TERRIBLE. Tiny, cold portions of 'medium' fish, small must be the size of a fish finger.

Only popped in here as I was doing some work nearby and wanted something quick for lunch. Check out the colour on those chips,a lot of chippies could learn from these guys, these were cooked to perfection not those crappy albino chips that other places serve you cause they’re too busy to wait for the chips to cook properly these were properly done. That goes for the battered sausage too nice crisp batter, this was a small portion too so plenty for a lunch. Cannot recommend enough, can’t wait until I need to return to Exeter to service that equipment again as it’ll mean I can dive in here again!

Ordered small cod + chips with scampi, and they gave us onion rings instead of scampi. Unacceptable and will not be going back !! Saw someone else complain while we were waiting, should have taken the hint.

Delicious hot food but the young man serving wasn't paying attention, it wasn't busy, we were the only ones in the queue, he missed two things off our order and it had to be cooked again, disappointed

Really disappointed. The chips were not really chippy chips and the fish had bones in it.

The food and the people are nice but selling vapes right next to the food gives off a gross unappealing vibe. What has vaping got to do with fish and chips?

I got a regular chips and gravy and it was great! Brilliant chips, fresh and the gravy was the perfect consistency too. The staff were friendly and the meal was cheap. 5*

best chip butty in exeter. changed owners about a year ago, much better since then. best chippy in town except for that one on south street with the stools in the windows.

Used to love this fish n chips shop. However of late a large Cod isn't. Real shame as we would go at least once a week. As the photo shows, if this is large, I hate to think what regular or small is. No one likes being ripped off. We would recommend this fish n chips shop to others, now we would advise to avoid.

Disgusting food.. Fish clearly cooked from frozen, making batter soggy.. Chips undercooked and hard... Watery curry sauce.. This has to be the worst chippy in Exeter.. Avoid at all costs.. Will be reporting to EHO!!

This place can barely cook chips properly. Always hard, overpriced, but they sell vapes! It used to be good years ago but after new ownership it's one of the worst fish and chip places I've gone to. Large cod £8 that's the size of a fish finger. Go to south Street if you're going to get fish and chips in Exeter. So much better it's ridiculous

Order often via uber eats, which is exceptionally quick. Food is standard price. Portions are good. Sausage and fish are both good as are the chips. The only issue is burgers are not good - greasy, taste nothing like a burger and slightly let down.

Great fish n chips, been here a couple times now and am yet to be disappointed - fast service , nice food and great options. Only thing is I'd say its a little expensive but I haven't found anywhere better local to this area

It's ok but it's not good what it used to be and chips always seems to be cold and the potatoes they used don't seem to go brown like some English takeaway i be to and they use takeaway boxes and i do prefer chips paper not takeaway boxes. I do find that chips paper do stay hotter a lots more longer than the takeaway boxes.

We went along on Saturday the staff where lovely the food was good. Only thing was they don't do pea fritters anymore. 😕

I only ever order fish and chips from here. Always lovely crispy batter, lovely chips and fish is really good. Highly recommended

Went here for a cheeky takeaway - Scampi, Onion Rings and a Battered Sausage cost me £7.50 or so but I have to say the Onion Rings were top tier and the Scampi was pretty good too. Some items on the menu did seem overpriced however, yet I would go again to try the fish and chips.

Usually excellent freshly cooked fish n chips. Tonight, chips were reheated, two different colours and some uncooked. The batter on the cod had been recooked as tough to eat, and rock hard . Such a shame....perhaps a bad night ?

I ordered a medium fish and chips through deliveroo and the food arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. The fish was lovely, fresh and hot although on the small side for a medium size. The chips were not so great, they were barely lukewarm and tasted like they've been sat there for a while. Again the portion size for a medium meal was not great.

The Clock Tower Fish Bar is our number one choice when looking at a chippy for tea. They are consistently accurate with the orders we place for delivery, and their food is great.

Never again!!!! Very expensive and not tasty at all plus chips very grease, curry souse average. Again paid nearly £12 for food l didn't like it. For that money you go to good restaurants

I came in there was a young man behind the counter playing with his phone. He started to serve me without washing his hands. Yuk. I walked out again. Disgusting practice. There’s always something to do when running a shop. Bad for image of the shop. Still the boss doesn’t give a toss why should I. Won’t come back.

Got in store, half an hour after they opened, the burger was luke warm (chips were also cold) put into a cold bun with a unmelted sad cheese slice that was half the size of the burger. It all tasted horrible. And then I was charged £4 for it. Took one bite of the patty and threw it away, super dissapponted!

This is the worst 'Fish n chips' in Exeter. They should rename to "salty soggy batter n more salt". I ordered via deliveroo, and to no avail I discover that my battered saussage was soggy, and my food had been piled up with gram after gram of salt! The inner lid of the chips was coated in a thick layer of salt, there was no way this was by accident! It was inedible! I could litterally feel my teeth crunch and grind because of the ridiculous amount of salt on my chips. I am still trying to get the taste of salt out of my mouth after having just a couple of mouthfuls. The person that thought it would be funny to put a mountain of salt on my meal should be fired!

