My daughter and I had been looking for a place to eat one evening and we were irritated by the expense of the restaurants overlooking the river. We came across this place by chance on a Tuesday evening eat about 9pm - we easily got a table and were quickly served a pleasant waitress. The menu seemed to be a nice selection of Italian staples but I'm very suspicious of pasta and risotto in restaurants as they are frequently very poorly cooked. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and went with her choice - Spaghetti all Carbonara. My daughter had Seafood Linguini. Both arrived and had clearly been freshly prepared and cooked - both were very good, my apprehension about poorly cooked pasta was unfounded here. All in all, a charismatic place (not like a chain) with good Italian food and service.

I went here after a trip to London with my wife and children for lunch. We ordered mains only, wife and I had pizza and the children also had mains, which to be fair were ok. Our pizzas were like the ones I use to buy as a student, 2 for 4 pounds. I am convinced they came from a food company or a supermarket - they were flavourless and like cardboard. We asked for ice cream for the children, vanilla and strawberry, only vanilla turned up. By this time I was so shocked at the size of the bill, having only having had four halves of peroni and a distinctly warm glass of white wine i couldn't be bothered to say anything. I won't be going back, £100 for something I could have eaten 18 years ago with some Spa beer for under a fiver in my student halls. This review gets two, because the waiter was decent. He had to be.

Went here on a Saturday night as we were at a nearby bar. It's a great looking restaurant but the place was practically empty most of the time we were there, which usually isn't a good sign. Between our table of 5 we each ordered a starter and a main. The calamari was ok, I didn't try any of the others. For a main I ordered the calzone, but wanted to substitute the mushrooms for jalapenos. I asked the waiter if they could make it without mushrooms which didn't seem to be a problem, but when I suggested jalapenos he didn't know what I meant. We repeated it a few times but he'd genuinely never heard of it. I still think that's absolutely bizarre that someone working in a restaurant doesn't know what a jalapeno is. Either way the calzone was good. Overall the meal wasn't bad, but quite average. The location is really good and the interior is great, the food just wasn't that great

Cibo buono, prezzo alquanto caro.

Very average. I ordered calamari which was over cooked and rubbery. The base of pizza I ordered was very heavy. It was a thinish crust but just stodgy with too much cheese. It was the sort of pizza you get in a pub that doesn't have a pizza oven. They included the calamari on the bill but did agree to remove it.

This restaurant was virtually empty on a Friday night and that was a clue. The waiter was friendly, he hovered, he lingered and he made small talk, a lot of small talk. We joked about it being his first night in the very rare gaps between his visits. I ordered sea bass, which was great, he brought me chicken which was not. I asked for the sea bass and he explained how he thought that he would let me try it because sea bass looks like chicken. Indeed. He disappeared. He returned with the news that there was no sea bass, I asked for a menu. He disappeared. There was an uncharacteristic lull in attention. I asked the other waiter if he could bring me another menu so that I could order and eat in the same time zone as my dining companions. I ordered the steak our original waiter reappeared and asked, somewhat bizarrely 'what happened?'eventually my steak appeared with some free water the obviously frozen chips screamed Iceland My companions chatted, one left most of his risotto because the 'fruity de mere' sic was 'too rubbery to eat' one ordered ice cream, which came, another ordered coffee which did not. When the bill arrived there was good news -I had been charged for the sea bass but not the more expensive steak because of the error however the House Red was charged at more than £25 per bottle, there was a £9.70 service charge clearly not optional, or indeed dependent on service. Don't do it. There is a wetherspoons up the road, the food will be very similar and the service infinitely better.

We had high expectations and it looks nice both outside and in but the food was dreadful. One of our party had Veal in Breadcrumbs and it was a Bernard Matthews turkey burger. I also had Veal in a mushroom sauce and it was thick and tough and looked like a rough piece of steak. The waitress was nice but she seemed a little embarrassed to be there ... perhaps she was new. Although it was a Saturday night it was virtually empty with only one other table occupied ... by a similarly unimpressed american couple. When there are so many good places to go don't waste your time or money on this place. Very expensive too given the quality of the food.

