We have visited The Duck on various occasions. This time a visiting friend asked to go again, which we were more than happy to oblige. Again the atmosphere, food and drink were excellent. The staff are always very happy and helpful, this time a special mention to Poppy as it was her birthday 🎈. Also a shout out to the chef, Ben, thank you for making a fantastic gluten free pasta dish 😋 thank you everyone again. Will be back again soon😊

We recently enjoyed a Sunday lunch at The Duck at Burtle, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The pub itself is beautifully decorated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The food was very tasty, and we appreciated the quality of the dishes. However, I was a bit disappointed that the vegetarian nut roast I was looking forward to was unavailable. While the staff kindly offered me a vegetarian Wellington instead, it contained gluten, which I couldn’t eat. As a result, I opted for a halloumi salad, which, while good, didn't quite satisfy my craving for a traditional Sunday roast. Aside from that hiccup, everything else was great, and I would certainly recommend The Duck at Burtle for its charming ambiance and friendly service. Just be sure to check on menu options ahead of time if you have dietary restrictions!

I booked this for lunch with my Dad and Aunty. It was excellent! The service was impeccable, the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was so cosy and felt very much at home. The starter of olives, humous and rustic bread and dips was delicious. We had goulash, fish and chips and the fish thai curry, not one of us were disappointed with our choices. I had the meringue, Chantilly cream and berry compote for dessert and my Dad and Aunty had the ice cream, which they both said was delicious. The meringue I had was gorgeous, it was so light and tasty. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

Very welcoming staff, clean, modern interior. Delicious prompt, fresh, full plate of Sunday lunch food served by friendly, polite waitress. Tender beef, lamb and Turkey… freshly cooked. Crumble and custard particularly good. Would definitely return and recommend to all. Thanks for a great dining experience.

Popped in for dinner. Had lamb, expect it to be pink, but not bloody, covering the plate. I should have been asked how I liked the meat to be cooked? Boiled potatoes (3), half an appple, and small amount of green veg. Total waste of time and money. Waiting service was very good.

A really lovely place on the Somerset levels. Very friendly staff and plenty of space to safely distance from other tables. The menu is really lovely with lots of choice and different choices. We visited for Sunday lunch and also had Halloumi and Pigeon breast starters. Given the excellent reviews we were looking forward to it but were a bit disappointed. Yorkshire pudding was a strange yellow colour, vegetables were a combination of over and under cooked and beef was a little chewy. Also kids pizza was a Chicago town frozen job you don’t need to pay 7 quid for

We ate twice at this lovely restaurant this week whilst on holiday in Somerset. It was perfect for my elderly parents, with the staff being very attentive and helpful. The slow cooked pork belly was delicious on the Monday evening. A huge thanks to Majit the chef, who created specially requested Beef Wellington on our last night. A wonderful meal and the perfect end to our holiday. Not only excellent food but extremely good value for money. We felt very safe, with tables well spread out and and all the appropriate Covid19 measures in place. We highly recommend this restaurant.

The menu was excellent and spoilt for choice.Steaks cooked to perfection. Our family research on local restaurants onion rings put The Duck firmly placed in 1st place. A homely and very enjoyable relaxed meal with not a single complaint or judgement that could be made and to top it off very reasonably priced for the quality of both service and food. Stumbled across The Duck while taking a few days break in Somerset late September. The restaurant is nicely decorated, modern but keeping a lot of the local stone features. Staff are welcoming and friendly, clearly not at full strength but working really hard.I ate there in 3 consecutive nights and the food was excellent. Probably the best steak I’ve had in England and the pork with mash and cider sauce was perfect.I recommend this restaurant for great food at a reasonable price.

