Cafe Murano Bermondsey in Southwark

We had a superb brunch on Saturday morning. Not too busy so we stayed for 3 hrs. Special birthday treat from the kitchen. Appropriately attentive staff. Friendly. Great to have the kitchen open. Loved it! Definitely go I’m back again.

Excellent food and great service at this classy local restaurant. Everything I have tasted here is excellent. The cuisine is Italian and made with quality ingredients. There are set menu options with 2 courses or 3 courses, and are great value. The friendly staff Luciano and Neil (host) made sure we were taken care of. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner!

One of my favorite spots for a lovely Sunday lunch. The food is delicious (and as an Italian I am not easy to please) and the staff are friendly and attentive - thanks Gabriel and everyone else for creating such a welcoming atmosphere!

Elegimos el restaurante Bermondsey para la zona y la ubicación a poca distancia de nuestro hotel. Todo sobre Café Murano hizo nuestra noche especial: el servicio era genial, amable y sin pretensiones; la comida excelente (incluyendo opciones vegetarianas / veganas) , el ambiente de nuestro entorno era el lugar. Te darías cuenta si alguna de estas cosas estaba apagada, pero juntas, se combinaron para hacer una noche memorable. Gracias a Matthew y equipo que nos hizo sentir bienvenidos frente a la casa, y a Mikhail (creo) dirigiendo la cocina. Espero volver pronto.

Good service and nice atmosphere. I had set menu for lunch which was reasonable and ok. One of my companions really liked seafood risotto from a la cart menu.

Rude, rude and rude. Just under £500 for 6 people and a waiter that was just rude is not a place I would recommend. Furthermore even though the manager knew that there were issues he still asked about paying the service charge. I'm not expecting a waiter to be all over a customer, but a little politeness and acknowledging you when you ask them for things (and when you are saying please and thank you) is not much to ask. But when the waiter treats you like you are an inconvenience then I we would not go back.

Neil and the whole team were spectacular! Very accommodating and delicious wine list.

I'm gutted. When it first opened it was good, not great but good. As with all AH restaurants the warmth made up for this and you had a great night regardless. Having gone back last night in over a year it was so sad. The cooking is not great. In fact it's poor. As is the service. These are tough times for restaurants and I take no pleasure in leaving a negative review. But right now this is a shadow of its former self.

What a treat. Delicious Italian food, friendly and attentive staff and fairly priced. We were offered the private dining room for my birthday celebrations which made the evening very special and more intimate. A big thank you for making my birthday so special

Really, really poor and disappointing experience as we were a table of 13 who had been promised the pre theatre menu by direct contact with the manager only to be told when we arrived that the pre theatre menu was no longer available. Manager being conveniently absent that day and were told there was nothing to be done so had to take the a la carte menu which was much more expensive. As we were such a big group we would have struggled to get a table on a Saturday elsewhere so had no choice but to stay. Would never go back because of that on top of which service was very poor and apart from the pasta, food very mediocre for the price. VERY, VERY shoddy practice

A lovely restaurant with a bright airy feel, liked the open kitchen and relaxed vibe. We enjoyed our meal and waiting staff were initially attentive and informative. Despite food being very good, no one checked in on us during the service which seems unusual- we may have stayed for coffee or a digestif had it been offered. As we left, no one checked on us- it wasn’t particularly busy. We will most probably come back but hope our observations help you improve service.

A very good restaurant indeed. Like many it has a bit of a modern industrial decor which I found didn't suit the friendly service and Italian comfort food on offer. The Arancini were a very welcome and tasty starter and the quality of the ingredients was high in all courses. There was plenty to choose from on the menu, I enjoyed the risotto and followed it with Panna Cotta. The wine list provides a choice at various price points, too. Service was attentive but not intrusive, just right.

We've had brunch here twice now and tbh it's overrated. £12 for a chicken milenese brioche bun not great. Very small sized Cappuccino without chocolate powder? Staff are attentive, decor pleasant, I can enjoy a permesan chicken in Gail's bakery for half the price and tastes better. May give it a miss next time. Thanks.

A very pleasant experience and amazing food. Very knowledgeable staff - we were served by Mike and he was so lovely and helpful! We had a lovely date night and will definitely be back.

We ended up here by chance and were rather shocked at how much they were charging for such small portions. Waiter completely missed ordering for my daughter so ended up taking ours away again while they cooked hers. We had to ask what several items on the menu were since they used the Italian words to describe them. What is that about ?

