Hello, Sheffield train station. I have been buying the almond croissants which were amazing. These were then replaced by the Bear claw, which also tasted very nice. Recently the quality of the pastry has not been as great. The bear claw is ‘flat’ and not as crispy as it was, and this was an early morning purchase so guess I g a fresh batch? Can we please please bring almond croissants back to the train station 🙏🏼

Loved the experience and food! I’m not from Sheffield and searched for the best bakery in Sheffield. Forge came up and I went one morning. I was told they’re in competition for their croissants so I definitely needed one of those. I also tried the dark chocolate and rye cookie which was intriguing, and a latte. The croissant was wonderfully flakey on the outside and soft in the middle. Not too buttery either. As for the cookie, I was told “those who like it really like it” and vice versa. I like wholesome foods, hence I liked it. It was soft and flakey in the centre with a crispy exterior. The flaked sea salt helped cut through the sweetness of the cookie nicely. I could taste the grains of rye but I didn’t mind it as that’s what you would expect. There’s good seating inside and outside. The latte was good, not too ‘in your face’ strong with caffeine, but standard nonetheless. Around 28 people could fit here at once. I would definitely recommend this place to all!

The prices are not adequate to what you get. The pastries were way too sweet and there was not much flavour to it. Coffee looked nice and it tasted OK. It feels like other places in Chesterfield just offer better cakes and drinks at similar price. Definitely disappointing. The place lacks atmosphere and the customer service is lacking. Would not be wasting my money again.

Hadn’t been here for a while but how it has changed, and not for the better. The coffee, tea and tea cake were good but the customer service was awful. Had to walk in and out of the cafe seating area to order at the counter as staff were busy having a chat blocking the thoroughfare. Then a male member of staff continually went in and out of the rear entrance slamming the door that we were sat near. I’m not one for posting negative comments but it just amazes me that staff think customers are invisible or that the business is so successful that consideration of their customers isn’t important. Safe to say, I’ll take my custom elsewhere and Forge will still survive.

First visit to the new branch in the Civic Centre Dronfield- have to say we were somewhat disappointed. Very nice selection of home baked breads. Small selection of pre made sandwiches and 2 different varieties of sausage rolls. Selection of cakes/pastries. No salads soups or brunch etc. A wait of 20 mins for sausage rolls to be heated which turned out to be almost 30 mins. Refill of our coffees because of our wait was appreciated-although not the best coffee in Dronfield in our opinion. With so many coffee shops in close proximity they will have to 'up their game' in my humble opinion but I do wish them well.

I used to be a regular here, I used to love grabbing some sandwiches and treats to have while out walking. I used to love that they always kept their prices reasonable and everything was excellent quality. It’s changed a lot. I’m not sure why everything is pre packaged now in plastic bags (obviously not good for the environment). The food is now considerably more expensive and the sandwich fillings uninspiring. The bread was also a little burnt on top. I’m disappointed they’ve closed the restaurant which used to be my favourite spot in Sheffield for brunch. I don’t understand why they have opened so many new branches if they were struggling financially. They could have just focused on their original site which used to be excellent. Such a shame.

We always have a fresh ciabatta from forge bakehouse weekly and find it delicious. We also have their pastries, and occasionally coffee too. However we noticed the shortbread and cookies (pre-packaged) contain a long list of ingredients such as xanthan gum, whereas before it was very minimal ingredients. Finally made it back after the new year only to find that the kitchen team have been made redundant! Used to LOVE brunch at Forge but it's got this weird feeling about the place now. No more kitchen, no more upstairs seating, everything is super expensive and a far lesser quality than it used to be, constantly opening new below-par sites when their primary site is suffering. What a shame, I like others below have found Forge to have gone so utterly downhill. Croissants half the size they used to be and lamination poor. The Danish overly sweet to make up for the consistency of pastry I guess. The coffee used to be to die for and worth a trip alone except now I'd rather make one at home. The indoor seating area is dirty. Table sticky and a lot of dirt on sills and the edge of flooring. That's laziness right there. Hopefully no-one wants anything off the shelves next to the water fridge as caked with grease 🤢 hopefully the bakery itself is better. Truly heartbroken to have visited for the first time in a while and it be this bad. Sadly the last visit for me.

