The Dragon And Peacock in Mid Sussex

Don’t bother ! Years ago this takeaway used to be the best in town, since the 70’s it’s changed chefs/management various times and you’d expect a little variation but this evening’s takeaway was awfully bland, poor quality and we were given the wrong dish, despite the girl repeating our order at the counter. The Sweet & Sour Prawn Balls we ordered turned out to be tough dry Pork Balls at home, we couldn’t eat them they were so dry and tough (see pic). The Special fried rice had nothing special about it. It was dry, flavourless and uninspiring with tiny chopped bits of meat, egg and peas. (See pic) The House Chow Mein used to have slices of Char Siu, beef, jumbo prawns and chicken bursting with vibrant flavours with spring onion and garlic BUT not anymore, the noodles tasted like they’d been stored in an old plastic container as the dish had that tainted flavour. The Chicken Satay was clearly factory produced and brought in, it was stringy breast moulded into shape densely coated with the sauce. It really wasn’t nice at all. I gave them 1 star because my son was able to eat the free prawn crackers, not bad for £25.70, never again. Tasted so bland, we left 90% of it !!

We have always used dragon and peacock however not anymore. The lady that serves is so rude and always wants me to go to the cash machine which always annoys me when the order is already over 20 pounds! Issue with order this eve and all I get is, it’s your problem. Won’t be going there anymore.

We ordered food online at 18:40. It arrived at 20:15. I called 3 times. All I was told was that the driver is new. The ‘driver’ left the takeaway at 19:25. It was absolutely disgusting that the owners blame a driver who in new! The driver had lots of deliveries all for the same time of 19:30. Talk about setting your driver up to fail. Shocking way to blame staff rather than take responsibility and either get more drivers or do not promise a time commitment you can not meet. Will not order again. Food was below average, which is not surprising after being shunted around in a car for so long. Steer clear!

Has been in the same family for a few generations. A well known business. Sadly when the original owners retired I don't think the next generation had the same passion. May now have been sold out of the family. Fairly standard fare (the wholesaler delivers each morning), albeit cooked to order as you can hear as you wait in the sparse counter area. Photos are accurate of what you can expect. Portion sizes have decreased somewhat and the high value protein items have reduced. Convenient central location in town, but if you walk up he hill past the railway station Hin Mins offers better value. Another long established family business (with full restaurant as well) that guarantee they do not use MSG.

Very overpriced cost me £9 for special fried rice with curry sauce on top. Food was bland and no where near worth the cost. Safe to say I will never be visiting this place again!

I ordered the Chinese food in the takeaway when visiting my parents in burgess hill. Really impressed with the flavours and taste here compared to others, also much better in my area! My parents told us it had been there over 50 years. We will definitely come back from it next time👍

Overpriced food now albeit tasty! Been using Dragon and Peacock 20 years and tonight placed order for delivery and shocked at how expensive it is now! The thing that gripes me the most they charge for delivery and dont throw in a bag of Prawn crackers anymore. Will try Kings Garden as that seems to have better reviews now!

My vegetarian husband ordered a mushroom curry. However, on getting home and tipping curry on to rice that he had also order he discovered they had given him a king prawn curry. Far enough mistakes happen; however, when he called them up they said that they had no drivers in area and made him come and collect the correct order. Added to that, when he got there they moaned that he had contaminated the rice and they couldn’t resell it!!

The chicken on the satay was rubbery. The chow mien was very dry The sweet and sour vegetables was very watery, bland and had no pineapple. There were barely any vegetables either sadly. The chicken curry was tasteless and sweet and again the chicken a bit suspect. Mostly just ate the rice. The only deeming feature was the duck spring roll! Really disappointing. This was our treat of the month and a complete waste of money.

Had takeaway from here tonight, food was very very good!! Ordered by phone (when I could get through) and only waited a few minutes when I went to collect. As I said food was very good but attitude of staff could be a little bit less Curt. Quite abrupt, felt quite sorry for a guy who came in to order, it was almost he was a pain as phone ringing. ALL customers are value, please make note and respect all. We will definitely use again and will hope to see staff (or owners) improvement.

Driving through burgess hill, stopped here for a takeaway, ordering was simple very covid savvy, 10 min wait then food appeared, nice and hot not greasy very tasty, good quality ingredients used the rice was especially nice, alot of takeaways now use cheap bland rice, this was quality 👍👍👍 very good and next time we pass through will definitely stop again

Opposite the bus stops in town,perfect for picking up a takeaway on the way home.Mostly chinese on the menu,nice and fresh, love the Chicken Hong Kong style.

