There were 5 of us, all friends. We had different meals. The food we thought was average. They do not do French Fries - what a shame. The service was excellent. Pity on emeal was forgotten and had to remind staff. That should not happen.

We attended today for a wake and were very impressed with the service. Kathryn was so kind and made the booking process so seamless at a time that is naturally difficult. The food and designated area were all set up for our arrival and the bar staff were very friendly and attentive. The Victoria sponge was incredible and all the food was tasty and fresh. Thank you

My daughter and I returned to the Dog and Bacon for lunch on Thursday and both sampled different things from the home-cooked menu. As before, the lady behind the bar was very attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was beautifully hot, well presented and quick to be served. We will be back with other family members soon. Thank you.

Certainly not the warmest welcome I've encountered...and to add insult to injury they are overly expensive, I wouldn't mind but it's a bit tatty too. You can quite clearly see the huge profits are not being spent on giving the customers a more satisfying visit.

We have been in this pub several times with no issues, we have 2 large dogs and the bar staff have been great, this time however we ran up against the land lady, I had gone on ahead and bought our drinks as soon as the dogs came in she told us to drink up and leave. Now as I said they are large dogs however there wasn't many in the bar in fact it was pretty empty, the only problem we have with the dogs is everyone wants to come over and see them, not that they mind of course, they are very friendly and love people. It is of course the owners right to ask us to leave which we did, however it was done in a very unpleasant way, no explanation just drink up and leave

So after a brief phone call to confirm availability, we once again headed to The Dog and Bacon ,where a very warm welcome awaited us.after a brief perusal of the menu, we both decide to go for the roast's on offer. My friend decided on chicken, whilst i deemed the beef a good choice. We chose our refreshment from the well stocked bar and awaited our foods arrival. We were not disappointed, this arrived after only 17 minutes, and was well presented, hot and with a range of condiments.this was extremely good , great value ,and very welcome as we had both been very hungry. we ,once again found the bar staff extremely helpful .the food was great and our appetite's appeased. This isn't fine dining ,but it doesn't profess to be .It's just great pub food, in a welcoming environment, serving some great well kept ales .

My friend and I visited for Sunday lunch, we have often dropped in for a quick drink in the past as the beer here is always well looked after, but we had previously never actually tried the food. It turns out we have been missing out, we both chose the Sunday roast and were very pleased, food arrived quickly, was perfectly sized and was hot and freshly prepared. We really couldn't fault the service, which was attentive and discrete Good value for money, would recommend.

I would like to rate the food and drinks for this pub. Stopped off for Sunday lunch on way to Gatwick. Waited at bar. Several locals drinking pints at bar but nobody behind it. I visited the ladies, husband waited at bar. Husband went to loo I waited at the bar. Still no service. Asked the locals who ‘didn’t know where she was’ waited another 5 minutes and left. Nice clean toilets- thank you for the facilities but a 15 minute wait at an empty bar was too much for us. We have a plane to catch!

Had an evening meal with friends. Top marks on the Prosecco at only £16 a bottle, and the cleanliness of the pub. However, the food was very average. Steak and kidney pudding, which was very nice, was accompanied by about 20 new potatoes??? Liver was acceptable but was covered in a sauce that was very glutenish and almost set. Fish and chips was ok, but the fish looked like Birds Eye portions. The meals were very big, which can be so off putting. Less is more

So my other half treated me to a birthday lunch and we went to the dog and bacon. Parking was fine and easy to find. The Diet Coke in itself had a bit of a funky taste to it but it does normally seem to vary from pub to pub. The menu seemed to be fairly limited with less traditional pub food that we expected. As we couldn't see a main that we fancied (I am a little bit fussy but as above menu wasn't great) we ordered a starter each. I had potato skins- very greasy, fatty bacon and only a small amount of what could appear to be potato for quite abit of money! The other half had a nacho chilli thing- he said it was greasy and the cheese was funky! Decor okay, seats aren't particularly comfortable. Bar lady/waitress was pleasant.

