The Dolphin in Stockport

Prices have gone up again and so have the attitudes of the staff,very very rude and impatient,it's pointless having a menu on the wall because they don't give you more than 10 seconds to choose something,chips were like scraps and the fish was swimming in oil and the peas tasted like the 29p ones from a supermarket,this place has gone dramatically down hill and won't get any more custom off me.

First time ordering from here. I tried the cod with large chips & peas. The fish is of a medium size however the batter is quite thin & not all that crunchy, it was also pretty greasy & so were the chips. The peas were ok. Everything was wrapped separate with the chips in a polystyrene container. I was expecting it to all be in a cardboard box as per the pics. Overall id say its pretty average. Delivery was on time & the fee via Uber is cheap at 0.29p but with a service charge of £2.14. Cod £7.50 Large Peas £2.20 Large Chips £4.50

We asked for Cod and were given what we believe was Haddock. If it was in fact Cod , it was overccoked, chewy and tasteless. We paid £21 for two portions of 'Cod' chips and peas and although the portion sizes were good, the fish was absolutely awful. This used to be one of the best chippies in the area but now it has to be one of the worst ans very overpriced. AVOID !!!

We went last night( admittedly we only go now and again, once every month or so) and for about the third time I asked for cod and was given haddock, part of which was overcooked, chips were okay will be a long time before we go again, very disappointed.

I have an issue with the menu on Uber eats.. it states large beans ,large peas.large gravy. No option for medium or small… I rang the shop to question this and was told the large portion is now served in a small carton,, which when asked why said it was the company that had change it…with cost of living nowadays I wanted to order a steak pudding,,steak pie,,and chips to share with a large gravy.. which wouldn’t have enough gravy for two meals… please be aware of this when ordering

Best chippy in the area that's for sure. Just remember when ordering to make your meal less soggy, ask them to give you your mushy peas separate rather than their default choice of chucking them in the same tray the fish and chips

Heard good reviews of the gluten free food from here. Ordered on the phone, my partner came in to collect it and was met with a hostile attitude from the staff because their equipment was down and she just kept shouting at him before he could explain that he had put in an order which he could see was on the side waiting for us to collect. Fair enough if you’ve had a bad night because your equipment broke but there’s no need to take it out on customers. When he tried to explain we put an order over the phone for a gluten free she apparently kept shouting at him “WE CANT DO YOUR FOOD ORDER CAN WE IF OUR EQUIPMENTS NOT WORKING” and then kept asking him if it’s Uber eats when he told you twice it wasn’t. Try actually just listening to your customers rather than ranting at them: Won’t be returning.

They have stopped by far my favorite meal deal. I still miss large fish and chips meal. It's no longer available when I visited last time. Other than that I really like the fries.

Been a loyal customer from the dolphin for over 33 years and Absolutley love this place, best fish and chips ever. However ordered our fish and chips this evening via Uber eats to have the most terrible service from the staff ever. I am astonished by the lack of care and service given by the staff and this has given me a terrible view of a place I have been so loyal to for so long. We had items missing from our large order. We waited an hour for this delivery but I wasn’t too bothered with that being as it is Good Friday and the food is always so lovely. However on receipt of our order we we noticed items missing, I immediately rang the dolphin to be told it’s not there problem and that they can’t leave the store and to take it up with Uber. Firstly Uber collect a sealed packet from yourself and there was no apology for those items missing which was YOUR FAULT. Secondly there was no adjustments or considerations of how we can get the remaining items but just simply told nothing to do with you, it is in fact completely YOUR ERROR being as Uber do not package this up themselves. The customer service is shocking and completely ruined our evening. I appreciate your busy on one of the busiest nights of the year but for a customer to be told ‘not my problem’ after paying for items which Were not in the delivery is completely out of order and a disgrace. We have recently read a lot of bad reviews on local Facebook pages however thought this to be wrong as we have always been treated so well. If this continues all customers will end up going else we’re and enjoy the money you took from us without giving us our products. Many thanks One unhappy customer

This was a great chippy but I feel they've taken their eye off the ball. We were really disappointed with the fish & chips. The batter wasn't cooked right through which made the fish soggy. Not cheap either.

Having been getting food from this chippy for many years, today I received the worst service ever. I asked for part of my order and before I could complete the sentence i was told how much to pay and then asked 'anything else' - parrot style and without even listening. The place was emply, lots of staff and no need to rush an order or a customer. Never visiting here again. There are two other chippy within 400 metres - I wne to one of them instead. It would seem that staff recuitment policy has hit an all time low.

Gluten free menu gets a thumbs up from me

Use the dolphin as they’re local to us and offer gluten free food. Normally the gluten free portion is clearly marked as such but got our recent takeaway home to find no labels and we had to make a (very risky) guess to make sure I didn’t end up really ill. Didn’t think much of the attitude of the staff member who served me. The portions were decent but the chips were soggy and the fish was dry.

Fab first visit today lovely gluten free chips curry sauce n gluten free battered sausage.will definetly call in again when next in the area.

We had ordered at hungry dolphin chips and crumbed prawns chips were nice but crumbed prawns were a let down. I'm used to the fresh large local prawns used at la Beach, these were 3.00 each for a frozen processed product.

This is probably one of the best traditional chippies around. I come from Brighton and we will know how famous Brighton is for its fish and chips. But these guys are better than anything I had. The chips are just the best, crispy, fresh and even when you cover them in curry sauce (which is pretty good) they remain crispy. Staff are really nice, efficient and friendly. It gets busy though, which is to be expected considering how good the food is. Highly recommended, very, very!