Extensive menu. Longish wait if visiting. Better to order in advance and you can collect or pick up. Well presented food nice and tasty, worth patronising

Chose this restaurant as we needed a takeaway that was open at lunch time and we used to have lovely meals from here. Although delivery is advertised, it is not available at lunch time which is such a shame. Half duck with pancakes was nice but disappointed that we couldn't have order delivered.

This is the first time in all the years we have been going here for our takeaway that Ican homestlysaythe spring rolls were disgusting, we threw them in the bin.They were soggy and had a strange taste to them.The chicken chow mein was lacking in chicken. Very disappointing visit. 55 minute wait for the order as well. Need a bigger kitchen.

I have tried many take aways, like many. This one was recommended and didn’t disappoint! Now drive 30 mins to get food as other places are just not as good. Never had a bad meal.

We have never used Dragon and Peacock before as we used to use Tim Leys. The food was fresh and hot and the order was correct. Very flavourful and enjoyable. We will order from here again.

The food it good and nice but why o why do they have to put peas with everything it just is rubbish that is the only bad thing.

The food is always hot and freshly cooked.. Phoning up and ordering is so easy, staff are so happy to see you and make you feel good

Me and my family decided we wanted to give a take away in burgess hill we had never tried before, we always used to go to Tim Ley but since they have recently turned into just fish and chip shop we very rarely go there now. The chicken won tons well if you can call them that, tiny piece of something wrapped in pastry didn't taste like chicken and didn't look it either. £4.80 for basically nothing rip off! The rest of the food our whole family was unwell almost straight after consuming our meals. We will not return and i don't know if its just us but they have doors between their reception area and the kitchen. So everything is literally done behind closed doors just looks awfully suspicious to us when we arrived to collect our phone order. Also was not a cheap take away for us. We miss Tim Ley so much they were the best their fish and chips is ok but we do miss their chinease.

We always use dragon and peacock! Best Chinese for miles ! Wouldn’t go anywhere else. Always hot, lots of taste, caters for everyone’s taste bud. Nothing is ever too much for them.

Had the house special curry on Saturday night 21/10/2017. Bad mistake several hours later I was up with sickness & diarrhoea which went on all day Sunday until had cleared my system. Will never know if it's was the curry but guess it probably was.

We only went here as Our usual takeaway had trouble with their kitchen it was disgusting, greasy and horrible steer clear of here. Sauces with food were far too sweet and vinegary. The battered chicken balls were just a ball of stodgy greasy mush and the chicken chow mien was so dry and I struggled to find any chicken. All in all we will not be ordering from here again.

I have been coming here for a couple of years and it is by far the best in Burgess Hill. I have stopped trying other Chinese takeaways and just come her now as I am never disappointed. Staff are really friendly and there is a great choice of food.

We ordered a take away on a Friday night, we were told delivery would be 45 minutes but it came within 30 minutes. Good choice of dishes, reasonably priced and we would order again from them.

Great food always & plenty of it. Cooked freshly so a little wait but well worth it.friendly staff & helpful with advising on the food contents. Never had bad food from this place & have used it at least 25years. Best chinese in town shame...

Just had another excellent takeaway meal for hubby's birthday..............sweet and sour prawn balls, special fried rice, beef chow mien, prawn toast and spring rolls. All piping hot on delivery, and on time to the minute. Cannot fault the Dragon and Peacock on value or quality...............Gong Hei Fard Choy， 恭喜发财 to all staff :)

We ordered take-out, and it was great. We had a wide range of dishes, including duck - which apparently tasted amazing.I had plain egg-fried rice (as in, rice with egg, nothing else), and some lemon chicken, and by gosh it was incredible. I live in Canada, and the 'Chinese' food here just doesn't compare to a good British 'Chinese'. It was great to get my fill while we were in the UK, and I'm glad my parents suggested this place.The food was delicious and piping hot. I could've eaten it all and then some!

No frills no fuss takeaway with the standard Chinese menu. Food consistently good and portions sizes good. A regular Chinese takeaway destination for our family.

We have used this as our takeaway restaurant of choice for a year or so now. The delivery is always prompt and within he timescales specified. The food is hot and tasty. Staff very friendly

I have used this chinese takeaway shop for almost every night in with my friends and we all agree that it tastes delicious. The food though cheap, delivers in great flavour. Unlike other Chinese takeaways they aren't afraid to chuck in a few spices, which makes the food all the more tasty. The delivery time was quicker than expected which was great as we were very hungry.

Got a takeaway here for Fathers Day - pre ordered the day before for a 6pm delivery, turned up dead on time.Food was good, fresh and hot.Will use again :)

Food is delicious, Staff extremely friendly and always happy to see you. They get very busy but so far haven't suffered any poor service. If you like a good Chinese takeaway I'd recommend you try here.

