Figaro in North East Derbyshire

Omg wonderful!! And what a plateful- not just mine, everyone's plat was brimming with deliciously concocted and beautifully presented food. You can tell it's a really popular place by the amount of regulars that came in during my visit and how well the staff new them- and how friendly everyone was. A great find, I'll definitely be back- and free parking right outside too! (And a bus stop very near)

Amazing food and lovely friendly staff, my husband and dog are regulars. And we have been coming here for a long Time and always excellent. Very dog friendly! We love the mushrooms and we have had a couple of evening meals here that have been Fantastic! Highly recommend !

2nd time visiting, 2nd breakfast item and omg, this place is incredible. I can’t recommend anywhere more than figaros.

Fantastic bread and olive starter with homemade bread, Mushroom pizza for mains with sides of coleslaw, kimchi salad & cajun cauliflower. I don't like cauliflower, but I tried some of my wife's and itx the best way to eat it! Cherry ice cream and fresh coffee for dessert. Thanks to attentive staff for a lovely evening.

We've been going to Figaro off & on for lunch for a while now. Atmosphere, service, & food have always been fab. But recently we decided to try stopping in for weekend breakfast and for a Friday Evening. Although quieter than we're used to, we weren't disappointed on either visit. Same friendly, helpful, & efficient team delivering freshly made, delicious vegan food. Breakfast is pictured & was both tasty & generous in terms of portion size. Dinner was just as amazing: 1 big pizza & tasty healthy salad between 2, and the affagato to finish was a nice touch. Thank you! Always satisfied without breaking the bank. Highly recommend!

Wow, got recommended by a family member and they didn’t do it justice. We ordered the smoked beans on toast and the overnight oats and we were so impressed with everything. The staff were so friendly and sweet, I can’t recommend them enough for a nice place to grab breakfast or lunch.

Nice little place but tables are very cramped. Was busy tonight as there was an event taking place and the staff struggled to keep on top of things which was disappointing as it was a set menu with everyone having the same main and dessert. Had to ask twice for cutlery and it took 4 attempts to get my friend's dessert correct - much confusion re ice-cream (coupled with an eye roll from the server). Then to add to the disappointment i was overcharged for my drinks. I queried this with the cashier who said it didnt matter what it said on the price list on the table, the button on the till was correct and that is what she wanted from me. By this time i was less than impressed and suggested they updated their menus to show the correct price so as not to mislead future customers. Needless to say my comment wasnt well received. Will i be returning? I'm sure you can guess the answer to that question. 😔

We had high hopes after reading the many great reviews, but sadly it seems very overhyped. The food was underwhelming, slightly under-cooked and no seasoning. It turned out to be a let-down for our family outing.

A lovely place to eat and relax. Delicious food and excellent service from all the staff. All very helpful and friendly. Wish it was closer to home for me as I'd definitely visit more often. (The option to takeaway desserts was greatly appreciated too!)

I spotted this place a week prior to my 1st visit there with my wife. As a couple who are in the early stages of having dietary issues with dairy products, this place looked like it had the type of menu to answer to our problems. So we called in on a Saturday morning without a prior booking. We were warmly welcomed by the 2 young members of staff attending that day we and opted for an indoor table. After looking through the menu we opted for Frankie Pancakes and Avocado on toast. And boy did they deliver. They were not only stunning dishes on presentation but also super tasty. I also had a flat white coffee which was made with oat milk. Again this too was great. All in all a very good experience. The young girl who served us was very polite and very knowledgeable about the products we inquired about. Definitely worth a visit. We will 💯 % be returning.

Figaro is a credit to our wonderful village community. It is so lovely to be able to walk from my house to a vegan restaurant that serves beautiful food and drinks. In the winter, I can recommend the hot chocolate with whipped cream on top, it’s delicious with oat milk. The assortment of cakes available are scrumptious: marble cake and chocolate cake are up in my favourites. If you’re a vegan or not I really recommend this place to grab some food or drinks, I promise you’ll love it. Also, the portions are amazing and you don’t leave still hungry. The staff are all super friendly too which makes it an even more enjoyable experience.

