Fantastically presented modern traditional English Pub. The owner is very welcoming as is the very chatty French bar tender. If it's on and you appreciate real ale try Conqueror Black IPA (Windsir & Eton brewery) its superb. I'll be coming back for sure

I visited the Devereux last night with some friends for the pub quiz, it was great! Fantastic variety of drinks. Was especially impressed with the snacks on offer - taytos, toasties and curly wurlys - perfect pub snacks. Would highly recommend visiting on a Monday night for the quiz, really fun atmosphere and some tough questions too.

This is an excellent pub, recently re-opened on the boudary between the City and the West End near Aldwych and well worth seeking out. Good range of Adnams and Fullers ales at reasonable prices as well as other beers etc. Friendly staff. Board games available and great quiz early on a Monday evening. Mind the low ceiling on the stairs down to the loo.

This character pub can be found down a quaint alley off the Strand on the opposite side of the road to the Royal Courts of Justice. It is well frequented by the legal community, being in the heart of Temple. Food is excellent quality pub food at a reasonable price and even though we arrived as a large group (pre-booked) the staff served us quickly, efficiently and in a very friendly way. Would highly recommend this charming pub.

The Devereux is one of a clutch of pubs just outside Middle Temple and south of The Strand. As such it is fairly heavily used by the legal profession.I had attended a talk at the LSE and was looking for a fairly simple meal, with enough light to be able to read. I last had a drink here some time ago, but tried The Devereux principally because the other two pubs nearby seemed very full.I had a good pint of Greene King IPA as a warmer into the bank, turning to a perfectly acceptable house red when my chicken pie arrived. That was good, with more meat in it than many pies. While I like my vegetables on the less cooked side, the carrots were a little underdone. My pudding was good. The service was extremely attentive. The bill was reasonable, which left me puzzled as to why the pub wasn't as busy as its neighbours.

Stumbled across this little pub yesterday, the kids were hungry and wanted to get out of the rain so we popped in for a bite to eat, pub was pretty busy considering how small it was, we were greeted with a very warm welcome by two friendly staff members and assisted with the menus, pub was nice and warm and spotlessly clean. We were served by a petit lady around mid twenties and a gentleman around the same age both were very knowledgeable about the menus and food was really good, the gentleman even gave our two kids a free glass of blackcurrant juice before we left a nice touch to a good day, will definitely be returning when in the area.

We decided to use the Devereux as the starting point for a mini pub crawl. Perhaps we should have chosen The Edgar Wallace around the corner instead? But the since the Devereux features in the current CAMRA Good Beer Guide and we'd never been in there before, it was mainly an exercise in "box ticking". A range of four fairly unimaginative real ales were on offer, so we chose a pint each of Taylor Walker 1730 and Truman's Runner for which we were charged an eye watering £8.90! To make matters worse, the quality of the beer was "mediocre". There was nothing special about the pub itself - though it is situated in an interesting and largely hidden part of London devoted to legal profession - perhaps they don't mind paying £4.45 for a pint but I do!

Stopped by for a drink and food on a Saturday evening in this slightly out of the way traditional London pub. Not too busy and didn't have to wait long for the food (which was good) whilst enjoying a good pint of Fuller's London Pride. Much quieter than the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden across the road. Was originally aiming for the Old Bank of England (Fuller's pub) on the Strand which is well worth a visit if only for the interior - plus the London Pride - but is was closed due to a private function, so ended up in the Devereux which turned out fine.

This is a historical, ancient pub , in a historical building from the 1700s. Sir Isaac Newton (the falling apple) and Dr Halley (the comet) both had a few pints here. Interesting location on a side street of a side street, in one of the oldest parts of town. We shared a fish & chips platter and had a couple of pints (local bitter, of course). Quite enjoyable, surrounded by a bunch of British lawyers who work in the court house and law firms in the neighborhood and were relaxing at the end of their working day.

Terrible pub. We visited this pub on a Wednesday afternoon and although I would not have expected it to be busy it was in fact empty. We should have seen this as a sign and left, but we didn't. We ordered drinks from a barman who lacked customer service and bar skills. He poured two pints of Peroni far below the pint line. When we asked him to top them up, he explained that the line is where the froth should go to, not the lager itself. I've never heard this before about Peroni but even if that is the case (which I don't think it is) he should have just topped them up rather than argue his point. We should have left at this point but we stayed to drink our "not quite" pints. The lack of atmosphere was made worse by having to listen to the staff make rude comments about the one other customer that came in whilst we were there. We finally left without finishing our drinks.

We had a meal for 3. We waited an hour for our food despite no one being in. When it did come it was obscene- stringy grey meat, stone cold chips and no veg. We only went here as we were very hungry, so weren't expecting anything special, but this was the worst food I have ever tasted. In addition, the beer was full of pipe cleaner and the place was overpriced. The staff were rude, miserable and indifferent, which unsurprising given the dump they were having to work in. It is a real shame that this well located and nice looking pub is so bad. Do not waste your time or money. Try one of the many wonderful pubs in the area.

I happened to be invited for a meeting at The Devereux last month..There was a meeting among friends, just about 20!I had some issues with finding the place because it's quite hidden on a narrow street adjacent Essex Street but the effort was worth. However, if you know the place, the bad is easy accessible.I found a clean, uncrowded but still lively bar, with a range of beers and ales and a good selection of what we call ''pub food''. If nothing on the menu meets you taste, you can even order something else! The pub might not be suited for families or romance but it is really good for a night out with friends. On the 1st floor there's a meeting room, mainly used for private parties. It has its own bar, tables, chairs, it is spacious and looks good to me.

Henry’s closed about a month ago as the tenants, Stonegate pub co, decided to let it go due to a rent hike by the owners. I’ve submitted this to Google but they haven’t amended this to closed yet - so I’m writing this review to try save people from getting there expecting it to be open as I witnessed recently. There is a planning application on the front door for its next usage - see photo.
