Spread Eagle in Stockport

The interior of the pub is classic and traditional, and the Christmas decorations were beautiful. The pie was delicious, and there were good-sized portions. I can’t say enough about how good the mains were! The service was efficient, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu when we asked questions. The only downside was dessert. I ordered the Four Layer Fudge Cake, which was only two layers and quite small and tasteless. The ice cream was nice, but for £8.25, I felt hard done by.

I've been to one of the companies other pubs and always had a nice time. So when I was meeting my son and granddaughter in romily I suggested the Spread Eagle. We all had the carvery. There was a good selection of meat and a varied selection of vegetables. Unfortunately the majority of the vegetables were undercooked. The roast potatoes we almost raw, as were the carrots. There was no cauliflower cheese in the pot and there didn't seem any chance of it being replenished. This was a booking for 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. So although it was busy it wasn't that busy that the deck couldn't be replenished regularly or the vegetables to be undercooked. At £90 for 3 meals I would expect at least cooked food. I can't say we will be visiting again.

Love calling in for a pint when walking or cycling down the peak forest canal.

Really delicious food, which came out quite quickly. Service was excellent, really friendly people. Pub looked really lovely with the Xmas decorations.

Carvery for 7, plus a pie from the menu. Tasty. Strongbow cider was £3.95 a pint, which is cheap for the area. Guinness well priced too

Well worth a visit if you are in the area and you are comfortable with dogs in a pub whilst you are eating and drinking. There is parking to the front and side of the pub.

It was absolutely brilliant and I can highly recommend it. They were incredibly busy but still found time to move a chair so that our dog could be out of the way when all the assigned dog friendly tables were already occupied. The carvery was excellent, too!

Had a lovely family meal on Sunday 1st December. Ella was our waitress, nothing was too much trouble for her. Very polite and pleasant. Food was great too. Absolutely spot on.

Beautiful place, beautiful atmosphere. My mother in law had her 70th birthday party meal here on Saturday 23rd November and couldn't of gone anywhere better. Food was delicious! Amazing staff, amazing atmosphere! The staff made it extra special allowing balloons and decorations, they even put them up themselves! A big Big thankyou to the wonderful staff member cat, very professional, friendly and Amazing service. Honestly the best place! Thankyou so much for everything! We will deffiently be returning. Highly reccomend. 10 out of 10.

Overall reasonable experience. The chef isn't as good as the fletchers (other Almond pub) some veggies were hard and not hot.

Went to the spread eagle end of October for my dads 80th. The service was slow, food service slow, not everyone got their drinks at the same time. Was my first time here after driving from west yorkshire. The food was ok, nothing special at all, expensive for what it was, £15.50 for lasagna and a bit of salad and and bread. The lasagna pasta was a little tough as i would say not cooked or prepped properly. The set of tables they pulled together were all different heights. Main thing is, my parents enjoyed it. Would we go back, no. Far more better places to go.

My sister & I had a lovely mid week carvery, which was a treat. The beef was excellent & a great range of vegtables. I always get friendly service. My sister who was visiting commented. Great pub, great food & great staff. Thank you.

Oh what a shame we thought we had found the best carvery aound we drive there from Chorlton, We have been a few times and it has been nice and my husband paid for the kings plate, got two slices of meat .I had to ask the young girl for more meat, the roast potatoes horrible, Brussel sprouts size of a pea, parsnips burnt and gravy no taste, The only thing that tasted nice was the mash potatoes, can't complain about the Staff I would give them 5 Stars they are all lovely

Absolutely awful service. I have been a regular customer for many years. We were greeted with a confused host about our table and told to go to the bar. We bought drinks. We were eventually told our table was ready and the other ‘people’ were there! We informed them we had no other people? They apologised. We ordered our food. My child ordered a kids meal. We waited over an hour. Still no food. When we complained rather than an apology we were met with an argumentative manager who said it was our fault that we orders a starter! She is an awful customer service host. I can understand places can be busy but to blame the customer when we ordered a child’s soup! I am so upset as this is my local pub that I have visited for many years. Your main waitress is awful. I’ve encountered her before. I will not be coming back. Terrible service and I sue t £40 on drinks. What a waste!

ordered a chicken curry when it came it had no chicken in it so had to wait for it to be made. Also it should have been called a onion curry, far to many onions. Did not enjoy it at all. The server was lovely but not the food.

Great place to go for a meal. Carvery is very good, even for a carvery the gravy actually has some taste which is rare. Wide variety of drinks. Two niggles, firstly the car park can get a little cramped. Secondly, I hate paying for sides for things like sandwiches as it always feels over the odds. Service charges can apply, however the service is good so I don't resent this.