How sad. Forge on Abbeydale Rd used to be one of my favourite places to eat in Sheffield. Slowly the management appear to have been chipping away at everything valuable, first closing the upstairs dining area, and now stopping cooked food all together and effectively now only serving pastries and sandwiches. There has been no communication of this huge change with customers across social media, or otherwise, showing scant regard for its very loyal customer base. We do understand changes need to be made, but whilst you are opening new premises and clearly on a profit driven expansion mission to make cash from the brand...its probably worth valuing the core brand first before Forge becomes another recession casualty. The staff also seem annoyed at the situation, so clearly the new strategy has not been rolled out well at all. Come on Forge management, Sheffield deserves more than this! You're the custodians of a wonderful brand, step up to the challenge please 🙏 At the very least, communicate and bring us all with you. Let us know what new value you are bringing, please rather than seemingly taking everything away.

I’ve been a regular customer since “John “ helped open this bread shop, must be 8-9yrs ago, I’m not sure who owned the business then? Or if it’s the same owner now? I have a question regarding the bread recipe as it appears to have more additives “preservatives” than it use to, I say this, because the bread appears to take longer for it to go hard? (Stale) My question is has the bread recipe changed? Since the shops opened? And are we drifting closer to the supermarket breads which are unhealthy? Thanks John

Next level baked goods. Forge bakehouse has brought joy into me and my relatives' lives over lockdown. Bread and pastries to commit crimes for. (this might seem an odd notion to people who haven't tried them.) personal favourites include all the croissant based goods, almond is especially indulgent (I suspect it may very slightly shorten your life expectancy, it's just so gloriously rich, but the happiness it brings makes this a price more than worth paying) and the ciabatta, honestly it's ridiculously good. It may involve some kind of witch craft. But the good kind. Thank you Forge bakehouse for the wonder you bring! ❤️ Quick edit as I have tried more things:baked cheesecake is joyous, light creamy heaven. Teacakes may be the best use of a pound I've found yet. Brownies a must try and pies are ace. Their coffee beans, the ones they use themselves are really good. I got a fancy machine at Christmas and the forge beans are among my favourites! If you can love a shop forge is the shop I love the most. Had breakfast today, full English is spot on. Son had French toast and bacon also ridiculously good. Youngest, who had the fry up, said it was one of the best things he'd ever eaten. The two of them argued over the whose breakfast was the best. We had pastries for pudding. Try the pumpkin pie btw. You will thank me. Is this the longest review ever? 😁

As a fairly regular customer over the last 5 years, I'm honestly a bit sad about where forge is going as a business. Before this year, they had something so unique, it was inviting and staff were always happy (they always had time for a little chat) and the food and bread/pastry counter was great. Now, there's a very limited menu, hardly any decent quality vegan options (where are all the pastries?), the quality of takeaway savouries has dropped and the staff always look run off their feet. And now this morning I've seen they're closing the second floor cafe space. To me, the business has been poorly judged by its new owners and they've failed to recognise how great something was before. I realise times are tough for hospitality and I would have loved to support forges' future but unfortunately I'll be going elsewhere. I'd maybe suggest a complete rebrand as it's not the same business as before.

New owners seem to prefer extra profit over happy staff. Everyone looks overworked and stressed. All the people who used to work there have left. A qr code to order now, and apparently they've gotten rid of the DONATION scheme (pay it forward), that lets those less able to afford their food have it paid for by donations of other customers. It seems the old atmosphere has been replaced by one of rapid expansion at the cost of... everything nice about the business. I'm surprised the food is still nice and hasn't had the ingredients cheapened yet!

What happened Forge? Edit: Very poor responses that are rude, curt and dismissive, coming from the 'Customer Experience Director'... (worked in hospitality for years and never heard of this title). Unfortunately Forge has really gone downhill. A year ago it was one of my favourite places in Sheffield for coffee and a sandwich, partly because of the amazing bread but mostly because of the really wonderful staff. There have been a lot of changes in staffing and everyone seems much more stressed than they used to, and a lot of the people I enjoyed chatting to don't work there any more. Last night's Italian-themed dinner at Forge Bakehouse was an absolute delight, and I can't help but share my glowing review. Being Italian, I have a deep appreciation for authentic Italian cuisine, and Forge Bakehouse truly delivered. We kicked off the meal with the arancini, which were impeccably crispy on the outside and incredibly flavorful within. The homemade orecchiette with salmon sauce was a masterpiece. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the salmon sauce was a harmonious blend of creamy and savory flavors. It transported me straight to Italy with every bite. And then there was the panna cotta - a sheer indulgence. Its creamy, velvety texture was exquisite, and the berry topping provided a delightful contrast of sweetness. It was a sweet symphony for the taste buds. The only minor drawback of the evening was a particularly loud table nearby, which, unfortunately, the staff couldn't control. However, the overall dining experience was so wonderful that it hardly detracted from our enjoyment. Despite the scorching Indian summer weather, the Forge Bakehouse staff were the epitome of warmth and hospitality. Their friendly demeanor and attentiveness added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening. In summary, Forge Bakehouse's Italian night is a true culinary gem. I can't wait to return for another round of their delectable dishes. Grazie mille for an unforgettable dining experience! 🇮🇹🍝🍮😊

