Coffee a gogo in Cardiff

Always friendly; generous serving of well-flavoured coffee; pastries are fresh and tasty.

This cafe isn’t too far from where I work but I’ve never visited until one day I decided to take a stroll. I checked their website and saw the picture of the Monte Cristo melt which contained Welsh ham, Turkey and Swiss cheese. At £6 it was a little steep but I just couldn’t get the picture of the melted cheese out of my head so off I went. The cafe itself was ok, and the service seemed decent enough, I ordered a packet of crisps and a drink and waited for my sandwich to be made and grilled. It didn’t take long and I was given a sealed paper bag so I headed back to work all excited and you can imagine the disappointment I had when I opened the bag to see the second picture! £6 for what looked like cheap white bread, sandwiched over a slice of wafer thin ham and a slice of square cheddar cheese that I’d expect from a burger van. Would I ever visit again? Definitely not.

Hey guys, this could be such a great place, but it's too expensive for most locals. Maybe a rethink and a new menu would work for you? I work in hospitality so I know what to expect, but it has prices right for the bay area, but not for here.

This Coffee Shop has the opportunity to be an excellent business within a community, but it fails miserably in customer service. The owner is miserable, moody, unfriendly, and no engagement, and this is not how to promote your business. Prices ae expensive, however, the last Friday of every month, coffee is £1, which is good marketing. There is a deli and seating area at the back which is enjoyable. A smile does not cost, a morning greeting does not hurt, and I would urge the owners/assistants to greatly improve on their interaction with a customer. I have made a decision not to visit this shop again, a shame, because I would rather give my hard-earned cash to a local business than a commercial chain.

I had the salt beef sandwich Friday and took it to the nearby park to eat. OMG the best sandwich I have ever had. Melt in the mouth beef with a lush pickle to top it off. I will definitely be back. A great place to grab a bite and take a proper break from work.

Loved the pesto panini. I went so many times while studying in Cardiff and the staff was always friendly and polite.

Firstly it is extremely overpriced. I understand you are using quality products but the prices are too extreme. Even more expensive than London prices. Anything over £5 for a (basic) cheese toastie is not justifable. However, apart from this, the staff are beyond rude and it appears to be not just with myself reading the reviews. I don't understand why such rude people would take a job that involves customer service. Everything I need to say has been said in reviews before. It makes you wonder what their problem is if they are being so rude to every customer? It's a shame because it has the potential to be a lovely little cafe but there's a huge amount letting it down, mainly the staff.

This cafe is located so conveniently for nearby workers who do not wish to head into Cardiff town for a bite to eat or cup of coffee. Unfortunately, two members of staff who work in the shop are extremely rude. Whilst I am simply only spending a few minutes to collect a take away hot drink, it has reached a point where I feel uncomfortable even going in the shop. There are two main members of staff who have been in the shop for many years who are the problem. I never expect people to be overly nice or gushing (we are all human), but it is not a case of this. These two members of staff are overtly rude and I (and others) even question whether they are attempting to cause the owner to lose custom. One example (which has happened on more than one occasion), I have entered the cafe and there has been no customers. The two members of staff have been facing the shop entrance and have intentionally turned their backs to me and continued their conversation. I have then waited several minutes for them to turn around. A second example, (which has happened to my friend in front of me) the manageress has turned to her colleague and made a snide remark when making our drinks. A third example is that when you are finally served they wait in silence for you to order, and have in fact snatched money out of my hand. I should say that I absolutely never write reviews (partially because I cannot be bothered and partially because I understand that we are all human and have bad days). However, I do find the staff behaviour and attitude astonishing to the point that I cannot believe it is actually happening! It's almost like a prank. I truly think that it is such a shame and I am only writing this as I know so many people who have bad things to say about the staff. I do wonder why the staff are like this though? Surely there must be a reason...as it is not just a case of them not being bothered. They are actively and intentionally acting in this way. Perhaps they are not happy with the way management runs things? I do not know...but I do think there must be more going on. Advice to Management: Please sort this out - it is actually upsetting when they act in this way. So many people in the area have stopped going to this coffee shop because of their behaviour, but I have continued to go as it is so much easier. But now I won't be as it is actually offensive.

Been meaning to review this for a while. I went with a friend and the place is good with decent service.