Excellent awareness during the current pandemic, hand sanitizer available on entry, and one-way system in force throughout the pub.Arrived at opening time on a Friday without booking (last minute change of plans). Staff were very welcoming, said their main room was fully booked, but offered us a table in a lovely quiet back room. Might have been a little darker, without views over their outdoor garden, but it was nice and private.Staff were attentive and very friendly, and the food was excellent, both very tasty and good portions as well. Me and my partner went to The Duck at Burtle for our first meal after lockdown ended. We were not disappointed, we had 3 courses and they were all delicious. The staff were courteous and friendly, and actually thanked us for coming out to support them in these tricky times, which was nice. The only minor negative was that we were in ‘the snug’, a room off to the side, as it was the only table left when we booked (last minute, my fault for deciding I wanted to go out on a whim!), it was nicely decorated but a bit echoey, which was a struggle for the first course of our meal, as there was a big party of around 12 people in there with us, making quite a bit of noise. Once they left, the atmosphere was nice and it didn’t matter that the room seemed a bit hollow.

Food was good. However,we were put in a room that was dark and felt like it was in the evening rather than 1 in the afternoon. Disappointed that the staff were not wearing masks. The waitress came up a bit too close for comfort.Having said that there was a good variety of food. Ours was nicely presented and delicious. Desserts were good too even if portions were a bit small. Our first meal out since lockdown. Extremely friendly and attentive staff. Food, as in the past, was superbly cooked and presented in good time. We really enjoyed the whole experience. Yes, not all staff wore facemasks but neither did all customers. Luckily, we are not paranoid about such things, as we took reasonable precautions, made use of the sanitisers and realise that covid is something we have to learn to live with.

We'd booked a table and it was pretty obvious by their reaction they hadnt accounted for us. I overheard one of the team say "I know what you can do" before we were put in an area that looked like a skittle alley. What's most concerning about our visit was the lack of covid safety measures. We watched a waitress clean two tables without using any cleaner, just wiping them down;the team weren't wearing masks or visors even when serving our food. We saw this at the end of our meal and our table were shocked. Our meal was dreadful, the fish and chips was so overcooked but the batter was still raw in parts because it was so thick. How the chef has managed to do that I don't know.My husband had a fish Thai curry which he chose because he is dairy intolerant, he didn't ask if there was dairy in the curry because it's not an ingredient used in Thai curry. It came with pilau rise and a naan bread which is strange in itself but my husband started to feel ill and asked if it was made with dairy. The waiter confirmed it was and his response was "you should have checked" and then bringing over a menu and showing him the disclaimer. No apology for not being competent in cooking Thai food. It also had a tomato and balsamic as garnish?! This is a clear sign that whoever is in the kitchen does not understand cooking. My sister had roast turkey, the waitress did a check back and asked if everything was OK. When my sister said hers wasn't the waitress responded by saying "well more for my dog then". Absolutely grim food and a matching service too. Used to be a really lovely pub. What a shame.

From the moment we walked into The Duck we couldn't have wished for a warmer, more professional greeting. Attention to detail from all members of staff is very obvious. We opted to try the Duck Burgers and were not disappointed - the burgers were so well seasoned and succulent and the battered onion rings we ordered as an extra side were to die for! Although completely sated we were grateful they were happy to box up a portion of the gin fizz, elderflower and lime cheesecake for us to savour later and all we can say is.... We absolutely loved our evening at the Duck, we were requested to use the hand sanitiser on arrival & a one way system was in place in line with Government COVID-19 regulations. We were greeted promptly & shown to our table by Chris, who looked after us very well all evening and offered drinks immediately we sat down. The pub is really lovely inside, bright, clean & contemporary and plenty of room between tables. There is also a delightful large beer garden. The service was excellent throughout the evening and the staff were all really pleasant attentive and cheerful. We were impressed how quick the service was. As for the food we were spoilt for choice, a great individualised menu, unlike the usual ‘pub grub’! Two of us had the lamb shank with pea & mint mash, which was beautifully cooked, as were the fresh vegetables with it, my mum had the smoked chicken breast tagliatelle, which she really enjoyed, & my daughter had the hunters chicken, which was very tasty. Everything you get is homemade and it shows! The desserts were just yummy! We had the sticky toffee pudding & ice cream, glitzy chocolate orange truffle torte, and profiteroles .. just delicious The prices were very reasonable & made even better by the the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme!! All in all a brilliant meal & we are going back next week for lunch! Thank you to the chef & all the staff for a great night.

