It is quite a busy, and therefore noisy, place to stay. But very comfortable and good enough WiFi for me to just put in earphones and stream music

Hands down 1 of the areas most hidden gems..The pizza and pasta were absolutely amazing I honestly can't believe that we are lucky enough to have tried this place.ive eaten in Italian food restraunts from new York to Italy and this place lives up to true authentic food I will definitely be back

Rooms are clean ! I highly recommend the pizzas, the best pizzas I have had in the UK so far ! Thank you to the chef for that !

This a fantastic pub, whether you are meeting friends for a few drinks, having a good meal or having a party. We booked the Garden Room for my Dad's 90th birthday, the food was delicious and plentiful and the staff were very helpful. (I've not stayed at the pub so cannot comment on the rooms.)

I was watching the football on the screen by the bar .I was with 5 friends. One of my friends noticed the manager staring at him and then he eventually asks my friend if we could quieten down as there was a children's party near us We were not screaming our heads of or shouting. The kids who were all under 5 were actually making more noise and running around like it was a play centre. The TV volume which wasn't actually loud in the first place was turned down and when asked bar staff to turn it up slightly they refused as the Children's party would be able to hear it. The dolphin has private function rooms so why wasn't the party held in there ? The reason why was because the children would not be able to run around . I think the manager needs to remind himself that the pub area is not a children's playground

Great location and quick service.

The Dolphin is a traditional pub in Newbury walking distance from the railway station and the centre of town. Serves a nice pint. Real ale and lager available and there is a good choice. Food is available, but I haven't eaten here so I'm not able to review the food. Rooms available. Present music in the background.

Stayed here for couple of nights during Christmas holidays. Staff were super friendly but just a few observations that would have made my stay more enjoyable. The breakfast room was quite cold when we came down at about 9am. We were the only guests at that time and the cleaning lady kindly arranged to have the heating turned up. The chef turned up shortly after and offered to cook eggs for us which we eagerly accepted as it took some time for the room to heat up. We noticed there was a tv screen but no remote to switch it on so the atmosphere was a little too quiet considering it was the Christmas holidays. On the second morning, again the room was cold and we were joined by a second couple but still the atmosphere was too quiet. The heating was not turned up this time. As for the room itself, the bed was very comfortable, kettle with tea and coffee were provided. However, I found there was limited shelf space in the bathroom and I couldn’t keep all my toiletries in there. A box of facial tissues in the room would have been useful. Free car park was a bonus. However, not sure I will stay here again but can’t fault the friendliness of the staff.

Such a lovely place to spend with friends on Boxing Day. Food was delicious - as always. Service was fabulous - as always. Cannot recommend enough.

We visited the Dolphin for Christmas Lunch. 28 people attended. The food was delicious and the team were able to cater for various dietary requirements. The service was also excellent. We would definitely choose this venue again for a future event.

Food was good, my plate was stone cold and dirty on the edges. At 2120 we were told to pay as the “tabs” were being closed. This is a Friday evening. We hadn’t had a chance to order pudding and so that didn’t happen. We were asked by the fella clearing the table if we could stack our plates and pass him the empty glasses while he stood still, we laughed at this and imagined a conversation backstage about how we never left a tip. Well, your tip was non-existent, like our pudding! Out of kindness to my boss who arranged the evening, I didn’t say a word to save them from feeling bad about their choice.

Lovely pub with a real variety of food on offer including pizzas with an original pizza oven flown in from Italy. There is pork belly, salmon and carbonara which all tasted lovely. The staff here are attentive and the atmosphere amongst each room is very pleasant. We rented out a space for a birthday which went very well - thank you!

Can recommend the fish & chip ciabatta sandwich, very delicious and plenty of it - good price too 👍

Had a really good roast here, so tasty and lovely service, really nice atmosphere

We stayed one night and the room was quite basic but tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. Nice towels and a modern bathroom. Our evening meal was variable as the starter and desserts were excellent but the main course was disappointing. The Continental Breakfast provided was impressive. Room and food prices are good value but beer and, in particular wine was expensive as at London levels. Staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient.

Absolutely lovely tasty Sunday roast, it’s difficult to get a decent Sunday roast nowadays but the chefs at the dolphin have managed it, sampled both the chicken and the beef and lovely cauliflower cheese. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. Really enjoyed the experience and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Thank you.