Called here for a flat white made with coconut milk (my first!) Even if you're not vegan or require plant based it doesn't mean you shouldn't visit. The lady who served me was very polite and welcoming. She informed me about the gluten free options available which I'll hopefully try the next time I visit.

Whilst holidaying in the Peak District we did a very hilly bike ride just to eat here. It was totally worth the effort! We received a very warm welcome and were spoilt for choice for lunch dishes. The breakfasts look amazing but are only served until 11.45am. It didn't matter, though, as we could have had a choice of 2 soups, paninnis, moussaka, lots of different pizzas or salads. All plant based, and if you don't want a full meal, there is lots of tea, coffee, alcohol, soft drinks, cakes, and pastries. We had a moussaka and a jackfruit and mushroom paninni. The food was delicious and the portions very generous. There is not a great deal of vegan food in this area (outside of Sheffield) so we will definitely be back to support this lovely cafe. Oh and they are also open until 10pm on Saturday evenings.

Just visited for the first time and absolutely loved it. The food is so good, I didn’t want my meal to end! Lovely drinks and cakes too. Great service, very chilled and beautifully decorated. Can’t wait to go back!

I pop into Figaro for their Soup to Go - it's absolutely delicious. You can tell the ingredients are super fresh. Many of the soups have immune boosting ingredients like ginger, so really it's a medicine in a cup. Yummy!

Lovely plant based cafe with a wide variety of options for everyone. Very friendly staff. Would recommend the pizzas.

In short - Delicious food from this little gem with very friendly and polite staff! Would definitely recommend and will visit again when in the area 👍 Useful info - All vegan, plenty of wholefood healthy options, fair pricing. Check out the specials board. There is free parking available outside. Great for small groups, could probably accommodate larger groups (maybe around 20). We visited here on the way to Hardwick Hall and we were not disappointed. The staff were lovely people and the atmosphere was chilled and comfortable. They offer a good variety of menu choices with a mix of whole food and a couple of alt-options like pizzas with mozz or sausages in the all day brunch should that take your fancy; which for us, it did that day 😜. We tried the Thai pizza and the Margherita pizza. Both were freshly prepared pretty quickly and were very tasty. The portion was a good size, though probably a little too big for lunch, but it didn't stop me! The tea offering is good and some unusual flavour combinations which we've not had before. We enjoyed the White Pear and Ginger, and the Egyptian Mint which were so good we ordered more to take away. Unfortunately, there were (potential) customers who came in and upon seeing the menu and confirming it was vegan, left. All I would like to say is, if you find yourself in that position, please try to think about the staff and give it a try. It won't kill you to try the scrumptious food they have on offer and which they take great pride in serving. But it's pretty upsetting for them if you just leave without even giving it a chance. After all, whatever your views, they're just a small business trying to make a go of it. So if you live in the area, please give them a go. Who knows, you may love it!

Snooty staff, menu needs to be pre ordered which is stated no where

I was really looking forward to my visit to Figaro, as it’s hard to find decent vegan food and somewhere that offers GF options as well. I had seen the glowing reviews, however I was disappointed. It was very quiet with only one table of four other than us, my mum and aunt just had cake and coffee but I ordered avocado and white beans on toast. It took 45mins for my food to arrive and it was very dry and bland, I left most of it. My mums cake was good and the coffee was excellent but it was pricey and my food was not great so won’t be coming back unfortunately.

Super spot for a vegan brunch and now a regular breakfast and lunch location for us - great food, lovely staff. We are still exploring the menu; but every meal has been lovingly prepared and fresh

I've been a regular at this place since it opened, and it used to be my top choice for amazing vegan food. The first experiences were truly fantastic, with each dish being a real delight. However, since the original chef left, I believe his name was Steve, there's been a noticeable drop in the food quality. The staff are still friendly and create a welcoming atmosphere, but the special touch that used to make each dish outstanding is missing. The food is okay, but it doesn't quite reach the excellence that set this place apart initially. I hope the management can address this and bring back the exceptional culinary experience that made this vegan cafe stand out. I fondly remember the passion and culinary skill of Steve, and it would be great to see that revived.

