The Doctors Orders in Sheffield

This pub has really gone down hill since I last visited. Visited in September 2024 and it was dirty and dilapidated. No issues with the service really friendly, but with so many better pubs in the area, not worth visiting in its current state.

Sunday evening, the place was empty. I've had some great nights in this pub but it looks really down at heel now. The carpet is filthy and the walls have gaps where the previous owners have clearly taken down pictures. Furniture is ramshackle, torn seats etc. Channel 4 on TV screen with subtitles. The person behind the bar was watching TV on their laptop. It just felt completely soulless! A great building, full of character, right in the heart of the city. Such a shame.

New landlady, mother behind bar and she was very sociable. This place is worth visiting

Strongbow in Shefield at £3 a pint, pub might be basic but for a cheap pint.

This pub used to be fantastic a few years ago, but has gone down hill so badly post lockdown with no decent beer and a series of terrible landlord/lady choices, the current one being the worst yet, he doesn't seem to want to be there and is grumpy and rude and resentful towards customers just for being on the premises, it now has a very odd uncomfortable atmosphere that I wouldn't recommend as you're made to feel completely unwelome. Might be time for him to consider a career change as customer facing really isn't his thing!

Newly re-opened. In student area. Good prices on drinks. No food as yet.

I came alone, the bar staff were so friendly I was a bit sceptical to come alone but felt welcomed as soon as I walked in, the manager 'G' catered to my every need! Recommend this place to anyone!! Don't think it gets the recognition it needs will 100000% be coming back again and again!!

New owners have really cleaned up the place. So much nicer. Friendly service and cheap prices. What not to like.

Was a bit empty when we visited but it was early Saturday evening. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Lovely old building but a bit sparce at the moment, but I think it's only just been taken over. Bit of colour on the walls might take away the under-funded youth club look. I would go back.

Quiet during the day but good beer.

This pub used to be a nice place, it seems to have gone downhill recently complete with a battle axe of a landlady. Standards have slipped a long way, it may be hard to return to the glory days. Whoever is in charge needs to change things quickly before she runs a former favourite into the ground. I wouldn't normally recommend a chain but the Wetherspoons 200m away is far nicer, much more welcoming and provides service with a smile at a fair price.

Very quiet nice staff but tables could be cleaner they were quite sticky.

Under new management and now a friendly clean and welcoming pub, karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays and quiz Sunday, good drink prices and getting frequently busy, pop in

Lovely traditional pub warm and friendly, excellent location with it being so close to town and the children’s hospital. Good selection of drinks on offer .

Now under new management, the doctors orders is now a clean friendly well stocked with a warm welcome awaiting customers old and new.

Smelly. Music too loud. Not for me.

Don’t pay staff on time. Poor attitude towards staff. Smells like dog and never no liquor behind the bar.

So the pub itself could be wonderful. Beautiful building with a lot of history. Unfortunately the owners seem to be more interested in turning the place into a popular student dive, except the students aren’t interested and neither is anyone else. Impersonating the pied piper they seem to think their empty rooms and extremely loud music will have the punters running in like a hoard of zombies. Sadly it continues to be a noisy nuisance to the local community, even more annoying because no one is enjoying themselves inside or out other than the manager.

Very bad experience, the place stunk as soon as we stepped foot in there, bartender was incredibly rude said he couldn’t be bothered to change the barrels laughed at me for asking for gluten free beer and said he can only serve us Heineken. Later that night one of us accidentally smashed a glass and we went to let him know to which he said “it’s only one I don’t care” 👎🏼👎🏼

This place used to be good, so make sure you check most recent reviews. It now smells really bad like it doesn't have any cleaning. Staff appear to be drunk and make up drink prices on the spot. My worst ever experience occurred 10/06/22 when the horrible bar tender challenged me for wearing a face mask and ridiculed me in front of another customer. Could be, and has been, a great venue; but under its current 'management' it should be avoided at all costs.

Great local pub for uni and RHH staff

Not sure what has happened but this place is weird and empty now. Smells like dogs and the beer was off. I feel bad saying this because I'm sure this could be great, it's in a great location and maybe just needs a bit of support and patience.

Extremely friendly staff, a large selection of drinks at affordable prices. Owners will welcome you with open arms and make you feel comfortable. Honestly cannot rate them highly enough. Karaoke is fab on a Friday too!

Had an party here and they provided Karaoke which was great fun! Good prices at the bar and a good selection of beers and spirits. Doesn't look great from the outside, but worth dropping in and staying around.

Fantastic place, really friendly and you can even take your own food in ... definitely a winner!!!