We booked a table for 4 for lunch on saturday. The meals were cooked perfectly and served promptly by 3 friendly members of staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. I thoroughly recommend this hotel

First time in The Dolphin. The service was nice and friendly. The food was great (cheese board was particularly impressive) and the price of the drinks was on par with local bars. There is an added bonus of free parking at the back but remember to register your car in the pub.

Came in with my family, as we often do, as now one of our favourite lunch time places to eat! Really lovely pub, beautifully decorated and spacious. Superb, excellent quality food. I had a vegetarian artisanal pizza which was absolutely superb! Dog friendly / the lovely manageress volunteered a water bowl and a yummy selection of treats for my cocker spaniel.

The new owners and team just keep on getting better, they've now added an amazing pizza menu. We are going to work our way through the entire menu! Thank you

We have become regulars at the Dolphin and the service we receive is 2nd to none. All the team are so warm and friendly. With regards to the food, I have never had bad food here. The pork belly is amazing… had it twice. The fish and chips is equally as good. Couldn’t recommend this place more. Bravo! Keep up the good work! ☺️

Deceptive pub from outside, very nice inside. Cheerful, friendly staff and nice decor in the bar area. Lovely dining room and the menu is inviting but yet to try, just down to our timing. Beer garden with huts and a private car park.

We held our son’s 30th Birthday celebration at The Dolphin where the team were great from beginning to end. We held the party in the room at the back of the pub which opens out to a covered patio. Great for the 40+ people who came. The food was brilliant, many thanks to the kitchen team. Everyone who came commented on how good the venue was. Thanks to all the team at The Dolphin.

Great place with good beer, their beer garden is nice in the summer too.

We stopped here for a family meal on our way home from up north by chance . The meal was lovely , service great and very friendly. Nothing was to much trouble , grandchildren and mutt were made very well

We used the conservatory room in the dolphin on Saturday for a baby shower! The staff were extremely accommodating, very kind and helpful! It was the perfect venue! Highly recommend!

Quiet for a Sunday lunchtime. Great Sunday lunch. Beef was beautiful Veggie Wellington was good too. Four clean plates were left. Staff friendly

This hotel is basically a pub with 4 or 5 rooms above that they rent out – very cool! The room was very cute, clean and had everything we needed. The staff we encountered were very cheery and friendly. The complimentary breakfast was self-serve and while not hot, had a good assortment of food choices/items. Bed was comfortable and as it was mid-week, the pub wasn’t open late, so we had a great sleep that night! Highly recommended!

We hosted a party for our baby at the Dolphin Newbury and it was excellent from start to finish, the staff were so flexible and accommodating, the venue was perfect, food was great and everyone had such a great time! We would reccomend to anyone!

I have been to The Dolphin several times for the quiz which is excellent, as are the bar staff. In the past the highlight of the evening has been the food but not so on this occasion. The menu has changed as the pub is under new management. I chose fish and chips, the fish was ok and the chips were plentiful but not hot, the crushed peas were cold and what was described as tartare sauce was thin and runny (it is not usually a pouring sauce!). My friends had chicken and leek pie which was very good, it came with mash but no vegetables such as garden peas. All in all we were disappointed with our food on this occasion and hope it improves.

Could not find the parking. The menu was very limited due to issues with the ovens. So burger with roast potatoes or roast dinner. Not sure why could not do chips with the burger as thought they are fried as not roast potatoes and burger.

Came for Sunday lunch. Food was poor. Luke warm & not enough. Two small roast potatoes, two parsnip chips. Meat (beef very chewy and chicken dry). Red & green cabbage. Horseradish sauce nice but no cranberry. Very poor value for money. Puddings excellent & staff amazing. Couldn’t find car park so added cost in Kennet Centre. Extremely poor value for money. Six people that won’t return. Shame as was recommended.

