What a lovely find, staff are really friendly and helpful, love that they are all dressed smartly. The food was really good and served nice and hot. Couldn’t fault the service or the food. If I’m in the area again I would definitely return.

Lovely pub warm welcome from staff, shame about the toilets being freezing cold( need some heating in there),the table wasn't ready when we arrived so we had to wait at the bar but sadly it is a tiny space so we were stud in the way of the entrance door ,we were seated after 10 minutes Overall the food was lovely but there was not a lot of vegetables served so it was a good job we order sides Overall we would definitely go back maybe try the evening menu.

We took a detour on our journey home from Hull to try the Drovers Arms for Sunday lunch and it was excellent! We shared the confit of warm rabbit which was a perfect starter and then both enjoyed the roast beef dinner and the Drovers quartet. Vegetables were perfectly cooked and service very good. Hope to be back soon!

Lunch today to check out the refurbished Drovers and the new menu. Very impressed, so many options and great for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. We both chose sandwiches, served with homemade coleslaw and a very nice dressed salad for under a tenner. I had roasted veggies and my son had poached eggs on avocado, top notch. We could have had 2 courses for £22 if we had been hungry enough or the a la carte menu. Much wider choice than previously. The decor and music were fab, still a country pub but lifted to restaurant quality. Service was spot on. We were welcomed and looked after by a young chap called Isaac who was very attentive and kept checking we had everything we needed. Looking forward to eating in the garden when the weather improves, just hope they can accommodate us when word gets out how good this place is!

Had lunch here with family. Service was fine, starters were good. However, the mains were terrible. The chicken pie was tiny, the size of a pork pie. Came with roast potatoes however these were overcooked and dry. Another main was pulled beef risotto, but that was very bland. The dessert was described as gooey choclate pudding, turned out to be a basic brownie, not gooey whatsoever. Very dissappointed. Must have been the chef's day off, as food was not prepared by a chef 16/2/24. Paid £26 for this 3 course set lunch. Won't be coming back!

They have done an amazing job with the renovations - stylish with an up-market feel and a menu to match. A lot of places are closed on a Monday evening so this was a real treat; a few items were unavailable (assuming it was a busy weekend for them/Sunday Supply issues) but the staff were informative and knowledgeable and explained as they sat us at the table. We had Fish and Chips & Venison Burger, Sticky Toffee and Crème Brulee. Attentive and friendly staff; we look forward to coming back!

We have been a few times recently. We absolutely love this place. we travel from the otherside of York because the Sunday lunches are so good, fresh meat (plenty to choose from) always cooked for perfection, roast potatoes, veg, Yorkshire pudding and we always order extra parsnips and cauliflower cheese (which is unreal, credit to the chef) They are always to happy to make mash potatoes for my daughter and extra carrots. We’ve been for tea, the burger and pie are our go to! They are fab! I can’t leave a review without mentioning the puddings- They are out of this world evening if you think I’m you are full, make room, you will be glad you did.😍 Would also like to say the service from the staff is absolutely fantastic, so friendly, always checking in to make sure we have a drink. The new referb looks stunning. We really do enjoy this place!! We can’t wait to enjoy the beautiful outside in the summer

Refurbishment not complete but what has been done is looking good however if you refurbish please look at the toilets. Had set menu , as expected not big portions. Soups where warm not hot but presented well , mains nice but small and could have done with been hotter , note the fish and chips off the main menu was very disappointing as the fish was watery and tasteless, probably could have got better from a frozen food section of a supermarket. The puddings very nice . Expensive for what you get I would say , maybe they are trying to be something they are not . Having said that staff friendly. Would I go again , probably not

Friday, 3rd September - lunch - thought we would check out The Dovers having seen lovely images of the outdoor dining facilities. Parked in the ample car park and strolled through the lovely outdoor dining area and the images had not misled - it is, indeed, delightful. Well done!So we decided to eat and entered the pub to select drinks from the bar before finding a table outdoors. And here is where it all went wrong. There was a member of staff in the bar who saw us enter but ignored us and carried on with whatever it was he was doing. When we tried to attract his attention, he just said “someone’ll be with you”, so I sat at a table while my husband waited patiently at the bar and the member of staff carried on with his tasks. After 5 or 6 minutes, I asked whether the young man was too busy to serve us and he responded with “I’ll do it when I’ve done this”. At that point we left, and I must say, never have we received such a rude, bad mannered and indifferent reception. Surely this was an unfortunate, one-off experience.

It’s a real shame to have to leave such a poor review but this pub is struggling to provide an acceptable service. It’s not far from where we live so we booked in for 730 pm on a Saturday night. Whilst the menus arrived quickly, we had to ask to order our food some 20 minutes later. The waitress kindly explained that the kitchen was busy and there may be a delay but this did not really excuse the poor standard of food. We had squid as a starter which was awe full, Yorkshire puddings which were cool to cold and a late main course of lamb shank and duck which did not improve much. The staff were trying hard to keep the customers happy but we will probably give the Drovers a miss for a few months.