Ordered Pesto linguine that tasted nice - pasta texture was on point not over or under and the flavour OK but nothing to write home about. We shared an antipasti/ salad (courgette one) the cooked courgette texture was slightly soggy but the fresh ones were well flavoured. The waiter was friendly but drinks didn't come till after the mains were served. (Think more a reflection of how quick the food was served as opposed to how slow the drinks were) Not clearly labelled vege but vege options available

I have eaten in some great places globally. Not all expensive however this place nailed all aspects of delivery - location/ambience, quality of food, service (super friendly staff). Loved the big airy room and the large windows where we ate facing outwards watching the world go by. It was a wedding anniversary and I had paid in advance for a small cake (pushed the price up per head slightly) - they knew and treated so well on arrival. The cake I ordered was huge! Took most of it home but it was delicous. The pasta was perfectly cooked. I'll be back!

Tuvimos una cena absolutamente deliciosa en Café Murano, el servicio fue fantástico y también la comida. El personal era muy amable y acogedor, ordenándonos con la mesa de esquina perfecta donde nuestro perro podría ser escondido de problemas. Sabrosa pasta y pescado y carne encantadores.

Llegué en una cálida tarde de domingo, y pidió la mesa que da a la calle con las ventanas abiertas. Lugar perfecto para la gente que mira. Un camarero encantador nos compró agua y nos aconsejó sobre nuestras opciones de vino. Excelente servicio , amable y servicial, pero no demasiado. Soy intolerante al gluten por lo que me ayudaron en mi elección, que terminó siendo salmón ahumado y huevos especiados. Tan delicioso 😀. El ambiente es fresco, relajado y muy acogedor. ¡Tanto que tuvimos una segunda botella de vino! Muy razonable precio en general , muy recomendable

Objective quality is only 3/5... The spaghetti putanesca was quite good but can't compare to Flour and Grape. The veal main was so so. Small and slightly overcooked. The dessert vanilla pastry was excellent. 30 pounds for 3 course is decent value 13.5% service charge is excessive. Why is there percentage inflation.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cafe Murano, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience that definitely deserves a 5-star rating! The menu featured a wonderful selection of dishes, and I was particularly taken by the seasonal offerings. What truly stood out was the outstanding service. Matt was incredibly helpful and attentive throughout the meal. He provided thoughtful recommendations and ensured that everything was just right, making the experience feel special and personalized. As for the food, it was absolutely delightful. Each dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavour, leaving a lasting impression. Overall, Cafe Murano exceeded my expectations in every way. Excellent quality and well-priced set lunch. Nice vibe. Friendly waiters but they were pretty stretched and obviously short staffed.

This visit was decidedly average. The arancini starter was nice. However the roast potatoes were swimming in fat and were obviously heated up. None of the fluff we were expecting. They were like little bullets in fat. My porchetta was only warm and the herbs one normally finds rolled up with the meat was slapped on top. The slice of roast fennel on the plate i felt was not sufficient to be classed as 'vegetables'. This plate of food was disappointing.

Underwhelming. Unfortunately, this is yet another Italian restaurant that doesn't cater to Italians. The pastas are just meh, the plaice was the best of the 8 dishes we tried.

This place is a 10/10 all around!

My husband booked this lunch date for us as Cafe Murano popped up on his social media feed. We've usually gone to the St James branch. Sat at the bar counter so we could watch a lot of the food prep, cooking and delivery to customers. Opted for 3-course lunch menu, a bargain at £30. Food was great as expected, service was excellent as appreciated. Jasim was our server extraordinaire and other staff member engaged with us as well, ensuring we were well taken care of. Really couldn't have asked for a nicer time. Strongly recommended.

Gnocchi and pesto linguine were great! Atmosphere 10/10

Arrived as a walk in and was given a small round table in the back of the restaurant. Orders for drinks and food were taken quickly and quickly arrived at our table. We shared the red pepper starter, it was as ok but nothing special. It was quickly cleared away and the mains arrived but we thought they had served us the starter version. I questioned the portion size of the spinach tortelli and was amazed that it was the main size. A tiny amount of pasta chucked on a little flat plate, terrible presentation and the same with the other pasta meal, sausage rigatoni. I have never in all my life eaten such poor quality/portion/ presentation in a restaurant of this supposed quality. The server tried to take my drink away before I had fully finished, we felt like we were rushed. I ordered a glass of house red wine but there wasn’t any left surprisingly so was upgraded to the next wine. The server could sense our disappointment and disappeared and so was presented with the dessert menu by others. The next server hovered and asked what we wanted before having a chance to even look at the menu. We decided the experience was so bad as not to even bother ordering a dessert even though we were both still hungry. In short paid nearly £25 for a plate of pasta that would not look out of place in a school dining room. Bland quality of food served with a splash of arrogance and wasn’t even thanked or acknowledged by the manager when leaving . It came across to us that we were tourists and they couldn’t care less if we came back or not. My local Italian restaurant would blow this place out of the water for food and hospitality. It’s just printing money on the back of a tv chef who I can only think she as bought the Michelin star award herself because never in a million years is this a Michelin star experience, just awful.