We arrived on Friday night for our booked table to a look of confusion… not really sure why and not a very warm welcome at all. Gave up waiting for someone to give us a menu so went and got one ourselves. Not very clear as to whether we order at the bar or not, so ordered at the bar as we guess we had been forgotten about. When the meal came we asked for napkins but were told there wasn’t any left… we suggested maybe going out back and finding some?! Is a napkin too much to ask for?! Food was just edible. Mostly over cooked. Gammon undercooked. Won’t be back

A lovely venue, superb bar staff with a great selection of drinks. There is different sections to the pub which is fantastic for different occasions. The pub itself was busy with a great vibe and there was a quieter dining room at the back which I sat in and was lovely. Is definitely one of my favourites in Newbury!

An excellent and popular pub in the centre of Newbury, a bustling, thriving town. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was warm and comfortable with crisp linen and good TV and a lovely hot shower.

I’ve been going to this pub for years, however will not go back. The manager was terribly rude. She is the most in welcoming person I’ve ever had to deal with in Newbury.

Went with my mum for Sunday lunch. It’s the best I’ve found in Newbury so far and not as pricey as most. The service was efficient and the staff -especially the manager, she went above and beyond- were great. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Not great at all. We chose the location as it was central to our family homes. The meal for 12 people was booked in advance and pre-orders made as requested. But. The room we were assigned was really cold, the staff were mostly non-existent - we had to clear the table ourselves - some of the meals were over-done and others not warm. Many of the drinks listed were not available and we felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff.

We had booked out the garden room for a wedding reception. It was a fantastic space and we and our guests were super impressed with the quality of the buffet food we ordered. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a great time

A Christmas 'party' at The Dolphin promised fun and a Christmassy vibe according to the spectacular advertising. So, I booked lunch for twelve and requested a lego competition as advertised, to add a bit more fun to the mix. We had lunch, with some confusion over the Gluten Free option, which I had rigorously stressed when booking. Luckily we asked if a dish was Gluten Free - to which the waitress did not know - so she returned to the kitchen to find out. She then returned with the 'correct' dish (although we were not convinced!) When I asked about the lego competition, I was pointed into the direction of an old lego box in the 'toy corner' and told to help myself! So, in a nutshell, we were rather deflated and disappointed by our Christmas lunch experience at The Dolphin.

Works Christmas bash, Service, food and atmosphere were very good! Like the way service charge is only applied to the food! (v fair) I don't usually opt for fish but on this occasion was outstanding and cheeseboard was very good value for size received. Everyone happy and definitely recommendable

It's a great local smart pub. I can't comment on the rooms. Two good ales. Unfortunately the Bath Gem was well off last time. But is usually good. A nice interior. Trendy popular place. Great for meeting friends

We got married here in the summer and we keep coming back which says everything. The whole team are so lovely and in particular Charlotte who does an amazing job and makes us feel welcome every time we are here. In addition to the exceptional service, the food is wonderful and the drinks prices are competitive. Thank you everyone at the dolphin for a year we will never forget!

Lovely Christmas meal and fantastic service. Had booked for an early meal and we fully enjoyed it. Great atmosphere too and when we left it was busy busy.

Chez was brilliant when booking. We booked a family meal for 17 people including 4 children. The food was average. I had stuffed chicken breast which came with mash. It was very nice but had no veg or anything with it. They didn’t look particularly busy but the food came out a in drive and drabs.

Recently hosted a baby shower at The Dolphin, staff were really helpful and accommodating, food was good and the room was lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing food and friendly staff! The Sunday roast dinner was really tasty and generous. Excellent Yorkshire pudding. I was surprised it was so empty when the food was so good. The beer garden was perfect for a sunny day.

Stayed here for one night. Bedroom and bathroom were clean and quiet. Breakfast is help-yourself continental. Nice play to stay.

This is a terrible hotel to stay in avoid it we stayed on the 20th sept and it was terrible the blind in the bedroom was broken and it was dirty and very noisy the pillows were awful not sheets just a heavy quilt

We had a Quantel reunion celebrating 50 years since the company formation. About 100 old colleagues and their partners attended and we had a great time. The Dolphin provided a great space and facilities for us and kept us all lubricated. Thanks to the team!

For meeting friends or for a nice pub meal, this is my preferred pub in Newbury. I have booked the Garden Room and Fishtank for larger groups and it's always worked very well.

As occasional Newbury visitors we like this pub. It is friendly with a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, on this visit there were no dark ales for me.
