Lovely clean village pub, with a lovely ambience & atmosphere about it

Wonderful Sunday roast dinner, thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family. The lunch was plentiful, tasty and very good value too. My family all chose the large roast dinner which came with three meats - chicken, pork and beef, plus all the accompaniments such as stuffing, crackling, Yorkshire pudding, a huge bowl of green vegetables and roast potatoes. We did not have room for desserts but there was a lovely choice. We look forward to coming again soon to this very friendly and welcoming pub.

What a wonderful lunchtime experience in this very pretty village pub. Food was fantastic and great value for money. Will certainly be recommending to friends and family. Looking forward to coming for Sunday lunch in the very near future.

A warm welcome and excellent service at this lovely village inn. We arrived too late for Sunday lunch but enjoyed drinks in the bar. We parked our camper van in the car park with no problem. Our breakfast in the morning was well presented and well cooked. The coffee was great. Thank you for making us welcome and we look forward to visiting again when next in the area.

The food was exceptional, there was lots of choice and it was truly delicious. The service was excellent, all the staff are very friendly. The pub is dog friendly.

Closed at present seeking new tenants ,this was one of my local venues ,eating in or out doors with friendly staff . Of 3 pubs in my village we now have one the other being built on . Hope it reopens soon .

This is a lovely pub with a great atmosphere. There is a pleasant seating area outside, just the place to be on a summer evening. We often end up at this watering hole after taking one of the scenic walks that surround the pub. This spot is nice to grab a bite, and the menu won't break the bank.

Great local pub, staff very friendly and made a big fuss over our dog. Good selection of drinks on offer too

Arrived for lunch, lady admitted to just cleaning up from night before. Dust piles on the carpet. Musty smell in pub . Asked about lunches ,was not shown a menu,just told what was available, sandwiches or jackets. Jackets arrived,nice and hot but catering cheese used. Such a shame,used to offer a lovely lunch menu .

Food is very nice and well cooked, also the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The only thing that stopped it getting 5 stars was that it was quite cold inside the pub which just made it a little uncomfortable. Been like that on a couple of visits now so it seems its not a one-off. Mayeb just need a few oil filled rads or something around the place. But on the whole it was great.

Lovely food, excellent chips and my sea bass with risotto was delicious. Good range of on tap beers. Friendly staff.

We came into ‘The Dog’ for lunch… Mum and I had been possibly 2 years before, had a lovely lunch, this time we brought another couple of friends our lunch was wonderful. I would say to anyone who visits the village to call in the food is amazing

We booked 21 meals for my wife's birthday all the meals came out freshly made and the quality was second to none. Laura and Lee who run the dog in whittington are brilliant hosts and nothing is to much trouble . So if you want 1st class food,drink and hospitality the dog Inn always top of the list . Go in as a customer come out as a friend

Me and my friends came for a lovely meal and couple of drinks for my birthday and had a special time. The staff that worked on Tuesday 27th April were so welcoming and delightful: Lily and the woman with blonde hair (didn’t manage to get her name but she made our experience a like light) they were both polite and gave us excellent experience, the food and drinks were brilliant. All of us are definitely coming for a weekly sunday dinner. Thankyou all x

The dog inn has been an amazing first time experience. We asked for steaks that weren’t on the menu and they managed to find 16oz T bone steaks which were so well cooked. We had drinks and starters and deserts all you could not fault. I can not believe how nice the staff were we stayed there for longer than planned because the staff were so friendly. The big boss Put some food suggestions out and wanted our opinions. We can not wait for steak platters! Friendly staff, great service, great food. This is now going to be our local! Thankyou soo much.

Post lockdown garden beers. Wow, what a difference to the outside space. Great effort by the pub team to provide a comfortable, safe outside space. Great to be back and the Proper Job is excellent 😊

Visited the Dog Inn on Friday lunchtime, Laura and Lee made the 5 of us feel very welcome. We all had different meals and all came out cooked to perfection. Staff were all great really nice afternoon, look forward to visiting again soon.

We went with our 1 year old for dinner and we felt very comfortable, track and trace details taken as soon we were sat at our table. We are never disappointed with the food here. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. We will continue to go here :-)

We popped in for a drink and ending up eating there. Very well organised for distancing, hand gel available and good outside seating. The food was very good and the service was very friendly. Highly recommend!

