The Dog and Gun was always a bit pricey but nice meal. Tonight we went for our wedding anniversary.. The man on the bar fabulous 10/10 chatty, friendly 👍 The meal was 5/10 Prawn cocktail starter.., was so uninspiring iceberg, not enough sauce ! Where is the imagination!! £10 !!!!! Fillet steak I asked for medium … not the best and a bit chewy! .. we asked for the dessert menu and gave up after 30 minutes. And went home!!! The location is stunning! The bar man great The food very average and the waitress same. Sorry but ithe truth. £141 including pre meal drinks which tbh was the highlight sat outside watching the views and sunsets. I’d said I’d go back for my birthday in December but I won’t now.

I chose this place as the menu was diverse, so something for everyone. The chicken liver pate was quite possible the best I've ever tasted, whilst the grilled salmon was absolutely the best I've ever eaten. Massive compliments to the staff, our waitress was adorable and incredibly helpful and the main guy was so welcoming. Can't recommend enough.

The food was fairly decent - my steak was overcooked but was quite thin and tasted ok so it wasn’t a massive issue. The chips were lovely as was the pepper sauce. You get to pick side options which was nice. The drinks however were extortionate. £6.50 for a cider we could get over, It’s a country pub out the way and with costs nowadays I get it having been in the industry almost 20 years. However £15.80 for a double Gordon’s (original) gin and Schweppes tonic (the cheapest brand - a case costs around £12 inc vat) is scandalous. £6 for a single shot when the bottle is about 3/4 times this is just madness. It’s not premium by a long shot. This has put me off going back which is a shame as I’ve visited regularly over the years when passing from being a child.

Visit at your peril. We had booked 2 nights in the hotel attached for Friday, Saturday, breakfast included and booked for the Friday an evening meal . The food was not cooked properly and inedible. When we complained the Landlord/Manager was the rudest Man I have EVER met. In the first instance he told me to be careful because he cooked the breakfasts and when my husband stepped in he told us not to turn up for breakfast and to stay away. We arrived at 3pm on Friday and left at 7pm on Friday. Who on earth does this man think he is. The hotel room was lovely but the landlord of the Dog and Gun needs some serious lessons in attitude management, management of food, customer care and needs to learn how to run a pub!!!!!

We rocked up just after 1pm on the way to Haworth as, while driving by, we saw “country pub” on the A board outside and we assumed that with a name like the Dog and Gun and that kind of USP, that our quiet well behaved black Labrador would be welcome. Not so, it seems. Now every landlord has the absolute right to make his own rules, and a polite “sorry, sir, but we don’t allow dogs in here” would have been fine. This man, landlord I assume, could not have been any ruder. So we will never return, even without the dog. Manners and gracious behaviour cost nothing.

Would have loved to try the food but sadly dogs not allowed! (It’s a shame really as I know most dogs would be nicer than they were!!) Asked why no dogs and was given a load of sarcasm from who I can only presume to be the landlord! I would imagine he wouldn’t have been so had he not had all his locals sat at the bar!! We were told we ‘you can sit outside’ no places outside so had to sit on a stone wall next to the road… Advertised as a ‘country pub, The Dog And Gun… We won’t be testing the food until they get out of the dark ages and into the 21st century!

We have been visiting the Dog & Gun for many years now and can honestly say we have never had a bad meal or poor hospitality. We have visited most recently on 2 consecutive Sundays which says it all.The food is absolutely delicious all home cooked, the specials board is amazing and changes regularly lots of care and attention goes into offering different variations. We always ponder should we try somewhere different? But always revert back to the Dog & Gun. We are lucky to live close by so can visit regularly. Over the years we have introduced other friends/family who have also enjoyed their dining experience. The pub itself is absolutely gorgeous typical country Yorkshire pub, one of the best. I am shocked to read some of the negative comments on here! My only gripe would be if I had to make any would probably be sometimes could do with more vegetables, however I do live with a greedy bunch 🤣 and I have asked in the past for extra which has never been an issue. Well done to all the team at The Dog & Gun!! Your commitment to giving the best dining experience is evident in the number of times we visit, first class quality food and hospitality thank you.

We ate lunch here for the first time today. Staff were not particularly welcoming and we had booked beforehand. Given the choice of bar or restaurant - we chose the latter thinking there would be more room. Only the 'restaurant' menus were on the table and we had to ask for the lighter 'bar snacks' version. The waitress 'whipped' away the' starters cutlery' when we ordered the food and you could say that we felt as though we really should not be sitting in that part of the pub! I had the Yorkshire Pudding (2 smallish sausages in an average Yorkshire) with a basket of quite greasy chips. My wife had the steak sandwich, chips and salad plus a jug of gravy which was OK. I was driving so ordered a cup of 'Americano' - it came in a small cup and cost an unreasonable £4 - surely soft drinks should be less for drivers! The pub was warm and it is in a good scenic location but sorry, we will not be returning as we did not feel to have been made welcome. An opportunity lost, you only make a first impression once.