Eat here on a regular basis as I have always enjoyed the food and staff. Had lunch recently and ordered the pasta mussel dish, only had 5 mussels and at £26 not value at all.

Impolite and impersonal staff who made no effort to accommodate for an allergy. Food was extremely expensive for small portions. Produce quality was questionable as my tortelli included incredibly gritty spinach. Much better options in close vicinity with significantly better service!

The restaurant was wonderfully spacious and lively. We also enjoyed the friendly and attentive service. Food was fine but nothing to write home about, they also leaned towards greasier flavours.

This was my second time here for lunch. On the previous occasion (pre COVID) I rated it very highly indeed. This time, although the service and atmosphere were as good as before, I felt let down by the food itself, starter ok, main course tiny portions (it was pasta!) and dessert, a tart, with overcooked pastry. This combined with a visit for dinner to a sister restaurant on St James Street (complaints were made at the time) has led me to the sad conclusion that I won't be eating in a Murano's again.

We’ve just visited for an anniversary dinner and it was superb. Having previously eaten at the Mayfair Murano, we loved the idea of the same quality in a less formal setting. Nothing disappointed, fabulous Italian dining and full flavours. It was lovely to sit in the front of this busy restaurant on a hot summer evening with the world wandering by. Our Sardinian waitress Alex was so lovely to us and really knowledgeable on everything available. We were greeted and seated by a very lovely gentleman, who wished us a happy anniversary. That’s exactly what it was, better than we could have hoped for and we’d return in a heartbeat. Thank you Murano

Everything we tried was delicious! We specifically liked the rigatoni with the sausage and the tiramisu. The vibe and the staff were great too! When we asked for a table closer to the window, they were happy to change us table. Bijoy and Alessadra made our experience even better!

Visited this restaurant..the Southwark one ! On entering promised so much but sadly was lacking in many areas the restaurant is nicely decorated and has a huge open kitchen area was quite busy as lunch service just picking up .had lovely table and were looking forward to a lovely lunch ,ordered focaccia to share to start which just came up with a small pot of olive oil ??? Asked the waiter who was smashing by the way if we could have some balsamic vinegar to mix with oil and was told " sorry we have ran out of balsamic vinegar " ??? Really I mean can a restaurant serving Italian food have NO balsamic?!! Anyway the men in our group had the spicy sausage starter which looked hideous with 3 huge sausages plonked on the lentils ...very odd no presentation whatsoever and I had fancy tomatoes on sourdough which were crying out for some balsamic !!!!! Our mains also were really lacking the rabbit pasta had no rabbit and my spinach and ricotta tortelli had no ricotta !!! Just full of spinach ..also mine flooded in sauce and my friends dry ! Dessert was a letdown too a piece of over expensive dry chocolate cake and a meagre portion of cream to try to digest it with ..wine was lovely though and service great .just when we thought oh ok chef having a bad day the meet n greet guy at front walked past holding aloft a huge dog water bowl followed by a couple and a bloody huge dog !!! Really can this be happening ? A renowned chefs restaurant allowing dogs in for god's sake ! We love dogs but this hideous culture of allowing them everywhere surely has to go out of fashion soon .please .also our bill had 2 dishes we had not ordered !! Sadly would not visit again .

Found by chance on a day out. Received a lovely welcome on arrival. Plenty of time given to look at the menu. Ordered chicken milanese with broccoli side and tortellini main and shared between two of us. Food was delicious, chicken milanese one of the best I've had. Would definitely go back. All staff helpful and friendly. Nice atmosphere.

A nice cafe to have good Italian food.

