The Drunken Fish in Windsor and Maidenhead

Returned once because the food was good. Second time it was AWFUL. The chips were 'soggy' and not properly cooked and the fish was tiny. On my first visit in July the service was really good but on the second visit the Lady could hardly be bothered! SHAN'T BE GOING THERE AGAIN!

Been to this place on many occasions as it was recommended by 1 of my neighbours in windsor, but today was my last visit. I never had such dry, overcooked, poor quality fish in my life. I had to chuck the fish in the bin as my kids didn't even wanted to try it and had to buy them something else at tesco. I've got a picture to proof the poor quality of 1 of the fish. When I tried taking the meal back the manager blamed it on the new kind of fish and that she just took it straight from the freezer. I don't mind the new type of fish...it was the way it was cooked. Anyway just to warn others on what to expect when you visit this place.

We noticed that the Drunken Fish now offers direct (through the restaurant itself) online delivery for a reasonable price. We’re local but didn’t want to drive down so used this. You don’t get the ETA until after ordering, which was 80mins!! It actually arrived after a chasing phone call and 100mins. We’re less than a mile from the restaurant so this is a ridiculous time to wait and the restaurant obviously aren’t set up for this service so should close it down. It’s a shame as we would have used the service regularly for my family but now won’t.

Meat was too chewy and the quality of food was very disappointing. The restaurant was also really messy.

Picked up a great family meal . Mixture of fish burgers kebabs chips . Fish was superb not greasy. Burgers were also great .

I like fish and chips - usually most chippy are ok - fish good chips ok or vicea-versa. Both the fish and chips were spot on and i really enjoyed my meal & very good value £6.59 for medium cod and small chips with a soft drink and a good sized portion. Most places charge nearer to £10

Visited this place last month for fish and chips. Nice fish but a little on the greasy side but all in all ok

really nice staff and the burgers are soo nice. The staff gave us free chips on the side. The burgers where made fresh to order

I like to think I know a thing or two about a chippy, being a northerner and having had a few packets in my time!! Was picking up a curry for the wife locally so thought I’d try this place for me, as it looked ok from the outside. Sorry, but chips are not good, almost translucent looking and hard to eat! Cheap cheap fish cake. 1830 on a Friday and I was the only person there... I should have realised!! People walking to and fro behind the counter, kids, adults... felt like a free for all or a family affair? Some in uniform, most not. Sorry guys, it just isn’t a proper chippy and I won’t be returning, id rather go out of my way to big fry in Egham instead next time. I like the branding, but this place needs to decide what it is... a decent chippy or a one stop for all off licence, come leccy top up come national lottery gaff. Maybe focus on the core business rather than be a jack of all.

Visited this place a couple of times since moving into the area. On both the occasions the fish and the chips were really fresh and nicely cooked. When ever you are passing through Datchet , a must stop for fish and chips lovers

Had the chicken doner which was very nice. Asked for it to be spicy but it wasn’t as hot as I wanted. Lamb doner and chips tasted great. Chips were on point. Kids menu was great value for money and included a drink. Nuggets were very tasty according to my 3 year old.

new management has not made any improvment to this place and although it does a good trade its really not the best and the chips are rubbish....Its clean the fish is cooked fresh but smells a bit. will not be going back. James C

Driving through Datchet I got a craving for a Pasty. Freshly baked pies and pasties or so the sign says. £2.50 for what is essentially a 50p Peters Pasty chucked in the microwave for too long until the base is like brick. Not a pleasant experience for either the pocket or the teeth

The team here are always very nice and friendly.

Stopped by here for fish and chips after a local recommended the place. The food here is good, the fish was cooked to order and the portions are huge! I was disappointed with my pie (which was actually a pasty). They had heated it up in the microwave and as a result all the outer pastry had hardened.

Been to this place a fair few times now. If you're looking for traditional Fish and chips then this place is excellent... Chips remind me of my childhood.... and the fish is a good size with excellent batter and tasty..

Always good fish and chips fried to order so always fresh, they also take orders over the phone so you can order in advance

Quick and friendly service - all fish fried to order. Tasty and crispy batter - delicious. Prices average but can be considered good as the food is good.

I chanced upon the drunken fish when diverted through Datchet but now I choose to go that way whenever I can and its for their half spit-roast chicken and chips - quite simply the best !

There can't be many off licences / fish and chip shop combo's but why not! Especially when the fish and chips are consistently good and when the menu includes the delicacy of the glorious Spam fritter, clearly not the healthiest option but if you are...

Datchet was a village bereft of a fish and chip shop until two opened up close to each other a few years ago.

