Our lovely friends treated us to this great place on a busy Friday night. From the warm welcome by the attentive, caring staff to the beautiful food this place offered a really good menu that catered for gluten free diners as well. Starters were Yorkshire baby beets, Bang Bang cauliflower and Honey, sliced figs with chicory, all superb. Mains fish and chips, game pie, blackened salmon and steak and ale pie. Nothing left on the plates, says it all So book as it’s a very good, chilled place with a great team of staff. Our first visit, but our friend’s regular haunt. Thank you.

First visit to the Dovers Arms , Skipwith after moving into the area. Had the Roast Beef Sunday lunch and it was the best beef I have ever eaten and all the sides were excellent too. My wife enjoyed her steak pie and the desserts were fantastic. Rounded off by great quality drinks and amazing service. Highly recommended and can’t wait to visit again.

What a gem. The food is absolutely outstanding and well worth a visit! The restaurant itself is beautiful, very comfortable. We had Venison Kofta, and Whipped Goats for starters, both were super tasty. For mains, Steak Pie and Drover's Burger. The pie? Wow! The kitchen can DO pastry! Absolutely sensational. The Burger was cooked really well, and chips were delicious. (We want to also applaude for including game on the menu). The Lemon tart with champagne sorbet was a great way to finish. We throughly enjoyed our meals and drinks, and thought the prices very reasonable for such quality. The staff were welcoming, smiley and very smart. We will not hesitate to recommend, and we will be back soon.

We had Sunday lunch here this week and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was incredible. It’s a beautiful venue and portions were very generous. The vegetarian nut roast was as good as the meat ones too which you don’t always find. We have eaten here many times as we often stay at a local caravan park. We were served by a very friendly young lady and the manager who I think was called Jake (from the North East). The food was 10/10 but the service was 11/10! The manager and waitress were so attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The manager was so sweet and friendly with my mum in law (Carol), having fun with her, speaking to her by her name and really making her giggle. What he didn’t know was a few months prior she had lost her husband to dementia and to see her happy and laughing like this was wonderful. He had no idea about her loss but honestly his service and friendliness is a real credit to this pub restaurant. The prices are a little higher than average but I truly think you get what you pay for and everything is home made. I can’t wait to go back!

We made an error with our booking time and when we arrived the kitchen had just closed. So we said we would have a drink and leave. To our surprise the manager said he would get us some food gave us the menus for us to order. It was so good of them to do this all the staff were so helpful and accommodating. On top of this the food was excellent. A big thank you from me and my wife

Consistently fabulous food and service at this little gem in the village of Skipwith. We arrived for lunch at opening as we hadn’t booked and as we were 8, agreed to the servers suggestion to move to the large tipi. Great decision as it was very comfortable with heaters on and had a great ambience, with background music not too intrusive. Drinks in hand (wine lovely) we addressed the menu, there is a lunchtime menu as well as a la carte so lots of choices. We ordered pizza, steak, fish sandwich, gyros and the warm roast sandwich with gravy, they were all excellent. There are lots of staff here and from being greeted on arrival we were always well attended, we even took pizza home in a doggy bag! All in all a very successful lunch out, it can be difficult to please so many people but this country pub ticked all the boxes.

Called to make a booking for 7.15pm. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our table. We all ordered different dishes and they were all delicious and beautifully presented. There was not really enough tummy room for dessert but it would have been rude not try something. The Creme brulee for me and sticky toffee for my friend, the sticky toffee was huge, would have been happy with a smaller piece, but he did manage to clean the bowl! Really lovely experience and we will be returning.

Fantastic stop off on our way home, never been before but would definitely want to come back. The Sunday roast was amazing, I had the vegetarian nut roast, which was delicious. Been searching for a good gastro pub since moving into the area and finally found this place. Warm welcome and so many dishes that we wanted to try on the menu. Settled for Venison Burger, Fish & Chips and Chicken Pies - everything was hot, well presented and delicious. We will be back soon to try some of the other dishes that we fancied. Oh and if you visit make sure you ask if ‘Denise from Selby’ can look after your group, she was fabulous 😂

We came for the second time today having had such a lovely time before. When we arrived at 5pm we asked for the set menu and were told it was only available mon-thur. This is not what is stated on the website which I have checked after returning home as there is no signal in the restaurant. I picked this restaurant for two reasons, firstly we had enjoyed our initial visit and second as we were treating someone else today we were mindful of price which is why I specifically booked for 5pm to get the set menu as advertised on their website between 5-6, Mon-Fri. If we had not been treating someone else I would have questioned this but I did not want to make a fuss in front of them. The food was good, the service was good but a little hit and miss as some waiting staff were clearly more experienced than others and we spent more money than we expected due to being given incorrect information about the set menu. I would like to have discussed this via e-mail with the management team but can't find any contact information other than the telephone number which would be pointless doing on a busy Friday night. I hope they see this review and contact me as I really object to them advertising one thing on their website and then not offering it when you arrive. Very poor.