Good food, great price. It's not gourmet, but it's still more than good enough and for the price it's brilliant. At time of writing I can go in and get some decent chips and popcorn chicken for less than the price some places charge for delivery, what's not to like. I think they do delivery too, and the charge isn't high.

Probably the best fish and chips I have ever had. Reasonably priced and with deliveroo from order to home was less than half an hour. Highly recommended and delicious fish and chips

Ever again. Service was slow. Chips not fresh and overcooked. Half way through my order a just eat driver came in for a takeaway and the person behind the counter stopped my order mid way through and started to do the takeaway order!!!! Also they seemed to have ran out of mushy peas! A chip shop at 6pm in the evening serving stale chips and no mushy peas!!! They were stone cold. I had to heat them up at home. I think they must have just opened the can of peas and not even heated them up. Dreadful stuff and won’t waste my time or money again

Chips are great, the rest of the food is average. What does really annoy me is how often I get overcharged. Used to think the menu prices were wrong but mostly it's just not listening. You ask for a little salt, you get way too much. Been charged for large chips and given small, paid for and been given sausages I never ordered, and just today I bought a pea fritter and chips which should've been £3.10 but was told it was £3.55? Just be wary of how much you're being charged. In all fairness, they realised after I questioned it but couldn't issue a refund for the difference so had to settle for ketchup.

Ordered my food via Just Eat at 4pm for delivery at 6pm. Didn't arrive, so rang restaurant at 6:40pm only to be told "nothing to do with us, the driver hasn't arrived, try ringing Just Eat!". Contacted Just Eat via their website immediately and after several attempts to get their "customer services rep" (and I use this name hesitantly) to commit to a delivery time, she told me to expect my food on or before 7:10pm. Didn't arrive. Time was changed on screen to 8:00pm by Just Eat. Food eventually arrived at 8:15pm. Food, not surprisingly, was cold. Was advised by the driver that because I don't live in the centre of town, my order would not have been first choice for a driver because they only get £4.00 per delivery and may have been "cancelled" by earlier driver(s). I live about 1.5 miles from the restaurant. Can't tell whether the food would have been good because it was so cold. Having used this restaurant previously, I suspect it would have been. Finally, I think, £14.10 for one cold fish, chips and curry sauce that arrived two and a quarter hours late is very, very poor. I used the service because I am a wheelchair user, but never again.

The food was okay, The battered mars bar was quite expensive, the person serving seemed as though they didn't want to be there and they wanted everybody to know that.

Toen we binnenkwamen hadden we onze bedenkingen. De oudere mevrouw achter de toonbank ook. Ze hielp ons correct, maar enigszins de kat uit de boom kijkend. Mijn vrouw bestelde een kleine kabeljauw en dito chips en ik van beide een normale portie. Ik had de chips met salt and vinegar en die van mijn vrouw waren 'plain'. We kregen ons eten geserveerd in een nette kartonnen vouwdoos, die je ook kunt gebruiken om de bestelling mee naar huis te nemen. Vanaf de eerste hap was het verrukkelijk. De chips waren lekker knapperig en heel goed van smaak. Ik heb nog geen versere kabeljauwfilet geproefd en hij was heerlijk gepaneerd en gebakken. Intussen kwamen diverse vaste klanten binnen, voornamelijk om hun eten mee te nemen naar huis. Het publiek was een kleurrijke bloemlezing uit alle lagen van de Britse bevolking. Op zich al de moeite waard. Toen we alles op hadden en vroegen waar we het afval konden laten, was het de mevrouw achter de toonbank intussen ook ontdooid, want ze was ineens een stuk vriendelijker.

Excellent food, very friendly staff. Prompt and on time delivery. I highly recommend and will be ordering again.

Delicious, fish cooked fresh for me! Chips were a bit cold but flavoursome and not too oily. Scampi was lovely and we had a battered sausage too which was covered in crispy batter and very tasty. Menu has changed since last the photo of it, and is now marginally more expensive.

They ‘may’ use sustainably sourced fish but positives end there. The portions are getting smaller despite it being one of the dearest in the area, the batter is soggy and the chips are often small and scrappy. The curry sauce is watery and barely any recognisable amounts of spiciness. Service is invariably slow even when there are only a few people waiting. Even at busy times the owner doesn’t even think of batch cooking fish even though he must be aware that he going to sell a minimum amount and instead doesn’t cook fish until someone orders. Baffling how this place stays in business.

