Excellent menu 😋 most enjoyable meals.

Just back from a 4 night stay at The Devonshire Arms... This is our second visit , and we came back to celebrate a milestone birthday in lovely surroundings. . It is a good place to stay.. we stayed in The Warner Edwards room and it has amazing long distant views..All the staff were welcoming and friendly, the service was 5*... Food was good with lots to choose from. Thank you to all the staff. The service they give is first class.. Highly recommend a stay here..

Was in the region , thought I get something to eat. The hype is real , it is great food but has a hefty price tag Had the glazed fish and potato-leek soup, both were amazing. The place was clean and tidy and the customer service was great. All and all definitely a place to attend.

Lovely food, must be the only place where a Chef doesn't swear. (Was fascinating sitting near kitchen, and she remained so professional throughout the Sunday lunch service-very impressed). Food was lovely and tasty (mixed meat Sunday Lunch), Other family members had Turkey lunch, Cheeseburger and mushroom stroganoff and all said it was divine. Highly recommend this place for meals

Great pies and the mushroom stroganoff is the best ever!

Excellent place, good atmosphere and even better food, even offered free entertainment on the night, (we had a little angry orange fella running around crying about some food he’d already eaten then sent his wife on Facebook to handle business for him) brilliant performance

Fillet steak was full of cartilage and gristle, offered £1 off when complained. Husband was a little cross and said no way at least £5 don’t insult me. Owner then posted his picture on Facebook saying he had insulted and threatened the waitress 😯😯 shocking customer service

We came for breakfast for my mums birthday service was excellent and food was amazing! Caroline went above and beyond to make it was special for her, thanks

This place is a joke. Went with the family after a lovely day at Rother valley after carefully checking the recommendations online. Bar was so noisy we couldn’t even make ourselves heard by the waitress taking our order. Bar was full of drunks shouting and swearing in a child friendly area. Drinks order took 15 minutes to arrive. Food took over an hour to arrive and it was nothing special and overpriced. Sharing platter was dried out and barely edible never worth the £60 price. Owner was very rude and threatening on the phone when we complained and left a laughing face on my negative Facebook review which tells you the kind of man he is. There was no attempt on his part to resolve the issue but thankfully his duty manager Dylan did what he could to resolve the situation. Won’t be coming back in a hurry. Avoid if you can

Had a great bottomless brunch experience here with 5 others Plenty of lovely food including vegetarian and gluten free options. There was mini burgers chicken kebabs onion bhaji Caesar salad sticky beef fries and much more. Drinks were flowing including g&t vodka and mixer Prosecco various spritzers lager and beer - plenty to choose from Great service throughout I can highly recommend this place

What a great experience we had last night. It was my partners birthday and he was welcomed with a happy birthday wish and also a lovely little card on the table. The food was exquisite and the service was just the right level of attentive without being intrusive . We cant wait to go back!!

Had a lovely dinner in the fabulous restaurant last night. Tuesday night and very busy, which speaks volumes for me. I had the flat iron steak, which was perfect & my wife had the sea bass also beautiful. Staff were great, it's a must go..!!

Beautiful venue with fantastic food and staff I have stayed here now on three occasions and visited for food multiple times, all I can say is on each occasion we have been extremely satisfied with the food variety and excellent quality and service.

I went to the Devonshire arms pub on Saturday with my family and I found staff very good and friendly when brought my fish cake for starter and I had two pints of Guinness zero beer and young man on the bar who served my dad to get my drink poured the Guinness zero beer properly on draught and my fish chips were cooked fresh and my mushy peas tasted like Sheffield style and the bill came 100 pound me and my mum and dad contributed towards the drinks and I had good time

We had an amazing stay here for our wedding in late December. Gorgeous food from breakfast to evening dinner. The waiting staff were happy to accommodate my gluten free foods and they were all very welcoming. All staff are a credit to the Devonshire Arms. We stayed in the Hendricks room which was lovely with the most comfortable bed, fluffiest towels, and the room was so warm and plush. Excellent ladies Julie and Dee looking after our room even acting as bridesmaid to the car. We left feeling spoiled and special. We'll definitely be back when next in the area 💕

Breakfast deal at a restaurant we have been to on many occasions. Usually great service and food. This must have been an off day. Waited 50 minutes after order taken - no food. Reminded servers and chef we had not received our breakfast. On enquiry the order had been lost. So a bad birthday breakfast start. Disappointing.