For the price and the Angela Hartnett name, I was expecting so much more. Really poor vegetarian options, don't even think about coming here if you're vegan. All the food was really mediocre. I had the spinach and ricotta stuffed pasta, which came in a brown butter sauce that really did not taste good. I had to ask for olive oil to cover the taste. The broccoli was watery, i make it better myself at home. The bread was nice. Will never come here again. £25 for a pasta dish - with no meat? Better off going Franco Manca up the road and having a nice pizza

We went for brunch however I do not recommend the banana pancakes - we expected them to be pancakes made using bananas, instead we got 2 very flat flavourless pancakes with a few slices of banana on top and a small drizzle of maple syrup. This was I believe the only vegan option on the menu too (we aren’t vegan and only realised the pancakes were after - alas that is no excuse). We ended up ordering an additional dish to share (sausage and lentils - which was nice, lentils were a bit watery) as we were still hungry. Service was good and they were helpful when we noticed something wrong with the bill but I don’t think we will go back for brunch in a hurry.

Excellent Italian cuisine! We dined at this restaurant we found by chance and the food is good quality (I am Italian), the place is neat and the service is attentive. A note to practice for the service of Alessandra, kind, smiles, attentive and professional. I recommend this London restaurant with Italy on the dishes!

We found this place by chance. We chose 3 course menu paired with red house wine. The food is extremely delicious and the staff are so friendly. We felt like as if we were hosted by an Italian family. Blood orange with sorbet is our one of our favourites.

We arrived late in the evening, as soon as we entered we were welcomed with great enthusiasm by an Italian waitress from Sardinia named Alessandra, with her sweet personality she made us feel at ease, she advised us what to eat, and gave us also information on how to get around London on your own. The restaurant ambience and staff were at a high level, however the quality and quantity did not match. The braided rabbit pappardelle and spinach & ricotta tortelli were really bland and watery, plus the large portion 8/ not filling enough without starter or secondi. The antipasti and sausage ragu rigatoni were much better. Also one of our party was vegan and they only have one vegan option for main (salad) and dessert (sorbet).

I didn't enjoy the restaurant; the website and the ambience of the restaurant is actually flashier than than the food. I had the rabbit pappardelle to start which was quite good, no complaints at all. The main I ordered was the gurnard in a spicy chickpea stew: this was no better than an average canteen, but please allow me to explain. First, what came were not chickpeas, but white cannellini beans. This is fine in theory, but I would have like to have been told that this was a substitution as I ordered as I might have changed my choice (I was inspired by the Ligurian concept of a fish like a gurnard or red mullet with chickpeas, but it was not to be). Second, the fish itself was tough, and not because gurnard is firm-fleshed, but it was overcooked, off-the-bone, and not scaled properly, hence amateur. Maybe I should have known better and just not order unpopular fish in London ever, but it was £28....

Love the Pappardelle with slow braised rabbit and taggiasca olives. It went well with the white wine (2022 Lugana ‘I Frati’, Ca’ del Frati’, Lombardia) recommended by the waiter. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prompt in service too. vibes. We had a lovely evening

What a disappointment… I think this place rely on the image of the owner and the location to get customers, would be curious to know how many return. The food quality is shocking not even talking about the price tag… We ordered the seafood pasta and the beef shin pasta. Both plates of food weren’t seasoned and tasteless… one was overcooked and the other rock hard. The beef had big chunks of fat and I am suspicious that the seafood was frozen. They did offer to replace the rock hard pasta tbf (20min after we started and were basically ready to go at that point) and brought us a plate of tiramisu (which was ok!) when we declined. Tbh at this point we just wanted to leave and didn’t want another plate, it was just not good…

Excellent service from the minute one arrives. The decor is top notch and the staff uniforms are crisp, clean and elegant. The menu is tight without numerous options and reasonably priced given the location. The actual food, however leaves much to be desired. Having ordered banana pancakes with maple syrup, bacon and a bloody mary, I was left disappointed. The bacon was top notch and cooked perfectly, but the pancakes were not made with bananas (only sliced on top) and were flat and dry. I am not sure they out more that a spritz of maple syrup on them. The bloody mary was dull and had little to no alcohol, no horseradish and sour tomato juice.

The food and atmosphere, as always, were fantastic. The service was at times slightly slow but we weren’t in a huge rush so it wasn’t a problem. Aside from this though, the waiting staff were very helpful and friendly.

Two dishes on menu off at Monday lunch. One was tortellini dish the other fish..... The staff and MD always efficient and friendly and the restaurant is comfortable and well designed. Great restaurant. We had the roast lamb which was delicious. You get alot of food for your money too whilst it's still of a very high quality. Would definately visit again.

I was at Cafe Murano for one of their book club evenings, arranged as a marvellous surprise by my daughter. Bee Wilson was talking about her book, The Secret of Cooking, and the chefs prepared some of the recipes from it for us to enjoy. A wonderful, warm and lovely evening which was a real pleasure. Angela Hartnett was also in the kitchen which made it even more special.

