The Rose in Vale is a gem of a hotel. The current owners, Paul and Claire are incredibly accommodating, doing everything they can to make your stay the best it can be. The hotel is immaculately clean, the staff are brilliant and the food is really excellent! We'll definitely be going back. JE. Hagley.

Booked via a walking tour group ‘Untold Stories’. - a high end and costly package and couldn’t have been more disappointed with the hotel - it is 20 years out of date - the bed linen feels old - don’t expect nice crisp cotton sheets. There were hot water issues. The food was monotonous and awful - not at all like the fine cuisine on their website,- breakfasts were well below average - and quite faulty towers in the manner of which they were served. Packed lunches for the walk which were supposed to be full of local delicacies were just so bad with 2 soggy buns with ham and some corner shop wrapped cake bars. Untold story’s owner Melanie accompanied us on the trip and acknowledged that the hotel wasn’t up to standard ……. So I am absolutely flabbergasted that they have chosen to use this hotel again.

The hotel was great and the staff were fantastic. The hotel is in a great location between 2 small Cornish towns. It is a cosy and pretty country hotel and I would recommend for anyone looking for something different to the normal corporate feeling hotels. This hotel has a family run vibe with staff that have great knowledge of the area. We took their advice for some great day trips out. The food was excellent, with great choice for breakfast and dinner. We normally like to dine out for dinner and sample local restaurants, however the weather was not great, so we opted for dinner at the hotel 4 nights. Every night there was something new for us to try. Portion sizes are very generous too. The well stocked bar is great for a rainy afternoon in, and although not always manned 12 hours a day, a quick call to reception meant a nice cold beer within 2 minutes. Our room was clean, tidy and well decorated. It had everything we needed and expected. The bathroom was clean and had a nice powerful shower. The best thing about the hotel for us was the attentive and friendly staff that really couldn't do enough for us. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a stay in Cornwall and we would come back again if we revisited the area.

2nd and last visit. 2 rosette restaurant? Don't think so. Same restricted menu 3 nights in a row. Gets boring after that, even if it had been exceptional cuisine. Not enough staff. Fully booked?? By who?

We were looking forward to a relaxed dinner in a country house hotel. Sadly we were one of two couples (the other couple were early eaters and left the restaurant almost as soon as we came in). The house wine was vinegary, the Diet Coke from bottles was off, and the beef short rib - £23.50! - was three bits of horribly fatty meat on a bed of mash into which a few peas and beans had been stirred. The waitress was very sweet and we didn't feel able to complain as she was young and trying her best, but it was a truly dreadful meal. We are trying to laugh but to have food that bad, for such a high price, with no atmosphere (and invasive pop music in the background) - disappointing!

Good for a special evening out in a lovely setting. You may need to book depending on the time of year. Beautifully prepared and presented food in a relaxed atmosphere.

The food was stunning. Seasoned well. Hot and well cooked. Presentation is fabulous. I would highly recommend eating there. Waiting staff were excellent. Even though there was a large party in the same time as us, the wait for service and food was not at all compromised by it. We didn't feel rushed or an inconvenience. Please do take a night out to eat here.

We had a delicious dinner with good sized portions - so much so, that we couldn't manage pudding! My husband said his steak was the best he had ever tasted.

What a shame, we had such high hopes. My now wife and I visited here for a treat (mini moon). My wife’s mussels came out in good time but my steak was a good 10mins later. To top it off it was cold and even the peppercorn sauce was luke warm at best. I sent it back saying don’t panic things happen. Well they sent it back (the same steak) after giving it and the triple cooked chips a quick ping in the microwave. We didn’t stay for dessert. Instead walked up to the village pub the miners arms and had a dessert in there. It really feels like a place that’s going out of business, no atmosphere, one member of staff and poor quality food at a high price.

