We popped into the Deli for a light lunch and coffee. We ordered coffees and 2 Bacon , Brie and Cranberry on toasted breadcakes. There was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive. The food looked nice and came with a side salad, but as soon as the waitress put the plate in front of my husband there was a strong smell of disinfectant or bleach, which he discovered was coming from one of the breadcakes. We alerted the waitress to this discovery and she sent the manager to our table. The manager refused to actually smell the breadcake and instead offered to repeat the order. We can only assume that the contamination came from the food preparation area. We accepted the offer and had no complaints about the repeat food. Staff friendly and helpful. Tables felt sticky

Cute Swiss Chalet style deli/ restaurant. We ordered breakfasts as we were too early for the lunch service which begins at 12. All the staff were super friendly and accommodating of us and our baby. The food was delicious and everyone else's looked lovely too. It was clearly busy but everything we ordered arrived quickly and hot. My only regret is that we didn't get to sample the delicious lunch menu!

Clearly the place would prefer customers who order meals and not just drinks, wish we had known this at the time,we saw a sign that said wait here to be seated which we did,we explained to the young lady we just wanted coffee and was shown to a table for 4 at the back of the cafe, half way through our coffee the same girl came back to us and asked us if we could move to a table for 2 at the front of the cafe as there were 4 people wanting a table? We moved to the front carrying our coffee and found the table she wanted us to sit at,sat down drank the rest of our coffee and watched for the other people that were supposed to be wanting a table for 4,who were nowhere to be seen! So the moral of the story is unless you want food your not welcome,so don't bother! We certainly won't be going again!

Couldn't believe the price for four cheese scones came to £8, It wouldn't have mattered if there had been extra cheese in but they had the smallest amount inside. Feel ripped off, very disappointed.

Had a delightful brunch at the deli. Some really nice alternatives to the usual cooked breakfast. I had the Swiss breakfast which was amazing. Our daughters had the breakfast wrap and the breakfast stack which were both demolished! Staff were really friendly. Before we left Malton we popped back to get some cakes for tea which were equally as delicious as our brunch. An absolute must go if you are staying in the area.

Nice staff and scone but possibly the worst take out coffee I have ever had (and I get a lot)! Unfortunately the latte was just a weak coffee with what tasted like powdered milk? Maybe an off day, but if not please match the coffee to your lovely welcoming smile and nice surroundings.

Stumbled across this delightful by complete accident and we were initially excited as the decor is beautiful. I came with my mam and 1 year old daughter who needed changing almost as soon as we arrived. Horrified to find out their changing facilities were a changing May which I had to lay down on the bathroom floor? Luckily nobody else came in while we were changing otherwise they would have had to of literally stepped over her to get to a toilet. Had she of been newborn I would have probably left there and then. We had the Canadian breakfast which, for £10 was not great, consisting of 3 shop bought American pancakes, 2 rashers of bacon, some scrambled eggs and a tiny drizzle of surup. £7 for one slice of shop bought white toast and 2 dried eggs for my daughter, insane. No child friendly cutlery or plates to suit her needs so I’m thankful I had brought my own. Though they had a highchair I don’t think this qualifies being child friendly based on everything else we went though. Won’t be going back, real shame as it had such potential but it’s all style and no substance unfortunately.

Staff very polite and helpful couldn’t fault them. Decent menu and plenty of specials. We had jacket tatty with tuna, tuna baguette, trio of pate platter and a three cheese platter. All lovely the two platter could have fed at least 3 people. Fantastic value for money. Need to lay down now!! If you are on Malton and hungry this is the place to go.

The Deli of Malton is a small shop in the market square of this delightful North Yorkshire market town. Mrs Wanderer and I arrived about 11am and decided to pop into the deli for a quick coffee. We were seated in one of the two 4-seater tables in the window and we ordered two Americanos with some milk on the side. They were reasonably quick in coming although a little disappointing. The coffee tasted to me like it was filter coffee although my wife assured me that it had been made on a traditional espresso machine. The coffee arrived in 5-inch tall white ceramic mugs presented on a similar saucer but without teaspoons. I approached the counter to see if there were any . There was a small cutlery tray to the right containing knives and forks but no spoons. I asked the young waitress for two. She seemed a little surprised that I needed them (perhaps we were expected to stir the drinks with our fingers) but gave them to me none-the-less. No apology though for not bringing them with the coffees in the first place. The mugs in my view are far to big for the job in hand. A smaller nicely rounded coffee cup would be so much more appealing and not hold so much coffee that we had to leave some. My wife's mug had a dried on dribble of coffee down the length of one side and the saucer of mine was chipped on the edge. A bit more care in making the coffee wouldn't go amiss so that it doesn't spill down the side. For god's sake retire any broken or chipped crockery! The milk arrived in a small ceramic cup, not a jug. The problem here is that without a spout milk goes everywhere, and in our case over the tablecloth. I'm sure the deli is very popular on market days, and there is a larger restaurant area towards the back of the store to cater for more people. Not having tried the food offerings I can't comment on that but I'm not sure we'll pay a return visit to find out.

