Very disappointed the place is extremely run down including the toilets. The floor is disgusting, the carpet is threadbare which you stick to as you walk. Booked for 2.30 pm only to be told no roasts until 3pm. Served wine spritzer in a pint glass. Food okay although cauliflower cheese very tough. Would not recommend needs a very deep clean.

Staff were friendly enough. Good however was definitely not worth the money. 3 Sunday roasts, everything overcooked except for the peas & carrots which was the best thing on the plate! The cauliflower cheese however was raw, you could get a knife or a fork into it!

Came here with my family for lunch walked past the kitchen there was stuff on the floor looked liked a teenage chef the food was horrible we all had a roast the meat was chewy and undercooked, i could barely cut the potatoes in half.red cabbage was really watery and the gravy was watery to. The bathrooms were tiny and disgusting the toilet roll was on top of the wall,it was cold and creepy. there is a doorbell right next to our table from the kitchen. the carpets and tables were ridiculously sticky i struggled picking up the menu because it was too sticky . i would not recommend this pub to anyone they need to sort this pub out ASAP.

Stayed while walking the Cotswold Way. Sunday night stay. Room was large and spacious, clean, though did smell a little of damp. We ate in the bar, and food was served quickly and to a pleasant pub-food standard. Would be happy to stay here again if in the area.

Just had a wonderful meal at the Dog Inn. This has been a favourite of my parents for some time as the food and service has always been good. We could not fault the prawn cocktail or the salt and pepper squid. My main meal of ‘mussels a la dog’ was superb with a delicious cheesy sauce and came with chips and a dressed side salad. The courses are generous so we had no room for a dessert. We will definitely return and look forward to trying out the many fish dishes on offer.

Unfortunately during our lunch my friend found a black hair on her plate. Not wanting to make a fuss I just asked for her plate to be taken away. I really expected when we had the bill, at the very least a deduction would be made but amazingly not. I sent a private email stating this expecting st the very least an apology but again NO. No reply to my email. Terrible customer service & certainly won’t be returning or recommending to anyone.

A very dog friendly, traditional old pub with character. We stayed for two nights with our two dogs and the accommodation provided everything we needed for our stay. A good base for exploring the local area. The bar was busy with couples and small groups having meals both nights we were there so it’s clearly popular with the locals. We ate there ourselves and enjoyed our meals. Good chips! The breakfast was very good indeed.

This pub is a well run establishment that does amazing food. We stayed in Old Sodbury for 3 nights and ate here every evening. Had a different choice each time and they were all really good. The Lamb was my favourite really tasty 😋. The staff were very friendly and polite too making you feel really welcome

There were 15 of us for a family meal, we had a mixture of roasts, curry and burger meals, the curry was tasteless didn't taste of anything at all, every single roast dinner had really tough meat we all had different meat it was all so chewy I gave up with my lamb in the end! My partner had a burger and it was like an old welly boot, the bun was as flat as a pancake! You'd expect a really nice meal for the prices here but you'd get a better meal going to a chain pub like weatherspoons and its better value for money! I've noticed since August 2021 in the reviews the majority of them have said the exact same thing and clearly the owner doesn't take this on board and get a chef who can actually cook!

So easy to find with plenty of parking! Stayed here with the family and our dog over night and the rooms were clean and very comfortable. Enjoyed an evening meal (would fully recommend the leek and potato soap) - a great range of dishes to choose from. Finished with an all day breakfast before carrying on with our journey!

Absolutely the worst meal I've had at the dog, cauliflower cheese was thin and runny, the lamb my husband had was tough vegetables not very interesting, roast potatoes poor, tasted like they had been rewarmed, my vegetarian option was nasty tough pastry and tasteless filling. Won't be going again.

Just arrived home after visiting the Dog Inn. I decided to have the sunday lunch and opted for roast beef, but oh did I regret this decision. The beef was tough and full of gristle, bulk standered vegetables peas, carrots, 1 meager sprig of broccoli and some very watery red cabbage. The Yorkshire pudding was clearly shop bought and not home made. This was an extremely poor example of a sunday lunch despite the price of £15.95. I made the waiter aware of my thoughts, he apologised and said he would inform the kichen staff. I would certainly no recommend the Dog Inn for sunday lunch, extremely disappointing.

I visited The Dog Inn with a friend for a birthday celebration. We chose this particular pub due to the good reviews it had gor the food. Unfortunately, this was not our experience. We both had the slow cooked lamb shank (one of the most expensive items on the menu). The food looked lovely and the accompanying mash and veg was tasty. However, the lamb was obviously not cooked for long enough as it was impossible to get it off the bone. We had to hack at it to get any meat at all and when we did get a morsel, it was still full of fat and gristle. The majority if the lamb was left on our plates. We told our server we were very disappointed with the meal and he apologised. When we settled the bill, we were told the kitchen had been informed of our comments and they were sorry. We were not offered anything else to eat and were told they had no authority to reduce the price. I emailed the pub when I got home to say how disappointed we were and have had no response at all. I felt bad for my friend who had saved up to take me out for a birthday treat and ended up spending her money on such a poor meal. I accept that everyone has a bad meal from time to time but both meals were awful and our complaint should have been dealt with more professionally. Had it been, we would be more likely to give it another go. Needless to say, I would not recommend this pub.

