Stayed for 2 nights. Had a lovely large room overlooking the village green with. Good, preordered and freshly cooked breakfast. Had dinner on second night - all good and looked after well by friendly staff and owners. Weather good enough to have tea in the garden at the back where there is also a nice outdoor courtyard.

We stayed as a family of 3 in room 6, with the four poster bed and the roll top bath which we enjoyed using after 2 busy days of sightseeing locally. I really can't remember when I last slept so well. The food from the restaurant was delicious, we ate there both nights and enjoyed both the menu, puddings and the specials. Both mornings the chefs were kind enough to make our son pancakes as he doesn't eat full English breakfasts - this was so kind of them and he really enjoyed them rating them top joint with his granny's! Also we loved the homemade croissants. The staff were so lovely even when dealing with one of the most obnoxious and aggressive customers I have ever witnessed in my life after breakfast yesterday. Well done. Thank you so much for a memorable and very comfortable stay. I will have to find a way to get a bath like that in my house!

First class food first class service. What more do you want. It's lovely to experience cuisine like this. It's rare to find fine dining that's is proud to use local produce (meat, fish and veg) the menu is quite small but that just means the chefs can focus on producing beautiful dishes. I thought the prices were affordable mains were around 20-23 pounds. The food was delicious, cooked to perfection, served on a hot plate, everything was so tasty we cleared our plates. You could taste the quality of the ingredients. I can't rate this establishment high enough. I've eaten in many eateries across UK and EU and it's up there. I try to give an honest review and this is my experience. The wine was really good quality to and I thought reasonably priced 7.60 chardonnay 175ml. The restaurant was packed at 7pm as dining stops at 8.30pm on the Saturday we were there. The portions for us any way are the right size as it allows you to have a starter, a main meal plus a pudding without feeling so full you never want to eat again. My husband and I loved our meals this evening. We chose Venison and fillet of Sea bass all from local suppliers. The food melted in the mouth. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are coming back in Dec. We live about an hour away but it's well worth the trip up or even a stop over. We didn't stay in the hotel guest rooms but thought I'd mention this in case you were looking for accommodation. Highly recommend. P.S sorry the only pic I have is empty plates.

Visited with my wife and daughter. Had the usual warm welcome and was very quickly seated with menus. I explained we had limited time and they responded with quick efficient service. The food was excellent, as usual. The relatively new chef has really made his mark with tasty and wonderfully presented food at a decent price. Jiverjones must have ears En elsewhere!,

The quality of the food was good, however a little on the slim side when it came to vegetables with just a single slice of carrot, two miniscule clusters of broccoli and half a roast parsnip as part of a roast for example. The desserts were on the small side too with just a slither of chocolate tart. After a 3 course meal to come away still feeling hungry wasn’t great. There was a general lack of interaction from waitresses when it came to asking if we would like more drinks or checking food was okay, we were also not given the choice of a wine list to select bottles of wine from to enjoy with our meal. We had to get a soup spoon from a nearby tray for one of the mains as the waitresses disappeared once food was served. It felt like we were on a conveyor belt, not a relaxing Sunday afternoon out with friends to enjoy good food and wine whilst catching up. It was unfortunate that we didn’t manage to have more drinks/coffees etc and extend our visit once we had eaten desserts as we were hurried along by a waitress who explained we would need to vacate the table in ten minutes as they had another sitting arriving. Not expected and deeply disappointing. Our table was booked for 12 and we didn’t get seated until 12.30pm which cut our table time down further, very much we want you to eat, pay up and leave. As a table of 12 that spent £400 + and would have spent more still, we didn’t expect to have our visit cut short. We were not told that there was a second sitting on the table at time of booking nor when the preorder was placed. If there had been we would have gone elsewhere where the table would have been ours for the duration of our visit dictated by what time we chose to leave. Just a little note - I understand paying a deposit when booking a larger party but to have to preorder your whole meal including dessert on a Sunday lunch menu where there is a limited choice anyway seems questionable. A disappointingly average Sunday lunch out.

Visited with friends for Sundy lunch. It had that Emperors new clothes vibe, everyone convincing each other how good the food is when it really isn't. The beef was fatty and chewwy, my friend left hers. The menu is limited which is fine if what you do get is exceptional. Nothing to tempt us into having a dessert. On the plus side, the venue is atmospheric, the staff are nice and I can even forgive the fact it needs a good cobweb clean.

Food was very poor for the price a lot of rocket salad, the TV picture and channel availability was poor, I had to reroute the aerial and retune the TV to get the queen's Platinum celebrations. The shower needed servicing chead was clogged up and the whole room was in need of modernisation and a make over. The TV and the shower should be in first class working order and not just put in a room and adding to the description. All in all an over expensive 3 night break, and I went covid positive the day we left.

Probably properly described as a small country hotel or inn, with an excellent restaurant, but also a local pub, the Devonshire Arms is an excellent night out. We came in at the back from the smallish car park, through the busy bar (with some dining), then a comfortable seating area & into the dining area. The ceilings of the building are higher than many local pubs, which gives a lighter feel, the decor is contemporary & the table was pale natural wood. Classy but comfortable. We enjoyed olives, bread with oil & balsamic while we waiting for the mains to arrive: several confit of duck leg which came with braised red cabbage, mash, greens & jus. The duck skin was crisp all over & the meat was beautifully cooked. Others had steak, again beautifully cooked, accompanied by garlic butter, chips & dressed leaves. I had the guinea fowl breast, with leg & pistachio bon bon (!), dauphinois potatoes, greens (cabbage & french beans) & cep sauce. Delicious. The food was also beautifully presented, with expert and friendly service.Being new to this area it was our first visit, but won't be our last. Memorable evening.