Booking, com should take Leeming Wells off their website as this promotes the Dog & Gun where breakfast is served for residents next door. The pub was overcrowded with no seats, and the most appalling bar manager I have ever come across. He challenged my vegetarian option for breakfast. He said that this option was not available as vegetarian sausages were "disgusting". The dining area was a 1960's throwback with dated decor and not to mention the bright lights that flooded out the poorly laid tables. Food was disgraceful with a vegetarian lasagne that resembled a bowl of vegetables with dried-up cheese containing no pasta I had to send back my starter due to the poor consistency of a watery sauce with a few floating prawns. The attitude of the staff for sending it back was not nice, I felt threatened. My husbands mixed grill was 'fatty' and looked like defrosted meat. On a positive side the pub was warm, the ale was excellent and it had a nice roaring fire. Let's just say we skipped breakfast and did one. Some you win some you lose.

We have stayed at the Leeming Wells Hotel which is attached to the Dog and Gun a couple of times and each time we have used the pub for breakfast and dinner. It's often pretty busy, despite being out in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, so we would certainly recommend booking in advance. Having said that, one of the nice touches was that the team managed to fit us in on one occasion, despite being really busy - they seem to go the extra mile for hotel residents. The food is way better than many country pubs we have experienced. There is a really good choice of dishes on the normal menu and four or five starter and main course specials. Tuesday is steak night but pescatarians and vegetarians are also well catered for in the deal, which includes a bottle of wine per couple. Each time we've eaten there we have been impressed by the quality of the food on offer and it's also beautifully presented - very much gastropub style. The quality of the ingredients stands out and clearly a great deal of thought and imagination has gone into the menus. We would also say that, bearing in mind the quality of food on offer, the Dog and Gun represents very good value. The stand-out for us though is the front of house team. We have always had a warm welcome and the service is really efficient. One of us has special dietary needs and Hetty, in particular, was amazing in recommending suitable dishes - it's really refreshing to find someone with such a detailed knowledge of a menu and ingredients. The kitchen team were also very helpful in adapting some dishes to suit - nothing seemed too much trouble. Altogether, we were very impressed with the Dog and Gun and recommend it highly as a place you shouldn't miss if you're in the area.

Been before a few times, and the food is as good as ever no real complaints here. But one thing is lacking real ale. There is a massive selection out there I'm not sure if you are tied to a brewery if you are that explains the lack of choice. There are lots of pubs in the Halifax area selling craft beers. Although Taylors is OK it is pretty run-of-the-mill. Ossett Brewery, Vocation, Goose Eye, and Halifax Steam to name but a few produce some outstanding brews usually at a good price, and the local economy benefits.

Excellent meal (Fillet Steak & Belly Pork - must have a very good chef), very well presented by friendly competent staff, mid week, quite busy but not rammed. Some recent reviews almost put us off & mentioned a less than friendly landlord. Certainly a bit of the Yorkshire rough edge there & he seems more at home with his regulars at the end of the bar! Good line up of beers but my favourite (Landlord by TT) a bit OTT price wise at £6 a pint. Would call again on our experience; recommended.

We live local so thought we would finally try here. The prices are high so we expected good quality food. Unfortunately it was average at best, similar to a chain run pub instead of a lovely country pub. The chips were hard, the overall taste...

A perfect weekend away - the accommodation was spotless. The beer was very reasonable price wise but on top form. We had the £30 steak deal on Friday night. You choose your breakfast the night before but it is flexible. The landlord is a true...

I was looking for somewhere new to try that was dog friendly, that wasn’t too far away. I searched for the previous pub name as always wanted to try it and realised it was under new management. When we arrived it wasn’t busy but we had a warm greeting and had a choice of tables. The decor is really nice and cosy and our dog was given a bowl of water. We chose from the grill menu which was exceptional value and included a drink, chose Madri. We both had sirloin steak with all the trimmings including sauce and it was really good, piping hot and tasty. As it was a warm night we ordered another drink and sat outside overlooking the amazing view. We will be back for grill night and to try the main menu which had reasonable prices for food and wine. We aim to support local business and have told friends about this place, some have booked for next week already. If you want a good country pub without rip off prices (which most seem to have) then give this a try. Inside has fires and twinkly lights which will be lovely in winter. Service was welcoming and friendly and we are looking forward to our next visit. We will get a taxi so we can have a few drinks. No photos of the food but here is one of the view.

What a shame; so much history and absolute pride of place on this beautiful high street and the owners have created an absolutely soulless tourist trap with zero character 😔 having said that, prices weren't too expensive for the area so not all bad I guess.

Home From Home is one of four cafes in Kirkgate Market. I had a Full English breakfast which was well cooked and presented with toast and a cup of tea, friendly service, clean and good value.
