No hay servicio de mesa, el ‘bar’ en el ‘restaurante’ estaba cerrado, así que tenías que pasar por el bar propiamente dicho. ¡Los baños eran absolutamente asquerosos! ¡Meas y enfermos por todas partes, totalmente inaceptable! Hay que pedir comida en el bar, no tienen ni idea de qué vino tienen en stock. Mi comida era pobre, los goujons de bacalao eran insípidos y las tuberías principales de la torta de pescado eran terribles, delgadas, insípidas, solo patata con unos pocos rebaños y ningún pescado detectable en absoluto. ¡Salada! Cobran precios de restaurante pero no ofrecen nada como esa experiencia en absoluto. ¡Terrible, terrible, terrible! Somos locales y nunca volveré a llevar amigos allí de nuevo.

Oh Dios mío. En primer lugar los hombres un mar de p*ss, me temo. No es aceptable en absoluto. Y si limpio ni siquiera decente. Una comida en el “restaurante” que “no pudimos” abrir una pestaña - y no había servicio de mesa: tuvimos que pedir en el bar. Muchacha encantadora que toma servicio en el bar (no es su culpa) no tenía formación en los vinos disponibles. Dios la bendiga, hizo lo mejor que pudo. La comida llegó y estaba... .. bien. Todo bastante caro. No puedo perdonar el estado de los baños. . asqueroso! Llevo yendo a este pub desde 1979, me temo que nunca ha sido peor. En general... ¡nunca iremos de nuevo!

Extremadamente sucio y el gerente es la mujer más ruda que he conocido, definitivamente no recomiendo. La comida no es comestible, es como un patio de recreo para luchar contra los jóvenes

Went for my anniversary beginning of May which happen to coincide with steak night put it this way I couldn't have been happier the steak was cooked perfect and the staff are always lovely in there, not alot of people will know this but some of us used to call it the disco ery because the v had been missing for a while on the signage this was a while ago tho, still enjoy going there keep up the good work. So going on its now 2024 and the discovery has been taken over twice its lost the atmosphere it once had I feel personally. Its gone back to your typical pub( football and sport on every tv) and I think its driven alot of the local people away.

Las transformaciones son increíbles, nos encanta el pub y el personal aparte de la nueva supervisora de turno hoy, la forma en que yo y mis amigos uno de los cuales tiene una discapacidad fueron tratados fue absolutamente repugnante, su actitud apesta después de discriminar a mi amigo que tiene enfermedades importantes y toma numerosos medicamentos ella decidió que estaba borracho después de solo tomar 2 copas cuando hablamos con ella sobre esto y le explicamos su situación, sus palabras fueron “no cambiarás de opinión” y luego procedió a decirnos todo lo que no podíamos tomar más copas y a irnos, mientras nos íbamos ella lo encontró muy divertido y se rió y sonrió mientras se dirigía a la cocina! Como asiduos que visitan semana tras semana sin causar ninguna interrupción y se llevan bien con todo el personal, la manera en que nos trataron es impactante! Ella necesita aprender algunos modales y también ser consciente de que no todas las discapacidades son visibles!

Really impressed, the place seems to have been refurbished, looking really good, it’s much more open now, with good comfortable seats, very accommodating The staff, are absolutely amazing, friendly, and welcoming, just a lovely atmosphere, you can tell they care about their customers. Went there for lunch and drinks, and the food, was excellent, very much enjoyed it. Looking forward to a revisit.

From the outside it looks a bit run down, but inside everything is in order and from a sports bar it was also ok for those who are not keen on sports. The food was good and the prices reasonable

Somos habituales aquí para las bebidas y el personal es siempre amable y eficiente. Nos encanta la zona exterior separada para no fumadores. Comemos aquí de vez en cuando también, pero como vegetariano, el menú me parece limitado porque eligen solo tener opciones veganas. Hamburguesa vegana, quiero queso de verdad! ¡Desayuno vegano, quiero huevos! Espero que el menú tenga un poco de revisión pronto.