Always a warm and friendly welcome with excellent service means the Deli is very popular. Luckily they have tastefully converted what was the rear storeroom by previous owners into a lovely French style seating area with an extract fan in the roof. Always a pleasant temperature and I especially like the extract fan as this will take away anybody's cold germs, especially important as I have COPD, don't want a lung infection, and a lot of cafes without extract fans are germ breeders.

Toasted cheese sandwiches with gherkins, bacon and pickles: surprisingly Alpine for North Yorkshire, but utterly delicious none the less!

I came in here for a late breakfast and I was not disappointed. The food was good, well cooked and well presented and was a good price.

Me and my fiancé had breakfast here on 21st of December, we happened to stumble across The deli after a detour from the motorway, the deli was clean and tidy, the staff were all friendly and attentive, and the food was good and arrived in good time, eggs were a little underdone for my personal tasted however I used the yoke to dip my toast in! Definitely worth a visit as it’s a gem in the middle of Yorkshire!

The smell was a bit strange, the paper on the tables somewhat greasy and the staff was either very over the top or a bit rude. But not in a sense that it gets really bad. The onion soup was greasy but delicious, the toast on top a little burnt. The fries were really really good.

A friend and I chose this deli for a cup of tea and a piece of cake as it was close to where we’d parked the car. It looked very appealing from the outside with its red gingham table cloths. The cake was quite dry and I suspect it had been on display for some time and the tablecloth was very stained. There’s so many eating places to choose from in Malton, I’m sure I’d return to this one.

We enjoyed our lunch here. We had the sandwich and mug of soup combo and were not disappointed. The soup is homemade and the sandwiches prepared from the deli with a very tasty side salad. Worth the wait for freshly prepared food. The coffee was good too. Both the regular and decaffeinated

I have eaten here several times now and the food has been excellent each time. There is a good choice on the menu, and it is very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and very helpful. There is nothing at all to complain about!

Popped in for a breakfast ... absolutely smashing . American pancakes with crispy bacon were delicious and scrambled eggs lightweight . Hubbies full breakfast was hearty and rosti was particularly good. Wish we had been in the area longer to try their lunches.

We were wandering around Malton looking for somewhere to enjoy a spot of lunch and stumbled across the Spotted Cow, which is right next to the old cattle market pens. We decided to give it a try and we’re so pleased we did. It’s an amazing 16th century building with oak beams and looks very original and unspoilt. We ordered the “Fish and Chips” which were excellent. Crispy batter on the fish and chips cooked thoroughly unlike some places who tend to under cook them, with a side of mushy peas. The prices are very reasonable and it’s good value for money. The owners are new and have only been at the helm for 3 weeks. If they regularly serve up lovely food like this, they’ll do well and we hope it works out for them. On our positive experience today, we’d highly recommended trying the Spotted Cow and don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Ordered the Brie & Bacon and cranberry Sandwich, it was missing the Cranberry so may have been the most tasteless thing I’ve ever ate. Ordered a pudding, the crumble, came with about a shot size of custard. This is the same for the Inn Collection Kings head, thinking it’s a recurring theme to avoid these pubs ! ☹️

Visited with family. There’s a really nice feel to the place. We arrived early for dinner and spent some time in the bar (with wood burner) then ate went in the dining room which has a lovely view of the valley. We chose snacks and starters, as the menu looked so good. Snacks were gougeres (perfect), an aranicino with nduja mayo (freshly made) and Yorkshire Rarebit, this being enormous. We had two starters - monkfish “scampi” and a magnificent and imaginative venison faggot dish. Our mains were: chicken burger and fries for our daughter; Toulouse sausages with puy lentils and celeriac remoulade; and partridge with cabbage etc. The sausages were spiced with nutmeg etc and tasted light not heavy. For the first time in a very, very long time we were defeated by the portion sizes and couldn’t manage a pudding. I’ve seen a review suggesting the portions were on the small side - all I can say is that this absolutely definitely wasn’t the case with us. We loved the food; clearly a chef thinking seasonal and local. Excellent all round and I had to look twice when I got the bill - £113 for 3 or about £37 per head. Unbelievable value for money, particularly for food of this quality.

Christ what a dump. Dingy. Nice if you’re into sky sports. Thought we would try an alternative to the George and dragon and tempted by the beer garden (very nice and with great potential in summer) so tried a pint of bitter. Now I see why everyone was drinking lager. In Yorkshire ffs! One swallow to see how nice it was. Another to see it was really as bad as the first. No 3rd swig. Vinegar. Clueless cellar management. Taste what you’re serving. Wouldn’t put it on chips. The rest went down a convenient geranium pot. Hope it survives. Vile. Not into confrontation so just left and went to the George and dragon for a delicious pint or 2 of theakston’s best. Avoiding the black swan where someone with TB was coughing his guts up in the smoking area. Avoid both would be my shout.