Walk past it every day. It was Friday and I fancied a treat so I popped in for a coffee and sausage sandwich. I pointed to a dry little sausage panini and said can I have this and an Americano please (I asked for a bit of tomato on the panini but she said it would cost extra so I declined). The lady said 'thats £7.80 please...'. Being British, I just inwardly screamed 'WHAAAAT???' until it was too late to change my mind. Eventually I couldn't hold it in and said 'I'm terribly sorry, but that's extremely expensive'. the owner just said 'This isn't Greggs you know, we only use top quality ingredients'. Well I've eaten the panini and drunk the coffee now. The panini was a bit dry and the coffee is reasonable. Nothing 'Top Quality' about it.

Used this coffee shop twice during an overnight stay near by. Coffee was lovely and the fruit flapjack gorgeous. Not too sweet, just deliciously tasty. Nice cosy seating area in the back. Staff were friendly.

Lush coffee here, and a toasted sandwich which is my favourite. Ham and cheese!! Yom Yom Yom. This is my regular coffee shop as I work nearby. Staff are amazing and so friendly. Would recommend to everyone 😊☕💖

Only ever been here once and I have to agree with the majority here about the prices. I had a takeaway bacon, brie and cranberry toastie with a can and crisps it came to nearly £8 which is ridiculous. Can't complain about the quality of the food but charging that price is a rip off. This place even isn't in the centre of Cardiff to charge customers that much!

As the cafe is conveniently placed a few doorsteps from where I walk, I've been popping in for a coffee and the occasional flapjack on my lunch break every now and then. The seating area is cosy and the perfect spot for me to do some work on my laptop. It's just a shame that the food is so overpriced and the service isn't the friendliest. Not so bad if you're just popping in for a coffee but today I decided to push the boat out and treat myself to a sandwich - that was until I was told the prices. £4 for a simple sandwich - up to £6 if you want to eat in! I advised them that I would look elsewhere and swiftly made my exit.

Very impolite staff, unfriendly and as a mature student (whilst working) I asked if I could use my student discount card and got asked what course was I doing as I looked too old to be a student!! There is such a thing ladies, it's called bettering yourself!! I won't be visiting again.

Sadly this place is not as good as when it first opened. In my opinion it is over priced. Also the small dining section is a tad awkward with the height of the seating in relation to the tables.

I visited this quirky little coffee/deli for lunch with a colleague (as I had done so before). Had a pleasant experience before, but this time not so much. My colleague ordered just before me and said "i'll meet you in there" - meaning in the sitting area around the corner. I placed my order and proceeded in to the sitting area. About 10 minutes later, one of the staff brought my sandwich in a bag (rather than on a plate like my colleague) and rudely barked at me that I hadn't paid the extra charge for sitting in. I apologised and stated that no-one had asked me whether I was sitting in or taking out when I placed my order. I thought that since I was talking to my colleague in front, the lady who took my order had assumed I was sitting in. I tried to offer to pay for the extra charge but the particular member of staff refused to listen to me and insisted that she "didn't want an argument!" I was made to feel as though I had purposely deceived the girl behind the counter to avoid paying the extra charge. How ridiculous. Safe to say the rest of the staff I encountered were polite and friendly, however this one particular individual was rude, confrontational and degrading. How one bad experience can put you off for life. Note to Coffee a gogo - IF IT IS SUCH A BIG DEAL TO KNOW WHETHER YOUR CUSTOMER IS TAKING AWAY OR EATING IN, MAKE SURE YOU ASK! DON'T TRY TO FIGHT YOUR CUSTOMERS!

I dont know how this place has the cheek to charge £3.50 for a grated cheese sandwich with a tiny bit of cheap sweet pickle. Because the cheese is finely grated, it is impossible to eat without making a mess. I was tempted by the beef sandwich but they want £4.50 for this. A very tired looking set of sandwich fillings in the counter. Suggest you avoid

Love this little coffee shop, it opens from 8am, and serves hot and cold drinks, sandwiches made to order, jacket potatoes. They do salad boxes, Cake shop and snacks. All reasonably priced to. They have a mini seating area at the back of the shop where you can eat I'm if you wish. Staff are very friendly, polite and always have a smile. Would recommend a visit if your in the area.

Since this is round the corner from my office, I've been a few times to grab a quick sandwich for lunch for the sake of convenience. However I'll be giving it a miss in future. On my previous visits, the food has been mediocre yet highly overpriced for what it is. Today, the food was awful - a chicken and pesto mayo sandwich on a hard baguette. There was hardly any chicken in the fridge section at the front - I presume the person serving would have gone and got some more. But no, she used the tiny amount of chicken that was left over and made up for this by coating the entire thing in about 2 gallons of the pesto mayo, presumably so that I wouldn't notice. Needless to say, one of the most unpleasant things I've ever eaten. Don't waste your time with this place - there are plenty of coffee shops and sandwich bars in Cardiff that are a million times nicer.