We had a lovely breakfast at Figaro- crumpets and berry compote which was delicious. The waitress was so friendly. The food is plant based but there was plenty of choice. We will go again.

I am not vegan (although I do eat very little meat), but I have been here a few times & the food is excellent. The menu is quite varied & they do special menus (it's been international for the last few weeks), the portion sizes are generous & prices are average, so not on expensive side. Food is very fresh - which is to be expected and from talking with the chef most is sourced locally. Great desserts, although I usually have to take it away. Even if you are not vegan, but like your veggies, I would still recommend. Since leaving this review I understand that the chef has changed, so food options may be different.

Great little cafe. Doesn't look anything special on the outside, but the atmosphere, food and service is great. Semi-regular visitor now. Cooked breakfast was lush and the coffee is lovely as well.

We recently moved to Wingerworth and feel so lucky to have Figaro on our doorstep. Stephen is a really talented chef who is always coming up with new recipes and has a very obvious passion for food. He uses a lot of locally sourced, high quality produce. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommended Figaro to anyone looking for top quality food in a cosy local restaurant. The fact that the whole menu is plant based is just another bonus, and I think everyone will be able to find a dish they love. Just updating to say I am really sorry to hear that Stephen left and will miss chatting to him as well as his excellent food. Happy to report the quality of food remains top notch!

Went here for the 1st time for my birthday, cute little place, great service, amazing quality and quantity of food with our portions and reasonable prices. Some set menu choices, but changes seasonally which is great for exploring new dishes and you know you're getting freshly made food. Will definitely be coming back again many times, new favourite restaurant!

We've lived in London and NY trying all the vegan places and this is up there with the very best! Unbelievable that this is in Chesterfield!

I was amazed to find this fantastic cafe hidden away in Wingerworth. The staff were very friendly and the menu was varied and interesting. I had THE BEST homemade felafels and the roast veg salad was so generous that we were too full for cake which was packed up for us to eat later....lemon and blueberry, also delicicous. Well worth a visit.

The best place to eat in Chesterfield with the bonus that the whole menu is plant based. I have eaten here many times, today my brother and I had the Wellington which was delicious and we finished off with lovely turmeric lattes. I can't recommend this place enough.

Imagine a place where every dish on the menu is unique and delicious, but contain absolutely zero animal products. Plate after plate of goodness, this place is good for the soul ❤️ I only wish we lived closer but I would be there every day if we did! It is worth a journey from wherever you are, for the freshness of the ingredients and the care taken by the chef as he lovingly creates your dinner from his ever changing menu. The paella I had last night was perfection and looked as good as it tasted. My partners pasta was cooked to perfection and to be honest I was sad I hadn’t ordered both dishes! A mention too for all the staff who have never been anything short of wonderful! I wish all restaurants were exactly like this one!

Fantastic food, whether you're vegan or not. The chef is passionate about his food & sources produce as locally as possible to create imaginative & tasty recipes that can be enjoyed by anyone. His love for his work is literally on every plate. The menu varies depending on what is available & changes frequently. I have been a few times & have never been disappointed. It is exceptional value for money & staff & venue are pleasant.

Lovely selection of well made cakes with plant based ingredients. As a non vegan, it was impossible to tell the difference between their lotus biscoff cake and one made with milk or eggs. Great coffee and a warm welcome on arrival.

Visited for lunch after reading a review in the Derbyshire Times. The service was excellent, Anne, Paris and Beth made our stay very enjoyable. We had the winter vegetable soup, tomato soup both with focaccia bread and a roasted vegetable sandwich on focaccia. All home made and delicious and vegan, I’m not a vegan but very tasty especially the focaccia bread. I wish we were in the area longer to revisit for dinner.

We are lucky enough to have this on our doorstep and it's one of our favourite places ever. The food is always delicious, beautifully made and real effort is put into the menu. Steve is so creative and never fails to amaze us with his dishes. We have frequented here since they opened and will continue to do so. This is a must visit if you are in the area- vegan or not, you won't be disappointed.