Al ingresar al pub, realmente hace honor a su nombre y realmente nos encantaron las pequeñas peculiaridades que tenía el pub.El lugar era realmente tranquilo, pero eso no nos desanimó de ordenar, ¡y nos alegramos mucho de haberlo hecho! Las bebidas calientes que se ofrecen eran realmente sabrosas, y el menú del almuerzo también era bastante extenso, ¡nos resultó difícil decidir qué queríamos!Cuando finalmente decidimos qué comida pedir, nos llegó muy rápido; hacía calor y parecía hecho en casa, hecho con mucho cuidado.Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra experiencia en este pub, y el servicio también fue excelente. Definitivamente vamos a volver, y por el precio, ¡realmente vale la pena una visita!

The context here is we visited January Lunch time. Food service was very poor had to remind them several times and the place was empty. Pub lease was up for sale can’t say that’s a surprise

Booked a table in advance and on arrival decided to have a drink before committing! It was a fairly quiet pub for a Sunday afternoon in such a busy area, but has a laid back, casual feel which was nice.The drinks were reasonable -although only 2 red wines to choose from. It's a real shame the place isn't a bit better maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful. Ordered our food, from memory, choice of beef or pork at about 9.99pp. Both of us went for the beef and despite the long wait of around 35 minutes, the food was really good. Beef, Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, mash, carrots, green beans, stuffing and gravy plus really good horseradish! Enjoyed the food and drink but due to the cosmetic side of the venue probably wouldn't return. If you're just looking for somewhere to get a Sunday lunch then it's not bad at all and would recommend.

Después de algunas picaduras desagradables nos dimos cuenta de que no podíamos comer esto, así que fui al bar y les informé que la comida estaba seca y salada, por lo que no pudimos terminarla. Recibí una disculpa rápida del barman y luego una pausa incómoda. No se intentó rectificar la situación.Luego nos fuimos y no volveremos.¡Dale a esta una señorita amigos!

We entered the pub from the terrible weather outside with excitement at the prospect of a lovely roast which the internet assured us would be amazing. We arrived and sat down and saw some people’s lunches and it did look good- we were happy and even more excited! However, it all went downhill when we tried to order a Coca Cola. We asked for a coke and a latte as well as a menu. My friend is a coeliac so the menu part was quite important. They managed to give us a menu but there was no dietary advice and after what ensued we felt we couldn’t trust the staff to advise us on this. We asked for the coke and it took 5 attempts and one wrong drink to get what I ordered correct. We went back to our table and were assured the coffee would be brought over. This never materialised and I went to go and find my coffee. I asked the barman and he said he would do it now for me... so it hadn’t even been started and never would have done if I hadn’t have asked. I was then given a milky coffee with no froth. It wasn’t a latte- it was just a coffee. In short we have finished our drinks whilst writing this review and have decided to go elsewhere.

The Doctor's Orders is a good real ale pub,it is the brewery tap of the Little Critters Brewery..Beer is reasonably priced.They did not seem to have any Little Critters beers on tap when me and my Wife visited,which was a little disappointing but the choice of ales they had was good.We did not try the food so I cannot comment on this.

Visited here with a bunch of friends and we didn't eat. The beers were fine and the staff friendly enough, but the place felt a bit tatty and not overly clean.

Came here for a few drinks (I’m currently here writing this) and got a spiced rum & coke for £3.00! Not bad right? They do discount too!

Reservado para mi primer Día de la Madre después de buenas críticas. Al hacer la reserva, notificamos que necesitaríamos una trona. A la llegada, nos ofrecieron bebidas antes de mostrarnos a nuestra mesa. Nuevamente les informamos que necesitábamos una trona para que nos dijeran que todas las sillas estaban en uso y que pasaría algún tiempo antes de que se convirtieran en libres (los invitados solo habían pedido comida).

I called in last night with a friend for supper and a beer. The place was quiet but lovely and tidy. The staff were friendly and the ales well kept - a good range on offer. We both sampled the spicy chicken burger which definitely had a kick to them but not to much and they were served on plates rather than a shovel or a bucket - the chips were lovely. Overall, I would recommend this venue...

We popped in for a sunday lunch..

I went on a Sunday so it was extremely quiet. The interior of the pub seems to be extremely old, however this did not affect the food, I ordered the roast beef and this was perfectly cooked with great roasted potatoes. The broccoli was slightly underdone as it was pretty hard, but the carrots were nicely glazes and sweet.

We looked for places to eat ahead of attending an event nearby. The Doctor's Orders received good ratings so we decided to give it a try. We were really glad that we did.