The offhand attitude during telephone reservation unfortunately continued during our midweek visit for lunch. For the first 30 minutes of our arrival we were alone in the restaurant, despite having requested an earlier booking. After being seated, we were not exactly inundated with service, which when it came was not friendly or welcoming, and very slow. The "butterfly chicken" was in fact two chunky pieces of chicken breast, and our soft drinks were delivered in pint glasses. The dessert was very heavy and not well presented. Overall, a return is not anticipated.

Sat outside in one of the new timber shelters which was nice. Waiters were good if not slightly jumbled as different waiters kept appearing to take our order that we’d already placed! The food, as ever was good (5 assorted Sunday lunches) but the desserts were a let down. Essentially between us we’d ordered sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream, and a toffee and vanilla Sundae. Without letting us know all the desserts arrived with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla. Neither of the people that ordered the sticky toffee pudding like chocolate ice cream and the ice cream Sundae was simply too rich as it was all chocolate. One of us asked if they had any pouring cream instead but by the time the waitress came back with it the dessert was finished (except the ice cream!).We did raise the issue with the waitress but she simply said “we’ve ran out of vanilla”. Communication ‘prior’ would have been preferred!

Called at Saturday lunch after having sandwich and fries 3 weeks prior. Although drink prices are More like a city centre price we were looking forward to a relaxing hour. Nice sunny day and the owners have invested heavily on Covid safe dining areas. The out door area is very impressive. We chose Drovers classics - beef and mushroom suet pie and beef lasagna. Safe bets I thought. Unfortunately, not good choices - my pie was cool and rather disappointing with little contents. I should have sent it back as the accompanying veg were also only cool but after a 25 min wait didn’t want to delay the meal any longer. My wives lasagna was hot but bland doesn’t do it justice and after 2 mouthfuls left it. I ate all mine but it was poor and if these were classic - felt very let down. The young server apologised and after discussing in the kitchen, took the cost off the bill. Didn’t ask for this but the gesture was appreciated. I would have much preferred the front of house to discuss the meal with me and reassure us it was a one off and Please come back so we can show you our normal quality. He didn’t and it’s their loss. Plenty more places to spend my money in. Pity though as it’s local but expensive for a village pub both in food and drink prices. They have to nail it to justify their prices and on this occasion failed. Disappointed

As usual the food was delicious but also as usual the service was incredibly slow. It took an hour from us arriving to our mains being served (with 4 ravenous 7 year olds!!!) and people who had arrived and ordered after us were served before. 2 of the menu choices were out of stock, which seems to be consistent. This is our 6th visit and it’s always been the same. The food is clearly cooked fresh which is great and the menu accommodates this with smaller choices (which I like) it’s just annoying when it’s further limited by consistently not having 2-3 dishes available and sold out. It’s not like everyone is just turning up out of the blue at the moment and making for a busy rush!Wait staff were friendly although trying to get attention was difficult until my friend said excuse me very loudly.

The food was great . It was a fairly quiet Friday evening in the restaurant. The five of us had no idea that once you are at the coffee stage you will be bullied into leaving. Ten minutes after the coffee arrived at 9.15 we were asked would you like anymore drinks. No thank you, ten minutes later the same question, same response from us. Then the waitress appeared at our table with a mop and bucket and asked if anyone wanted the toilet !. We were stunned. This was followed swiftly by a man who asked pointedly are you paying by card or cash?. We paid our almost £200 bill included a tip as the kitchen staff shouldn't have to suffer and left. Drovers train your staff and decide what you want to be. Part of the joy of eating out is socialising and as we left at 10pm I hardly think we were unreasonable.

Noticed several changes over the last couple of months, but not for the better. No longer the Gastro pub it was, with more Pizza, DFC type fast food on offer, now more quantity over quality. Big Bowl Chicken Skewers although ok, spoilt by being served with under cooked onions with roots left on. Recent Takeaway included 4 pots of mushy peas (all binned) instead of Garden Peas as shown on menu. Good points are the way the outdoor facilities have been adapted and Covid awareness.

Family of four adults (three generations) called for lunch today. The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious. Really pleased to have had multiple vegan options on the menu - it would have been the cherry on top if there had been plant-based milks available for a coffee afterwards. The staff were all very friendly, attentive and professional. We will definitely be coming again!