I ordered fish and chips for two for delivery by ubereats and it never turned up. When we phoned half and hour after the stated delivery time we were told that the driver couldn't find our location. We live on the main road to Stockport and find that explanation unbelievable. The response we got was to phone another number to get a refund. but no replacement order. This level of service is totally unacceptable.

Time after time The Dolphin delivers great quality food. Fish and chips are hot and fresh and although it's always busy, they serve very quickly. It's great that that this place has kept up a great reputation for many years.

Asked for fish, chips and peas. The peas however were thrown all over the fish and chips with no care whatsoever. And fish was very wet and soggy! They have now lost a loyal customer

Not had fish and chips for a while but looking after elderly mum so went tonight to her fav chippy What can i say fab service great fish brill peas, curry and chips, staff so polite efficient and organised despite being mad busy. Well done and get a good rest when finished you deserve it. We will be back soon and mum says had a wonderful tea 👍😘😘👍

Great value and brilliant gluten free options

This is by far the best chippy especially for me as they do chippy curry sauce not many do, but we Ordered this evening and for the first time our order was wrong with missing a couple of item's, but we can not fault the service as within 20 minutes the forgotten items were delivered with extra treats which my daughter loved, we can not fault the food its always hot and tasty and the price is great, you pay for what you get and that's quality food and service,

Omg every time i go to this chippy the chips are disgusting. The dirty brown chips are just sat in an OPEN warmer so atleast u can see how bad they are then walk out before u waste ur money.They NEVER change the oil. Just the smell of old old old oil from it knocked me sick. Threw it all in the bin. Last time i waste money at this chippy. Staff are miserable as sin. How has this place ever won an award? Place could do with a good clean aswell. TERRIBLE

Amazing chip shop. Always visit while in the area. Can particularly recommend the chilli con carne & the salt & pepper box. Kids meals aren't to shabby either.

Fish is now 6. 20 and it was really small chips were soggy and threw together span fritter was caked in grease 16 quid for that what a rip off

Called not long after it reopened following it being closed for a fire and the fish and chips still tasted like dirty old oil so even after being forced to close they still didn't change the oil, tasted disgusting and will never return!

Lovely place to eat, quick professional service. I've order place, 2 cod, 1 portion of chips and 1 mushy peas, wait around 10 min which is ok for tasty food. Big thanks for lovely Jane who was very polite and helpfull. Definitely will be back again x

Amazing chippy traditional fish and chips

THE best fish and chips I’ve ever had! Taste was amazing and you could clearly tell that everything was really fresh, the staff were really nice, and prepared the food really fast, it was also packed really nicely and neatly, all in all I’d really advise everyone to get their fish and chips from here!! Everything was perfect!

A good, proper old-fashioned chippy seems to be hard to come by in Manchester. However, this one is a gem. Generous portions and very reasonable prices. Always seems to be a queue of people outside too, so looks like many others agree!

Called this evening for Fish and Chips....worst Food i have tasted for a long time ...The Fish was dry and chips were awful all scraps no decent sized chips....wont be calling again...very disappointed!!!!

Made and order for 3 fish and chips and some battered sausages and it was all packaged and ready to go in less than 5 mins. It food was probably sitting there but no complaints!! Food piping hot and tasty as always

Absolutely top marks to these guys for their battered fish. Tried all over until I found this place. They have also just shifted from polystyrene to cardboard boxes for their packaging, a great initiative.

My daughter placed an order on line at dolphin with uber eats and within fifteen mins it arrived piping hot.bwevwerevvery impressed and will always use them.

I’ve been using The Dolphin for over 30 years and the quality has always been excellent. Good generous portions of fresh well cooked food. Well done to the owners and operators which have changed over the years but the consistency in standard has remained excellent.

Don't bother going unless you are prepared to queue, waited 40 minutes to get serverd, they must have been 30-40 customers in front of me, the queue was all the way back to the book makers,when I came out it was all the way around to Thornley Lane.The reason why was caused by delivery drivers who get preference over custormers, only 3 allowed in the shop at any one time,after using the dolphin for 40 years never to return again,absolutely disgraceful.

Tastes nice but they charge for a large portion and serve you a standard one.

I just move in the area and it’s the first time when I try this shop and the food is delicious and the staff is very friendly

i ordered from this chippy and then not even half of my order arrived, then i rang for 20 minutes straight and not once did they answer. i am outraged by the service and personally the food that actually came was not up to my standards the cheesy chips were sour and not even melted. the standards were extremely poor and so was the customer service i have now had to make food due to the food i payed for not even coming and my money has now been wasted on something that i didn’t even get. i want my money back as £27 isn’t a reasonable price for a portion of dry chips and sour cheesy chips that isn’t even worth half of my money! i am appalled by this and it has made me so furious. i will never again order from this place and i advise others not to!

Sorry about this review but I have just had the worse Fish and Chips ever.What as happened to this place? I have been going here for many years But no more the chips were nothing but scrapings and the Fish was thin hard dry and smothered in thick batter one word inedible ! Went in the bin. Had to give 1 star would not let me post with no star

Had fish, chips & curry sauce today. Lovely quality and very good portion size. Staff are always lovely and although it was very busy tonight, they ensured to keep everyone safe and not wait for too long.

Absolutely the best chippy in the area. Perfect light, crispy batter on the fish which is always really tasty. Chips always crispy and fresh. Usually delivered stupidly quickly as well!