Our Walking Group had a pre arranged lunch arranged with the Pub and we all parked in the large Parking area. After the walk we had a reserved table in the pleasant and rustic bar area. The lunchtime menu is pretty extensive and very reasonably priced. The service was swift and well organised for the party of 1O having lunch. Everyone commented favourably on the food quality and portion size. I had Gammon, egg and excellent chips which got top marks from me. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Lasagne. To conclude, this Pub got it absolutely right on all aspects of the lunch visit. Any organised Walk in this locality will certainly include another visit.

We chose this place purely on the recommendation of the write of a book about Cotswolds walks. The book was written a while ago but the menu lives up to its reputation. My companion had a ham sandwich which had nearly half a pig in it - slight exaggeration. I had prawn sandwich and the overall feeling was very satisfactory. I had a beer from Wickwar - very good. The toilets are a let down - not in keeping and more like a motorway station - clean! but disappointing. The book said service was slow (it was a little) but the quality of the food made up - it did.Would definitely visit again and the walk was good too.

Three of us visited at lunchtime today. One Scampi off the lunch menu, swordfish steak off the fish board and sea bass fillets. All cooked to order piping hot and delicious. Swordfish steak moist and tender. One of the best I’ve eaten. Same for the sea bass. Good selection of well cooked, not over cooked, vegetables and wonderful chunky chips which stayed hot to the end. Nice bottle of French Merlot and smooth coffee. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We will return. It’s great to find a pub with such a wide choice of fish. Very pleasant service too.

This is an old pub that has been extended. The rooms are fine and the food & beers on offer are typical of a UK country pub. There is adequate off road car parking. The key advantage of this pub is its' location for walkers. The pub is right on the Cotswold Way as it crosses the A432 road and 21 miles of walking away from the end destination of Bath in front of the Abbey church. Another advantage is that the regular 620 bus to/from central Bath bus station departs/arrives from right outside the pub. There are also infrequent buses to & from Wotton-Under-Edge from the very same bus stops outside the Dog inn. Wotton-Under-Edge is nearly 12 miles along the Cotswold Way from Old Sodbury.

We had steaks here and to be honest they came out and looked very good!!! Started eating and these steaks were far from good!!! Had a lot of gristle and were quite tough, the peppercorn sauce had hardly any taste!! I asked for some wholegrain mustard and the waiter brought out English mustard and asked is this it??? The onion rings were soggy like they had just been taken from the freezer and not cooked properly!! We sent them back and the new ones came out exactly the same!!! To be fair they did refund the money for them. Overall sorry guys won't be coming again!!

Went here for lunch on a recent visit to England. Meal was good and plentiful so was the beer! This is a traditional old pub in a charming area of the country just what an American wants to see, I had been to a lot of the newish pubs and was happy to find the real deal here. Dog at his master's feet at the bar, roaring fireplace and pleasant staff made for a great day.

Forward to my dinner, ordered the same as the bloke next to me. However when mine arrived it had a handful of chips, whereas the chap adjacent had a sack full of chipped tatties in comparison. Seriously, the portion was fine, its just you have to be consistent. Would be nice to have warm plates though. The other 1/2 enjoyed a fishy special. We will definitely go back, lovely this time of year with an open fire. Staff friendly as are the landlords. Good car parking. Doggies welcome for you pooch lovers. Go on give it a go, get dogging!

After a couple of disappointing visits under the old management I was persuaded to visit again last Friday 24th June now the new owners were firmly established. I was surprised to see how busy it was having visited in the past on Fridays and the atmosphere felt right for this lovely old pub. The food was very good and it was nice not to hear the jukebox music that was becoming very noticeable under the old management. I have nothing against music but I did hate having to listen to it at lunchtime as the speakers were/are badly placed above tables when I was just wanting a catch-up with friends over lunch. I enjoyed my visit so much I will definitely be going back and I think the new owners were very nice.

Having read the glowing reviews thought we would try this. Good car parking. Decent own Dogs Best ale. Traditional pub interior. However ordered a Lamb burger, simple enough. It arrived after a 45 minute wait. It was just that a burger in bun, with a few chips and some iceberg lettuce and tomato salad with a tiny pot of tzatziki. I have had better food in Wetherspoons. Desserts freshly defrosted. Come on guys this is the Cotswolds there's far better pubs than this, you need to up your game. Never again.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here on Monday night with friends. We visit Bath fairly regularly and enjoyed a meal here before our homeward journey. It is a "proper traditional pub" with a bar and tables for eating, rather than a glorified restaurant with no time for locals. We usually go for the excellent fresh fish menu which does not disappoint. Portions are generous. I had the whole plaice, a good choice. Very fresh and beautifully cooked.

If you're coming down wet and cold off the Cotswold Way this should suit you just fine.

Food is very good with generous portions but please be aware that reservations can not be booked in advance so it is best to arrive early to get a table. This is one of those UK pubs/restaurants that you stumble upon and realize you have discovered an outstanding find. The menu is traditional pub food. The pub patrons are mostly local residents. The quality of the meal I enjoyed, high standards of service and friendliness of the surroundings-both pub staff and local patrons- make for a memorable experience. Unfortunately, it appears to us this cafe is no longer in business..we walked completely around the several buildings in the vicinity after completing a leg of our Cotswold Way walk and awaiting transportation. There was no signage indicating a cafe either. Additionally the website link is defunct also. If I'm mistaken and we simply couldn't find it or some other reason, apologies and best of luck to others (and disregard the single star of course).