Me and a workate come here around lunch time every week, the service is great with really friendly staff. The lager choice is good too, plenty of selection. Really chuffed with the food here been a few times, happy to come here more often.

This place has not changed for the better. Now a student pub with more screens than you can count. No decent beer, but 7 lagers. Would 1 craft beer be too much to ask?

We used to be regulars at this pub. It used to be a really nice local, great for families as well as just wanting a romantic dinner in the evening. There was one room for dining, one for sports and one function room. Now I went to go with my fiance to celebrate our engagement and check the pub out after their renovations and were shocked to see that the amazing athmospheare was gone. It is nor soley a sports pub it seems. You noiticed the change of clientele as well. In the past there were always families and a good mix of groups, now it was all just men (at least when we were there). It no longer felt welcoming and cozy. We walked back out without ordering anything and went to another place.

I used to frequent this pub over 20 yrs ago and was shocked to see how its character has changed.

Went today for Father’s Day, been on our list of places to try, start off by saying the young girl serving us was very lovely she’s my positive, however when we were sat waiting and the carvery was not being watched one of the customers from the beer garden went picked at the meat on the carvery and then walked off munching away then came back a second time time and filled his hand up. I told the lovely waitress and as I said it was off putting as we were about to have that and she said she would tell someone. So the carvery server came and apologised and said he would have a word as he was fumming about it, and it did look like he went to have a word, he apologised again when we went up he seemed lovely, however when we were sat eating he then walked outside with food from the carvery in a piece of foil, so this customer was rewarded for picking at the meat people were to eat and was then also given free bit of food which we had to pay. Our mains we were asked if we were ready for but the deserts we were not and as we had ordered the kids deserts in with the meal deal that didn’t give us chance to order any adult deserts so we didn’t bother. The bar manager was also rude didn’t apologise that was left to the kitchen staff and told us the bar was closed and had to go all the way round to the other side even though we had 45 mins left on our table and wanted to pay the bill. Also wasn’t any soap in the toilet had same problem in April when I came for a drink.

Great music, saw 2 very good artists/singers..Didn't have food this time but will have food again next time..service OK bit busy so went to other bar..Good atmosphere 👏

Me and my family came to the discovery on Saturday night, we entered the establishment, my daughter was talking to her friends on the dance floor, one of the bouncers came over and told her to get out because she was drunk, which she wasn't as she had been drinking water that she got from the bar, she asked why and he told her to get out, I tried to speak to the bouncers who was very rude started shouting at me, I then asked to speak to the manager, but he was deputy manager, I explained what happened and he basically told me that he couldn't do anything he has to do what he was told, he didn't seem to care that I was trying to explain then walked off. My daughter had gone outside and realised ahe left her bag inside when she came in in to get it the bouncers pushed her by the shoulders and told her to get out, he was absolutely vile to us woman, I spoke to the manager again because of what he done he didn't seem to care was just leaning on the bar not saying anything, I have never been treated so disrespectful in my life and will not be going there again when we were outside waiting for a taxi there were alot of people complaining about them and there attitude, I will also be contacting croesus about this as well absolutely disgusting

Enjoyed a lovely meal last night. The place was busy & we were quite late eating but the food was fab. My brother in law had the mixed grill & “it was the best mixed grill he has ever had” . My husband had the gammon & again really enjoyed. They both said the quality of the meat was fantastic.. A lasagne & vegan curry for us girls & again both really nice. Live music in the other room was a bonus!!

Great pub. Loads of screens to watch sport. Lovely staff and decent food.

My friend and I went for dinner. The place is not as good as it used to be. Food was standard pub grub good for fuel with no taste. I can see what the new owners are trying to do gey as many bums on seats for a better GP. Dropping standards on food quality and service. The steak night has two types, rump and sirlion. No longer have ribeye or fillet, which speaks volumes A sad day we have lost a good local. On the up side, at least, it will be good for a rugby or football match.