Been going since lockdown however since after Christmas (when looking for a new chef) food has been hit and miss. Disappointing that as soon as lockdown was lifted they removed takeaways, hiked up prices and basically forgot about the clientele that had supported them and just chased the revenue from dine in.Gave them another go today ordering roast dinners (takeaway) none came with potatoes 2 of the trio came with half Yorkshire puddings and no veg. Quality control is awful regardless of whether busy it is just unacceptable for over £100. What was provided was nice however, the kitchen clearly can’t cope. Also hearing staff moan when collecting was not professional and calling someone who was ringing over a job as a bar supervisor a numbnut should not be said by a manager at any stage, busy service or not.It is a shame.

We booked a outside table for 6:45 where we sat down and then began to scan the barcode to order our food/drinks. All 4 of us had no internet, which I must point out is not unusual as many others around us had the same issue. We were sat down for 30 minutes with no waiter coming to us at all after being told they wouldCome with menus. After waiting having not being able to order, we had to walk over to find a waiter so that we could order our food. We sat and waited for someone to come over and again, this took a very long time to the point we were close to leaving. Finally we ordered our food and after waiting 40+ minutes 2 of our starters came but the other 2 did not arrive. We ate and finished the 2 starters to find out after again, having to walk up to get a waiter to tell them they haven’t given us our other 2 starters where we were told it may have gone to another table. At this point we said forget about the other 2 starters and just focus on the mains. About 1 hour being there we were finally told that we could create an account and connect to the cloud to order drinks which is disappointing as this is not mentioned anywhere on the tables or menus and is clearly a common problem with having no internet. I should also add that we spoke to 3/4 waiters and non of them told us we could do this. A couple of waiters agreed that this should be pointed out in the menus or on the table as this is not shown anywhere. At the end when we asked for the bill this was another waiting game and we had to ask again for it. The bill arrived and the stater that had been forgotten was included, so we had to ask for this to be taken off. Over all this was a very disappointing experience and I think that unless you are sat in the tipi or the sheds, you are not prioritised and the level of service is poor. Those sitting in the sheds were given blankets for the cold, even though they were under shelter with a fire pit in the table. I would advise that if the standard of service cannot be consistent regardless of where you are sat, this should be reviewed and or the outside tables should not be used. There seems to be no service to those sitting outside with waiters only focusing on those sitting in the sheds and tipis. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a rota for waiters to switch areas to ensure all areas of your restaurant are covered. We left feeling very disappointed.

A big effort has been made here to overcome COVID restrictions.Booking is recommended as people have obviously worked out that this is one of the few places in the area that is open for outdoor eating at lunchtime.Face coverings required from stepping out of the car and must remain in position while moving to your table or going to the toilet. All staff wore face coverings and a nice touch in having simple uniforms.Good number of staff to meet and greet, taking orders/serving and taking payment at the tables. All very pleasant and efficient.A good number of outdoor tables under parabola and a few tables under proper cover in open sided chalet-type arrangements providing secure social distancing.Paper menus are brought to you and disposed of after use (or if like us, you can take them away and muse over what to have at your next visit). This is a very comprehensive menu, not just sandwiches but fully cooked meals. A wine and beer menu is also provided so no dithering about what’s on offer just because you’re not standing at a bar. There is a convenient QR code on the menu to scan into your NHS app.Lovely setting adjacent to the car park.Service was pretty quick even though there was good attendance and we were having cooked meals.Very good size portions with side dishes of seasonal vegetables.Well done Drover’s Arms.

Supported the Drovers through lockdown and enjoyed great takeaway food, however we booked to visit and use new outdoor facilities and found it very uncomfortable and cold.Yes the English weather is unpredictable but with the promise of blankets we were sure to be comfortable. We booked the tippee only to find when we arrived all seating is on wooden picnic benches, I mentioned I would be extremely uncomfortable, no good for anyone who would struggles with hard seats and no supports. So after a chat with a very inexperienced member of staff they said they could move us into the sun outside, we moved, thinking the seating maybe different, only to be put in the shade and we were frozen, asked if we could sit in sun to be told no all tables booked. Two groups then arrived and were also seated in the shade, they asked to move and were quickly found a table in the sun and both groups moved. I asked for a blanket which was great and kept me warm. I suffered pain throughout my meal as I have spinal and leg issues which ruined what should have been a wonderful experience as the food is faultless. We did not order desert as I could not sit any longer on the bench. When paying my bill, I mentioned the seating to be told they could supply chairs for those who were unable to endure on the wooden branches, no use at the end of the meal. Please train your staff .Hopefully this will be sorted as it is not a cheap dining experience, at £10 per glass for malbec I want to drink it comfortably.I have left this review so the seating is not a shock to others who would suffer, ask for a chair and cushions and enjoy the experience.