We stopped for some food at The Devonshire Arms some lunch. I had a Steak and Ale Pie and my mum had the Prawn and Crab Sandwich and both meals were of the highest quality -the pie was so rich in flavour . The place was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. The staff (Caroline and Amber) were lovely and very attentive, polite and warm. - a great pub!

We went to the Devonshire Arms to celebrate a family birthday and had an amazing experience as always. The food, drinks and service were top notch. The staff at the Devonshire Arms really set the place apart from other pubs. We felt so welcomed and well looked after. We'll definitely be returning in January to take advantage of the £25 off offer, when spending over £50. Thanks to everyone at the Dev for a great night.

Amazing gastro country pub with fantastic food and friendly staff

Nice evening meal. Great atmosphere in a very lively pub. Only issue is that there is limited parking in the car park.

The food was excellent as ever and all the staff are really lovely and helpful.

The food was of a very high standard, though the roast potatoes were slightly dry. However, despite pre-ordering, we had to wait around 45 minutes, which somewhat detracted from the overall experience.

Managed to book for Sunday lunch ( Note: book well In advance for Sunday lunch as it is very busy ). Our hosts Dylan & Danielle were wonderful, courteous, friendly and attentive . The Sunday lunch was served fresh and piping hot with delicious sides ( which cost extra ) . The quality of the food served is of a very high standard , and was thoroughly enjoyable. Only minor concern was a table with young children and a parent making a great deal of noise ( not conducive for a Sunday lunch ). Overall , very enjoyable , and somewhere that you would revisit to try other food Offerings . Note: There is a discretionary 10 percent service charge - which the Staff made me aware of .

Stayed 1 night in this wonderful Inn. We stayed in the Whiteley Neil superior superking room and we couldn't have asked for a more luxurious night away. Bed is extremely comfortable, room spotless and all the little extra touches adds to the experience. We both had steak in the restaurant in the evening and it was delicious. We couldn't resist the dessert menu and that didn't disappoint either. Lots of choices for breakfast and you definitely don't go home hungry at this place. A big shout out to all the staff especially Caroline who is so friendly. We will definitely return. Thank you Denise and Ian

My wife and I stayed last Thursday and Friday , from the moment we stepped into the place we were greeted with a warm reception from Lee who was very helpful from the word go, offering to carry our luggage up to the room then showing us all the facilities, he continued to be helpful throughout our stay, The rooms an excellent and very good value for money , the food in the restaurant both breakfast and evening meal were a high standard and very generous portions , The entire staff must all enjoy their work as they carried out all their duties with smiles on the faces and all were very friendly indeed John was an excellent host and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this venue to prospective customers, Although this was our first visit it will not be our last and we are already planning our next trip to this excellent little gem.

We have been today the 27 th October 24 to celebrate my daughter in laws birthday the staff were helpful with her cake brought it out to us. Most of us ordered a desert we were waiting for 30 minutes only to be told they had gone to another table, they did apologise but we didn’t want to wait any longer.

Beautiful Sunday dinner accommodating for all tastes and reasonably priced too, offer of beef, turkey, pork and nut roast. Everything was cooked to perfection, we had lovely desserts too, highly recommended. This was our first visit but I am sure we will be bacm

The food is really good. I stayed near by in a B&B so had dinner here. Service was brilliant and food was fantastic.