Came here on a whim but I am glad I did, great customer service, small wait for food but the food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Will definitely be back

Food tasted ok, very poor in the amount ? ordered a Chicken Sharing Bucket @ 12.95 - 15 wings supplied, YET 10 starter wings were £5.95 Asked the staff before order how many in a bucket - complete waste of time as they did not even want to find out. when mentioned there difference they did not care. really disappointed

The Discovery is now a Croeso venue. As very long term customers, we ate for the first time tonight in the new restaurant area, previously the bar, which has been very tastefully redesigned. We tested the long standing and popular Wednesday evening steak night - absolutely superb, so much so that we asked to see and compliment chef Paul, who it seems has worked previously at a rather prestigious local venue. Paul takes great pride in his work and his acompanying mushroom sauce to the Wednesday steak menu was delicious.

As its all changed The food was ok Bar area was really busy Restaurant part just us nice and quiet but lacked atmosphere. Food was ok.. Didn't like seeing chefs going to smoke alot and then wondering if they wished there hands... just put us off.

The Moretti and San Miguel to me tasted the same and not what I expected so I left them Fortunately The Three Arches is only half a mile away and I was able to compare , these were excellent

Agree with a lot of the recent reviews, average/poor food and service was very mixed - great chef on the carvery, bar staff didn't want to be there. Fear this place has been taken down market when given the area it should be pitched at a much higher level.

Very welcoming staff! Great prices, lovely setting. Very big with ample seating. Lots of TVs too so no chance of missing any sports! Definitely worth a visit. Happy hour prices are irresistible!

Went with friends for an early evening drink. We sat in the bar area which has been recently refurbished by the new owners.We were looking forward to seeing what it was like so that we could use this pub as our local again. We won’t be, the live ‘singer’ came on and drowned out any chance we had of conversation.This wasn’t a concert !!!!it was appalling. People around us were all saying the same, in fact the bar emptied around us.. Background music yes, but this was unacceptable. Sorry won’t be back.

The refurb is decent, bit lacking in atmosphere on a Friday night though.

Really impressed, under new management, they’ve done a refurb, looking really good, it’s so much more open now, with good comfortable seating, very accommodating The staff, are amazing, friendly, welcoming, just a lovely atmosphere, it just shows that they care about their customers.Went there for lunch and drinks, wished l’d taken some photos now, because the food, was excellent so much so we stayed for dessert, very much enjoyed.Looking forward to go back, thank you for making us feel so welcome.

We go there fairly regularly with friends to enjoy the ‘Steak Night’. It is usually very good, but last night was a bit of a disaster. When our meals arrived, they were cool, not even lukewarm. The peppercorn sauce was cold, nearly frigid. I’ll came back to that. My wife & I like our steaks well done. Last night they were not only well done, they were incinerated. Tasteless, dry, even with a steak knife, it was like cutting through leather. My wife actually couldn’t eat about a third of her steak & it went back. The peppercorn sauce? I’ve never seen “sauce” like it. It was more like a paste. We were sitted in the “Pool Room” which used to be the small bar. I’m not sure what the new owners strategy is, but that room is not the best for eating meals. There are doors at either end that are used by smokers who frequently use them, sometimes leaving them open. Makes the room drafty. Apart from a massive TV screen on the wall that was showing a football match, with no sound thank goodness, the room is soulless. This is the first visit after the new owners taking over. Sadly, it will be our last until there are better reviews.

Disappointing.Chewy steak spoilt meal.No -one asked if meal was ok or bothered to clear table afterwards.Decor improved but no character-too many large tvs in eating area.

Sports bar, minimal menu. Cold in back bar, had Sunday lunch carvery, TVs on in every room. Loud background music, aimed at young families, men / people watching sport. Good selection of vegetables, Yorkshire, roast potatoes, very little flavour though. Very few staff, no atmosphere either. Very much fast food in and out in two hours for a table.Wont be rushing back.

Haven’t eaten here for some time as has had so many disappointing meals. Now under new management and a refurbishment . We had the carvery which was excellent…beef was cooked perfectly. A few till issues made service a bit slow, but hope these are just teething problems with new staff Xmas. Hopefully The Discovery will become a good local again .🤞🏻

I asked about gluten free options and was told that everything on the menu was gluten free.. total happiness!!!!! I had the fish and chips which was awesome. Lovely crispy batter.