Having read the reviews we decided to risk a booking. We used to live in the village and spent many an evening drinking here, but rarely went to eat. The pub has changed hands many times over recent years and we always hope for good things. We booked for an early tea and were a mix of over 70, under 16 and in between. The pub was quiet when we arrived and we received prompt service. As mentioned by another reviewer our temperature was not taken immediately on entering the pub, but somewhere between ordering and eating. We did comment that this seemed a bit random, but some places don't take a temperature at all and, as much of life currently, it is what it is.The food was, without exception, delicious (nuggets, fish curry, pies and a mixed grill - although apparently the peas were overdone). As time went on and the place filled up we did feel that the service slipped a little, but not irreparably.On exiting the pub we noticed a board with instructions for a one way in and out, but this hadn't appeared obvious on arrival, possibly as the staff were using the entrance to exit as we arrived.All in all we had a lovely meal, would definitely return and have already recommended that my sister and her family give it a go.

I have to say this is one of the most BIZARRE dining experiences I have ever had. Where do I start? 1. Waitress carried two pints of beer over to table in her hands and not on a tray. She held the glasses right at the top around the rim. Unhygienic in normal circumstances let alone with Covid. 2. Over staffed. Lots of waiters/waitresses wondering around swinging tea towels and looking generally lost. 3. Despite being the only diners in the restaurant, two others were sat on a table right next to us. I would say just about a meter apart. Seems silly as the rest of the tables were empty and would have been more sensible/safer to space us out. 4. Very strange decor for a country pub. For one example, as you enter there is a manikin with a pink dress and neon lights all over it. Just feels creepy. 5. Just as I finished my meal a waitress approached me and asked to take my temperature and contact details. I’m sure this should be done upon entry to the restaurant? It’s also not very nice to have to do that mid-meal. 6. We paid the bill and we’re finishing our drinks. Then approached by another waitress asking if we were waiting for our food. Felt very chaotic and stressful nobody seemed to know what was going on. Despite feeling stressed out for the whole of this experience, I have to say the food was lovely. Such a shame for the chef that this place has such poor front of house service.

We came here after reading amazing reviews and people telling us it was amazing! When we came in we were seated straight away! Perfect. We ordered drinks that came and were completely wrong. I ordered a fruit cider and and white zinfandel and a white wine spritzer and a child’s pop! We then ordered food and it took an hour and a half to come out three other tables that we could see ordered after us and got served before us but we weren’t that bothered about this because the weather was nice and we were happy to sit outside in the sunshine and drink away. When the food finally came out it arrived without the sauces we ordered. Which was fine but when you have to wait over half an hour for the sauces as well as the wait for the food it really was a let down! There had so much potential to be the most amazing country pub! Maybe today was a bad day but we’re now sitting on the que for kfc so that my husband can eat and it bothered me!

It can be very hard to find a good Sunday roast with many places putting price before quality, lunch here was very good.Having previously had an evening meal here we were more than happy with the quality of the Sunday lunch,beef was very good not tough or a cheap cut. Excellent desserts.We will be back.

My husband had seen this place on FB so we decided to call for a late lunch. The place us split as a pub & a restaurant. We sat near the open fire in the pub area as it was a cold day. My husband had the cheese & onion pie which he thought was one of the best he had ever eaten and I had steak pudding. The meals and the service were great. We would highly recommend.

We didnt book and I needed to be able to take my dog - so off we went to the Dog.Havent been here for years, what a lovely surprise. It was warma and welcoming and the staff were briliant. Real chuncky chips not mocro waved excellent Cod - lovely lunch great value for money will go agian

The new owners have transformed this pub!!!! Very friendly to all including kids and dogs!!!! Have eaten every visit and can’t say a bad word about the food. Lee does a fantastic job in the kitchen and Laura does wonder at the front of the house. Can’t wait for the Gin night!!!!!!! Well done Laura and Lee a fantastic job keep up the good work

After a long period where the pub was run by a variety of people, some pleasant, some less so, but all ultimately not successful, Lorna, Lee, the Kids and the dogs are now in charge, and have turned things around.The prices are back to reasonable, the staff friendly, the beer well kept. Despite a number of set-backs (e.g. a burglary) things seem to be going well, and the number of regular customers is rapidly increasing.I ventured back, after a number of years, for a late Sunday lunch with some of my family. We booked in advance, and thus were permitted to select from the main menu, rather than the Sunday one. Our table was ready and the meals arrived, as ordered, promptly. All were complimentary about the taste and the quantity. We topped it off with sweets, or in my case, cheese and biscuits. This, plus some excellent wine, made for a splendid occasion.I often come to The Dog for a drink, and have yet to hear any customer complain about any aspect of their meals.There are a number poor reviews, but all these date back to previous incumbents. Can I assure you that now you can book here with total confidence.

