The Dashwood Hotel and those who run it are a disaster - and it could be so good. Firstly, communication was a disaster when we had to contact them, well in advance of our stay, due to unforeseen circumstances. We were unable to go and knowing that they could have helped by re-opening the booking and finding replacement as the Blenheim Palace Game fair was on that weekend! We found someone to take our place last minute. Remote check in a nightmare and no ph no for contact! Room: no rail in wardrobe and only 2 tea bags and 2 milk pods for a 3 night stay! Lots of little niggley things when it could have been so nice. Unwelcoming

Dashwood Arms - Kirtlington Kirtlington "cold snailwood" 944912546 April 1st no jokes! I was invited to lunch at the Dashwood, Wife son & daughter in law plus 4 year old grandson, a table was booked for 12:30, at around 1340 the food arrived in my case incomplete (all day breakfast arrived with just scrmbled egg no inclusive bacon etc.. + salmon & chorizo extra as I requested) the food for the table arrived in dribs and drabs and was cold. due to the lengthy wait my grandson was starting to playup, we asked for some iced water for him, that didnt arrive. On using the baby change room the toilet paper had run out.. no spares, I informed the guy at the bar, It hadnt been replaced at the time we left, as I used the facility. My son was upset, as his surprise treat hadn't gone as planned and he didnt want me make a scene and ruin the day further. Hence I have provided feedback today 2 April, I would find a bill of £40.00 fair and resonable as 2 out of the 5 meals were unpalatable. For the record the bill came to £90.00, the guy taking payment did as a "by the way" sorry for the delays!! - thats OK then? Its a shame, its a nice place & my son was assured the food there was nice... Will I go there again...extremely unlikely

We had a wonderful lunch at this little treasure of a pub in the English countryside. Lovely owners, dogs welcome, great for cyclist as there is safe parking. We also had a look round the rooms and would definitely recommend a stay here. A little gem not to be missed!

A lovely stay at this premises with my two small dogs. I would have liked it more if breakfast was available to those staying. I would have given 5 stars if there was a breakfast venue but I had to find breakfast elsewhere out of the village but hoping this is going to change soon.

Booked via B******. *** We stayed here one night whilst walking the Oxford Canal What a dissapointment! We arrived at about 1pm only to find the Dashwood Arms closed with a sign saying to use their sister pub, the Oxford Arms just down the road. We walked there. Staff were very pleasant but no one really knew about the Old Barns other than, that The Dashwood was only open for functions. I checked my emails and had recieved an email at 11.53hrs from The Old Barn, giving me a code and details as to access. It told us that there was no breakfast and suggested that we go to another village some 2 miles away - that is a long walk in the wrong direction when you are on a walking holiday! There we no shops in the village where we could buy anything for the morning. We eventually got into our room which was ok but nothing special considering the price. Only body wash, nothing for our hair. We had a poor nights sleep as there was a green light (guessing to do with fire) on all night which was really bright and over the top! The front door was unlocked and ajar. We only had the room door as any form of security between us and the outside I had a further 2 emails asking if we had checked in yet. Each time I tried to reply the email was rejected. Then got an email saying I had not paid, and requested me to pay into their account, a further £135! I contacted B******.*** who confirmed I had previously paid in full and were going to contact The Old Barn. I have heard nothing more from either The Old Barn or B******.*** since. Online, they show the Dashwood pub and it is also shown on the email booking even though the pub was not open to us. This is from the website:- "The Old Barn at The Dashwood Arms features free WiFi and a bar. Set 8.9 km from Blenheim Palace, the property offers a terrace and free private parking. The bed and breakfast comes with a satellite flat-screen TV. Towels and bed linen are featured in the bed and breakfast**Most popular facilities Free parking Free WiFi Non-smoking rooms Family rooms Bar" Completely false representation on line, in our opinion

There is nothing to write in favour of this place. Even the description on Trip Advisor is incorrect as it does not serve food, or drinks, and is purely a bed option with no breakfast. For that, you need to get in your car and travel. The welcome is non-existent as the manager uses a key in a combination box method with no personal greeting. The three rooms we had were all, at best, functional but some essentials were missing such as shower gel and shampoo. It is soulless and basic and definitely not one for a repeat visit for us and our four friends.

We went to the Dashwood Arms for lunch as they had space when called ahead. I had Cajun Chicken Caeser salad which was excellent but enormous. It came with a whole warm chicken breast which was different. My husband had Mezze Platter which he enjoyed sadly the platter took a while to come out of the kitchen which is why the rating is very good rather than excellent. The wait staff were very attentive and helpful.

We visit the Dashwood to meet up with my son and his family just before they moved to Tier 3. We had to change or booking due to the short notice of the new tier system but the Dashwood accommodated us without any problem. We ate outside in a gazebo with heating and a fire pit to keep us warm. We really appreciated this kind gesture. The food was excellent as were the mulled wine and hot chocolate. We felt very Covid secure and have decided to make this pub our future rendezvous with my son and family. Thanks everyone at the Dashwood.

First visit to Kirtlington. Had a wonderful Sunday lunch. The choice of menu was a real surprise. Alongside traditional Sunday roast there were a few exciting alternatives. The wife had a roast there was never any danger of her sharing although she struggled to finish it. The fish was a nice choice. Light and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and really could not do enough for us. The landlord made us all feel very welcome. We will be going back very soon.