We have just returned home after a superb lunch ( to celebrate my husband’s birthday but won’t tell you how old he is! ) . We were seated as requested in a quiet area at the far end of the restaurant The menu included food to everyone’s taste - each dish was excellent - starters, ,mains and desserts to die for! The waiting staff were courteous , efficient, immaculately dressed and helpful. Thanks to all the staff for such an enjoyable experience. We shall return asap!

6 of us booked in to celebrate my parents birthdays (asked what the occasion was at time of booking, but not sure why?) seated away from the bar round the corner which was good for the kids, décor is nice and comfortable. My main criticism is that the service was lack lustre, it just seemed like we were forgotten about throughout the meal and when we were served there was no special attention from the server to make it feel like a special occasion. There was no mention of birthdays and no special touch (the smallest things can mean so much). The food was good in general, the fish platter was disappointing as was 95% deep fried. Needed more fresh fish - the salmon that came with it was delicious. Rating - just above average Feedback - staff need to be more attentive in general, make people feel special and welcome, ask if everything is OK - with every course. Ask if customers would like anymore drinks (regularly) - you will sell more. It really is the small things that make a difference and for me, good service is on a par with the food.... It's so important to get this right. I also turned my ankle on the grass near the slide/bench, there is some large divots on the edge of the grass which need filling in ASAP.

Lunch today to check out the refurbished Drovers and the new menu. Very impressed, so many options and great for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. We both chose sandwiches, served with homemade coleslaw and a very nice dressed salad for under a tenner. I had roasted veggies and my son had poached eggs on avocado, top notch. We could have had 2 courses for £22 if we had been hungry enough or the a la carte menu. Much wider choice than previously. The decor and music were fab, still a country pub but lifted to restaurant quality. Service was spot on. We were welcomed and looked after by a young chap called Isaac who was very attentive and kept checking we had everything we needed. Looking forward to eating in the garden when the weather improves, just hope they can accommodate us when word gets out how good this place is!

Had lunch here with family. Service was fine, starters were good. However, the mains were terrible. The chicken pie was tiny, the size of a pork pie. Came with roast potatoes however these were overcooked and dry. Another main was pulled beef risotto, but that was very bland. The dessert was described as gooey choclate pudding, turned out to be a basic brownie, not gooey whatsoever. Very dissappointed. Must have been the chef's day off, as food was not prepared by a chef 16/2/24. Paid £26 for this 3 course set lunch. Won't be coming back!

They have done an amazing job with the renovations - stylish with an up-market feel and a menu to match. A lot of places are closed on a Monday evening so this was a real treat; a few items were unavailable (assuming it was a busy weekend for them/Sunday Supply issues) but the staff were informative and knowledgeable and explained as they sat us at the table. We have been a few times recently. We absolutely love this place. we travel from the otherside of York because the Sunday lunches are so good, fresh meat (plenty to choose from) always cooked for perfection, roast potatoes, veg, Yorkshire pudding and we always order extra parsnips and cauliflower cheese (which is unreal, credit to the chef) They are always to happy to make mash potatoes for my daughter and extra carrots. We’ve been for tea, the burger and pie are our go to! They are fab! I can’t leave a review without mentioning the puddings- They are out of this world evening if you think I’m you are full, make room, you will be glad you did.😍 Would also like to say the service from the staff is absolutely fantastic, so friendly, always checking in to make sure we have a drink. Refurbishment not complete but what has been done is looking good however if you refurbish please look at the toilets. Had set menu , as expected not big portions. Soups where warm not hot but presented well , mains nice but small and could have done with been hotter , note the fish and chips off the main menu was very disappointing as the fish was watery and tasteless, probably could have got better from a frozen food section of a supermarket. The puddings very nice . Expensive for what you get I would say , maybe they are trying to be something they are not . Having said that staff friendly. Would I go again , probably not

Friday, 3rd September - lunch - thought we would check out The Dovers having seen lovely images of the outdoor dining facilities. Parked in the ample car park and strolled through the lovely outdoor dining area and the images had not misled - it is, indeed, delightful. Well done!So we decided to eat and entered the pub to select drinks from the bar before finding a table outdoors. And here is where it all went wrong. There was a member of staff in the bar who saw us enter but ignored us and carried on with whatever it was he was doing. When we tried to attract his attention, he just said “someone’ll be with you”, so I sat at a table while my husband waited patiently at the bar and the member of staff carried on with his tasks. After 5 or 6 minutes, I asked whether the young man was too busy to serve us and he responded with “I’ll do it when I’ve done this”. At that point we left, and I must say, never have we received such a rude, bad mannered and indifferent reception. Surely this was an unfortunate, one-off experience.

