The Doghouse in York

Me and my husband found this little place at the Shambles. We were looking for hot tasty food and that is what we got. The hotdogs were cooked to order and the food looked and tasted fresh. The lady that served us was lovely and very friendly. We waited about ten minutes, if that. We paid around £5-£6.50 for our hotdog and didn't think that was bad at all . We would defiantly recommend this place for a quick bite to eat, so that you, can carry in exploring York. She also has a vegan and veggie hotdog.

Great hot dog & friendly lady behind the till! The hot dogs were just cooking as we ordered, didn’t have to wait long! Also the relish was yummy!

Food seemed good (it was for my daughter, she enjoyed it). Range of options was good, it smelled lovely. The time I spent waiting in the queue wasn’t - approximately 25 minutes, when I joined the queue there were 6 people in it. Absolutely ridiculous, I wouldn’t bother again unless there was only 1 person waiting. Such a shame.

I could smell these hotdogs from the other side of the market and had to have one! The food definitely lived up to the smell. One of the best gourmet hotdogs I've had. The owner was very friendly and had lots of recommendations for the best combo.

Great service, lovely chatty lady served my partner and I. Great range of meat and vegan/vegetarian options. Chuffed with the quality, real belly warmer on a cold day.

No one can resist a good sausage served by an eccentric lady . Staff were different every time too , some cooked the onions better than others ,portions differed too .One girl was so tight I had to request some more . The true and main thing was the freshness of the bun/roll and quality of the sausage ,proper snap and great fresh taste no need for red sugar sauce ect . Several varieties Cooked to order so take a seat its worth the short wait . Nothing like this any where else ,so eat here . Easy to find marked up as food hall within the Shambles and some ones dog tied up to a lamppost every day . Fiver well spent.

As vegetarians its often hard to find street food, and especially hotdogs.

We were looking to grab a quick bite to eat whilst out and about in York. The kiosk was just about to close but the lovely woman serving was happy to make us two hotdogs before shutting up shop. They were delicious and served with a variety of accompaniments; dill pickles, onions etc.

Called by yesterday (Saturday) as the hotdogs looked and sounded fantastic, My partner wanted a vegan dog to which they said it would be a 5 minute wait, which we thought fair enough, 25 minutes later we spotted them starting to cook it ...... 10 more minutes later we decided that if we were still left we were going elsewhere but we were finally called over, Real shame as the hotdog was nice but we couldn’t really enjoy it as had been left waiting so long...

Visited the food court in York today with the family. My daughter and I opted for the Doghouse and weren’t disappointed! The selection of hotdogs were great and the service was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Even our little dog was happy with the dog friendly service and his treat of cheese. Highly recommended %

Absolutely fantastic food and even better customer service. 10/10 would recommend, and we are even considering hiring for our upcoming wedding. Simply wonderful :)

Stopped here for a couple of hot dogs, mid shopping trip in York with the family. The doghouse is located at the back of shambles market, where there are a few street vendors selling food. If you fancy the tastiest of dogs this is the place...fantastic! Fresh, locally sourced dogs, in lovely rolls with choice of relishes etc. Really really tasty. My teenage daughter and son devoured theirs in minutes...and the dogs are quite a size. The two serving..( I think owners) were really friendly and chatty...and I wish them all the very best for their business. I believe they offer a mobile service under the singing pineapple company...am sure the dogs will be as tasty as their permanent stall in the Shambles market.

Lots to choose from in this little street door market; I chose a hot dog and was super glad I did. I had a variation on the Salty Dog and Polish Dog and it was lush! The polish sausage (forgot name) was lovely with salt beef, cheese and mustard on top on a lovely roll. These are not your usual hot dogs, so don't confuse them with what you used to get at the pictures...they're nothing like that. Nice place to sit and eat, with loos just round the corner if you need a wash after (I did)! Lady cooking was helpful, nice, funny and friendly and clearly took a lot of care over her cooking. Will definitely go again next time I'm in York.

They serve "hot dogs", but they are really a variety of large sausages. They have different types of meat and even vegan ones so if you don't like traditional pork sausages you can find something that you like. A wide variety of toppings and the ability to customize your toppings completely. Very tasty and well worth the price. In addition, the stall is dog friendly. My pup got some tasty cheese that she enjoyed. Will definitely go back to try something different.

What a lovely stall in the Shambles Market this is. The woman who makes the hotdogs is so friendly and the vegan options are well thought through. The vegan sausage is delicious and my dog was absolutely loaded with vegan cheese, corn relish, sauerkraut, sauteed onions and other trimmings. The only downside - figuring out how to eat it without looking like a total slob but if I somehow managed not to spill on my jumper, there is hope for everyone ;) thanks so much to all at the Dog House for being so rad to your vegan pals!

Was sceptical until I saw them cook it. All care taken to avoid meat contam8nation and a great line in chat from the girl running the stall. Lovely fresh brown roll.