Headline says it all...when we go out for a few beers, it'd be nice not to pay prices far higher than the Broomhill pubs....

My boyfriend and I came last night for a meal. Not only were they showing the football (a bonus we didn’t know about) but the food we ordered was absolutely incredible! I had the veggie burger and my boyfriend had the Yorkshire pudding burrito, we’ll be recommending this place to all our friends! And the chips were something else. Absolutely amazing and will be back very soon!

Like the name but the treats on the menu wouldn't please most doctors. However who cares. Great food. I had the pie with lots of meat and a top placed on afterwards. Chips are very tasty.

Lovely Sunday Lunch, homemade Yorkshire puddings, extra gravy and plenty of meat & Veg, Very polite staff. Only 2 Car Parking spaces these probably taken by Staff. Large Q-Park car park straight across road with ample parking at a price. Highly Recommended

Went here last Friday for our society Christmas meal. Food was great and affordable(would recommend the Yorkshire pudding burrito). We had some complication with the booking but the staff were very helpful and it was all resolved quickly and didn't affect the enjoyment of the meal. All the staff are very kind and welcoming.

Excellent service, dreadful Sunday lunch. Tiny portions, bizarre inedible stuffing. Only saved by the delicious puddings & lovely foh staff.

Was disappointed with The Doctors Orders. Soup of the day was served cold and we had to send it back. Sunday roast was nothing special with only one small slice of pork. Won’t be rushing back.

The Sunday roast today was ok. Quite a generous serving which would have been more enjoyable if it had been served hot. The beef was pink & difficult to cut, sharper knives may have helped & the accompanying sausage meat stuffing unusual. Not many veg but the red cabbage had a pleasant different flavour & the Yorkshires were good. Apple & blackberry crumble with custard was good too. I can definitely recommend the milk stout with hazelnut flavouring. It's definitely a student type pub & the staff are lovely, very pleasant & helpful.

Busier than normal and the service reflected that, but the things that werent quite up to standard they more than compensated for, woulnt hesitate to book again

Me and the BF went for Sunday lunch. I had the beef and he had the pork. We were both extremely happy with our food, it was absolutely delicious! We both had the bread and butter pudding and agreed its the best we've had.

Went to this pub based on the trip advisor ratings. The food was ok but nothing special.Certainly not a top 5 place to eat in Sheffield. There are loads of pubs serving exactly the same standard food .

Table was sticky - obviously not well cleaned. Had to wait over 40 mins for a burger, despite the place being quiet. Over priced. Bar staff were very friendly though.

Fuimos por recomendación de un amigo que notó su posición en los 20 mejores restaurantes de Sheffield. Realmente bien situado, buena línea de sus propias cervezas elaboradas, aunque podría hacer con una línea de barril de artesanía para complementar las cervezas y sidras elaboradas macro. Las televisiones con fútbol fueron una buena adición.

We reviewed this venue at length on TripAdvisor. We will not repeat it here. We could not recommend, although of course this is subjective.

No somos personas perniciosas, pero fuimos a almorzar a las Órdenes del Doctor en base a revisiones anteriores, y solo podemos decir que no volveríamos de nuevo.

Very good roast dinner, service a touch slow but who minds when the food was so good. I think we'll be back again :)

Three of us arrived for lunch without booking, and the barmaid was welcoming and helpful. I had a veggie burger which consisted of sweet potato and sweet corn in a crisp polenta coating, with smoked cheese and a mild salsa. It was absolutely delicious, as were the triple-cooked homemade chips. My son noticed spirits were a good price, and that Xbox type games were available to use during quieter periods. Parking was easy in the nearby QPark multi-storey car park, and I think we'll be back!

Such a good Sunday roast. Really good quality food in a relaxed surrounding. The cauliflower cheese side is a must!

Yet more delicious bounty from this pub; popped in for a slice of homemade chocolate and stout cake made with the beer that they brew locally. Smashing. Went in for round 2 with a nice Malbec from the revamped menu and was in cake heaven. Had to tap out before I could tackle the Sunday roast that I could see being served to other tables....but I'll be back. Superb.

Great location to meet my daughter who has just started at Sheffield University. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Hearty, traditional food, well cooked, generous portions. The Doctor's Orders is dog friendly, which was an important consideration for us.

Doctors Orders looks good but like a proper bar. So I wasn't expecting much from the food there. Luckily, I was wrong. My salad with salmon & crab cake was impressive. Food was recommended by a charming waitress Daria and served quickly. They have a good selection of beer and a few unique liqueurs too. Would recommend and will come back soon!