Lovely food, great service from a young team of staff working hard in hospitality during a difficult time and staff shortages. Those people that wish to complain about issues need to look at their own manners and approach first having overheard some of the comments made to front of house staff etc. Food excellently presented, served and delicious. It’s a real shame to have to leave such a poor review but this pub is struggling to provide an acceptable service. It’s not far from where we live so we booked in for 730 pm on a Saturday night. Whilst the menus arrived quickly, we had to ask to order our food some 20 minutes later. The waitress kindly explained that the kitchen was busy and there may be a delay but this did not really excuse the poor standard of food. We had squid as a starter which was awe full, Yorkshire puddings which were cool to cold and a late main course of lamb shank and duck which did not improve much. The staff were trying hard to keep the customers happy but we will probably give the Drovers a miss for a few months.

The offhand attitude during telephone reservation unfortunately continued during our midweek visit for lunch. For the first 30 minutes of our arrival we were alone in the restaurant, despite having requested an earlier booking. After being seated, we were not exactly inundated with service, which when it came was not friendly or welcoming, and very slow. The "butterfly chicken" was in fact two chunky pieces of chicken breast, and our soft drinks were delivered in pint glasses. The dessert was very heavy and not well presented. Overall, a return is not anticipated.

Lots of lovely little huts, with heaters and blankets or a huge canopy area. Food was lovely and staff really helpful.

Sat outside in one of the new timber shelters which was nice. Waiters were good if not slightly jumbled as different waiters kept appearing to take our order that we’d already placed! The food, as ever was good (5 assorted Sunday lunches) but the desserts were a let down. Essentially between us we’d ordered sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream, and a toffee and vanilla Sundae. Without letting us know all the desserts arrived with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla. Neither of the people that ordered the sticky toffee pudding like chocolate ice cream and the ice cream Sundae was simply too rich as it was all chocolate. One of us asked if they had any pouring cream instead but by the time the waitress came back with it the dessert was finished (except the ice cream!).We did raise the issue with the waitress but she simply said “we’ve ran out of vanilla”. Communication ‘prior’ would have been preferred!

Called at Saturday lunch after having sandwich and fries 3 weeks prior. Although drink prices are More like a city centre price we were looking forward to a relaxing hour. Nice sunny day and the owners have invested heavily on Covid safe dining areas. The out door area is very impressive. We chose Drovers classics - beef and mushroom suet pie and beef lasagna. Safe bets I thought. Unfortunately, not good choices - my pie was cool and rather disappointing with little contents. I should have sent it back as the accompanying veg were also only cool but after a 25 min wait didn’t want to delay the meal any longer. My wives lasagna was hot but bland doesn’t do it justice and after 2 mouthfuls left it. I ate all mine but it was poor and if these were classic - felt very let down. The young server apologised and after discussing in the kitchen, took the cost off the bill. Didn’t ask for this but the gesture was appreciated. I would have much preferred the front of house to discuss the meal with me and reassure us it was a one off and Please come back so we can show you our normal quality. He didn’t and it’s their loss. Plenty more places to spend my money in. Pity though as it’s local but expensive for a village pub both in food and drink prices. They have to nail it to justify their prices and on this occasion failed. Disappointed

Swift friendly service. Excellent food. Outside undercover facilities. Probably the best local pub I have ever visited in a lovely village. You can sit outside and look out over fields or under cover outside which is fab or inside which is a typical country pub. Well well worth a visit

We booked via the app which was easy to use. However our only option was inside as it said the outside was unavailable. We were seated and drink order taken. We then noticed that everyone else coming in was asked if they would prefer to be outside. The food was great, but as all the waiting staff were outside it was 30 minutes before our food was served. 20 minutes after we finished eating for the table to be cleared and then another 35 minutes before sweets arrived. We did ask both the young male and the young female waiters if we could have service but they told us they were not allowed and would send someone. Eventually the man who was outside taking orders came in to find out what the problem was.

As usual the food was delicious but also as usual the service was incredibly slow. It took an hour from us arriving to our mains being served (with 4 ravenous 7 year olds!!!) and people who had arrived and ordered after us were served before. 2 of the menu choices were out of stock, which seems to be consistent. This is our 6th visit and it’s always been the same. The food is clearly cooked fresh which is great and the menu accommodates this with smaller choices (which I like) it’s just annoying when it’s further limited by consistently not having 2-3 dishes available and sold out. It’s not like everyone is just turning up out of the blue at the moment and making for a busy rush!Wait staff were friendly although trying to get attention was difficult until my friend said excuse me very loudly.

