Came here while on holiday in the area. The prices seemed good on the menu in the window, and it looked popular. We were very happy with the food, the welcome and the drinks. It's a good old fashioned English pub. We had the curry which was excellent, piping hot, and plentiful in quantity. The staff were really pleasant, and the locals at the bar added to the enjoyment. Very happy to give this pub 5 stars.

We stopped here by chance for some food the other evening whilst trying to find somewhere to eat after a long day at Bovington. It’s easy to miss this as it’s not on the main road and that’s a pity because it’s brilliant. The staff were extremely friendly and the food service was fast and efficient. We had a curry and ham, eggs, chips and peas and the portions were fantastic. Neither of us walked away hungry or disappointed. If it wasn’t for the fact that we had a long journey ahead we could have quite easily stayed for the evening. This is how a proper pub should be: Warm, welcoming and leaving you wanting more. 👍👏👏

We went in just as we passed by as it’s down a side road and normally missed it. The menu was good outside so we thought why not. When we went in there was another menu as well with faggots from the local butcher and had to have that and there were 3 big faggots mash and peas with loads of yummy gravy. My hubby had the surf and turf and said it was great. The lady behind the bar was very nice and the locals were friendly too. The bit I thought was great was the ladies loos. So posh with marble all over very nice and unexpected. So it’s a big yes from us and we will be back Big thank you x

Friendly locals pub, visited Wednesday evening for Steak night. Had Rump Steak and all the trimmings, beautiful piece of steak, very tender, incredible value for £7.50. Had the Stilton sauce as well, clearly home made as full of cheese and flavour. My wife is not a carnivore so had 3 bean chilli which she enjoyed. We both finished with the crumble, very good. Definitely recommend this pub if you want a friendly atmosphere and good grub.

Called in to The Duke on the off-chance. Saw that it was steak-night and really excellent prices, plus a real fire in the grate. Welcoming and helpful host, Mark. Booked up for the evening and just like the pubs of old, full of atmosphere and people having a sociable time. Well attended evening. Suggest you book if you are going to go. Families, couples all mingling. Served by friendly and helpful young ladies, Zoe and Millie. Thanks young ladies. Chatted with the host which made our evening . Turned out he had lived near us and made us feel very... at home. Prices for steaks ranged from £7.50 for a 8 oz Aberdeen Angus Rump to Scottish fillet steak at £12.50. All served with fries, peas, grilled tomato and mushrooms. Bargain. Other items on the menu, plus a choice of starters...and vegan options. Husband reckoned it was the best pint of San Miguel he`d had in a long time. Cheers!

After a morning on the boat this Sunday roast was much needed and it didn’t disappoint. The beef came with a huge Yorkshire pudding. Friendly staff and a welcoming cosy pub. Lovely art mural on the back wall impressed us all. Good quality food, generous portions and cheesy leeks were a nice surprise. Could’ve done with more parsnips but overall delicious. I had the gammon which was very good. Looking forward to revisiting.

We were looking for a nice pub to have a meal when someone we spoke to said it was steak night at the Duke. After deciding to give it a try we were very pleased with our decision. I had a ribeye steak and my wife had a fillet both were cooked exactly as we asked for very enjoyable. My wife had a gin and I had a pint of summer lightening both were very nice. Ladies behind the bar were lovely and couldn’t do enough to help. We also thought it was very good value for what we had would definitely recommend.

We went in for a drink and wondered why this pub was empty despite the other pubs in Wareham being full. We soon found out why. The owner was talking to his friends at the bar about football. We were disgusted and shocked at the nasty, racist conversation, most of which came from the owner whose photos adorn the pub. The conversation was loud enough for the whole pub to hear and so obviously they thought it acceptable. It is not! We drank our drinks and left immediately. A very horrible experience.

Just popped into this pub for the first time after shopping and saw they did my lunch favourite of Ham, eggs and chips. Looked busy with locals sitting at the bar and people at several tables so thought I would have lunch and a pint of IPA. Locals not willing to move so had to go to end of bar and ordered. Beer a bit too cold and so flatter than should be but in this heat no problem.Sat and read local paper for ten minutes watching several meals come out. Plate plonked down with the information “ I killed one of your eggs by mistake” no chance to comment before she was off. Indeed one egg was severely over cooked and killed but the other was massacred, just a yellow play dough impersonation. Then I saw the chips were underdone! Thankfully the local ham was fine.So out of three items on the plate, one was over cooked, one under cooked one just right. So like Goldilocks I cut my losses and ate what I could. In this day and age where you pay up front you do not have much leverage and the risk of having your meal interfered with if you return it is not worth taking so i waited for someone to ask how my meal was but unfortunately no one did.If you cannot cook fried eggs without breaking the yolk or undercook chips you should not be cooking in a pub kitchen.

Veg selection was a little modern for my Mum’s taste, but again staff were very understanding and provided her with some peas instead. I had one very happy Mum at the end of the meal. Excellent meal. Served very efficiently. Generous helpings of traditional pub fayre. We all had something different - Pie and vegetables, Hunters Chicken with chips, a Trio of Faggots with mash and vegetables, a Trio of Sausages with mash and vegetables and Battered Cod chips and peas. Could not fault any of it and very good value for money.

We have visited this pub on every visit to Wareham, over the last six years. We always enjoy the food it is exactly what you'd expect from pub grub. We enjoyed joining in with the quiz on Thursday evening, we were made to feel very welcome, even winning a prize...shame it was the boozy prize!

Friendly and comfortable pub with excellent Sunday roast. Would highly recommend. Pleasant enough seating area outside and cosy bar.

We ate here one night during a 2 night break in Wareham. My wife had the Steak Pie and i had The Hunters Chicken. Both were nicely cooked and the pie had lean meat. My only criticism would be that the toilets need to be fully refurbished as they do not in my opinion meet the standard of an establishment serving food.

We chose this pub after reading the reviews but were sadly disappointed. The service was ok, the tables were sticky, the food was not very good!

Lovely old pub in an historic and fascinating town with a lot to offer the visitor. Large portions of local, tasty wholesome food. Fantastic faggots from the butcher up the road.

We were staying at Hunters Moon campsite next door with friends and just called in. Sunday roast was great, lovely meat and plenty of food. Billy's quiz was such fun, we really enjoyed the whole atmosphere. We enjoyed it all so much we went back in on Monday with more friends and had the same great experience. Billy and Maddie are such great hosts, we will definitely be back. Keep doing what you do guys

We were a walk in couple and seated by a very pleasant lady. Her colleague served us drinks quite promptly, and we ordered our food. My wife chose the braised beef, which she enjoyed, but the portion size was small. I ordered the vegetable tart with rosemary and garlic potatoes with a side salad. Whilst the tart was superb, the potatoes had been re-heated and were inedible. I mentioned this to the server but no allowance was made on the bill, and there was a 10% service charge, which we paid. It is in a lovely location but really needs to do better food wise. I could not recommend on this visit.

Lovely food, some very good priced light lunch meals and cooked kid meals. The rest couldn’t comment as didn’t see how much you get for your money but average price for a main meal was £15-£19. Nitpicking here but couldn’t help but notice not all the chairs were matching. For the price of the meals it makes it seem more classy if things like that are standard. Good choice of drinks, great location near station.

A great atmosphere on a Friday evening. We ate in the restaurant. Hake and Double Cheeseburger both absolutely excellent. Very swift and attentive service. Highly recommended.