Decided to try this place out after a change in management and refurb. I couldn't be happier that I did, a classic pub menu, we tried two of the burgers and they were exceptional. I will be back

Absolutely great warmth of personality in waiters , very friendly and make you feel too priority ,mark was our waiter for the day and the table service was excellent, and the small talk was much appreciated, we felt really cared for , and the service from the chef jhon was amazing, we came in a bit late for breakfast and he still made us one with his spare time , great service deffo will be coming again!

We had a roast on NYE, absolutely delicious. Everything was super tasty and piping hot. Lovely friendly staff, our waiter (Mark) explained about the refurb happening in January. Looking forward to visiting again once it reopens.

I came at 12 O'clock on December the 12th with seven other friends for lunch. The staff were very welcoming on arrival and were very polite and helpful. Our server Mark was excellent. He was very professional and nothing was too much trouble. He even offered to take some group photos for us. The food was brilliant and we couldn't find any fault with our meals. The portion sizes were great to. Overall we all had a lovely afternoon catching up with eachother and we will certainly consider visiting again. Thanks to all the staff, especially Mark who helped give us a great afternoon.

We’ve always liked the discovery and we were saddened that they sold but within a few days croseo seemed to have made a positive impact. We went for a couple of pints on Sunday early evening. I’m over the moon with the draught lagers they’ve added: Amstel, peroni, ashahi, madri, birre moretti! The bar had a real buzz to it. They’d made an effort with the Christmas decs and I overheard fellow guests raving about the food. We’ll eat there soon, had a look at the menu and it looks really good. So far, so good. Well done.

Just called in briefly for coffee and cake - both thoroughly made , presented and served . Very good atmosphere and ambiance for an early Saturday afternoon. Very pleasant , helpful and friendly staff. The new menus , opening hours and “Happy Hour” offers look inviting - we’ll be back. Also looking forward to the refurb in early 2024 by new ownership - exciting times. Many thanks .

Cake here with a group of friends and kids. Terrible. We had food we didn't order, slow service, no condiments, cold uncooked food and if that wasn't enough, we were told "the sundae is the brownie". It's under new management now so PLEASE AVOID

Oh well, there goes a great little gem for Sunday Lunch. We have been visiting this establishment for a number of years especially as they would have such great service and very tasty food. That is unfortunately no longer the case especially when it comes to the food. I feel really sorry for the staff, especially those legacy members that now have to deal with the new regime. Slow cooked beef joint has been replaced with cheaper cuts of chewy beef and buffet style veg that you would expect at a Weatherspoons. Hard boiled tasteless veg quantity over quality. If this is a new chef then I hope they are still in their appraisal period. Rude, patronising and childish to the public. This is just such a shame… as a local I feel that other locals will be equally annoyed with the change of emphasis to a happy hour culture If Carling made pubs then they would be proud of this.

Reopened under new management Pubs being cleaned, spic. And span by a group of people that really know how to run pubs I was lucky to be treated to food after my work was finished Honestly the best burger I've tasted for years!! This will be a great asset for the locals

Had a meal two years absolutely loved it , this time had a bad experience and was cold .