Wow, what an amazing place. The staff are all very welcoming. We had lunch with family before staying overnight. The lunch was the best we've had in a long time. The steak was cooked to perfection. The sea bass was so delicious that I could've eaten that again, but the portions are perfect. Grandad had the apple pie for dessert. It was bigger than he thought, so we all helped. Amazing home cooked food. The room we had was clean and cosy. Even real milk in the fridge for tea and coffee. There is so much attention to detail. Sad to leave after a much needed tasty breakfast. You can even have a continental breakfast, I was tempted, but nah. 😃😃

Went for Saturday lunch. Food and drink good. Service not so in the bar area. Had to find menus and ask to order food. Didn't like the 10% service charge automatically added to the bill.

Beautiful! I wanted a quiet country evening with good food and accomodation. I got so much more. I had booked sir robin of locksley suite, so glad I did! We had such a warm welcome from staff, it was so easy for a short break. Our Evening meal was superb. We are a little picky but my husband's steak was amazing, I loved the fish! The suite was lovely and super clean... Very important to me! What a beautiful little place in the middle of nowhere. A massive shout out to the lovely staff and breakfast was perfect. For a short stay, clean, good food and a warm welcome the Devonshire Arms is perfect... Need I say more. Hoping to return soon.

Beautiful! Amazing food, best steak my husband has had in years! We stayed in the suite which was everything we'd hoped for. Staff are friendly, and super helpful. Every detail made an easy and relaxing short break away from home. Lovely breakfast too! Highly recommend, will definitely be back!

The Devonshire arms is the perfect setting whether it be for an overnight stay whilst exploring the stunning scenery in Derbyshire . A place to celebrate special occasions with family and loved ones , a romantic meal for 2 or to start the day off in the perfect English way with a belly busting breakfast. Attention to detail is paramount within The Dev and the staff are friendly welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We will definitely be back to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary

What a fabulous surprise. This pub / boutique hotel surpassed my expectations. Location ideal for Chatsworth House and surrounding interests. Staff, truly friendly and service excellent. Food outstanding. They know their market. Property and rooms spotless. Water bowls outside for dogs and a couple of dog friendly rooms. Would I return, you bet!! Thanks for a great stay!!

Decided to treat ourself to the Sunday dinner platter and i 100% recommend!! Everything cooked to perfection and we cleared the lot.

We held our sons Birthday at The Devonshire, absolutely fantastic night was had by all! The staff team went above and beyond, The buffet food was amazing. 5 star service all round. Definitely a night to remember!!!

We used the Devonshire for our wedding reception and we are so glad that we did. The quality of service and evening that they provided for us far exceeded our expectations. We met with Lauren multiple times before the big day and she ensured all of our wishes were met and that the day would deliver in every way for us. The setting was beautiful. We were able to use the gardens opposite for some beautiful photos. The venue provided the perfect place for our guests to wait with their welcome drinks before we arrived. We opted to provide our own DJ which was no issue and the room was laid out as per what we were after. A few tables for our elder guests and a nice large dance floor - which we made the most of! We chose to have the stone baked pizzas which were great. Our guests loved them and it kept our do a casual affair which is what we were after. Fortunately, the weather stayed nice enough for us to make use of the outdoor space. The bedrooms were perfect and the suite for my wife and I was lovely - I only wish we could have spent a little more time in it! We used the rest of the rooms for our parents and best man and they were all very complimentary of the facilities. Breakfast was fab the next day, by all accounts, though we had dashed off for our honeymoon by then! I would strongly recommend anyone wanting a gorgeous country pub setting for an event to consider The Devonshire. We had around 90 guests and it was just the right size. We were so well looked after and they ensured our day was as special as we hoped it would be. Thank you so much to Lauren and the rest of the team for helping make our wedding day so special.

Not stayed here, but visit for food and a pint whenever possible. Great staff, all very friendly and helpful. Brilliant food (I've never had a bad meal here!) and a great selection of drink. There's pictures of the rooms on display and they look fantastic. If they're done to the same quality as the bar and restaurant, which I have no doubt that they will be, they'll be awesome. Family friendly and full of atmosphere. 5 out of 5, would highly recommend.