We booked our Christmas Day lunch, sounded ok with a champagne reception. We arrived and no one said anything to us, no warm Christmas greeting, no do have a glass of champagne. We sat at our table and after a while I had to ask if they served us our champagne or did I need to collect it. We could see the glasses with champagne they were all on a table. We were brought our drinks in wine glasses! I asked if we could all have the same in champagne flutes. Later our onion soup arrived with a piece of bread topped with cheese that had been melted on top. We asked to see the wine list and the lad brought it. My husband ordered a bottle of Montepulciano, the lad said ‘what?’ My husband pointed to it on the list! I asked if we could have some water for the table, ‘yes I will bring some, do you want glasses?’ I said it might help. Starter arrived,my husband had ordered the sea bream, it was hard in the middle. Then the pièce de résistance - the main course. I had the turkey lots of it with a big dollop of stuffing on top with big roast half cooked parsnips, shrivelled carrots, roast potatoes I could hardly cut and a dollop of mashed potato covered in gravy. My husband ordered the salmon, sounds good came with the same as my turkey minus the gravy. Salmon was on a bed of what they called monkfish and prawns. I have emailed the pub, but sadly heard nothing back.

booked our annual boxing day dinner my wife her mum and me for 3.30 ....had a few poor experiences but its now with new owners ! the new decor looks nice .....three course for £24.95 .....the food for very hot and absolutely great ! we were all unable to eat all of it ! cant praise the chef enough !! the staff so friendly and helpful ....nice bottle of wine and a nice pint of bitter .....so yes we will definitely be returning and soon so nice to have a place in our village that is worth visiting ....THANKS !!

Our party of 6 decided to try out the newly reopened restaurant at The Dog for our annual Christmas get together. We were very impressed with the complete change of style from that of the previous owner. The food was wonderful & what was even better was the low price of "The Bill". We felt that we had received excellent value for money & we will return regularly in the future.

Went to The Dog last week as we had previously visited and meal was lovely. On this occasion however we noticed that the menu had changed and there was nowhere as many nice choices

We stayed here in the spacious car park in our Motorhome under the Britstop scheme. We were bowled over by the friendliness of "The Dog Inn" staff and service. The dinner we had there was superb and in a wonderful setting. Whittington is a lovely village, and all in all a great stop over here for us.

Please note this pub has now cloesd. The people who had the restaurant have cleared the place out and gone. I will report back when the new company have taken over.

Our evening started badly in that the staff had no record of our booking for a table of 5, confirmed a week earlier. Arrived on time at 19:15. It took at least 15 minutes to get drinks and place orders for main course. It was not until 20:40 that our orders were placed on the table. The delay, almost levied at us by defensive staff, was they were busy and that we had not ordered starters.

Had 2 for 1 pizzas offer at lunch ..both were excellent and authentic.probably the best pizzas we have ever eaten..Staff were very helpful in boxing up what we couldn't finish. Big problem with the Happy Hour..2 for 1 is the norm..not here..no details of what is on offer, no discount and no explantion as to why we were charged full price. 16.86 for a cocktail and 2.5 pints of beer. Till is apparently 'programmed' to give discount but barstaff didn't know what the discount was was and the adverising outside just said Happy Hour between x and y. Needs clarification.

Went to the Dog for lunch with friends after walking along the canal from Hopwas, it has been revamped since the last time we went and we were pleasantly surprised at the change. The food was very nice and the service friendly and efficient, everyone in our party was pleased with their meal and we shall definitely be returning.

I have visited the Dog Inn on numerous occasions and i have to say it improves every time. I am a regular eater at san carlo in Birmingham and can say the menu in places is similar if not better. I love this place for its natural ambience and very good attentive service. The music is unique and feels you are on holiday

We dined tonight my daughter and myself.The mussels I had for starter were amazing and my Diavalo pizza was equally as good.My daughter had Calamari to start and Salmon and prawns for her main course,again perfect.The service was nothing short of impeccable,a wonderful dining experience all round.

After visiting several times last year and thoroughly enjoying the experience we took friends last week, we realised straight away that something had changed, first the place was empty, secondly the menu had changed completely. We were shown to our table and ordered our meals. Two of us ordered ribeye on a bed of rocket, we received fillet on a lone mushroom, nothing else on the plate. We queried the mistake and eventually the waiter agreed it was his mistake. Having said that the fillet was very good, just not what was ordered. The other orders were for lamb chops on a bed of mash. Again the meat was good, but oh dear the mash completely covered the plate with a ring of oil all around the outside. What a shame, we will not be returning, too many other options around Lichfield.