Really good garden with play equipment tucked out of the way of other patrons. really comfortable atmosphere inside, we were lucky to be in a separate room, as we took 2 children under 2 it's always a little hit or miss on best behavior. On this occasion, the timings were set by other guests and so we had 2 tired children, the staff handled this very well offering a reminder that the toddler had to be seated when she was running food, no issues with us as this is for everybody's safety. Our waitress was a lady with fantastically multicolored hair (apologies I didn't catch her name). She was polite and friendly even in the face of 2 kids, a hoity-toity grandmother (decided to whinge about the speed of cutlery change), frazzled parents, and covid measures! Returned to The Duck today for lunch. They have a well thought out one way system for customers to follow, they have thinned out there tables so that there is a good 2 metre distancing, we left perfectly safe and that helped us to relax and have a great lunch. A very tempting menu was on offer. I had the smoked salmon and prawns, with a dill dressing and salad to start, while my partner tucked into a fantastic ham hock and shredded duck terrine. We both went for the confit duck leg with a four bean cassolet and saute potatoes, which was superb and despite saying we wouldn't, of course we did do pudding. A spiced manderin and cranberry cheese cake was my choice and Dave went for 3 scoops of sorbet, 1 blood orange, one apple and dry cider and one coconut. All in all nothing has changed at The Duck, food is excellent, service warm and friendly, atmosphere extremely relaxing and Covid precautions excellent and unobtrusive, while totally effective. Need to find and excuse to go back and try more of that menu!

We booked a table for a Monday evening, neither of us had been here before but oh my goodness we will be back! The food was just perfect, my partner had a sea bass and ginger fishcake started and I had a Brie, Kale and roast carrot croquette, they were delicious. I felt I couldn’t visit the duck without sampling the duck so chose the duck breast main course, it was cooked to perfection! My partner is a chef and ordered the rib eye, he tends to find that not often is it cooked as it should be but he said that it melted in his mouth and was medium rare just as requested. There only seemed to be 2 visible members of staff but they were friendly, attentive and couldn’t do any more for us if they tried. The actual pub/restaurant was wonderfully decorated, we went during storm Ciara so it was horrendous weather, however we stepped into another world, the fire was roaring and the comfort and friendly atmosphere made us want to stay longer than expected. I’d heard so many good things about The Duck but we’d never managed to get there until last week and now I wish we’d made the trip months ago. We popped in for lunch and it was exceptional. My husband had the famous duck burger which he said was probably one of the nicest burgers he’d ever eaten and I had the fish and chips. I’ve never had fish and chips so utterly perfect before, perfectly crisp batter with beautifully cooked fish and incredibly good chips. Homemade tartare sauce that wasn’t too sharp but just right. The portions were very generous so we didn’t have room for pudding but we will definitely be going back to sample those and more of the wonderful sounding menu too. I know you pay at least three times the amount for Christmas lunch but you would expect it to better than our experience. Very average food. No bread sauce and had to ASK for cranberry sauce. However what made it worse was the wait between courses! We were sat at 1.00 starter served 30 minutes later and then a 45 minute wait for the main. We left immediately after the dessert. Nearly 4 hours out of Christmas Day in a restaurant quite unacceptable. I’m afraid it’s the first and last time

The fillet was perfect, the ribeye was mainly done as requested but one section was blue rather than even rare. We drew attention to the issue with a waitress who offered to put it back on the heat. My husband had Duck which he said was really good. The thing I was quite surprised at, when we left it was very dark as it was a rainy night and there were no outside lights going to or in the carpark really quite dangerous, we couldn't see the paths so couldn't see if there were any steps or bumps.

