Cote Brasserie - Newbury in West Berkshire

Ignored for the first 20 mins , steak and fries should be called fat and fries, no table etiquette from the staff . Very disappointing, had many a meal here with excellent service, perhaps just a night

We went for our 25th wedding anniversary and were very disappointed. We were there 20 minutes and had to ask to order a drink. Service poor. So sad as have always had great service.

Booked my Mums 70th Brunch, they kindly let us have the upstairs to ourselves . Adam & Alex were absolutely fabulous , serving and helping me organise prior , and on the day . We had a brilliant day . It’s also our favourite Breakfast , the service is brilliant every single time

Very dissatisfied and disappointed with the breakfast here today. We haven't been for breakfast for a while but we had been using Cote for many years and were always happy with breakfast in the past as it was always good quality albeit a bit more expensive. However, this visit we found the food to be of very poor quality. Back bacon has been replaced with fatty streaky bacon, the sausages have definitely been changed and we counted about 10 baked beans, the potato cakes were over cooked and not nice and tiny.... All this whilst increasing the price massively. We sent the coffee back as it had been made incorrectly..... So no crema and burnt coffee taste. They did replace the coffee with one they made correctly. Very disappointed we'll not be going back unless they reinstate their previous quality.

Excellent food. Staff were all polite and although we waited for a while to get drinks, I’d put that down to the restaurant being busy so it was fine. Kamal was great, had a chat when paying the bill before leaving.

Used to be great. We had not been back for almost a year. Unfortunately the food was really bad. None of the dishes we ordered even looked as fresh and good as before, let alone taste the same! Overcooked meat, reheated soup, and half-cooked bread. Will never go back.

Booked for 5 of us on a Saturday night. Nice welcoming atmosphere. The Bench seat that we were given was uncomfortable for my ancient back, there were scatter cushions one of which made me more comfortable. Very chatty nice waitress took our order (About 18:15) some of us had starters which came promptly with the drinks. The main meal did not arrive until (19:30) which was a long wait. Most of us enjoyed our meals, although I was not impressed with the mussels that I had. Vacuum packed, or frozen and had a spongey texture. Desserts that some of us had disappeared rapidly I shared a mixed cheese board and a glass of dessert wine. Staff were lovely and friendly.

Cote is the type of place you can rely on, for delicious food at a reasonable price. We were not let down and thoroughly enjoyed our after Christmas family lunch. Perfect.

On a cold and wet morning we decided to have breakfast in Cote and what a good decision it was. Excellent service, very nice food and good coffee. Will return.

We had a family Boxing Day lunch as we do each year but the overall experience was mixed. A big positive is the great service, very efficient. The issue some of us found was the food. My wife had the crispy garlic calamari which unfortunately had nothing crispy about it. The dish was overall very oily and she had to scrap the ‘batter’ off as it was not crisp. She did comment and her comments were taken on board. Others in our party felt the same way. She then had the pork belly which was okay but the skin was not cracked at all, just very limp. She declined desserts as she was put off. I had the beetroot salad which was tasty but not an overwhelming dish. I had the pumpkin tart which was very disappointing. It came out with a soggy bottom with a filo pastry. The topping was mushy and nothing looked like pumpkin. After a few bites I sent it back. After a discussion with the waiter I settled on the tuna nicoise which was not that much better. The tuna was burnt on one side. I really could not be bothered to send it back or complain, i was not really interested in a third attempt. The salad seemed hastily put together. The macaron was okay. I think for the price Cote needs to have a look at its menu, it just seems a little tired. This was reflective when the menu I first looked at was covered in coffee stains and had ripped pages. Whilst the waiter did apologise had instructed staff not to put that particular menu on the table, I feel it is indicative of where Cote is as a restaurant. We will probably not be rushing back.

Excellent food and service, you will not be dissapointed. Perfect for a nice quiet evening meal.

We come to this restaurant almost every week. The little Indian waiter said he was unable to serve my wife with the desert she wanted as it wasn’t on the fixed price menu. We said we would just have thetwo course fixed price and pay full price for the desert. He said that wasn’t possible. FFS why are restaurants so unable to accommodate their clients requests particularly when they rely on them coming in every week???. Pathetic- we’ll have to review whether we come here again. So much for “ the customer is always right” seems as though this isn’t the case at Cote Newbury!!!!