What looks like a lovely country pub from the outside is anything but inside. A totally confused decor that seems to have been furnished with anything they can get their hands on, mainly 70s men's club, sums this place up. Visited for a quiet pint and was stared at by the 'locals' the entire time I was stood at the bar as the effed and blinded and dropped cement off their clothes. The staff couldn't have been less welcoming or the beer poured more ineptly. Avoid like the plague.

It was good to see our advice had been taken notice of and the chips came up in a side bowl which was well presented.Once again as we left our friends who we see only on the odd occasions with the words from our last visit,,WE WILL RETURN.

This person & his "friends" called in to this pub on Saturday 17th. January, (about the only correct fact to his story) at 10.55. P.M. (please note the time!) The reason they were asked to be quick (as the landlady pointed out to them) was that last orders had been called 5 minutes before these people had arrived. Why were they so late in getting here- was it that they might have been asked to leave the other pub mentioned due to their arrogant, rude & selfish manner I ask myself & they thought they could take their attitude into the Dog & Bacon & upset not only the landlord & landlady, but the "local" as well? not to mention the barmaid who had only started there that very evening. No one told these arrogant people not to use empty seats, but when they did, they made sure that they bashed them against the table which I (the "local") was sitting at and made me worry that I was going to lose what beer was left in my glass, as by now time at the bar had been called. The T.V. was turned off around this time (after time had been called)- which is the right of the landlady to do, as it is her pub- not theirs. Late comers remember? The "local" (me again) felt very intimidated by two of this rabble, as they kept looking at me, and then sniggering at each other. I tried not to react to this until I noticed it happening a third time, at which I remarked "is there something wrong?" which (at last) finished this nonsense from them.Apart from this, the staff or owner did not give any dirty looks or abuse to these people. All that was happening around these people was the staff were clearing up & wiping the tables, etc. as is done in most other pubs at this time. But by now , I was so fed up with the attitude of these people, I moved to the other bar, finished the rest of my drink and went home.Since this happened, I was informed about this pack of lies on this page by this Glen J, but was also told by the people concerned in this that these people had the neck to go up to the bar at 11.15 P.M. & asked to have another drink- did they think they were going to get a lock in & because they were refused, is this the reason for this rubbish appearing on the previous "review."A couple of points on this business, you spell "were" like this, & not "where," so perhaps some spelling lessons might come in handy in future! Why did you wait until the Monday to write your tale of woe- did you use your firms equipment & electricity to save your own & does your boss know you use their stuff (in their time) which is surely not the done thing is it? Shame on "Trip Advisor" for allowing nonsense by these sort of people in the first place. Genuine people, such as this landlord & landlady could lose their business due to these types & your rubbish site!!!!

From this point on it was awful, never been anywhere so rude and unwelcoming, told we could not use empty seats and TV was immediately turned off. One of the locals was very rude to a female in our party and i have never received so many dirty looks from staff and owner in my life. We where clearly not welcome as the owner wanted to shut up quickly which begs the question why tell us they where still open. No wonder so many pubs are closing down if this is the sort of treatment good paying customers are getting." GIVE THIS ONE A MISS"

Dropped into tha Dog & Bacon following a terrible six hour journey from Wiltshire, due to major issues on the M25 causing most of the trunk routes through Surrey to become gridlocked. The original plan was to dine in an Indian restaurant before flying off to the USA. However, as the hours dragged on, we decided to stop a the next welcoming looking pub and so happened upon the Dog & Bacon. We both chose the steak pudding, mash potato and vegetables, as our last bit of British, before travelling to The States. The staff were very friendly, the atmosphere good and the food certainly hit the spot.