We really enjoyed our breakfast here, lovely Cornish English Breakfast and yummy toast and croissants 10/10. Staff were very good. Dinner was disappointing for me, soup had no flavor. Our son loved his burger, my husband and other son enjoyed their meals. 7/10 from us for the dinner.

We have just returned from an Easter break from this lovely hotel we were in the garden suite which for three adults and four dogs was ideal, the beds were comfortable and the linen was pristine, the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, we felt the only let down was the lack of variation on the evening menu, some traditional dishes could be added, and lose the supplement, overall a good stay thankyou.

Considering there's meant to be a top chef in the kitchen we were disappointed with the food overall - trying to hard to be something it's not - needs to get back to basics with some hearty fare instead of fancy measly morsels with fancy swirls.

We were staying at the hotel during May 2016. The hotel had recently changed hands so were wondering how things would go. No worries, seamless and professional service. The menu is very entertaining, good element of local produce. The portions are designed to entice the taste buds but not overfill. The lamb wa particularly good. We enjoyed some excellent wines during our stay. Not very busy there at the moment, so create your own "buzz".

We felt 'wowed' by this place but had a number of gripes so we're not sure why. It's in a lovely rural location and would be wonderful on a warm day or evening to stroll around the grounds. We went for one of those family events to celebrate a special birthday so didn't want to make a fuss at the niggles. The food was very good although there was a limited choice and a few of the party had little option but to go for items with a supplement to find something they liked. One of our starters included a rouge 'ingredient' - a hair but this didn't seem to be much of an issue to the restaurant. The puds were generous and there was a clever take on Blackforest Gateau although we weren't sure whether the large crumbs of dried cake were supposed to be 'soil' or it had just been crumbed a bit early and gone dry!The lighting was a bit bright from the downlighters but otherwise the decor is very pleasant and spotlessly clean.

We had the opportunity to spend a weekend at the Rose in Vale Mithian at the beginning of February. We very much look forward to a return visit. From the very friendly welcome on our arrival super room and wonderful food, it made for a super break. The weather was appalling and I felt it a wonderful touch when the (very friendly) Hotelier graciously contacted us offering to move his vehicle from his garage to allow us to park our sports car under cover. This is a family run hotel with a well deserved and excellent reputation. it has super gardens and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The restaurant of the hotel "Rose in Vale serves high quality contemporary cuisine in a modern setting. This is not as shown on the current website which portrays round tables with floor length tablecloths. I think it looks fine and the chairs are very comfortable. We had the taster menu as part of a special offer with the accommodation. As part of the offer it was good value. I have seen a review of the hotel complaining of the portion sizes. Unfair! It is a taster menu! We had a small vegetable soup to start, (served in a cup and saucer), which was very tasty, followed by delicious scallops, seared to perfection with crispy lemon zest and very thinly sliced crisp salami, it was delicious! The main course was a slow roasted belly pork that was the best I've ever tasted, fantastic! The chef had coated the outside in a crisp coating which was somehow made by blending the crackling, I'm not sure how but it was delicious! (I am going to try and cook something similar when I get home.) The other courses were fine, everything was attractively presented. If I was to improve it at all I would maybe add another small course, possibly a mis-en-bouche at the start? (I was undecided about the small jellies though.) The wine list was good too, we had a bottle of Portuguese "Irreverente" which complemented the flavours of the meal well. The restaurant is open to non residents, but be sure to book, on the night we stayed they were very busy. They also cater for larger parties, I would imagine it is a good venue for wedding receptionsAn excellent meal. Thank you

Great welcome and some amazing fish overlooking the harbour. Some delectable wines and amazing Cornish Gin. The grilled scallops simply the best and the Newlyn Crab quite perfect. Do not forget the desserts-the Fig Tart with Rum Raisins tasted out of this world just beaten into second place by the Pavlova. The staff really cared and with a small number of covers allowed for really effective delivery of fresh and well cooked food delivered to the table with perfect timing. Argoe deserves to star in Penryn.