I seriously cannot believe some peoples reviews,the chips are never burnt it's impossible to burn them when the fryer is constantly watching them fry and loads them into the chip box,the oil is filtered every day and changed frequently, people go in asking for full refunds when they've ate mostly all the food,do people think companies can afford to just give food away without a good enough reason.

I have been a customer here on a off for the last few years but lately the quality has really gone down. The Chips can be held after cooking for too long and become soggy, the portion size of the chips has also gone down. There is a good selection and its not overly expensive, and there arnt many better chip shops around in Exeter to be fair. The service his hit and miss, the older man who cooks can be very rude to the other staff working him and a general bully which is off putting

Cheap and cheerful - just what you want from a chippy. And it's close enough to St David's station that you can walk down the hill and sit on the drafty cold platform for your inevitably delayed train and still munch on warm food.

My husband and I walked a long way through Exeter this Friday evening(7th Sept) to buy chips from the Clocktower chip shop as it was meant to be one of the best fish and chip shops in Exeter. When we started to eat our chips we realised that they were not at all hot but, disappointingly, barely warm and so returned them within a few minutes. We were given replacements which we quickly discovered were from the exact same batch and were also barely warm! When I returned mine for the second time the fryer said” what do you want me to do- cook some fresh ones?” To which I answered “yes please!” Of course I was prepared to wait the few minutes it took to cook them.

Food was very fast, but that's already a worrying sign at a chippy, and I worried correctly: speed was the only positive. Batter was okay, bit lots of it, and both fish and chips had been kept warm for quite a while. Fish was a bit mushy, chips were pretty dried up and grey (with more black bits from presumably low grade potatoes), and there was clearly that chemical/ransid taste of dirty fat that should have been changed at least a week ago. Will definitely be trying somewhere else next time.

Overall a nice chippy, food is never very greasy, oil is changed daily, the young staff on lately are a little bit snooty, a little overpriced for the portion sizes, curry sauce is tiny, large chips are not a large portion and the large fish is small for a large portion. But it does taste good. Maybe it is the location that drives the menu prices 10-20% up compared to the other good chippy's locally. But as a few other reviews have said, the portions are tight and that's a fact.

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had (and that’s a lot...)! Better for take out, though, because everything is freshly made (-> smelly because of frying...). If you are near (or far...), go taste it!

Nicely cooked fresh fish and chips, good portions sizes and clean inside. However the service was shocking. I can only guess the server was new as it took ages for her to take the order, and then managed still to nearly miss the fish.

Lo recomendaría si ha estado en una tienda y no quiere cocinar, probablemente sea bueno en el verano con el parque cercano. El personal es joven pero muy entusiasta y está dispuesto a ayudar. No he visto tal racismo en Exeter antes. Hace unas horas, fui a comer hamburguesas de pollo de ese lugar. La camarera era muy grosera y antipática. Todas sus actitudes eran tan racistas. Todavía intenté ser tranquilo y agradable, pero ella insistía con sus acciones irrespetuosas. Luego, la reclamé a otro empleado (afirmó que era el gerente de línea), pero él era el mismo. Best chip shop there is! The owner is a genuinely nice friendly guy, freshly cooked food is a bonus and worth a short wait. Chips are always plentyful, and if there’s something you want and he’s got it, he will cook it for you, even batter it for you. I know this as this is the only chip shop that I can go in and ask for a battered fishcake. That alone is worth the 5 stars.

Returned to Exeter to watch Mansfield Town , back to the Clock Tower chippy, great chippy , great fish and chips , good banter with the proprietor. come on good people of Exeter you do not know what you are missing.

No, we were in no hurry and it was nice to note whilst waiting how clean it was behind the counter, but the service neither one thing or the other. The Cod was fine, so too was the price paid if only the chips had been any good, cold and many of them black denoting a poor quality of potato being used, overall not a good experience and when back in Exeter again will not be making a return visit, room for vast improvement of both the chips and the service levels.

Varying quality of batter, sometimes too thick, sometimes overly greasy. Average chips, there are much better chippies in Exeter unfortunately.

Llamó recto y pedimos un almuerzo grupo desde aquí para siete personas. Tuve el abadejo, que era muy fresca y sabrosa, con golden, masa crujiente, y las patatas fritas eran impecable. Salsa de curry también era agradable. Buen tamaño de la porción y el precio era muy razonable. Sin duda, usar este para llevar de nuevo.

Probably the worst chip shop I've been to. Chips were just like eating potatoes that had just been dug up and cooked. Seen bricks that weren't as hard. And the sausage was pure gristle 💩👎🏻

Thankfully taken over in August 2016, the old owners were so stuck up I hated going in there. New owners much more friendly and accommodating. I ordered a lightly cooked and battered cod today and it was perfect, the chips are brilliant as are the home made mushy peas.

It may of been that I timed it right and the fish and chips had just been freshly cooked, but it was delicious. So based on my my visit to this place I have to give them a 5. I'll certainly be back and hope it's as tasty as before.