The pub has adapted well to the requirements needed for covid. The outside seating area is lovely with views over a neighbouring field. This said, some of the picnic tables were small meaning if 4 adults were dining, youd be elbow to elbow. The picnic tables also dont cater to those with mobility needs, and this was the only outdoor seating available. Not great if you have hip and knee mobility issues. The childs chicken nuggets, chips and beans meal arrived without beans. These were never produced. This said, my child was so dissatisfied with the chips, he said not to bother chasing them up. He loved the chicken nuggets, saying they were tasty. The chips tasted dreadful. 3 of us tried them, and all were in agreement. The nut roast is delicious, and the veg was blanched which is how we like them. Whilst the gravy is incredibly tasty, there is not enough of it to cover any of the veg or the Yorkshire pudding, which meant the food was dry. This was a shame. The roast potatoes were as dreadful as the chips. As a guess I'd suggest both were cooked from frozen. The staff were polite and engaging. The car park area isnt great with cars blocking each other in. It's hard to get out, due to incoming cars. Due to mobility and some of the food issues, we wouldnt return. For the cost, you would expect al of these issues to be ironed out. If you arent a foodie, want to take your dog and eat in beautiful surroundings at a premium cost, knowing its covid secure, then this is for you.

Me and my partner decided to treat ourselves to a takeaway from the Drovers Arms a couple of weeks ago. I had the fried chicken burger with fries, she had the fairground burger with chips. Both were spot on, the sides were tasty and the card boxes they came in were really practical. It isn't cheap for a takeaway. But for a treat or a meal out (once the pub re-opens) it's a great place. The online ordering and collection processes were quick and easy.

Can't find fault with the Sunday Roast at The Drovers Arms. Found this place on google after searching for somewhere to have a roast dinner on our way back from a stay in Harrogate. I wanted a cosy country pub with log burner and that's exactly what I got. I don't eat meat so really appreciate when chefs give attention to vegetables with seasoning and flavour. Although I'm not usually a big fan of nut roast it was delicious. Staff were attentive and pleasant.I wish we didn't live as far away or would eat here regularly. Won't look to go anywhere else for a roast next time we're in the area.

My husband and I had lunch at The Drovers, and we were not disappointed. From the friendly welcome, to a menu with lots of choice (not forgetting the specials) and socially distanced tables, the whole experience was safe and enjoyable. The food was freshly prepared, beautifully presented and tasty. Finished off with coffee that tasted as good as it smelt. Thank you to the front of house staff and the chefs - I can highly recommend the dressed crab and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Drovers Arms was recommended to us over a year ago and I've visited the establishment on a few occasions now with my family and with my friends. It is definitely one of our 'go to'. Their portion sizes are extremely generous, the food is delicious and the staff are always very friendly. Now I recommend the Drovers Arms to people who ask about good places to dine. I especially want to say thank you to the owners who when the pandemic first began, went out of their way to deliver a Sunday roast to me and my family situated outside of their catchment area. I found myself thrown in to working on the covid wards and struggled to leave my home through anxiety of putting anybody at risk. They sent me a bottle of white wine with a thank you note for my services and did not charge me delivery. I was deeply touched and will never forget that gesture during the early days of uncertainty for everybody. Such a kind and thoughtful thing to do, and even as take out, their Sunday lunch and their gravy was fantastic. Thank you so much!

Called in at the Drovers Arms today for a treat based on word of mouth recommendations. We were not let down, the garden is beautiful overlooking a field with some lovely horses whilst the outside eating area is sheltered from the car park by nice planting.Inside is nice, not uber modern but perfect for a countryside location. The fish and chips I chose on a whim was an absolute delight-really lovely fresh fish and the batter was perfect. Best I’ve had for a long time. The trio of meat Sunday dinner my husband picked was also lovely & our toddler enjoyed her kids meal. The girls who were waitressing were really friendly, only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars as the gent who greeted us at the door didn’t really do so with any warmth and gestured down the restaurant with his arm and told us a number rather than seeming welcoming and showing us to our table. A very minor point-absolutely wouldn’t hesitate to return.

I took my Mum & Auntie to the Drover’s Arms for Sunday lunch. We received a warm welcome, good service & given the importance of social distancing in these not so normal times, the restaurant felt safe & was clearly following government guidance. We all opted for the pork which was tasty, thick & tender. The crackling was perfect which is no mean feat. There was a varied range of flavoursome vegetables. Unfortunately, for me this is where the quality of our Sunday roast ended - the roasties were luke warm, bland and far from crispy. The stuffing can only be described as hard, unsubtle and glutenous and the Yorkshire pudding was disappointingly flat and tasteless. Fortunately the desserts made up for the underwhelming parts of the roast dinner. The cheesecake, lemon meringue pie & sticky toffee pudding were all delicious. The Drovers Arms is without doubt a popular restaurant. It could be even better if it aimed to produce more consistently tasty and good quality food across the board.