Went to the Duck for the first time for midweek dinner. Nice atmosphere, not too noisy and service attentive and friendly, but discreet. Menu was varied and using local produce. I had the pork belly which melted in the mouth and my wife had the Hungarian goulash which was authentic and tasty. Desserts also fresh and delicious. Total bill for 2 courses and drinks was just over £40 - amazing! Best restaurant we have found in the area.

Called in for lunch to try their new autumn menu which we found well balanced in choice with a few vegetarian dishes mixed with fish & meat together with pasta. The premises are clean and the staff helpful and knowledgeable

I decided to take my mother for a birthday treat to the Duck @ Burtle and what a treat it was for us both. Very welcome greeting, nice atmosphere, very attentive service without being over the top and excellent Duck for the main course. My mother’s dessert was at first thought a little small but the cheesecake was very rich and tasty so in fact just right. My cheeseboard was more than enough to round of a lovely supper at the Duck. We shall return.

Down for the weekend in Somerset with family we were taken here for a meal on Saturday night. The menu was nothing out of the ordinary but the food was good. The size of the chicken way over the top but was delicious and well cooked. Service at the bar and and in the restaurant was very good. One minor complaint was that at 9-30 at night I do not expect young children to be running around the pub and noisy children at that. A point that I feel needs to be addressed for the comfort of all customers.

Ate here one lunchtime with family. Serice attentive though food service a little slow. Problem is they have no lunchtime menu so unless you fancy a big full blown evening meal for lunch then best avoided. We live nearby and last had lunch there 2 years ago. Returned hoping the menu had changed. No salads, ploughmans, salads, soup, sandwiches or panini. No specials board for lunch either.

We had passed this pub many times and finally got round to booking for lunch. Unfortunately the time we got there (standard 1pm lunchtime) they had a wedding party arriving also. We got drinks at the bar and was shown our table. We then waited 45 minutes for our food. When it came, my husband's meal was OK, nothing above average, but mine had clearly been reheated. My gravy, that was already poured on the plate, not in a separate jug, had congealed and my mash had an odd crust on it, yet the potato and cabbage in the centre were like molten lava! Maybe it was ready and due to the wedding party they forgot about it and then had to nuke it in the microwave! When you can't manage fresh mash potato when you have a busy shift, you have real problems! Sadly won't be returning to or recommending The Duck. :(

Felt had to 'post' a review-as having read the poor review of the Father's Day meal ,just could not let it go ,at that. By bad luck we sat as a party ,adjacent to the 'poor' review party. I don't think I have heard ,or seen such an obnoxious person in many years. From the start he 'lorded' it up giving his views on the location ,pub, food & service plus some extreme views on life in general -not to just to his group ,but loud enough for half the pub to hear. What a prat-in days gone by ,feel sure someone would have asked him to 'discuss' these views in a different environment. He was quite intimidating to a young female member of the staff ,so really no wonder service went slow! Our party had an excellent meal -only spoilt by a rude bully.

Went for dinner on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was really busy, we had a bit of a wait but it was well worth it. The food was excellent and served nice and hot freshly cooked which was nice and refreshing. The service was good to say it was really busy and they did apologise for the wait. Overall the starters and mains were great plus the deserts although they were on the small size.

This splendid restaurant offers everything. A fine selection of beers and wines, a menu of starters such as prawn and avocado, pigeon, and homemade soup. Mains include superb 14oz T-bone steak, Sirloin and Fillet, and a delightful pork belly offering. A wide selection, all freshly prepared and attractively presented. Portions are generous, so much so that we were unable to attempt the desserts menu, a pity as the list was varied to suit all palates.

Have visited a number of times and have always enjoyed our meals and service. This cost was our first time during the evening and was blown away. Service was second to none, the place was vibrant and alive and the food just fantastic! My wife and son ordered the duck burger and I opted for the belly pork and I did not regret. Served in an appropriate time my food was hot, tasted fantastic and mouth watering. All in all a great quick night out that we will repeat as often as possible. My picture unfortunately does not do my meal justice and you’ll have to try for yourself to believe how good it was

Great food, great service, great drinks. Toilets nice and clean too. The path along the front of the building is chippings , which is very poorly lit and the car park has no lighting at all which is bad I think. Any ladies with nice heels on be careful on the chippings and take a torch to get to and from your car.