Absolutely gorgeous roast dinner - you can get up to 3 meat choices from a selection of beef, turkey, gammon, Chinese pork... And I think one or two other options. I went with beef, Chinese pork and gammon. Chinese pork was nice but the beef and gammon were GORGEOUS. Absolutely MASSIVE Yorkshire pudding which was also sooooo good and all the veg was really lovely too! We all had delicious meals and we were really impressed with the friendly, attentive service too. Definitely going to be back!

So disappointed with our carvery experience on Sunday. The beef was dripping in blood, chef refused to carve from the other end or carve a couple of slices to flash in the kitchen for a few moments extra cooking and had every excuse under the sun ‘we always cook them rare’ ‘it’s really hard to know when they’re cooked’ which left me gobsmacked as it showed a real lack of expertise. She then went on to carve the turkey which was also pink with blood streaks throughout. We were all left with stomach cramps for days and I’m sure the turkey was the cause. There was a shortage of pretty much everything. Parsnips were rock solid. Gravy was good but again the pot was nearly empty. There were so many groups of waitresses stood around on the floor, it’s a shame there wasn’t a system whereby they could help top up the carvery. Also timings on the carvery could be better as we were told to wait until they told us to go but then forgot us for half an hour and the carvery was left empty for a while until I asked the waitress if we could go. Then there was a huge queue after us as tables were just going up when they ordered. Supervisor was great and waitresses are friendly enough but on this occasion the food really let the place down. Gutted I couldn’t have the roast beef dinner that I went for.

Called after walk round Etherow Country park with our dog, with a view to having lunch. The sign outside stated dogs were welcome, but when we entered the pub, we were told by a member of the staff that dogs were not allowed in the pub on a Sunday! If our dog is not welcome in the pub on a Sunday, then neither are we. We left immediately, and will not be returning! YOU REALLY NEED TO CHANGE YOUR SIGN OUTSIDE TO SAY THAT DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN ON SUNDAYS!!

While B&Bing in the area to drop a friend off the following day (Sunday) at Manchester Airport we called in here after a local recommendation from someone at the nearby Dobbies garden centre. Had not booked but Trisha on the desk was really friendly and helpful and found us a table coming free after about a half hour wait. Had drinks in the bar area ( poor really as small and only high stools at a few tables). We were shown to a table in the ‘veranda extension’ area and very pleasant it was too ( only 2 tables there and a bit quieter than the main areas). Atmosphere in the pub is lovely, as was the service . Decided to have the Carvery and very nice (£13). Note that a 10% service charge is made on your bill but the waitresses look to work really hard, remaining pleasant etc….so please accept it ( you can have it removed if you want but that would be a shame on you). We even gave the two girls who served us an extra tip.

Everything is good. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly (and pretty) staff. Foods are presented very nice. I ordered battered fish for my son and the battered layer is thin and crispy. It’s really amazing. We definitely will come again.

Called at the spread eagle for a quick drink after picking my wife up from work with our two small dogs, We were told after we asked about dogs, don’t block the entrance, don’t let them sit on the seats and be out by seven by a girl who was not young and not a uniformed girl, so probably one of the managers Maybe you should put all that on the boards outside to save the staff time explaining We felt totally unwelcome, so got one drink and sat outside, all the seats in that area are stools so they couldn’t sit on them anyway. Maybe you should put dogs but not friendly.

Came here for a family 50th birthday meal. The service was great. Lovely friendly staff. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a carvery. Oh my word highly recommend 👌. Yummy. Brussel sprouts would have been a great addition to this fabulous meal. The yorkshire puddings, wow huge. We all throughly enjoyed every single meal and dessert served for all 14 of us.

Just had a lovely carvery couldn't fault it but I was disappointed that the roast potatoes were not home.cooked and were definately of the frozen kind I am.thinking that this was a one off as never had them like that before

Fine food in a relaxed atmosphere. I was here for my birthday recently and was surprised by staff with a piece of my favourite cake that had a candle in it. Three of the lovely staff presented it and sang happy birthday to me as a surprise. How lovely. I even got extra meat on my carvery, which was both sweet of the server and perfectly cooked as always. Thank you to the staff for helping to make my birthday special xx

