The Duke of York in Lichfield

Local pork pie and fresh cobs food wise. A propper British pub that deserves to be cherished and supported. Lovly beer garden.

I was pleasantly surprised. It's a lot different from how I remember it.

We dropped in for a drink yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. We had a pint of Green Monkey and a medium glass of French Chardonnay for under a tenner. The beer garden is large but retains a great vibe. The Chardonnay was cracking. Not the usual disappointing plonk. We will definitely visit again.

Great ales and nice atmosphere.

A very straightforward pub. Joule's beer isn't for everyone, but there are always guest beers to try. And free sausage rolls from 6 pm on Sundays.

I have just 2-3 definite GO-TO pubs in Lichfield if doing early doors with friends - this is right up there! Great staff always good service from whichever bar you served. Saturday afternoons are always a great atmosphere! Very handy if like me you use the bus as station few mins walk away.

Lovely beer garden, nice service

Lovely old boozer, the oldest in Lichfield apparently. It's a Joules Brewery pub, and they typically get it right. Fab pork pies and sausage rolls from the bar. Oh yeah....great beer garden too.

This is a nice friendly pub with a giant beer garden. I’d not come across Joule’s Brewery before, but I had one of their beers and it was very pleasant. The pub itself is meant to be the oldest in Lichfield. It was busy when we were there but because of its size, inside and out, there was no problem finding somewhere to sit. A good pub overall, with reasonable range of cask real ales.

Really nice pub with some fun live music. A good though slightly limited selection of beer however the staff here are all very friendly. Overall, its an amazing pub and a must go location if you are in the area.

A large pub with lots of different areas to sit and a large beer garden. Service was quick, good atmosphere on a busy Saturday night.

This lovely historical pub has always been a great place, but with the renovations and the fantastic beer garden its still a lovely place and the live music on a Sunday is fantastic.!

Great boozer. Could do with a bit more staff and a few staff members could do with a lot more hustle when there is a queue out the door but overall, great place to spend a sunny afternoon.

A very comfortable pub and especially the outdoor terrace was welcoming on a beautiful sunny spring afternoon. We came to the restaurant to eat, but they only offered snack type "pie", etc., and there was a food truck in the patio that did offer good food, but we ended up changing locations to eat somewhere else. The lack of cider on tap was also a bit disappointing as there was only Or a cider on tap.

Worst pint I’ve had, tastes so stale. The beer had a mountain of froth on top, if I wanted an ice cream I would have went down the road for one… hardly anything on tap, carling at best beer wise. Outside is nice but inside old aged. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re popping in for a beer or 2.

The Duke has a great selection of ales lagers gins and other spirits. Real fire and a dart board. Their pork pies are to die for....do you need any more reasons to spend an afternoon or evening there?

Great little adult only pub. Cobs very very tasty. Staff wonderful. Selection of ales good. Prices good especially as being in the city.

Good beers and atmosphere on a saturday night

When I bus it into Lich Vegas for an early doors with friends this is always a must port of call. Staff always efficient and friendly. Great layout inside but we always prefer a beer alfresco on the nice outdoor area. Easy walk to bus station or train station. New pubs and bars always popping up in Lich but you can't beat the old ones!

Aside from the occasional Wetherspoons-type place, I'm not really a pub-goer, but came to the Duke of York this week for drinks with colleagues for a catch-up and a celebration. It was a lovely couple of hours with good company in a very pleasant venue. For teetotalers like myself, there's plenty of non-alc options including hot drinks, and there's a range of bar snacks to pick from if you're peckish. The staff were polite and friendly, prices were reasonable, and the empties collection was regular. The back section was reserved for a poets' group so the Duke are open to hosting clubs and events too. There can be a bit of an exclusionary atmosphere in traditional pubs sometimes especially if you don't drink or you're 'not one of the locals', but not so at the Duke, it was very welcoming and cosy. There's plenty of parking in Lichfield, but there's a big Tesco's car park round the back of the Duke and a pay-and-display 5 minutes' walk away by the Chinese restaurant. While the pub welcomes dogs, they can't allow under-18s due to licensing laws, so definitely one to keep for work nights out or adult gatherings. There's many a drinking establishment in Lichfield, but if you're after that old-pub vibe, this is the place to be.

Love all of the joules pubs! Especially the ones that have decent management! The Duke of York, has a lovely outdoor area, plenty of space beautiful on the summer evenings when they are hosting entertainment! Joules have a lovely selection of beers and ales, my favourite being a joules Blonde! This pub in particular has super friendly and efficient staff, a warm pub atmosphere with a pleasant clientele, but I particularly appreciate their immense snack selection! Great place always on the agenda when in in town! Can’t credit this place and the running of it though. Keep on doing what your doing guys 👌🏽

Met up with friends for a few drinks here. Staff were pleasant. Pub nice and had a good atmosphere. Noticed that they also served food which looked good, so might have to try that another time.

I play darts here on a Sunday and it's always warm and welcoming, owners are great, staff helpful and atmosphere brilliant... Always live music on a Sunday when I'm there too 👍

Visited with the wife and friends for the first time. Good atmosphere, great real ale at a good price. Didn't have any food, so I don't have an opinion. It has a beer garden which looks well presented and a car park at the back if you need it. Would reccomend.

What a fabulous place. Upon entering, greeted swiftly by a very courteous and pleasant young man, took our order without fuss. Prices are very reasonable.. £22 for a bottle of prosecco. Spent the afternoon baking in the beergarden .... looking forward to returning on our next visit. Staff are an absolute credit to the owners.

Excellent pub to enjoy the ambience and relax. On a warm, sunny day, the outdoor area is amazing. Today, they had an independent trader doing pizzas. Didn't have food, but it smells beautiful. The Duke is York is a place you need to go to.

Was a great time until 10:50 and the manager was literally shouting at us and ushering us inside because of his license not covering outside at 11 which is fair enough but could of been a bit nicer about it and maybe come and said sooner as it was a mass exit for everyone

Beautiful pub and very dog friendly with a pub garden in a city, amazing. Pork pies, sausage rolls, all homemade fantastic selection of beers, rums, gins, and whisky. Staff are very friendly and very helpful, a must visit.

We went on a Monday so it was a bit quiet, but the atmosphere was pleasant (music varied and not too loud). The charm and character of the place itself (built in 1664, apparently) made it an enjoyable place to be provided you're not aiming to paint the town red (beige perhaps?). I'm unable to rate the food as we didn't eat.