Have been here a few times now because it's so close to work and no complaints. Freshly made sandwiches and a wide choice, friendly staff (although one member of staff tends to rush you a little as you decide, but not really a problem). Nice decor in the sit down area.

I thought the coffee was poor. (Milk & Sugar nearby offers much better. So do 29 Park Place and Artigiano.) However, the seating space at the rear is nice.

Was hungry one morning going to work and decided to call at the café and get some toast to take away. Extortionate price now £2 for two pieces of medium sliced bread with just butter and marmite. Price had rocketed from £1.20 for two slices to £2. Shame the place has gone downhill as where I work we were supporters of this café, but not any more. Miserable manageress now running the place.

Had I written this review 12 months ago it would have received 5 stars. Unfortunately, the café has consistently gone down-hill. Prices have hiked whereas quality of food preparation, coffee and customer service has vastly deteriorated. Recent visits have left me consistently feeling ripped off. Like many of my colleagues I won't be visiting again.

This is by far my fave place to go for lunch - fresh food made to order with staff who go that extra mile to make you feel welcome. My particular favourite lunch here consists on the hot wraps, which are delicious!

This is a mediocre coffee shop at best. The coffee is always bitter and the milk burnt. I've dropped in for coffee on the way to work numerous times and given it a fair old chance but I won't be going again, there are far better choices for coffee on my route to work. The place is overpriced and the cakes are bog standard.

Just picked up The Rubén wrap toasted with green kraut relish with side salad accompanied with a Latte. Great find close to my offices. Be back delo! Hywel!

I've come here several times now and I never cease to be amazed at how good the espresso is. Had lunch this time: just a sandwich and the aforementioned espresso. The sandwich was well made with good quality ingredients and the side salad was fresh (as expected given the quality of the espresso and cakes I've had before). The price was on the high end of normal for independent coffee shops but the espresso is on the low end of the normal price for such places so it more than balances out if coffee is the main thing bought here like is the case with me. The only disadvantage I have encountered is the fact that the seating is at the back and only accessible through a back lane. This is a very minor thing that is not really worth worrying about in all but the worst weather as the route is fairly sheltered and the only inconvenience is taking your umbrella with you if you make a return to the counter in the rain. The atmosphere is relaxed, the music is to my taste but not loud enough to be intrusive anyway so taste in music doesn't matter. The staff are polite, friendly (in a professional way) and willing to go out of their way to help, a fairly unusual trait for staff in independent coffee shops in this area sadly (there are very notable exceptions to this "rule" including this shop of course). Overall, a very nice place to come for a quiet coffee, especially for those who appreciate good coffee in good environments.

The cafe was lovely and cosy and the food was delicious. However, I didn't like that it was in 2 seperate buildings (why?!) and every time I wanted a cup of tea I had to go out in the pouring rain to order one. The cafe was advertised as 'no office, no problem' but the wi fi didn't work and the staff were dismissive when I asked if it would be fixed. I was unable to get any work done there as I needed internet access. The waitresses were inattentive and our dirty plates and cups were left on the table for 2 hours, despite her walking past our table multiple times. Not impressed.

This place is very near my place of work. I t has a very small eat in section at the back which is very cozy. They stock many home made products which have all been delicious. Well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. It is very close to the museum of wales

Visited here a good few times for coffee and home made cookies. Awesome sandwiches and all sorts of goodies all homebaked. Situated in the town centre of Cardiff, and owned by a local couple. Just try their Salt Beef Sandwich or the Pulled Pork Sandwich .... awesome and fairly priced. Very friendly service too.

This place is very reasonable and a ,lot more personal than the many chains that are in the centre. The small eatery with chairs and sofas is perfect to get away from the office for an hour.

I visited this quaint coffee shop whilst having an experience at a spa next door. The staff at the Spa recommended I try one of the sandwiches next door and I was not disappointed, fresh filling and packed fillings!

The best coffee outside of latin America. Great service from the people at this lovely coffee bar. Very cosmopolitan in it's style. I nearly always pick up a coffee on the way to Cardiff Uni and their house bean is much much better than Costa or Starbucks. The Food is "deli" style with lots of different choice every day. Great Cheese Melts with soup when it's cold!