This is a lovely Italian restaurant just along the famous Tower Bridge. I have been here before so I took my friends here for dinner. My friends think we hit the jackpot on this one. It has a very quaint ambiance with a homey feel. Italian music pleasantly filled the air which added appeal to our evening. Our charming Italian waiter was the highlight of our evening. He was helpful when we could not make our minds on what to order. He was very knowledgeable with wine recommendations and food pairings. It is the same service one would normally get in a high-class restaurant and we were very impressed. The food was very good quality and portions were generous. One of my friends was raving about her wild mushroom gnocchi and their pizza's are very delicious and perfectly crisp and well balanced with the toppings. The desserts complimented our meal which was too tempting that we all gave in. I hope they would be able to maintain the same standard when we visited. We will definitely come again.

Nice ambience, soft lighting, Italian music in the background all added to the experience. Waiter was exceptional cannot remember his name but was very pleasant and not to mention swift. Didn't have to wait very long for food to arrive at the table. We all had pasta that night which we thoroughly enjoyed. They also have a nice selection of wines. For dessert we had the tiramisu and panacotta. Both of these you must try if dining here. They were totally delicious! Altogether a good experience. Would recommend if in the tower bridge area give them a try. Tower hill station a short scenic walk away.

This restaurant is located right by the Tower Bridge. The decor is nice, the food is very good and fairly priced (for lunch anyway, can't comment for dinner). The only thing I didn't like was being charged for water. The waiter didn't mention a bottle of water, he just asked if I wanted sparkling or plain water. But it might be normal in UK... not sure.I had the bruschetta and it was excellent. The lasagna was different from what I am used too (pasta a bit overcooked to my personnal taste) but still good. However, what sets this restaurant apart is the SUPERB service from the waiter (I am very sorry not to remember his name). He spoke at least three languages (English, Italian and French), he was very attentive to all guests even if he was on his own and he also did his job very well. He took care of not making too much noise while removing plates/silverware (this is a problem nowadays) and you could see him cleaning the tables/chairs with care.

Being very hungry, we stepped in to the first restaurant we spotted after crossing the tower bridge. We all had the three course lunch menu. For starter, I took creamy vegetable soup. It was spicy, yet delicious, but hadn't seen a drop of cream. My main course lasagna was delicious. Homemade pannacotta's texture felt somehow strange, but flavour was good. Drinks were expensive. There wasn't feeding chair available, but there was space on the table in women's toilet to change diaper. No children's menu, but they had little plates to share our portions with the child. The waiter was very friendly and professional. He even gave us advice about the walking routes. Thanks to him, the lunch experience was memorable, and definitely worth the price!

Highly recommended by a friend who celebrated his 25th anniversary at “The Don” on Valentine ’s Day, me self and me wife decide to commemorate our 10th anniversary at “The Don” restaurant either.Very friendly at the reception, we had a table situated at the front corner of the restaurant with a beautiful original paint made by an artist named “David Gainford”.Before we took a sit, we were greeted by the waitress who very kindly asked if we wanted to keep out coats at the cloakroom, than the waiter came with the menus and explain us about the specials of the day and asked if we want to have an aperitif drink, me wife had a peach bellini and me self had the classic negroni (Drinks were served promptly and politely). We order for starters cured meet platter and coconut coated prawns with an amazing thyme and mango salsa sauce. For mains, me wife had Grill salmon served with baby new potatoes and Sautee spinach while me self choose the Rib-eye steak served with classic chips, braised tomato Portobello mushrooms, and pepper-corn sauce. Many thanks to our waiter for being very attentive without disturbing our celebration, but most of all for his recommendations about the wine, served with our starters we had white wine “Gavi di Gavi” and with the mains we had the classic “Amarone 2006”. Once again everything ordered was excellent, they are different enough, yet the energy of the manager and the staff are what makes “The Don” restaurant a great place at the bottom of Tower Bridge. We will come back, and we highly recommend this place to a friend.

