird, and the stuffing was sliced perfectly, suggesting it too was not 'just made'. Probably microwaved. As we had a Groupon deal I must stress we only paid about £9.50 per head for this meal. So value for money not bad. I brought a second round of drinks which was almost double the price of the first round... I questioned this and was told I ordered more drinks the 2nd time round and had large glasses of wine. (I can't remember asking for larges) I must say at this point that the first round was 6 drinks as was the second. Apparently the first round was undercharged but the second round was correct. £6 for a large glass of wine in some street side pub is almost London prices I don't expect to pay in Wokingham. At the end of the evening I questioned the drinks again with the manager and he was quite rude towards me. I pointed out that for the sake of three medium to large glasses of wine the difference was £15, was surely a mistake and he just said, it was correct. They discounted my bill from £30 to about £27. That was my lot. I paid, and we left!. Overall I feel we had some good and bad luck in this place tonight. The food was good, the service was great, but the bad points were the attitude of staff towards our queries and also the price of drinks are extortionate for the facility. Please please think before eating at this place. Great for a pint but certainly won't be retuning again soon.

This pub was empty other than about five couples all with Groupon Vouchers that arrived as we dined. For some reason we were seated in one section of the pub bar, while the others ate in the main dining room, even though we were the first to arrive. The bar had about three locals and that was it. Admittedly it was early but few of the other dining tables were set so I can't see there were many others expected. The menu was presented on a piece of paper with items crossed out and others hand written, although the waitress did apologise for this. We were only given one copy between two. The offer meant you could upgrade from two courses to three for £2. Perhaps this should have been an indication of the quality. The prawn cocktail was child's sized, the asparagus oily and tasteless. The mains were ok but so bland you really couldn't tell what you were eating. Sadly it was ruined by being served swimming in watery gravy. One floret of cauliflower cheese, two potatoes and a few carrots had no seasoning and no effort was made with presentation. . I finished my main before my companion and my plate was removed while she was still eating - very poor service. The sticky toffee cheesecake was ok (shop bought) but the ice cream was cheap and again flavourless. My friend also had a Groupon voucher but has decided not to go back. The pub was grubby and sticky. All the tables had empty wine bottles on them with stagnant water and a dead flower stem -smelly and unpleasant. The table next to ours had no edge to it - ideal for splinters and cuts. Our table was next to a low wall - paint peeling off and again very sticky. The whole lunch was sad, tired and in need of great improvement. I doubt the Groupon voucher will tempt people back for a second visit which is sad as this could be a nice family pub. Please think about going some where else until there is a full refurbishment and possibly a new chef!

The disaster started as soon as we arrived. No-one behind the bar. When the lady did turn up, I said we had a table for 4 people booked. As she went to her bookings book, a lady she knew at the bar was wanting some drinks, so she served her and ignored us!!! Not a good start. We eventually were shown to a table that was dirty, not wiped clean, with nothing on it. Obviously not set for 4 people who had booked the table. We ordered the food. No condiments on the table - we had to ask for sale and pepper. Two dinners arrived with no knives and forks. So we waited, and although we asked, nothing came. Eventually, the other two dinners arrived - again no knives and forks, so we had to ask once again. The dinner was disgusting. The so called Yorkshire pudding was like an overbaked chocolate biscuit. It had obviously been overcooked in the microwave. The vegetables were so small, we had to look for thm. We only had one slice of meat. We had to ask for apple sauce. Nothing was forthcoming unless you asked for it. The bar was littered - absolutely no space - full of dirty glasses. They must get their act together - both with the food and non-service if they want this business to work. We will certainly not go back, and we will tell our friends not to go there.

My wife and I saw an advert on our local community group saying this establishment was doing very good fish and chips for take away. On the group site people were saying this cost £7:50 each for fish&chips but you had to order in advance. My wife wife placed an order and on the other end of the phone it sounded like an old lady taking the order, she was very abrupt and wasn’t listening to what was being asked and just kept talking over what my wife was trying to ask. Anyway we eventually placed our order. When we arrived to pick it up my wife went into the side entrance and went to pay, the old lady was quite rude and said it was £8:50 each, when my wife said that on the local page it everyone was saying £7:50. She just brushed it off and said she didn’t know about that, my wife only had £15 in cash and as we had only ordered for 2 this is all she had. There were dogs running around the area as well not very hygienic. The price appears to change depending on who you are as my wife went back to the local group and the members are still saying they pay £7:50. First and last time using this pub takeaway the fish and chips were a small portion for the price.

We went for Sunday lunch because it was recommended. On arrival we were told that the roast had rosemary on the potatoes, vegetables and possibly the gravy, this was not mentioned on the menu. My friend cannot eat rosemary, she had fish and chips which she did not enjoy. I didn’t have beef because rump is not a roasting joint, I suspect that the beef was not cooked on site, from what I saw someone else eating. I had the pork belly. I have had this elsewhere and I cook it so I know that it can be tender. The belly was two thirds fat, the meat was pink at one end, I did not eat any of the meat. The cost for one lump of very fatty belly was extortionate. The ‘roast’ potatoes were oily externally and internally. I ate them because I was hungry, I had indigestion for 24 hours. The root vegetables were uninteresting with a lump of various greens at the the bottom of a small pot. Much better to have fewer vegetables and better presented. The manager was very considerate and wanted to hear my views. He did not charge us for the meal,, although I offered to pay. The Yorkshire pudding was huge, crispy, and cold. I will not return for a roast. The staff were very good. The room became cold because the fire went out, that was quickly relit by a member of staff.