We live about 20 minutes away and this was our third or fourth visit. On previous occasions we have been in a party of 4 and ordered wine by the bottle. But when you go out as a couple and one of you is driving you cannot drink a bottle so you depend on good selections of wine by the glass. Unfortunately the Duck does not meet this criterion. They have only three reds by the glass. One Chilean, one Argentinian, and on South African, though the last of these was not available so that reduced the choice to two. If you prefer European , Australian or New Zealand reds, as we do, that leaves you stuck. This is bad business decision making by the Duck. Wine by the glass is a big and profitable product line. A poor selection of choices reduces sales. Most of the other pubs with similar food standards in a 30 minute drive radius have a much better wine choice than the Duck. This is a pity because the Duck has a good ambience and competent food.

Went with my husband and daughter, on more than one occasion to this little café A true Gem, staff are always very helpful and cheerful, The cakes are amazing, I have tried to resist but find them too tempting, and unlike some cakes that look lovely but taste is disappointing, these are gorgeous in looks and taste, last time myself and daughter tried the courgette and lime, while my husband had coffee and walnut, both were very tasty, along with an unusual but delicious Mumbai chai, highly recommended. All in all a very nice eating experience with the backdrop of surrounding woodland, and stream that runs past.

We don’t live far from BOS so decided to drive down for a couple of hours. It was a very cold day so decided just to have some lunch then head home :-))) We noticed this little cafe and decided to pop in, there was a table right next to the window/door so we went to the back of the restaurant for some warmth, sadly the staff kept leaving the door at the back open even when my husband kept going and closing it. But apart from that hiccup the food was very nice, and I would return but when the weathers warmer :-))))

Started well, went down hill not because of food but treatment by very aggressive, intimidating landlord ! We had booked, on entering pub went to bar to buy drinksWe were greeted by a very nice lady behind bar,she asked if we would mind eating in the adjacent room as they were busy. She said she would come and get our order for food and drinks. We walked through corridor full of junk and toilet rolls into other room. This room used to be a nice dining room but now houses tv inside fireplace, numerous notices on walls and a lift that looks like a shower in corner.I imagine this room was not normally used.We did not mind sitting in there, looking forward to food.Lady came and took our orders and brought drinks .We were quite happy and were bemused when landlord entered and seemed quite unhappy that he had to serve us. He demanded to know if we were really hungry and wanted starters ,saying aggressively, most people don't as they would not eat mains. We assured him that yes we did want them.He then said nastily that if that was the case it would take an hour and half for food.We said politely that we did not mind waiting. He then said condiments were in the bar. At this point we were sort of amused by him being so rude ,likening him to Basil Faulty. Absolutely bizarre ! Starters actually came in 30mins ,everything fine.He delivered food, ribeye steaks 20 mins later. All cooked to perfection ,one of our party asked where in the bar the condiments were He replied aggressively again,"they are in the bar where I told you 20 minutes ago !! .OBVIOUSLY it does not register with SOME people !!! " The lady came and asked us if everything was OK and asked if we wanted drinks. We said yes and even complimented her on how nice steaks were. We asked him shall we pay in bar and he said aggressively again "Yes and most NORMAL people order drinks at the bar "He then left the pub. This to me was the last straw ! Up till then we just laughed it off .We are NORMAL people who actually live just down the road ! We were asked to NOT order at the bar but what is his problem besides being a rude, nasty bully.None of this was an attempt at humour. I have NEVER encountered behavior like it,let alone by someone who is suppose to be serving you and taking nearly £90 of your money. I have been told since by locals that he is like this ! I feel sorry for the lovely lady working there. Needless to say we will not be back