We’ve visted for Sunday lunch a few times recently and have to say it must be the best we’ve ever had. The service is 2nd to none and the food is superb! Such a lovely place to dine!

Family gathering for my mum's 95th birthday celebrations. Been coming here for ages and never had a bad meal. Unfortunately it wasn't at its best. 7 of us had the roasts. The meat was tuff, no crackling with the pork dishes, too much gravy, small portions and little variety of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings over cooked and the meals were cold. If it hadn't been my mum's special occasion we would have complained, but didn't want to spoil her day. Shame as usually is top notch.

So, we came with high expectations. These were emphasised by the price point. So, a few comments: 1. Our overall meals were good. They were not spectacular and didn't justify the price point whatsoever, but were. My wife had clear salad topped with sea bass. The salad was a pretty small array of cutnup little gem lettuce. How it costs £10 as the base of the dish baffled us. My short Rob ragu was good, but for £19 was expecting a bit more imagination or wow factor. It was a bit pedestrian and lacking imagination.. 2. This was left me fuming. We spent £12 on tempura prawns for a starter. They were TINY. In the current financial climate, I am really not sure how they can justify that price. The manager should really question themselves. 3. Tipping. I always like to tip. I don't like to be forced to tip. A tip was pit on the bill and then the waitress asked pretty bluntly if we wanted to include it when we paid. As it was already on our bill, we felt pressured. (This is not a comment on our individual waitress, more a reflection on restaurant policy). To sum up. Nor a bad meal, at all. But, overpriced. No better than other local options like the Britosh Oak or Angel and Harlequin. Really, no better at all. Not sure we would eat there again.

We were there on 31st July for my husbands birthday the food was exceptional we had the chateaubriand {wow ) all the staff were smling our waitress Cat was very attentive and friendly a perfect birthday thank you very much. .

I WONT RUSH BACK - IN FACT ILL NEVER GO BACK…. This place is Shooting way above their pretentious heads.….. Sunday lunch was truely over rated and certainly overpriced, I paid £6 extra for extra meat and was served two little extra bits of beef and pork, a side of (extra) mash was £4.…… I sent the meal back just to rec.a dinner that had undercooked and overcooked aspects, poor chef ability…. Yorkshire puddings was burnt, parsnip way way way undercooked, in fact it hadn't been cooked.…..all toll the dinner wasn't worth the money (£26) and I advise not to believe all the reviews….. They were probably left by rich pretentious people in the village.….. I paid £34 for a Sunday dinner and a pint plus the service charge.….service charge was £11 too, daylight robbery…… charging £11 to serve you food they sell you at expensive rates is obserd.….. i refused to pay £9 for a soup starter and or the same amount (£9) for a little slice of millionaire shortcake (probably pre bought from costco) ABSOLUTE DAYLIGHT ROBBERY.….. We were only served a drizzle of gravy, we had to ask for more, we had to ask for mint sauce and when it came, it came in the most pathetic small tiny binky little milk bottle lid type vessel and placed on the table between five of us, Joe, another part of the Bad service we pay the £11 for was not one single waiter or waitress came up to our table and asked us how things were now that is poor from any standard even if you live on the manner and being dragged up 😆, so just to put facts and figures into contention, if a family of four can afford to go to the “pretentious” Devonshire arms, buys an expensive drink, a daylight robbery starter, a rip off £22 mix meat dinner with extra meat (not) and add extra mash at the £4 rip off rate per scoop and a pre bought from Costco desert it will cost a family of x4 well over £200…… you do the maths.…. = “ DAYLIGHT ROBERY” (FACT) think I'm roasting a little chicken from Aldi Nxt weekend for the family (6) £3.50 for chicken, and £4 worth of veg, (includes veg for soup starter, and £2.50 on a desert .….totals £10.… divided that by x4 = £2.50 per serving 😆 and we all know you cannot be home-made food, especially Sunday dinners….. like I said earlier I’ll never return…… why would I or anyone else, other than to let the owner John Tompkins sit back and laugh at anyone stupid enough to sit and order his overpriced retention poorly executed food…… I say let him keep it, John also made contact with my sister June and told her she was barred for the review I left here.…. What a little petty saddo…..