The service was good. The food was a little over the top on size portions but delicious. The place has my recommendation for vegan eaters and otherwise.

This was our first visit and no amount of 5* reviews we read could have prepared us for just how excellent Figaro is. We chose the shared platter for two as a main. The presentation of the large boards (per person) and extra dishes (one, a delicious aubergine dish) was beautiful with its edible flowers and variety of ingredients. Not that we needed it, but the portion size was huge so much so that we took the spare home in containers for the next day. The waitresses are so friendly and helpful and the chef came out to chat to us and explained about the sourcing of the ingredients. You wouldn't know that the cheeses were vegan and a lot of the platter could be called vegetarian. The chef kindly prepared the boards so I could have gluten-free. Altogether, a great dining experience in an attractive setting. Thank you to all involved.

Figaros has to be one of the best vegan eaterys I've been to. From the moment you step in to the moment you leave you are greated by the loveliest people. The chef is a genius and makes the best bread and food. He also said he can make virtually the whole menu gluten free. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were huge. Definitely worth a visit. We got our next visit booked in our diary as we were driving home!

A great place to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mushrooms on sourdough bread toast was amazing washed down with a pear and ginger tea. Recommended for vegan and none vegans alike.

Yummy food; a very addictive place to eat. Smaller portions would be fine.

A member of our family recommended Figaro and so we went for an evening meal. Prior to turning up, one of our party had a difficult time asking what the specials would be as the standard menu would cause problems for their dietary intorelances. We ordered 4 drinks, 3 starters and 4 mains. One of the wines was horrible but also one of the starters was amazing and the other 2 were fine. For the main courses, two were well below average and the other two were good. A bill of £115 without tip means that this is way too expensive for a meal that did not meet expectations. We woudn't visit again but that is a shame because one of the starters and one of the main courses were fantastic.

Excellent food presented beautifully and served by friendly staff. Great value too. I wouldn't hesitate to come back!

Update April 2023: Came back. It's still as amazing! Great portion sizes, so much choice, everything just so tasty. This really is an amazing eatery. Original from October 2022: Wow, wow, wow. What an amazing find. I'm going to avoid doing the whole "this is a great place for vegan food" thing - this is a great place for food, full stop. Really attentive service from the waitresses and the chef personally chatted through the specials, which was amazing, and great to see that he'd designed the dishes around whatever he'd had delivered that day, including some beetroot from an allotment. The dishes were all completely fantastic, and the portions were all a really good size, which we felt offered great value for money. We don't usually have starters, and didn't really need them, but they were too tempting to turn down. The nicest meal out I've had in a long, long time. It's a bit of a cliche I suppose, but if I could give this 6 stars to make it stand out from other places I've rated as 5 over the years I would.

Had a disappointing experience this evening. Had seen the great reviews and was surprised when two of the dishes we were served were very different from their descriptions on the menu. When we pointed out that our son had ordered garlic pesto linguine and had instead been served roasted veg pasta puttanesca, we were told that they did not have linguine and that it was basically the same dish. My wife’s Mexican salad was also meant to have tortilla chips but they were non- existent!

Fresh food fabulously cooked! A total joy to see staff with a total dedication to their business and its menu - so enthusiastic! Love their breakfast granola fruit bowl. Everything about Figaro just makes me want to go back for more…

The chef Steve and all of the team always make us feel very welcome. My brothers and I were visiting from 3 different parts of Britain, having not been there for 6 months and we were remembered from the last visit. The food is absolutely outstanding. The service is quick and polite. We will always frequent Figaros every time we visit. Thank you for your kindness.

Fabulous lunchtime sandwiches - home made and very fresh ciabatta bread with a Mexican style filling and salad. Not your average snack - a major culinary event! Huge meal, great value, lovely staff. And everything is plant based.

Always enjoy a visit to Figaro and as they're dog-friendly, I can pop in even if I have the pooch with me. Food excellent, and great to have a vegan eatery in the village.