After trying to book tables at other restaurants who would could only give us a set amount of time to eat and have fun, I decided to try Cote. It is a place we have often been and enjoyed, especially their French breakfasts! On arrival we were welcomed and given a choice of places to sit. We booked a table quite early in the evening, it slowly got busier and had a good atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and very friendly. The food, as expected, was very good - The cheese soufflé was nice, although I did expect it to have risen slightly (although I have never chosen it before, so it may have been as it was meant to be) more I had Duck a l'orange which was delicious and fell off the bone, followed by Paris-Brest, which was amazing with warm chocolate sauce poured over it. We are always greeted by friendly staff, who are attentive, but not overly so and always helpful. Have definitely learned a lesson, to have Cote as an initial option for dining as a couple and as a party. We were given time to enjoy the meal and each others company without having a time limit, which so many places have now. P.S. The house red Merlot is highly recomended.

This place used to be good. Now I have had 2 bad experiences I am not sue if I am ready to pay them for for a third chance. Went there for a late lunch today. Booked for 14:30, we had to wait for a table……… Eventually we got lunch. Whitebait chicken and and upraded sirloin steak, not bad. Then some menus were quite litterally thrown at us followed 2 minutes later by a demand “what do you want?” We were not ready but chose our deserts. Then the bill arrived. I asked for the service charge to be removed. Why? Like WHY. 1 because it’s optional 2 because I don’t like being asked. “ what do you want?” And 3 I dont pay service changes on my credit card. The food is not great, the service is not great, The staff treat you with contempt. They are better places to,eat in Newbury

We came in for our small work Xmas do and had a Fantastic meal, great service and laughs with the staff. They cater well for allergies which really helped us with choosing this venue.

I visited Cöte in Newbury for the first time last night for a belated birthday meal with my parents. I was highly impressed with the excellent food and the exceptional service, particularly from our waitress Kayleigh. I had a filet steak cooked to perfection medium rare, I usually ask for rare because most places overcook slightly, but the chef at Cöte cooked it perfectly medium rare. The steak itself was excellent, in my top 5 ever, and I eat a lot of steak. The peppercorn sauce was creamy and delicious. I also had the cheese soufflé which was super tasty, light and a wonderful cheese and herb taste, I would definitely have it again. Their wine selection is great and I particularly enjoyed their cinnamon espresso martini, very moreish. All of the staff were too notch, our waitress Kayleigh was wonderful, they even got me a birthday card which was a lovely touch. Unfortunately I live 100 miles away from this branch, but I would definitely return the next time I come to visit my family. Highly recommended.

Great food but absolutely not the place to go if you like big portions service was good atmosphere was mostly created by the party of people I was with (over 20) competition is extremely tight all things considered I had a pleasant experience. Would reccomend this place

We had such a lovely dinner here a few weeks ago. Our waitress Kayleigh was excellent with our 2 year old and it felt a very family friendly place to eat. I would really recommend.

We go here a couple of times a year and we are never disappointed. There are plenty of menu options, albeit the drinks selection is small if you don't want wine. Andrew was our server and he was very friendly and welcoming. The food arrived very promptly. The side of broccoli was disappointingly small everything was very good. The only downside, it was very cold in there. It was quiet so maybe that was why isn't wasn't warm. We will be returning

I know it was a late lunch and it was nearly empty but service should be the same. Staff obviously going home, completely lacking in atmosphere, cold. Such a shame as it used to be a pleasure to eat here. Food mediocre.

My mother and I came for lunch and it was a fantastic experience. We were promptly seated, with our orders taken within minutes. Our food arrives shortly later, warm and tasty. Overpriced for quality of service, food and drink

We've been here a few times in the last few months and we have to be honest and say it's one of the best meals we've had. The chicken from the set menu is amazing, as is the steak! The customer service is fantastic and always very helpful! We have a 7 month old daughter who they always tend too. They fit us in last minute when everywhere else in Newbury is always closed so early. Thanks guys, we appreciate it!

We were seated in a nice booth on a busy Sunday afternoon - even though we hadn't booked. We all enjoyed the Prix Fixê menu - reasonably priced and excellent options to choose from. We had a couple of glasses of wine each & the fruity soda. All the team were friendly & cheerful (thanks to our server - didn't catch his name but Silver Fox describes him adequately!). We'll definitely be back again.

Alex is a great asset to Cote Newbury. He went above and beyond to look after our party of 18 (celebrating a 60th birthday). Thank you Alex for looking after us all so well! Would highly recommend a party there any day!