Like thousands of others we went to the Tower of London to view the amazing poppies. After fighting the crowds and not being able to move along the river, we decided to head further back towards London bridge station to find food for three adults, a six year old and two four year olds. Browsing the menu outside, we were greeted by the friendly owner and taken inside. The unassuming exterior doesn't do justice to a beautifully modern, comfortable, interior. We chose from the great value lunch menu - £9.95 for two courses or £11.95 for three. Not a wild choice but for a quick choice absolutely perfect. As well as penne a la arrabiata and risotto there's also burger and fish and chips. Our girls wanted pasta so they very kindly made us the sauce without the chillis - perfect and wolfed down by three hungry kids!! The service is a little slow and it does seem that only one guy speaks enough English to take the orders and speak with the customers whilst the others take food to the tables but that guy is helpfulness personified and by the time we were settled the restaurant was full so they had quite a challenge on their hands. It's not fast food but by goodness it's tasty! Overall the food is great value, super tasty and the place is far more friendly than any other restaurant in the centre of tourist land. We came here on a weekend trip to London, to celebrate my daughter's 7th birthday and a visit from family. We had eaten here one time before, and enjoyed good food. The food this time was also delicious, but it was the service that guaranteed return business. It started with the tv, which had closed captioning, which was showing 40 Year Old Virgin. A hilarious movie, but quite inappropriate for 7 and 11 year old girls. When we asked the waiter if they could change it, he was horrified to discover what was being shown and had it sorted immediately. Dinner and wine were delish. After dinner I asked the waiter if he could add a candle to my daughter's dessert. Not only did they do this, but they lowered the lights and came out singing Happy Birthday. This was so sweet and special and she loved it. When we left they gave her the rose on our table, which made the trip home with us and is in her room. Really wonderful evening. Great location, food, wine, service and prices.

Dolce altrettanto buono e tiramisu fatto in casa.

Ate at the Don on the Friday 3/1/14.Its a small family run italian restaurant, located on tower bridge ,London.A very friendly place, good food, excellent service. The lager&beers aren't the cheapest, but it is London ,and a decent wine is around £21per bottle. There is a 10per cent service charge added to the bill, which ain't bad for London. The total bill for our party of four was near enough £160,including lager(peroni) wine and service charge. We all agreed that we would eat there again if we went back to the capital, and I would recommend this place to family & friends.(pre booking is advised).

We ended up where from walking across the Tower Bridge from the Tower of London. The restaurant was quiet but service was a bit slow with only 3 other tables with customers. The food was delicious and very flavorful. The lunch specials are pretty affordable and you have to make sure you tell them you are wanting the lunch special cause you could possible be changed regular price if not. Regular priced items are a bit high.

We stopped in for dinner because it was the first place we saw after crossing the tower bridge. Had we read the reviews first, we may have passed and are glad that we did not. We had the spaghetti and the salmon and spinach. Both were excellent and the service was very good. The restaurant was empty; but it was early.

I've been there with a friend of mine after a quick visit in London bridge. The restaurant was empty, not really inviting and no way elegant. Nobody was on the floor when we popped in. The waiter (no uniform or apron) was sitting in front of a laptop. The food was average, the service very slow and impersonal. We had two pasta dishes absolutely tasteless. When we left the floor was still empty and the chef was talking (Turkish I think ) with the waiter and laughing very loud. The bill was expensive and nobody asked us why we didn't finish our meal. If you really like Italian food run in the opposite direction as fast as you can.

I visited this restaurant, like many people, after a visit to Tower Bridge. It is very close, and much more reasonably priced than many restaurants in the area. However, despite having friendly staff, the food was very slow in coming, despite the place being nearly empty. All 4 of our party had ordered pizza, and the order was mixed up with that from an adjacent table. They were very tough, overcooked, and lacked any tomato sauce. I won't bother going there again!

We had lunch here after a visit to Tower Bridge. It was convenient since the location was just at the end of the bridge.Atmosphere of the place was great. However, we found that the food and service were rather average, nothing special. We ordered clams with double cream, margherita pizza, and spaghetti carbonara. The pasta and pizza tasted just average, but the clams were better.Overall, it was just an average experience.

I arrived in London quite late and was staying on Tower Bridge Road, I took a short walk and stumbled across this restaurant, looks very unassuming from outside and I didn't know what to expect. The restaurant was quite quiet, the staff very attentive. The place is quite small, nice and clean and a mixture of traditional and budget modern.I ordered scallops, calamari and cherry tomato starter, the sea food was cooked to perfection and very tasty.I had spag bol for main course, large portion very tasty. All round a great little restaurant.