I had the hake and it was really good and perfectly cooked. The room was simple but had a nice ensuite. I wish that the chef had some input into the breakfast, as it was rather ordinary - not bad but not special. My only complaint would be a lack of hooks on the bathroom door and in the shower - I like somewhere to hang my clothes and put my shampoo in the shower without having to put it on the floor.

It always seems to me that those of us who enjoy a good lunch any day of the week are sometimes sadly neglected on Mondays! Not this Monday though when Hubby and I strolled back into the Devonshire Arms for lunch. I last reviewed this place in 2013 - I was impressed then and I’m still impressed. The service was friendly and efficient throughout and could not have been bettered. A glorious home made Duck Pate and Chutney and a Mushroom and Mascarpone Soup hit the spot for two hungry travellers. I followed that with a beautiful piece of Hake served with a butter sauce, finely shredded cabbage and a tasty potato cake. Chris went for traditional Organic Bangers and Mash and greatly enjoyed his too. With a very enjoyable bottle of wine the bill came to £71. Worth every penny! We will return.......

We had an overnight pit stop here halfway back from a Cornish trip. The reviews on this site are broadly correct - it's a handsome old hunting lodge in a beautiful location. The rooms are of a very high standard, with excellent beds and bed linen. What was strange was that the heating didn't come on until 6pm (we checked in at 3 pm) so we rather froze until we asked reception for a fan heater. And it was odd there was no radiator or heated towel rail in the bathroom, so that was a chilly experience. The food served at dinner was spectacularly good - but the dining room itself needs updating - rather harsh lighting, chipped purple paint round the edges, and very basic tables and chairs. But the food made up for this! We would stay again.

But, paying £22, for a steak and only getting 12 chips and nothing else, seemed a little expensive. If there were mushrooms, tomatoes onion rings or something else, it wouldn’t have been too bad. But the 12 small chips looked embarrassing. I asked for a few more chips, just to fill the plate, and I up a little more. Which the young waitress kindly obliged. However, on receiving the bill, I was charged for the extra chips. Now, I don’t mind paying anything (if I think it’s worth it) but I felt slightly aggrieved!! At the bar, the manager came over to take payment, so I told him that I wasn’t too pleased, about being charged for the chips, as I had so few originally. He just brushed it off, no apology, and to be honest, was very rude saying that I’d ordered extra chips and that I had to pay for them. I’m not one to argue. So I paid the total bill, and vowed, never to return. My friend (who hadn’t said anything whilst I was paying) then said to the manager. Aren’t you even going to say sorry, or even take note, for future reference. And the manager, just rolled his eyes at him and shock his head at him. If this is the way they treat customers, then I won’t be going back!!!!

We have been up this way staying for a week and on the first evening of our holiday we went out to eat and ‘The Dev’ was recommended. There were 10 of us and from beginning to end the atmosphere, the venue and the service was both friendly, professional and welcoming. There is a nice outdoor area with a well kept garden seating area and inside the decor is cosy and tasteful.

We booked the Devonshire Arms on the back of many recommendations and were excited for our evening visit, we had booked and arrived to a very warm and friendly welcome, we were offered drinks at the bar or to be taken straight to our table, we chose to be seated and order drinks from there, the pub itself looks very grand from the outside, set in the middle of a pretty village and the interior matched the looks of the exterior.

Went on a Sunday evening. Didn't need to book, I think as we got there early. It did start to fill up later. Lovely surroundings and if there during the day the garden seating looked very inviting. The food was fantastic. Great service as well. Not much choice for vegitarians though.

A great hotel/restaurant for a lunch with an option to eat inside or outside. There was a Sunday lunch menu as well as their regular menu. Service was good but a little on the slow side. The roast beef was very good but a little short on quantity for the price.

Beautiful hotel restaurant overlooking the village green with a restaurant that offers inside dining or the most beautiful outside area in a formal garden with vine arbor. Walk past the courtyard and there it is up some steps. Great service and REALLY good food from a shortish menu

Booked for dinner but on arrival, they thought we had booked for buffet, fortunately they had a table for us within a short time so we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, which is fabulous and then went for a lovely meal in the Bistro, it is a small and intimate restaurant and quite modern and food is served on hot rocks, which you cook yourself to your own taste. Nice concept and food was really lovely BUT find that it gets pretty smoky when it is very busy. This is not a unique concept to us and it was a very nice change. Service was attentive and good and wine selection is great. Little pub at the Langport Arms is friendly and wonderful for pre or post drinks too.

Simply the best Fish and Chip shop around. You can get most of the menu as a gluten free option too. The staff are fantastic too. Thank you everyone for your wonderful service 😍

What a delightful place to stay at. We stayed for a couple of nights to visit the surrounding area and had the friendliest welcome and comfortable stay. James, the waiter in the evening, was a credit to them. He helped you choose what to eat and was attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the fish dishes. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and was cooked to order with local produce. Cannot wait to return.

The chip shop has been closed for a while due to staff going on holiday. Last night we very much enjoyed our chips, chicken and curry sauce.