Great meal - and really well laid out outdoor area . Service was really friendly. Portions are large: the small pot of mussels (absolutely delicious) was huge! The sharing platter for 2 was enough for a starter for 6! Recommended.

The food was great . It was a fairly quiet Friday evening in the restaurant. The five of us had no idea that once you are at the coffee stage you will be bullied into leaving. Ten minutes after the coffee arrived at 9.15 we were asked would you like anymore drinks. No thank you, ten minutes later the same question, same response from us. Then the waitress appeared at our table with a mop and bucket and asked if anyone wanted the toilet !. We were stunned. This was followed swiftly by a man who asked pointedly are you paying by card or cash?. We paid our almost £200 bill included a tip as the kitchen staff shouldn't have to suffer and left. Drovers train your staff and decide what you want to be. Part of the joy of eating out is socialising and as we left at 10pm I hardly think we were unreasonable.

I was a bit nervous about dining here due to some of the earlier negative reviews but thankfully our experience turned out to be very positive. We had a table for three on a busy Friday evening and, although the staff were clearly under pressure, the service was friendly and very efficient. The food we had was of good quality. Excellent fish and chips, Seafood linguine and Chicken tikka kebab salad followed by a nice lemon tart. Drinks service swift also. Altogether a nice dining experience. My only criticism would be that the parking area is quite small and it can be a challenge to find a space at busy times.

Noticed several changes over the last couple of months, but not for the better. No longer the Gastro pub it was, with more Pizza, DFC type fast food on offer, now more quantity over quality. Big Bowl Chicken Skewers although ok, spoilt by being served with under cooked onions with roots left on. Recent Takeaway included 4 pots of mushy peas (all binned) instead of Garden Peas as shown on menu. Good points are the way the outdoor facilities have been adapted and Covid awareness.

Family of four adults (three generations) called for lunch today. The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious. Really pleased to have had multiple vegan options on the menu - it would have been the cherry on top if there had been plant-based milks available for a coffee afterwards. The staff were all very friendly, attentive and professional. We will definitely be coming again!

Been going since lockdown however since after Christmas (when looking for a new chef) food has been hit and miss. Disappointing that as soon as lockdown was lifted they removed takeaways, hiked up prices and basically forgot about the clientele that had supported them and just chased the revenue from dine in.Gave them another go today ordering roast dinners (takeaway) none came with potatoes 2 of the trio came with half Yorkshire puddings and no veg. Quality control is awful regardless of whether busy it is just unacceptable for over £100. What was provided was nice however, the kitchen clearly can’t cope. Also hearing staff moan when collecting was not professional and calling someone who was ringing over a job as a bar supervisor a numbnut should not be said by a manager at any stage, busy service or not.It is a shame.

We booked a outside table for 6:45 where we sat down and then began to scan the barcode to order our food/drinks. All 4 of us had no internet, which I must point out is not unusual as many others around us had the same issue. We were sat down for 30 minutes with no waiter coming to us at all after being told they wouldCome with menus. After waiting having not being able to order, we had to walk over to find a waiter so that we could order our food. We sat and waited for someone to come over and again, this took a very long time to the point we were close to leaving. Finally we ordered our food and after waiting 40+ minutes 2 of our starters came but the other 2 did not arrive. We ate and finished the 2 starters to find out after again, having to walk up to get a waiter to tell them they haven’t given us our other 2 starters where we were told it may have gone to another table. At this point we said forget about the other 2 starters and just focus on the mains. About 1 hour being there we were finally told that we could create an account and connect to the cloud to order drinks which is disappointing as this is not mentioned anywhere on the tables or menus and is clearly a common problem with having no internet. I should also add that we spoke to 3/4 waiters and non of them told us we could do this. A couple of waiters agreed that this should be pointed out in the menus or on the table as this is not shown anywhere. At the end when we asked for the bill this was another waiting game and we had to ask again for it. The bill arrived and the stater that had been forgotten was included, so we had to ask for this to be taken off. Over all this was a very disappointing experience and I think that unless you are sat in the tipi or the sheds, you are not prioritised and the level of service is poor. Those sitting in the sheds were given blankets for the cold, even though they were under shelter with a fire pit in the table. I would advise that if the standard of service cannot be consistent regardless of where you are sat, this should be reviewed and or the outside tables should not be used. There seems to be no service to those sitting outside with waiters only focusing on those sitting in the sheds and tipis. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a rota for waiters to switch areas to ensure all areas of your restaurant are covered. We left feeling very disappointed.

Has been cleaned up and looks much better. Unfortunately, you can get more than a pint and a bag of crisps here. People were coming in to score and staff are aware. Sitting area out front is nice to people watch and the weird comings and goings in Taddy.