Absolutely shocking service. Firstly the booked table wasn't ready, which was annoying but understandable. However once seated the restaurant was incredibly loud with other diners right next to us basically shouting. After sitting around for over an hour and a quarter (after ordering) without any food arriving - we left to find something to eat. Really just the epitome of style over substance - over crowded, very noisy, and failed to actually serve any food. More like a badly managed crèche than a restaurant. Edit - Based on the owners reply I'm actually perplexed. It should have been glaringly obvious we'd not eaten - because you never brought us food or even cutlery, and never once checked if we were ok. Blaming a printer, and us, for your basic lack of care and attention is risible.

Love this place. Normally have the full English meat breakfast and it does everything you need it to do. Love the sweet treats as well...a brownie is a guilty pleasure for me.

Gorgeous food, lovely atmosphere, fantastic customer service.... What's not to like? The Portuguese tarts are an absolute must! Just thinking about them now is making me wish that they were still open at 11pm! 😂

The bakery produce is very good, albeit pricey (even by London standards), the problem is the rather haphazard table service. Food comes at different times to drinks, or food comes and they forget you ordered drinks. A lot of rushing around by the staff but just no efficiency or attention to detail …

Really sad to be writing this review. Have been visiting the forge for many years. (Sure I've previously reviewed as 5 stars) This is a culmination of 4 unhappy visits. On 2 sepatate occasions I had to wait over 40mins for my order (had been lost/not passed through?) Last week I paid for take out cakes, knowing they run out, and was assured they would be saved. We ate in and when I asked for the take out we found they had been sold. No refund - I was given a credit note. Today I paid for a take out roll and was given it:-) I wanted to eat in but on enquiry found the upstairs was closed and downstairs was full. The server kindly checked and stated a table would soon be free. I said I would return within 10minutes - which i did. When I returned, I was told that the table had gone. The person then looked down and smiled as if finding the situation amusing! Not good for blood pressure!! So sad as I love the food at the Forge and usually the staff are very pleasant hence I have never felt the urge to comment before!

If you enjoy cold coffee and bad service with an overlying air of gentrification at its finest this is your place. One. You brought ua the wrong drinks Two. The young woman who served us needs some training in customer service as she was rude and also half asleep. Three. Being told to 'tap your card there' and walking off isnt a great way to let people leave your establishment.

Everything here is always excellent. I went in this week on Wednesday and there was no chocolate based doughnut which is normally an insurmountable problem for me, but the staff member suggested I try a caramel and it was the best thing I've eaten for some time. Perfection. For me to write this about a non chocolate based item is high praise indeed. Thanks so much. Other favourites include: - linseed bread - chilli and cheddar bread - pork and fennel sausage roll - bhaji sandwich - scotch egg Always reliably 5 stars!

I need to take another route home from the gym cause I can’t go past here without stopping and popping in for their latest vegan sandwich. Hats off to whoever came up with that sandwich filling combination. The sweet potato and black bean roll that I had last week was incredible. The cumin seeds on top make everything come together.

One of the best brunches ever. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been here and it's always amazing. The harissa fried eggs and french toast are my favouites.

We were visiting some friends in Sheffield and they took us to Forge Bakehouse for breakfast. I loved the Harissa fried eggs poached to perfection. Coffee was great and very tasty Pain au Chocolate. We loved sitting outside in the sunshine.

Always impressed by the amazing selection of pastries and baked goodies at Forge. Everything I've tried from here has been delicious but the Portuguese custard tarts are out of this world- keep it up Forge Bakehouse!

Cant fault this place. The food is fabulously flavoursome and not from a 'freezer to hot oven'. They make everything themselves or source locally. Lovely and clean. Great staff. And as an EHO I am pleased to say their food hygiene rating is top.

This pub has really gone down hill since I last visited. Visited in September 2024 and it was dirty and dilapidated. No issues with the service really friendly, but with so many better pubs in the area, not worth visiting in its current state.

Lovely place, great atmosphere and ambience. Food was lovely and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Definitely one of the best in the area, if not the best for value.