The Dog Inn was re opened mid 2018 after many years of failure. Revamped and with new owners it was a breath of fresh air for the village. Excellent decor, service, and food with a really nice ambience.We have eaten there many times, lunch, evening meal, Sunday lunch.

Family birthday meal. Kids and adults. Really lovely food for the starters mains and desserts. Staff were attentive but not imposing and we didn't feel rushed at all. Value for money and will go back again. Clean and tidy throughout with some really interesting light features.

We have been avid supporters of this pub through thick and thin and it’s many owners over the last few years and indeed drink in there every week. We live in the village and therefore see this pub as our local. We had booked for a meal to celebrate my husbands birthday with friends . The service was very poor, both at the bar and in the restaurant. At the bar my husband ordered some drinks and half way through making our drinks the bar tender stopped and started pouring drinks for a restaurant order! We have noticed each week the service is getting worse. The menu has changed for some reason, for the worse in my opinion. It is very limited & very expensive for what you get. There is no detail as to you what comes with the meals. The majority of our party ordered steak and were told it only comes with new potatoes and mixed veg, when we asked if we could swap this for chips we were told we would need to pay extra! We argued about this and after a little while they changed it and we weren’t charged the extra. When the food arrived the steaks were by themselves on the plate with a small scoop of mashed potato, we waited and asked if there was anything else coming out and eventually the chips arrived. The quality of the food was good so I can’t complain about that.

Met friends here who travelled from Norfolk for lunch, food was excellent, we all had lemon sole mains and the fish was cooked to perfection, vegetable including samphire and local fare were great, followed by Italian ice cream ...

I was I little worried after we had ordered as we didn't get any food for 50 minutes. However when our Sunday roast came it was delicious. Would definitely go again.

This was one of the nest meals, in one of the best atmospheres I have ever had. The staff were attentive and timely with everything. The food was outstanding, from the tomato salad to the huge pizza to the chocolate ganache, everything was perfect. My wife had salmon that was to die for, the linguine and the sorbet, all of which was fantastic!! I would recommend this to anyone but you need to book as it is very popular.

Since this tired old pub had a fantastic refurb and change of ownership during October last year we have been huge fans.

My wife and I tried the new menu at the Dog Inn last night under new Head Chef, Brandon.

Have been a couple of times and we divided to give it another try. The restaurant was busy and we were warmly greeted by the bar staff. As we sat waiting for our table the staff were being spoken to by the Owner/ Manager in an unprofessional way which was embarrassing for the customers and bar staff. Our meal was ordered and as on previous occasions the lack of vegetables was observed. We ordered extra vegetables. In my experience the best pub/restaurants in the area give plentiful vegetables and potatoes as part of the main course. The food was well cooked and tasty.

Very nice pub in village good selection of beer and wine Food was slightly better than ordinary pub food but possibly slightly higher priced Pleasant atmosphere and helpful staff would certainly come here again Phil

What a fantastic restaurant. Excellent service, superb food and a great atmosphere. Our first time there but not last, will definitely be back. Great menu and drinks choices. Try the “small dishes” and the fillet of seabass. Just perfect!

Visited here for the first time for Sunday lunch. I preordered a vegetarian Sunday lunch and was very disappointed. Very unimaginative as was veggies without the meat and was charged £12.95. Not impressed. My husbands meat version was ok.

The place is amazing. It was a brilliant atmosphere with nice music.From arrival to leaving, the staff could not have been more polite and helpful and every dish we had was nicely presented and delicious! We definitely wanna go back again.

I have been here quite a few times and always found the food and service excellent and good value. I did have one experience when the music was too loud in the bar (see previous review)but when I've eaten in the restaurant area it was fine and other times in the bar it was fine. Staff work very hard to please.

Went to The Dog on Saturday. Immediate striking features of the restaurant are the red grand piano and the unique multiple gothic light that sits above a high class low wooden table.

Walked in a few weekends ago and found the Food is beautifully cooked, however problems with staff is clearly arising management is poor look after your staff otherwise more will leave!! when this was opened local people asked for jobs to work and left due to vile treatment and word spread fast and now it appears more have left would think again eating here if this is how hard working staff are treated !!

The atmosphere was ruined by overload music which the manager was reluctant to lower.The standard of food is good but take some earplugs!