Having only just recently started visiting the Dog & Bacon I'm amazed that I have only just discovered this gem of a pub! The garden is lovely on a sunny day, I recently visited with the family after an afternoon stroll and we sat out in the sunshine and had some lunch. We ordered a roast which was lovely and even my hard to please brother who is a chef thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Since that time we have returned on several occasions and always had a great meal and a lovely welcome from the staff. The food is reasonably priced, tasty and the service quick and friendly. I'm really surprised by the negative review that precedes mine as I've never had a bad experience there and wonder why if you didn't like the food or service you'd return 3 times, have to wonder if it's a personal attack rather than an authentic review as sadly this seems common practise!

We moved to Horsham earlier this year and hoped that this would be a nice friendly local for us, as it's only a few minutes walk, but unfortunately it's got a lot of work to do. Maybe nice to have a beer in the garden when the sun's out, but not much else from my experience. On the first visit I had a burger and my partner a Sunday roast, but both were below average. Poorly cooked and probably a lot of frozen, cheap produce. I've also had a simple cheese & ham baguette here when returning to watch a football game, but even that was terrible. How hard is it get that right? When you're filling a baguette with shop bought grated cheese (dry & bland), you can't really claim to care about the taste of the food. Unfortunately the service has also been poor on the three times I've been. Very unwelcoming when we had a baby with us, slow to serve and it generally seems like they don't really care about attracting new regulars. I wouldn't post a negative review based on one visit (everyone has bad days), but after three I think it's fair enough - hopefully the feedback will be taken on board, but I'd be very surprised if the landlord/lady actually reads these reviews.

I called in her whilst out on my own for a quick lunch, as I walked in the door a nicely written chalk board mentioned traditional home cooked meals upon which was listed gammon, egg and chips with peas or salad. I opted for this as it sounded delicious. To my dismay the meal did not live up to expectations I was served with tinned chopped and reformed ham onto which was slapped a couple of undercooked fried eggs which left the "ham" dripping in smelly oil. The meal slid about on the plate there was so much oil and the smell was not at all appetizing, I'm attaching a picture so that you can see I am not exaggerating. If the server had bothered to re visit me to ask if I was satisfied I would have let him know but he was not at all concerned. Upon leaving I was not even acknowledged. I will never return.

The food is average OK unexciting fills-a-gap pub food and the place doesn't seem to have been decorated in the 40 years I've known it which is the very worst aspect of it. It's also quite cold - you need to keep on your outdoor coat most of the time. If you're desperate, it will serve the purpose but you really wouldn't choose to go here if you had the option of other places in the town.

We just moved in the area and wanted to try local places for Sunday dining. The Dog and the Bacon was the very first we visited since it is almost next door to us.It was not a good experience, really. The restaurant room, as well as the bar area, are unappealing, just like the food. The starters looked like industrial (pate) and absolutely tasteless. It may well be they had bought at a local supermarket and simply unpacked before serving. For the main, my partner went for a roast: the beef was incredibly chewy and she gave up on it.I went for a burger that was not much better because of its smell (very, very unpleasant). We left before having finished our dishes and it is very unlikely we'll be back there before long. The staff was alright and that pub may be just good for having a drink on the outdoor terrace in Summer. Prices are relatively low.

Scruffy interior - not clean. We ordered lunch and sat outside. Was given a box of cutlery condiments with various sauces to carry to our table outside. , the dispenser lid of the mustard was black with ancient sticky dried on mustard and dirt. i told the one member of staff who apologised, took it away, threw it in the bin behind the bar, but did not replace . No salt or pepper. Waited nearly an hour to be served.. food was dumped on our table with no apology. My sea bass was served swimming in oil. No waiting on tables ourside so not easy to complain after such a long wait. Moved inside as we were cold and asked for a coffee - the same one member of staff who was behind the bar as well as serving food, looked shocked and seemed nervous of such a request but agreed to try to make us one coffee and one tea but then came to our table o say she couldn't work the machine - so no hot drinks!! We left and will not be returning.i regretted paying up front for such a poorly cooked and presented and delayed lunch.