Stepping inside from a busy road leading up to the south side of Tower Bridge, this restaurant is a friendly, clean and welcoming oasis. Italian staff (a plus in London) nicely prepared and served Italian food and very attentive service just ticked all the boxes.Lunchtime specials make it extra affordable, especially if visiting London with children.Tip: We lunched there before a visit to the Design Museum which is just around the corner. Will be back.

We decided on The Don partly because of the proximity to our apartment and partly because of mixed reviews. It was ok but not great. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her main course but everything else was just ok, not that fantastic. The service was good and efficient with attention to detail with the filling of glasses etc. I had lasagne which was a little bland. My partner had carbonara - he's fussy about this so I was doubtful. However he didn't send it back and so this was a definite positive! Overall it was a nice evening but I feel the food could have been better but that could be a question of taste.I also never like the addition of service charge which takes away my choice of whether to tip or not.

We visited this restaraunt on a family weekend away. The waitress was very "snippy" I didn't think the service was worth the mandatory 10% tip that was automatically added. The food was average and not worth the money that we paid. I wouldn't visit this restaraunt again!

Myself, husband and daughter recently spent the weekend in London and were looking for somewhere to eat near our Hotel (Tower Bridge) when we found The Don. The decor was beautiful, warm and inviting. We were greeted by a lovely waitress who made us feel totally welcome and took our very wet coats without hesitation. We placed our order and had drinks served promptly and politely. The waitress was so friendly, asking about our stay and making recommendations about the food and really made us feel important. I only wish all waiting staff were as attentive as she was - she should be totally proud of herself. The food arrived and we were more than pleased, the portion sizes were excellent, food piping hot and delicious - highly recommended. The prices were really reasonable for cental London. When we are next in London we will definitely be going back - it was superb.Jan, Steve & Freya Curtis

Given the location of this restaurant by Tower Bridge, it was great to see that the food quality and atmosphere remained that of a small traditional restaurant and not a tourist spot. In particular the goats cheese and peppers stood out as a starter I would recommend!Definitely worth a try.

I went here in Christmas Eve and was very disappointed. I ordered an expensive glass of wine which was the only decent thing I got. The asparagus I had for starters were old and stringy. They were swimming in butter (meant to be), but had so little flavour. I was asked if I wanted pepper and although I said yes, one twist of the grinder and the waiter was off! I wasn't in the mood for making a fuss so I left it. I was amazed at the speed of service. I honestly though it would take longer than 30 seconds from order to delivery of the asparagus ( ok an exaggeration but it wasn't long enough to have cooked them from scratch). The main of penne arabiata was again served within a millisecond of clearing away the starter. It was tasteless and boring. Don't think I will be going back here again.

I was staying locally for a couple of nights in the nearby Premier Inn. The restaurant in the hotel is actually okay - it's not Gordon Ramsay but it's reliable solid food - but I like to eat out when I stay over in London. Having tried the nearby (and excellent) Indian the previous evening I decided to go Italian on the second night. The restaurant looked nice from the outside and it was relatively busy for a Tuesday night. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and a portion of garlic bread, a Peroni and a glass of Merlot. The Peroni was great, the wine tasted like a really cheap French supermarket wine, the garlic bread was just okay and the pizza was the most disappointing. I expected something better than Dominoes. What I got was much worse. It looked and tasted like something that had been bought from the frozen food section in Sainburys. I was starving and I ate every scrap - but there was no enjoyment in it. I didn't complain - I did eat all the pizza after all, but it just wasn't the standard I'd expect from an Italian restaurant. I hadn't checked reviews before I went here and I was quite surprised to see high average ratings. Maybe I was there on an 'off' night. But I won't be back, there are too many other places that I know I will get a good meal in - including the Premier Inn!

We had pasta and garlic bread for our evening meal. The food was lovely and the portion size was generous, the staff were attentive and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The setting is also wonderful, it is right next to Tower Bridge. The price was reasonable for central London too, it cost us about £40 for our two meals, side orders and drinks.

We have used this restaurant a number of times to cater for groups of between 40 and 60 people. Our experience has been first rate on each occasion. The menu offers great variety and is a perfect balance of quality and affordability. The service is friendly, flexible and thoroughly professional.