My wife booked a meal at the Dog inn for my birthday, the Inn was cosy and staff were very welcoming, the menu was extensive, the food was first class a night to remember.

My partner Karen and I went to the Dog Inn last Friday and it was simply one of the best nights we have had in a while, great host great food excellent service and not too expensive, you are missing out on GEM of a place if you do not go. We will be back very soon.

Absolutely amazing Saturday night dinner! At last we have found a restaurant that has the choice and atmosphere of any top London restaurant -but with better friendlier service! Can highly recommend to all my B’ham Airport colleagues as food is excellent with wonderful choice of menu and reasonable prices. Whoever designed this fabulous interior certainly has original flare, the ambiance made our visit truly memorable. We will be back- and very often. Thank you.p.s. The bar staff deserve a special mention for speedy service with a smile. Well done!

We returned for Sunday lunch ad our first visit was so good . We took friends and the Dog inn excelled yet again. I had the mushrooms in cream sauce for starters delicious. I had lamb roast for main cooked exactly as I asked and with marshmallow cheesecake as dessert it was just a fab meal.

After a long day in Lichfield walking and playing in the park we headed for Sunday lunch. We were treated like royalty. Lovely staff, great with the kids even did chicken specially for their roast dinner. Adults had beef which was the nicest beef we have eaten, melted in the mouth. Excellent selection of veg all perfectly cooked. Bone marrow gravy was incredible. We had four clean plates. The place was fab too with roaring fire, eclectic decor and a great selection of beer, wine and gin! Customer care was excellent. Totally recommend and will be back in the week and on a Sunday again

Due to eating at another pub we decided on a dessert stop here but so wished we had came for meal as well. When we first arrive got to say this place is so amazing warm inside all vintage looking it’s amazing so dessert wise I went for the cheesecake of the day which was strawberry cheesecake amazing my partner had creme brûlée again amazing will be coming here again for sure with my dog next time as u can take dogs here also very welcoming with animals.

Absolutely loved this place when it first opened and to be fair I still want it to come right. But the food standard from the change of kitchen has dropped significantly. The front of house staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you so thanks to them I can’t eat there again after a burnt roast with super thin pork loins I could have got from the coop. Love the atmosphere so would love a drink but can’t eat I’m afraid

Disappointing meal, Chips rock hard and Cesar salad awful! Had to ask for dressing and was given garlic mayo. Sticky toffee pudding had no toffee on it. Nice atmosphere though just don't eat there.

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch last weekend, food was top notch , the decor and ambiance was spot on , id suggest to book in advance to avoid disappointment as it got busy around 2.00 onwards , we had pork and lamb accordingly with a great bottle of red which was only £18 ! ...... highly recommend

Visited for lunch today with some friends. We were impressed by the decor etc and the pleasant service but less so by the cost of a restricted menu. The food was ok but not exceptional so the bill of almost £100 for two courses and soft drinks we thought a little excessive. Don’t think we will be back.

We called at the Dog after trying a pub in a nearby village that took nearly 10 minutes to decide that they were not serving food on a Saturday lunchtime - interesting business ethos.

Came here for a family celebration, one of our diners was Vegan, something I put on our online reservation and checked on the website where it confirmed vegan options available. On the menu I could only see 1 vegetarian option available on starter & main course, neither were vegan.

Second visit under the new management and they are still in the same almost but not quite situation.

Booked a table via email, which had not been picked up, but that did not cause a problem, were shown quickly to a table. Waitress returned a few minutes later to take our drinks order, extensive menu made choosing 'difficult' in a nice way.

Four of us recently visited The Dog for Dinner on a very Cold Saturday Evening.

After randomly popping in for a Sunday afternoon drink one day and seeing how lovely the place looked, we said we would return for food and I’m glad we did. We had a lovely lunch, the tandoori chicken wrap was delicious! Love the quirky decor and staff were friendly. Also love that dogs can come in the bar area as we often go for walks around this area. Was also accommodating for my 9 month old son. Will definitely be returning soon.

A truly wonderful restauarant with a fabulous selection of dishes to choose from and excellent value for money. I couldn't fault the attentive service of the friendly and helpful staff coupled with the relaxing ambience made this a memorable occassion for a family celebration.

You really couldn’t beat Valentines night at the Dog Inn. Everything was superb. The food, the wine, the service all top class.

We booked online.....admittedly we arrived an hour early & we were told to have a drink as our table wasn't ready. The barman was just rude...very abrupt & we felt so rushed, truly appalling.