A Bermondsey gem. Often crowded- for a reason. Great place to share a few pastas but also don’t skip the chicken Milanese.

Neal at the host stand is an absolute ANGEL! This is my 2nd time dining here solo and they are the BEST!

The service was impeccable and so attentive, sadly the food was startlingly bland, dull and vastly overpriced. A chicken escalope at £25 was simply nowhere near worth that ridiculous price.. The place itself felt like a sterile hotel lobby. They're going to have to try harder to get any return custom or last. I'll give it one year.

Our second visit and this time not so good. Still great fun and good food, but with different service that seemed rushed and clumsy (lots of wine spillage etc) and lacking in personality and food that was just not as well presented (Hake undercooked and watery). And an uncontrolled dog (and we are dog friendly). Still great, but perhaps depends on the night.

This is a truly wonderful restaurant. We had a spectacular four course meal for lunch. All of the ingredients sung off the plate, the cooking was phenomenal and you get to watch the kitchen the entire time. The wine was delicious and complimented everything beautifully. I’ve been to some single star Michelin restaurants which have faired worse than this. My husband raved about the tortellini and the veal was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. But the very best thing about this place was the service. It was faultless. Giuseppe (from the Mayfair branch) was a wonderful waiter who was fun, happy, made excellent recommendations on food and wine and made the whole meal a complete joy. The rest of the staff were also attentive and kind but you need to give this guy a pay rise.

Lovely staff but sadly let down by the food - over cooked chicken - they were apologetic. And therefore feels over priced in relation to the quality of food.

RACIST RESTAURANT. Me and my friends went into the place for walk in as half of the tables are emptied. The waiter told us that the restaurant is full until the end of night with a weird smirk. Later on we checked online that there are so many booking vacancies on the same day, at the same time.

Called into Cafe Murano for a Saturday lunchtime meal with my wife, my nephew and his wife plus their dog, Dottie - a dog friendly place was a prerequisite. The restaurant is located in Bermondsey Street, only a short walk from London Bridge station. The street was buzzing with shops, cafes, art galleries and restaurants. We were shown to one of their booths. ordered drinks and Dottie was offered a bowl of water too. The only slight negative was that there was no alcohol free beer or lager despite it being dry-January - there were some alternative “mock tail” type drinks but we opted for Coke. The meals were excellent - between us we choose Tagliatelle with braised beef shin, two portions of Lamb shoulder stew with tarragon dumplings and one portion of rigatoni carbonara plus a starter portion of this dish too and a side of roast potatoes. All the meals were excellent. We had two desserts: one portion of apple strudel and vanilla cream and one of Beenleigh blue cheese, fig chutney and fennel biscuits. The pastry on the strudel was divine, as was the apple filling as were the fennel biscuits. All in all it was a very enjoyable meal. The bill for four came to £152 which included an £18 service charge. Definitely worth a visit.

Lively and busy restaurant with a Tiramisu that I highly recommend. The service is friendly thanks for having us. Recommend booking in the evenings for sure as it gets busy promptly for rush hour. In summer it's a nice spot as the front opens up with it's big glass panels. The restaurant is really sleek.

Absolutely great from start to finish. Friendly service, excellent food and a fun venue. And it is even dog friendly ! We had sea bream crudo, roast pumpkin and beetroot salad, beef tagliatelle, and perhaps the highlight, hake with lentils and black truffle. Order the arancini with a cocktail to start and you will not be disappointed. Book ahead if you can.

NYE lunch here was very celebratory and enjoyable. Ambience was very cheery and the service we received was outstanding by Diana who by the end of our meal was more like a friend! We felt very welcome. The menu read very well. The pork Sunday roast with roasted potatoes, kale, buttered roasted carrots and a scrumptious apple date sauce hit the “spot”. I would’ve preferred the pork slices to be a wee bit more moist/juicy but the crispy snappy crackling made up for it. We’d also ordered chicken Milanese which was as expected - good. The baby rocket with Parmesan that covered the breadcrumbed chicken escalope was even better. I’d recommend the appetisers/starters - burrata slathered in olive oil with artichoke purée and the small antipasti plate was perfectly curated. The servings were beautifully laid out in each plate and that matters as the eyes then the nose and lastly the mouth “eats” so full marks there. Not as criticism but a suggestion: bread and extra virgin olive oil needs to be on the table complimentary for such an accomplished restaurant. We’ve already planned another visit and couldn’t recommend it more to everyone we meet. Ask for Diana please as she made our entire meal and time there festive, special and super personalised. Mwah!