Attended a celebration at this lovely country pub eating house plus you can stay over night beautifully situated in Derbyshire countryside comfortable and relaxing food excellent drinks fairly priced great sitting out area enjoyed my visit unfortunately I didn't get chance to sample the menu because i attended a celebration and enjoyed the buffet very much I am definitely coming again to try the menu and enjoy a meal in beautiful surroundings

Fantastic stay at this wonderful pub/restaurant with rooms. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our room and had everything explained. They managed to get us into the restaurant for our evening meal, even though they were very busy and full. Room was outstanding, very spacious and comfortable and extremely clean. The evening meal was also spot on, we ordered different meals but tried each others and I was completely impressed with both. Both of us were full after the main course, but because it had been so enjoyable, I couldn't not have a dessert, we decided to share, and that was my only mistake, once the Sticky toffee pudding arrived I wanted it all to myself. The staff were brilliant, very friendly and even during the busy evening they still attended to every whim and need. We will definitely be returning.

We hired the gazebo for a sporting event with friends and had a great time. The staff were really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Lauren was really helpful co-odrinating our booking and the food was lovely. We will definately be back again and would recommend the gazebo to anyone looking for private outdoor space amongst scenic views.

Myself & my wife have Been here a few times but yesterday we took some friends there for the first time for drinks , the staff are brilliant and made us all feel comfortable attention to detail is always outstanding !!

It was our first visit, as recommended by a friend, and this place did not disappoint. We were served by Caroline who was a fantastic host, and made us feel very welcome. The food was just incredible, and although we ordered more than maybe our bellies could take, it was worth it and we will definitely be back for another visit, even though it’s 45 mins away from where we live.

Stayed in the amazing Robin of Loxley suite with our daughter on way home from Leeds university to the South West. Stunning luxurious bed and double sofa bed,amazingly stylish decor, 3 pure white cotton robes and slippers, ac, shutter, cordless charger, Alexa, plugs where you. Need them, coffee pod machine, milk in fridge, the list goes on and on. We ate dinner and had sharing plates and chips....incred. breakfast was second to none. All in all, cant wait to come back. The staff are all super friendly and helpful.

Every time we have been it has been brilliant, staff are very friendly and helpful the food is amazing not had one bad meal yet, the drink selection is too everyone's taste will be going back time and time again

I went for dinner here on Friday evening as a family of 4. Ordered a confit burger and the first bite I took out of it had a large piece of bone in it which cracked my tooth. I had a quiet word with the waitress who offered to refund the burger for me (well I wasn't going to eat it!) and her response was "well we've been serving them all week and not had any issues". After expressing my disappointment she also took 1 drink off of the bill of 4 people. I asked to speak to a manager but the staff said that the owners weren't on site, so they took my details for the owner's of the pub to give me a call which has never happened. Overall a really dissapointing experience which completely ruined our evening out. I'm particularly annoyed that nobody has bothered to follow up in relation to the issues as promised.

We came for food and drinks and it is very nice. They have a playground outside, with plenty of outdoor seating. The food menu is also good, and it's very nice inside. I had the steak and ale pie, which was very tasty, BUT the meat was sooo fatty 😫 pretty much every mouthful I had to dump the fat into a bowl. The homemade chips were lovely! My husband had the Nduja beef pizza, which I thought was very tasty! But he said I quote 'just tastes like Bolognese on a pizza' all in all the service was good, prices were standard, nice atmosphere and we'd give the food another go if were to go back.

Met friends here for breakfast, was beautiful with very attentive server Caroline. Took advantage of a discount for pre booking a table so exceptional value for money. Couldn’t ask for better.