Good food , quick service and very friendly staff. Great place to go with family and to take your dogs. Reasonable prices for food and drink. Range of food is great and great selection of lager on tap. Definitely will be returning! Would recommend the carvery for a good selection of meat and veggie options. It's also convenient for regulars that can join the loyalty club for exclusive offers. Lovely atmosphere with music and retro decor. Update: After a recent couple of visits, this place is great all round, unless you bring your dog . A certain member of staff came across very passive aggressive when it comes to dogs , this is the third time ive taken my dog and should of learned the first time (same member of staff had to move our group each time, which set us all in a small closed off corner of the building next to a dog that was growling and barking at our dog , which was only 2 or 3 feet away) . I understand there are dedicated areas for customers with dogs . But the spaces dedicated are very cramped together . Which can be overwhelming even for a well behaved dog. Maybe the dog area inside should be either rearranged or reconsidered in general . Our dog was well behaved , but was becoming anxious when sat next to a smaller dog that wasn't happy with our dog . And we couldn't move anywhere as we were being rushed to eat our food and had to move outside by 7pm. Which I do understand but the attitude of a certain staff member was unacceptable. It was unfortunate after giving the same server multiple chances to redeem herself. However the spread eagle is always an amazing place to go . To eat or to casual drink.

Lovely welcome by waitresses. Carvery lunch = excellent choices of meat and vegetables. Generous helping so we had to walk back to Marple along the canal.

Came in for a carvery at Friday lunchtime, the food was absolutely amazing, I got the honeyed ham and the chinese pork, both were delicious, my partner got the beef and that was amazing aswell. Couldn’t fault anything, the portions were so good aswell. We also got milkshakes and they were 10/10. It was our first time coming, but definetly won’t be the last! The service was really good aswell, thanks to Nicole, Saskia, Liz and Tiegan for their service. Would 100% recommend, best carvery I’ve had in the area.

Visited on a Sunday based reviews about "best carvery around" Lovely friendly staff but found the food to be average at most, not much choice of veggies especially for a Sunday, beef a little dry, Yorkshire puds and gravy nice, but far better carverys around that are cheaper

Fine Food, balanced and tasty with good portions. Place has inside and outside siting with a car parking. The restaurant/pub looks like a big house, with so many rustic rooms. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Loved the families vibes. Will be back 🙌🏽

First time we have eaten here and it won't be the last! Lunch with the family was a brilliant experience. I have mobility issues and mum is 94 but we were all so well looked after that we had a wonderful, relaxed meal without any stress. A far cry from what we have found elsewhere. The customer service was excellent, so helpful and caring to a level hardly ever experienced anywhere today. We had a variety of food from the menu and the carvery, which was all of a high standard and very much enjoyed. I totally recommend eating here and would like to offer a huge well done and massive thanks to the whole team.

Went on a Sunday late afternoon. Thought it might be quieter but was very busy. We had to wait for a proper table to eat at, was initially shown to a bar table and given menus - not ideal. Tried to book in advance but only take bookings for 5 or more people? Food was good and fairly priced, carvery was good with a twist on things, serving Chinese glazed pork and seasoned wedges. Would probably go back but on a quieter day.

Lovely pub! Bar maid was very friendly and even offered to rock my baby while my mum and I ate our food as he wasn’t settling. Food was lovely and reasonably priced, would definitely dine again!

Went for a carvery meal, family of 5 to celebrate a birthday. Unfortunately the person carving the meat was trying to make the slices of meat see through. They were ridiculously thin and as such it felt like it was basically a plate of veg. Have been to the Spread in many occasions and never had an issue. I don’t like making a fuss whilst at a restaurant so sent an email once I got home to complain. I had to chase for a response and when it finally came through, they apologised but basically said that I should have raised the issue there and then. I was not offered anything in recompense which was very disappointing.

Really good traditional pub serving great food and very friendly helpful staff. Will definitely return. Portion sizes are huge for food and the lamb burger was gorgeous.

We arrived at the Spread at 7.30 The restaurant was completely empty. We asked at the bar regarding food as no one was at the front desk where you usually ask for a table. The bar staff were very friendly and said eat where you like, we are not busy. We didnt want to sit in an empty area so we chose to sit in the bar. We were told that there would be no waitress service as we chose to sit in the bar. We were a metre away from the empty restaurant area. ? I ordered a carvery and my husband ordered a curry. My food was cold. I asked for it to be heated up in the microwave which was reheated. In the meantime my husband had nearly finished his. Such a shame as the food was nice, Vita the server could do with a chat from the manager regarding customer service. When there are only a few customers surely you could be slightly flexible? I had to walk around the pub asking for my cold food to be reheated?

First time visiting to meet friends for drinks and food. Great atmosphere, good choice on menu, food was delicious, service was outstanding and always with a smile! We will return for sure. Our friends had the carvery and loved it, husband had the stacker burger and was so full he had no room for pudding!y vegetarian options were so tasty!

