Called at the end of a walk for a refreshment. Good selection of draught ale and other excisable liquor. Helpful friendly staff. May have something to eat next time. The menu looks interesting 🤔 👀 👌

Customer service: 1/5 tired staff who didn't want to be there. Food: 2/5 Amazing if you like potatoes; otherwise, don't bother. Cleanliness: ... Sticky menus, tables full of bits of crumbs We heard good things about this pub but we'd always gone to The Midland across the road. This evening, unfortunately, The Midland was shutting their kitchen at 8pm for maintenance, so we thought we'd try this place for a change. We ordered two pies, the roasted lamb shoulder and the steak-frites. The pies were by pie ministers and we knew that they were decent pies. The lamb was tender and the salsa that accompanied the lamb was tasty. There was way too much mash on all those dishes. The steak-frites was terrible. The fries were mostly soaked in the pepper sauce, which was unexpected. The steak was supposedly cooked to medium-rare. It was the most disgusting rump steak I've ever eaten. Quite frankly, Weatherspoons' steak was way better!!? It was extremely tough and gristly. The steak was not once tenderised. The server came to check that our food was OK. We told the server that the steak was tough. She went to speak to the cook and then came back to offer to give us a different one. To be honest, I wouldn't dare. Who knows what extra ingredients would be added to my "new" steak. The fries were OK. The photos are of our food, including a photo of the steak when it was served and what was left - which was about two thirds of the steak. There'll be no next time. This pub is probably a great local... Just don't eat there!

We booked for Sunday dinner. The table they had put us in as still being used do they moved us to another table. Unfortunately it was where a couple of families with children were. The children were not being watched and were noisy and quite distributive. However the service was excellent and I think of the best Sunday dinners we’ve had out for quite awhile. It was great that we could take our dog with us too.

A rather disappointing experience. Our party of eight were pre-booked, and arrived in good time for lunch. Service was a bit slow, but not excessively so. when the food arrived it was dried up and shrivelled. Mushrooms looking like wallnuts, black pudding as hard and brittle as an Oreo cookie, chips blackened on the outside, although light and fluffy on the inside. Everything was palatable and tasty, but presentation... Oh dear :(

Started off well as the bar staff were friendly & accommodating, however it got weird when we ordered food. My partner noticed they were charged more than expected (should have been £37 but was over £40). They queried it and was told there was service charge included and it says on the menu. It doesn’t, and we overheard their colleague say something about new menus not being out yet. I don’t object to paying service charge as long as it is clear and we aren’t paying before we’ve received the service. It’s not clear what service is provided when you are ordering food at the bar? The food is expensive, and after paying £19.50 for a below average burger and £17.50 for a Pieminster pie (only £14 at an actual Pieminster), my partner bit into her burger to find it had mustard in it. This was not mentioned on the menu (it only said it had relish, which it didn’t). My partner works in hospitality and is aware of allergen procedures and laws. We checked the menu again and there was zero mention of allergens. After my partner said to the bar staff they couldn’t eat mustard, there was no apology, simply an “oh ok” and they said they’d remake the food. The server asked if we wanted to keep the original burger, to which we said no - they then put it directly back in front of my partner, after starting to taking it away. I said again that no one would eat it and they just left it? Very odd. It’s awkward having to point out issues and we tried to be nice about it but it was a really awkward and uncomfortable experience. We were sat right next to the bar and when we left we were friendly and said bye but were blanked by all staff. Would not recommend for food however the beer and chips were good!

Table booked at 1pm. When we arrived place was uncomfortably cold and our table was cramped it was almost in the empty fireplace. There was no phone signal and the Wi-Fi was not working. Ordered drinks ok when we arrived but twenty minutes later our food order had not been taken with the staff seemingly ignoring our glances. Other tables that arrived later than us had their orders taken. Had to ask at the bar and then our order was taken promptly . Thirty minutes later no sign of our food being served, in fact very few tables in the pub seemed to be eating. Tried to find a signal to find somewhere else but no. We eventually cancelled our order and left.

Good pub. Always a good array of ale choices which change regularly as well as an extensive range of keg beer and lager. The food is simple, but very good, and the chef makes some great specials with prices around the average for most pubs in the district. However, if you are seeking a "gastropub" then this is probably not your best bet. Pub is both dog and child friendly, and has a large outdoor area, which, despite being only 30 feet from a main road, feels oddly secluded. Although music is played constantly on the pub, it has never been loud enough on any of my visits to be a problem.

What a gorgeous Sunday roast! From the moment we walked in, the cosy atmosphere made us feel at home. Paul was super friendly and cheerful. A decent Sunday roast in a nice pub was exactly what was needed en route home from my hen weekend! I went for the beef roast, and it was absolutely divine - crispy and fluffy roast potatoes, and the yorkshire pudding was delicious! The vegetables were cooked to perfection, and the cauliflower cheese was yummy. I topped it all off with the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, and wow, what a treat! A fantastic Sunday roast experience in a friendly pub setting and now going home feeling full and happy.