What a shame this is a lovely pub but customer service is so poor. Having been coming regularly since it was renovated and food is lovely but the waiting staff are shocking. Tried again tonight in the hope things had changed. Pub was not busy but had to wait ages for a menu and then drinks and then food. There were a few bar staff but no sign of them and had to keep prompting them to take our order and bring us drinks and then the bill and then the card machine. Even then the plates were not cleared. They need some serious training on how to look after their customers. Won’t be rushing back sadly.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH SERVICE FROM HERE, WE ATTENDED AN EVENT TODAY WHICH WAS IN MEMORY OF OUR CHILDREN WHO WE HAVE LOST THROUGH CANCER, NOT ONLY WAS THE FOOD LATE, COLD AND OVERCOOKED, PRE ORDERED FOOD WASN’T AVAILABLE, CUTLERY DIRTY, GLASSES DIRTY, STAFF WHERE RUDE AND PROVIDED APPALLING SERVICE, THIS EVENT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FAMILY’S GETTING TOGETHER TO REMEMBER CHILDREN THEY HAVE LOST AT THIS DIFFICULT TIME OF YEAR AND TO TOP IT OFF WE GOT KICKED OUT 10 MINUTES AFTER DESSERTS WHERE FETCHED OUT CAUSE THEY HAD DOUBLE BOOKED AND ALLOUD THE NEXT PARTY TO COME IN AND SET UP BEFORE OUR EVENT HAD FINISHED, WHO WHERE ALL LAUGHING JOKING AND PLAYING MUSIC BEFORE WE EVEN HAD CHANCE TO PUT OUR COATS ON, ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED THAT THE PUBS MANAGEMENT ALOUD THIS TO HAPPEN WITHOUT EVEN APOLOGISING!!!!

Steak night I ordered a medium it came burnt and dry I asked for another steak That did come medium but 20 mins later with the same chips which by now were inedible I do not know if it’s shortage of staff or because the pub is up for sale Very sad I live locally a it used to be excellent but recently inconsistent quality Will not be eating there again

Popped in for lunch yesterday, well worth the visit here. Lovely friendly staff, nice home made food, we had the Cod and chips and it was delicious, up there with the best fish I've had! Special thanks to Mark for waiting on us and Harry the chef. Dai iawn

Harry and his team did a fantastic job at hosting a hockey dinner for parents and players - 43 in total. Not an easy number to cater for but all the food came out together and was very tasty. Definitely recommend! Huge thank you for making the night a success!

Staff very good. I had squid to start too much space. For main had brisket it tasted like game the only good part were the parsnips. My wife had chicken supreme not too bad . Sweet choice poor .

Been there twice and both times the food I ordered did not match the description on the menu. Both times the service did not mention that eg. they don't have salmon so will give me cod or that they don't have any veggies so the 'burger' will be a bun with meat and bacon only. Also their aperol spritz tasted like slightly flavoured water.

Such a disappointing experience. We came a while back and the Sunday lunch was outstanding.!! Clearly a different chef now. It was awful from start to finish. Table was not laid properly to start with., 1 fork on a table of 4. Starters where Hurrendous, the combination of the ingredients just did not combine well together. The food was cold, the Yorkshire puds where black!! we sent them back! The food was tasteless, a Spoonful of Cabbage, 1 carrot, 3 Roasties, and a burnt Yorkshire, ohh and let's not forget the genorous dripping of gravy. There was no colour to plate at all, the veg was so overcooked and soggy that the colour had actually gone.! The roast potatoes where vile, Iceland frozen ones would of been better. So overpriced for what you get, the quality of the food for the price is a joke to bo honest. The toilets looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months, spider webbs in every corner accompanied by several spiders. Handryer not working and no supply of paper towels to dry hands either. The place felt grubby and dirty. This place seems to have dramatically gone down hill since our last visit. Absolutely awful food!!!! Avoid at all costs!!

Accessible and in a great location with ample parking. Nicely decorated inside, staff are always polite and helpful and there is a good range of food and drink. Able to televise sporting events and there is always a nice, friendly atmosphere. Long may that continue 👌

This was a local of mine many years ago. I remember the lounge having an impressive, plush decor. Not now, everything is painted grey and looks tired. The bar definitely needs freshning up, but I guess those were different times.

We recently had our annual family Christmas meal at the discovery. 20 of us travelled from across the country. The staff were excellent! We were able to use the function room to have our own privacy and relax a little more with young children and...

The food was OK, supposed to be a Christmas menu (advertised on their website, but no sign of that on the day). I had the turkey, not sure how they got Brussels sprouts cooked but still as hard as bullets. Sticky Toffee pudding not available, so disappointing as that was what I was really looking forward to. Cheese board was better than many I have had.

Booked table for 24 people at very short notice,the staff were all very friendly, service was great and menu choices very good. We all really enjoyed the food and would happily go there again.