Servicio muy amable y excelente calidad de la comida. A menudo me visita cuando ver como es una excelente relación calidad-precio.

Para una comida para llevar un salto, salió con la cena para la familia, refrescos líquidos y un billete de lotería! El personal es amable y servicial y plenaria de elección del menú y bebidas y postres. Una gran adición para el pueblo

Good chip shop with nice food, best one locally. However the prices do not reflect the portion sizes as the portion sizes are reducing but the prices are the same (and not cheap either). Their large chips is actually a standard size, suitable for one person! We are regular customers but are contemplating, finding another chip shop because it's not good value for money in the slightest.

One of the best - freshly cooked to order & good quality. If you are prepared to wait, really good fish n'chips.

Considering the central southern location of this chippy, I was suprised with the quality of the fish & chips. They were very tasty & freshly cooked to order.

Great Fitch and chips and pies etc. They also have a very well stocked off licence and chilled section (you can do the lottery there and top up your electricity card so almost all tastes catered for! (The curry sauce is fab!)

The Drunken Fish, is or has the potential to be the best Fish n Chips for miles! The taste of the food is like the good old days, I suspect cooked in lard. They sell booze as well? Hence "drunken" You can do the Lottery there too.Chocolate etc!But can you get your fish immediately? No you can't? Even on a Friday night you still have to wait while they cook it? Come on owner, put a few fish in the fryer all at the same time in anticipation for your customers coming through the door at dinner time? Don't change what you do, as its really good! But please risk it and get a few up on the warmer plate, ready for your customers

The foods not to bad. Good prices but the chips can be a bit soft and maybe be cooked for a bit longer. The service is quick The staff could take more time with the customers

We have always bought fish and chips from this shop, fish batter is always crispy with firm flesh. Generous with the chips too, which we can never finish off. Service is fine, considering we always have to wait for around 15 mins. Haven't tried any of the other menu items, however the fish and chips are good.

Eaten from here before, but find the batter on the fish soggy and no good. Also as a single woman am very intimidated by the groups of drunken? youths that hang around outside shop. Much rather walk a few yards and use ocean blue, much better food and better experience

Excellent service, friendly staff and good prices, use it at least once a week when I can't be bothered to cook, freshly cooked , lovely, will be off there after completing this!

lamb kebab,ok..two friends ordered chicken kebab,was defo not chicken given,but could only describe it as mixed grill,because chicken is white and this meat was multi coloured,including,long white hair in both kebabs...owner told me.his chicken kebabs were very popular! and was very stroppy when i pointed out the hairs...and dull mixed coloured untasty meat..chicken or not...will never eat from there again!

Excellent quality fish & chips, keep going back. The service is courteous and efficient even during busy times.

Went with the mrs one night as we didn't fancy cooking. Ordered a couple of kebabs and chips, all came to a very reasonable price. Once home, the kebabs were delicious and not greasy. Chips were equally as tasty. We will Defo be going back. No wonder they are always so busy!

All ways use it good food. All ways cook fish to order and the chips are very nice. It's a busy fish and chip shop and they all ways will cook what ever you ask

Me and my family regularly get our fish and chips from here and it is always great food. Quick service and average pricing i will definitely be returning for my lazy nights of fish and chips!

Ordered a haddock and chips - expected a wait as it was freshly cooked, but 25 minutes?!It wasn't even busy.The wait would have been excusable if the food was good but the chips were dry and the fish was tough and tasteless.I'd guess the reason for the wait and the toughness is that it was frozen ?Definitely wouldn't return.

I have never had a badly cooked takeaway from here. The fish is excellent and the chips are fine. This chippy has a large selection on the menu from calamari, pea fritter to deep fried mars bars. It is well frequented and the food is freshly cooked leaving it piping hot. It is open from 10 until 10 so it is great for those just coming home from work at night.

I have been a customer for over a year now and I can say the quality of food is just as good as it was when the shop first opened. Fresh Fish cooked to order and great chips, never have a problem with too oily food which is common for fish and chip shops. They also do more food than just Fish and Chips which I have not tried but I'm sure it will be just as good.

This is an unexpected jewel. Unpromisingly located, the Drunken Fish serves up freshly cooked fish and chips (everything is cooked to order, and with thin batter, skinless fish, etc. as options) and all of the usual chip shop fare. Because everything you buy from the Drunken Fish has been cooked to order, it's reliable, and is always fresh and hot, and they take care and pride in what they do.It's far and away the best fish and chip shop that I've experienced in this area - you'd have to go to the coast, the North, or London to do better.