Very close to the canal. My friends and I visited this on a canal boating day and it was a welcome rest point to get some lunch and chat without the drone of canal boat's diesel engine drone humming in the background. I wouldn't say the food was amazing, I struggle to remember what I even had so I'd say it was nice but not memorable. The service however was brilliant. You could tell they were all putting a lot of effort in and I couldn't fault them. Would come again.

We came for a Sunday Lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, me and my partner! The food was great and the staff were lovely. It was a great atmosphere and they were able to squeeze us in on the waiting list. Our server was Elliot and he was great and very attentive! One of the best service we have had in a while! Overall we will definitely be back! Thankyou Elliot for making our meal a great experience!!

Family birthday meal. Staff were attentive and friendly and cavery was lovely.

Out walking along the canal, we called in for a bite to eat on 2 June having never visited the pub before - ordering two fish pies. The friendly and helpful staff told us the fish pies were ready and that we could pile up our plates with loads of extra stuff - pleasant surprise. The quality of the cooking is top class. A great find - we will be back.

Dunno what I can say. Excellent carvery. Good value for money. Service was excellent. You are not getting service like that in a chain pub. If you like a carvery Come here.

Stumbled upon this place after spending a morning at Pair Mill. Very nice pub, excellent food, really friendly staff, very attentive and the prices aren't bad either. Decent amount of parking as well.

First time visiting the spread eagle, we drove past a couple of times after visiting Lyme park so thought we try it out. I ordered a steak ciabatta and the steak was cooked perfectly and was nice. Will try a carvery next time as we arrived quite early. Good customer service and wait time wasn’t too long. We will most likely visit again. Thankyou.

We turned up and were seated on their busiest day of the week within 10 minutes. The staff are the same each time pretty much and all happy, every time. That tells you a lot. We had 2 carveries and a lamb shank and desserts were the deep and luscious cheesecake, the crumble and the ice cream. All were superb!

A really good pub, we came across this by just walking a little off beat, seated very quickly & a menu given really quickly, we was served by a lovely lady liz I think (blonde hair)she went over & above on everything to make our time really good, food was great as well & same for the beers we had

We came in a couple of years ago and it was the luckiest find ever. Tremendous pub. We both had the sunday carvery and it was epic. Tasty and huge! Lois on the carvery was so friendly and chatty while providing excellent service and it didnt stop there, Trisha our server was brilliant as well. Friendly and fast service. We live in Leicester and everytime we go North we think about popping over is thats good.

Looked for a new carvery as our usual was getting a bit boring. We found this place through recommendations and it didn't disappoint. The only negative was that there wasn't much choice of veg. But the veg they did have was very nice. Generous with meat portions and the pigs and blankets, wow! Definitely found our new carvery. Even the standard menu looked nice

Been a few times over past couple of years food always ok .The most recent visit today carvery was the worst I have ever had.Meet full of fat food cold and trays left with scraps of burnt roast potatoes.Had to ask for fresh so that was the only part of the meal with Yorkshire pudding I ate. Told manager as she ask but didn't seem bothered. Won't be going back

Came in last Thursday with my mum for a roast after being recommended by Doug Almond. Didn’t realise it started at 5 so we had a few drinks while waiting - staff were so so friendly and kind. Roast was exactly what I had been craving and great veggie option too!!

Hi, we called for Sunday lunch (carvery) table for three at 12 noon yesterday. ( 24/3/24) just as you opened. However there are two things which unfortunately let it down , first thing was the food was Luke warm and considering you had only just opened was disappointing as it should have been hot. The next thing was a service charge of 10% had automatically been added to the bill, when we came to pay, which was pointed out by the member of staff. We asked for this to be taken off as we tip at our own discretion. We have been to the Almond family pubs before and have had excellent food, however sadly this was a great disappointment.

Brought my elderly grandparents in here for lunch, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We were served by Trish who was attentive to us from the moment we walked through the door. Exactly the type of experience that would take you back to the place!

Have just been to the Spread Eagle for Sunday lunch, absolutely fabulous experience, the staff are so friendly & welcoming 😊 I was diagnosed as celiac 12 months ago & have to follow a strict gluten free diet, they have a gluten free menu as well as gluten free beers!! I opted for the carvery & was treated so well (you do feel like an inconvenience at times when eating out), nothing was too much trouble for the chefs, they made my own roast potatoes & cauliflower cheese, the chef took great care & consideration when carving my meat (used a different carving board & utensils). My meal was absolutely delicious but more importantly for me, I wasn’t made to feel like a pain!! My fellow diners also thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Will definitely be returning!!
