The Downtown Diner in Hastings

The Downtown Diner in Robertson Street Hastings, East Sussex is a restaurant catering for American style food. Homemade Burgers, chicken, ribs, mac cheese etc. They cater for vegetarians and vegans also gluten free. They provide Sunday Lunch, and breakfasts. They also make amazing deserts. A lovely family restaurant.We had take-away Sunday Roast. I had childs portion my husband normal size. My portion was absolutely right for me. A superb roast beef, 4 different fresh vegetables and roast parsnips, Yorkshire pudd and lovely roast potatoes. The price was reasonable £6.90 for mine and £11.00 for my husband. The food arrived promptly to time and nice and hot, very important. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant. If you visit the town pop in and give it a try.

Just had the North Carolina burger. Delivery turned up earlier then expected and the food was great. Will order again top job.

Delivered earlier than expected was the only plus. Chips looked like they'd been recooked. Or from the night before. Were Luke warm Ciabatta garlic bread was like cardboard. Chilli hotdog. Pulled bbq pork hotdog were both cold. Dog bun was so soggy it disintegrated if handled. Waste of money.

We treated ourselves to a take out delivery. All the food was delicious, just as it is when you eat in! Delivery was on time & the food was packaged up & presented very well. Definitely recommend. Looking forward to next time already!

This is by far the best burger I've eaten in Hastings! Will definitely be coming back to eat here again!

I think.there was around thirty of us at Phil's birthday bash. The food came out at a steady rate all at the same time. The burgers looked great but I went with the full rack of ribs. I was not disappointed the portion was massive and the meat just fell off the bone. The Jack Daniel's marinade was spot on and I got in a right mees. The service was great and the beer flowed well. Thank you all for a nice evening and or looking after us.

Just been in for Sunday Roast and it was scrumptious, very filling and flavoursome Desert menu is out of this world Would highly recommend Staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble

Thought we’d give this a try as seen a lot of adverts on Facebook about the breakfast and thought it was time to go. Delicious hot freshly cooked breakfast would thoroughly recommend a visit to try for tourself.

I have visited twice and both times have found the food and service excellent. The restaurant really try hard to make your visit special. The music is quirky but enjoyable. My only quibble which hopefully will improve over time, is that on my two visits there were very few customers which made the ambience a little lacking. Good luck to the owners.

A spontaneous visit on a wet and windy Saturday night , very welcoming and polite staff, excellent food and very filling and at very reasonable prices . Will be visiting again soon.

About 20+ and a few toddlers gathered at this America diner the atmosphere was fantastic the staff were always happy to help and cater for specific tastes the food was typically American which is to say the least fills the plate and some so if your an average size eater don’t eat much or anything on the day

Took my son here with family for his 12th birthday. The service was very good, staff friendly. Meals were great value for money. Kids loved the juke box on the table. Will definitely return in the near future

What a fantastic place to go... took children here last weekend and was not disappointed.. kids meal deal is such a good deal and they definitely was not hungry after.. food was amazing presented lovely and tasted even better... great food.. friendly atmosphere and definitely returning

What a fun friendly place. I couldn't fault the service and the food was amazing. My first time here but certainly not my last.

Took the kids for an early dinner as I had heard decent things. Sadly we were disappointed. The kids burger bun was burnt, the wax paper under the cheesy chips was disintegrating and we were eating the paper with the chips and the chicken breast with the waffles was very dry. Don’t think we’ll be returning.

Visited yesterday with my friend and went for the lunch menu, would have been good value for money if the food was edible.

Spend a whole hour waiting for food which never arrived, horrendous service for which people said would come and never did. Do not expect to receive anything in the same day you attend this place.

My son and I popped in for lunch last week, and we were both really glad that we did. We received a friendly welcome, and settled down to listen to great music from the on-table jukeboxes.

Went to the downtown dinner today with my family first time going there the food was great, puddings were great, staff were really good definately going there again recommend it anyone.

This is only my second visit, even though I have been trying to get back, I had the classic hotdog this time, which was very tasty and followed by the lotus cheesecake again very nice.

We received a recommendation of this restaurant and decided to give it a go. Clean and fresh restaurant and cool decoration American style. Small juke boxes on the tables add to the fun and entertainment element (American 60s style music), would be really cool to have more songs to choose from. It was a hot day, and the restaurant was even more hot than outside. We were starving at the point of arrival, so we asked about the waiting time which was important to us, and we were promised food within 20-30 minutes. 45 minutes later we received the food.

Tried this out tonight. Clean and fresh restaurant and decorated out in American style seating. Small juke boxes on the tables add to the fun and entertainment element (American 60s style music). I had the burger with pulled pork, fries, slaw and side of onion rings. No complaints. Freshly cooked. Good quality and tasty. Reasonably priced. Will be back soon to check out the chilli dogs! Several good burger joints in and around town now, but will certainly keep this on my revisit list.

We spot this new opening after a morning shopping day and we decided to stop for a burger and to try the new venue.

Myself and my daughter went here for lunch on a Saturday after doing a spot of shopping we only had a few picky bits

What a great new restaurant, it has a good menu and the portions sizes are big. The little jukeboxes on the table are a great touch and kept the kids entertained.

Delicious food, great service and staff with a brilliant atmosphere, the milkshakes are amazing! Love the little jukebox's on each table, such a perfect touch to the diner. Would 100% reccomend this place to anyone!

Thought I would try new diner as I am partial to a good Burger. Wasn't disappointed the burger was excellent the chips were delicious and the home made slaw was great. Highly recommended.

Went in with my partner when we got back off holiday and wasn’t disappointed. Food was very tasty and the milkshakes were to die for . Will be visiting again very soon .

Went here for a friend's birthday as a group of ten. Was excited as the place looked great but was disappointed very quickly. The staff didn't seem like they knew what was doing... Ordered two drinks and the lady serving tried charging me double!! Her response was she's just come back from holiday and she feels new again. Wasn't impressed by that! The food took a while to come out but there was a notice saying food may take a while as it was cooked fresh but when food came out it looked like it had been cooked twice because it was so over cooked!! No one came back to check our food and when we wanted to ask for condiments the staff had there backs to us constantly. For the price they charge you would expect better service and food but obviously not.

We tried out the Downtown Diner and we were not disappointed we each had a different burger and they tasted great however for me the cheesecake was the star.

Absolutely beautiful food. So lovely and cool inside. Very friendly staff, couldn't fault the food or the atmosphere!

Went out for a dinner with friends and was greeted by accommodating staff, despite being a Friday night and there being 6 of us, we were seated quickly and made to feel very welcome. We all loved the vibe, the decor was great and it actually felt like I’d walked in from Hastings and into the states. An authentic looking diner, with a genuine American feel topped off with some 50s & 60s American classics to listen to.

I have been here a couple of times since opening and I can honestly say the food is amazing.

Well what can I say popped in for a bite of eat with. My wife and son and was blown away with the look , the service was excellent and wow the food was freshly cooked you may have to wait longer but wow the food was amazing , the staff where brilliant to my little boy and I liked the quirky duke-box on the table they made us feel very welcoming to start to finish and we be certainly be going back again for my delights well done downtown diner

Went in for a late lunch today, was very disappointed. The table wasn't clean, the food was average and over priced and the staff seemed more interested in taking to each other at the counter than looking after customers. Will not be going back.

I travelled across from Bexhill to try this new diner in the White Rock/America Ground area of West Hastings.

My family and I had a great family meal here. The service was outstanding, really friendly atmosphere and the staff all smiling.

This place is amazing food was perfect and I left stuffed! Service was spot on and very helpful....I recommend this place 100%