I was taken to a table promptly with a choice of where to sit. The one star is to the lady who served me as she was amazing. As an individual, she was perfect. Respectful, kind, and competent. However, the food was delivered lukewarm which ruined the experience. I was sitting close to the kitchen and heard the cooks call for service twice then giving up. Three and a half minutes later, someone went into the kitchen then came with my steak. I thought steak would stay hot to warm for a few minutes but they must not use a hot plate. Pizza express is cheaper and always delivers the food very hot. They use a service bell. Cote. Get a service bell. The temperature of my steak was the same as when I get McDonald’s delivered. Yet McDonald’s is 4x cheaper. I was not asked how the meal was until the end ahh I was just hungry but this sucked. I will not be returning to this location. In fact, I’m probably going to stop going to other cote locations. There are many other choices. Who often deliver better. Nando’s chicken next time.

A very nice welcome as soon as we arrived. Food very nice, a little pricey didn't think to point out we wanted Tap water so ended up paying 5.50 for Bottled Water. Very attentive staff always checking on us.

Went for my partner's birthday. They greeted him and there was a birthday card on the table which was a nice touch, as was the complimentary Cremant. The food was very tasty and the portion sizes were spot on. Very reasonably priced for the quality. Thank you for making my partner's birthday special.

Went for lunch today, thank you Marta and the team the sea bass and the chicken were wonderful, will be back. Nice and busy with great service and nice atmosphere for all.

Great food & friendly attentive staff, a very nice place.

Had tomato soup for my wife and I, great soup, ordered sea bass and charcoal grilled chicken for main course, however this was during a employee shift change, on taking away our empty soup bowls we were left for 20 minutes with no drinks or food arriving, on asking if there was a problem I was told that the sea bass was now in the oven. After 20 minutes since eating the soup I would have thought that the sea bass would have been ready. Poor service during a shift change of employees should not be placed onto the shoulders of the customer. I was not informed how much longer we would have to wait so we informed the staff that we would not wait and departed this restaurant. So very disappointed as we regularly come into eat whilst in town. We will continue to come in but be aware shift change times may be a problem.

This was our first visit to this Côte and couldn't fault it. The service was great and my tuna nicoise was the best I've had in a long time. The Fougasse was a little dry and could have done with more garlic but all in all we were really pleased with it. I would recommend this restaurant :-)

My husband and I visited to celebrate my birthday, as soon as we arrived we were greeted by Kayleigh, who was very bubbly and welcoming. The birthday card on the table was a lovely little extra touch as was the surprise French toast and the staff signing to me - we had a wonderful breakfast, the food and the staff were topnotch! Would highly recommend!

My elderly father is a regular visitor to Cote in Newbury but this was my first time going with him. I was so pleased to see how he was welcomed by the staff and treated like a guest of honour. Kayleigh was especially kind and knew Dads order off by heart (he’s a man of habit!) and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was lovely too and the prices are very reasonable. Can’t recommend enough!

Food was good but service not great. One of our party requested no egg on breakfast choice but got one. I had no jam with my choice, though stated it came with it & one of our group had no cutlery so we had to pinch some off adjoining table.

I regularly dine here and on this occasion it particularly impressed. Starter, mains and desert (taste tartin to share) is always well worth a visit when not considering fine dining.

The young man who greeted us was friendly and personable. Unfortunately we then had the licensee who took our order and served us throughout with as much interest as a cauliflower. We were a large party and he didn't crack so much as a smile. It was as if it was an effort to serve us. Food on the whole very nice but my scallops were sliced in half and overcooked which was a shame. It wasn't busy so no ambience. Shame.

Lovely food and an attentive waiter should have made the whole experience of our visit to Côte’s in Newbury an excellent one. It was spoiled by one factor and that was that a more senior member of staff clearly had an issue with our waiter and it became quite embarrassing. The waiter was given a dressing down just behind where we were seated so we heard. He’d chosen to do this in the centre of a near empty restaurant rather than a private space. Then throughout our meal the more senior member of staff kept verbally putting down our waiter to us, whilst the waiter was trying to serve us, even to the point of saying that the waiter would lose his job! You don’t go out for a meal to be wrapped up in a domestic between the staff, it was awkward and embarrassing. Côte’s as a company should investigate as the waiter is clearly being bullied in the workplace.

Went for lunch for a family birthday. The team gave us such a warm welcome and we were kindly treated to a welcome drink. The service was so friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Everyone was very happy with the food which was delicious. This was the second time I've been to Cote and been very impressed both times.

I have been to lots of Cote in the chain, and this newbury branch was just as good. Great food and staff.

Arrived with my 93 year old partially sighted aunt yesterday, and she surprised us with an unusual request, the manager responded with kindness and grace and provided it to her delight. Thankyou very much we had a lovely meal in a lovely atmosphere