We have used this takeaway for many years and it has changed hands several times, under the present owners the quality is getting back to the level we used to have years ago. We hope the standard remains high. The value for money is above average.

I've been here before and had a fabulous takeaway but it seems to have gone a tad downhill. Chicken and prawn balls dry and over cooked. Noodles had a strange taste, as did the pancake roll. Tasteless. Couldn't finish it at. Disappointed and I hope it was a one off as they are lovely people.

Absolutely shocking rang to have some of order replaced and was the same poor quality of not worse certainly will NOT be using again which is sad as a customer for 20 years

Used to get takeaways from here frequently but for the past couple of years we have been using another and in our opinion better one in Burgess Hill. They were closed this weekend so we got a takeaway from Dragon and Peacock, The food was presented well, hot and we collected it within 30 minutes from order. Unfortunately, that night and the following day, several of us have had upset stomachs and been quite poorly. Today I went to tell them about this, I made it clear that I was not after a refund or a free meal but just to bring this to their attention and that we had not eaten anything other than the takeaway but all been quite ill. They accused me of lying and said no one else has been ill and that if it was their food that I should prove it. The female worker continued to refute that their food had made us ill then when their phone rang, took the call and ignored me without even asking me to wait to discuss the issue or even apologies. Sadly we wont be ever returning and I wouldn't recommend this takeaway in Burgess Hill.

always have a great takeaway,the staff are most helpful - as my partner is gluten free, and they can direct you to the most suitable food to order.always busy on weekends - sometimes quicker to order in store than try to phone in

Since this place has been taken over the food has been terrible! When u complain the manager laughs!!! We are told to take food back to prove how bad! No refund offered! Ordered duck and it was all fat! Chicken curry is more like onion curry!!! In fact they can't even cut the onion it's like a full onion in ur curry!!! Will never go here again and would advise every one to do the same! Noodles are tasteless!!! Chicken balls hardly cooked yuk yuk yuk!!!!

Very good food and very efficient.The delivery option can take a long time during busy periods but they are always up-front about the wait, so it's never a surprise.

We always order our Chinese takeaway from Dragon and Peacock for several reasons; they are one of the best in the area for choice and quality but also have the best hygiene rating which I feel is extremely important when choosing where to eat.The one occasion our delivery was late was because the BBQ sauce I ordered had leaked on the rest of the order on the way to us. Instead of the delivery driver dropping off a ruined meal, he returned to the Dragon and Peacock to have them cook our order all over again.You always get a friendly service in store or on the phone and for the portions you get I find the prices extremely reasonable.Personally, I think this is one of the best Chinese takeaways in Mid Sussex and I am surprised at the negative reviews I have seen on here.

Picked up a takeaway from here on a Sunday night. The food was reasonably priced. It may have been because it was a Sunday but the service was extremely quick - About 5 minutes from placing my order and walking out the door with my dinner

We have been using this Takeaway for the past 15 years of more. We have yet to be disappointed in anything we have ordered.I wouldn't go anywhere else for a take away in Burgess Hill.

As one of the loyalty customers for one year, the food is very nice with full. At weekdays, I can get my food within 10 minutes which is very convenient.

first time in about ten years since I last visited this Chinese takeaway which hasn't improved at all.the food is cooked too fast and is underdone as was two of our four dishes,,,last time I go here for Chinese food.stick at cooking it myself!...crap value for money.

Used this takeaway many times over the past few years and always happy with the food and service.Tonight was just plain awful. Stated it would be an hour delivery, turned up 1:45 hours later- rang during this time got told its on it way. Food cold upon arrival and utterly sh1t to be honest. Rang and complained got told tough basically, they were very busy. Will never use this place again

I have used this chinese take away for 15 years and was always excelent food though sadly it has been taken over recently and the food is now just plain awfull!!! I will never use them again. I had special fried rice which was the worst I have ever had,Beef chow mein was bland and the noodles were dry, It is a shame as they used to do the best pancake rolls :( well time for a change i guess!

Thank you Dragon and Peacock. What a fantastic mixture of flavours and textures. The best king prawns in sweet and sour sauce I've have ever had. The food arrived quickly and was very hot. Definitely very good value!

We always have such great takeaway from here and its also quick out and hot. Lovely Hong kong sweet and sour chicken, chew mein and chicken curry. Never had a fault with them and always our first choice for a Chinese.

Just had a takeaway delivered!!! Not good at all!!! Chicken satay was was chicken in chicken stock...chicken in yellow bean sauce was bland. Not a patch on others in surrounding area. Phoned and complained only to be told there is a new chef...bring back the old one I say!!!