We stumbled across this lovely village pub by accident and liked the look of it from the outside. With it’s beautiful thatch and gorgeous little windows we decided to stop for lunch whilst on route to Devon. “Yes we got lost and took a wrong turn but so glad we did”. We we’re greeted by friendly staff from the onset and although we hadn’t booked lunch (Covid restrictions) it was absolutely no trouble at all. The menu caters for everyone with a great selection of lite lunches to main courses and super tasty deserts so you can choose to indulge with larger portions if you wish and it’s very reasonably priced too. The open plan kitchen was a delight, to see the chef’s at work gave me confidence in ordering food without hesitation (again the pandemic scaring everyone). My husband says it’s the best chicken liver pate he’s ever tried and I highly recommend the fish cakes they were just delicious too as were the halloumi fries with sweet chilli dip they are awesomely tasty. All and all a lovely friendly welcoming experience with super tasty food surrounded in wonderful interior designs features you’ll feel right at home. Give the Dashwood Arms a visit you will not be disappointed at all

The whole family went to the Dashwood for Sunday lunch. We all had starters the Squid is particularly delicious, a family favourite every visit. The roast dinner is absolutely amazing, I always have the roast beef it’s so tender. Beautiful crispy roast potatoes, huge Yorkshire pudding and vegetables all topped off with lots of rich gravy and no washing up! The food quality is excellent. Scott and all his staff are very welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxing and friendly. All social distancing is adhered to with hand sanitiser at every turn. Last week I called into the Dashwood for a quick drink with my wife, I was presented with a pint of Moretti with an extremely large head. I politely asked for a top up only to be scowled at and told it was an oversized glass. I’ve drunk enough beer over the years to know an oversized glass when I see one. Can’t understand why the gentleman concerned, who I think was the boss, chose to be rude and dishonest rather than just filling the pint up.

We had been to the Dashwood Arms before and really liked it so were looking forward to returning. Booking on-line was what we expected, but didn't get any conformation so had to email them to check. Then got a phone call asking if we wanted to eat (which we did). I understand that things are not as slick as you would expect while the 'new normal' settles down. We arrived, queued to get in and were a bit surprised that orders were being taken at the bar, but accepted it. When they suggested a table outside we weren't so happy and when told that the kitchen closes in 30 minutes I did wonder why they didn't mention that on the 'phone. The menu is reduced at present (which we expect) but the service also seems less efficient than it was in the past - which as a disappointment. Would we go back? Maybe - but other pubs in the area seem to manage the situation more effectively.

We booked for an early dinner for 2. It's a small restaurant area. The specials were on the board and we decided on Ham Hock croquettes with piccalilly which we shared. It was a generous portion and definitely enough for 2 people. I would recommend this. My husband had the Buttered chicken with sweet corn chowder which he enjoyed which meant that it was recommended. I chose the squid, lobster and chorizo linguine, mains special on the board. I found the portion too large for me which I am sure is a generous portion to another person. I did notice that there were no pieces of lobster but plenty of chorizo pieces. I worked out the chef meant the dish was cooked in lobster paste which probably was the bits from the lobster bisque which was the specials starter on the board. The dish certainly tasted strongly of lobster. Just be aware when you order this dish not go looking for pieces of lobster because I only found a teaspoon. On the desserts front, the chocolate fondant is to die for. I couldn't comment on the date pudding with muscovado caramel. My husband did like it. Overall the service was excellent. We were told that the resident chef was not around and the restaurant had a stand in for the week so it might be that the choice on the menu and the taste was more specific to how this chef cooked the food. I am not sure that we would be back there in a hurry. It did get noisy with screaming kids whilst we were eating. But I would say that it was no fault of the restaurant but that of the parents. I even sympathized with the owner of the pub as she could not tell parents to control their screaming kids. I put this down to bad luck on us on the evening we were there. But there again, when a restaurant serves pizza on the menu, I should have guessed this would attract families. Lessons learnt for next time. Never go to a pub restaurant when there is pizza on the menu unless you are prepare to have kids running around.

Super dinner in an atmospheric part of the restaurant. I had lobster bisque that was perfect; slightly creamy and not too salty. My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend for the British F1 GP. Like everywhere this meant paying substantially more than usual for our room. Given everybody does it though it would be unfair to let that fact influence my review. Our room was on the upper floor in the separate barn. Unfortunately due to the exceptional summer we had it was like an oven which made sleeping difficult as there is no air-conditioning in the rooms. A fan was provided and we had fetched our own, however this provided only limited relief. The room itself was comfortable, however the bathroom had seen better days with peeling paint and a few patches of black silicone around the shower.

We called in, pretty much at random, for lunch while on our way to Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire. My wife and I shared a burger and a chicken/bacon wrap, which were excellent. Nice beer, too! Sunday lunch looks good, will certainly be back.

Stayed overnight before a visit to Bicester Village. Friendly reception on arrival, shown to my room which I loved, with tea and coffee, a fan, iron and ironing board.

My daughter and I popped in here today for a quick bite at lunchtime. They don't do sandwiches so we both chose from their salad selection. The salad came fairly soon and had been well prepared and looked attractive. We both had a soft drink with the meal and a coffee afterwards. We were both struck by the decor of the pub, we both thought how attractive and comfortable it is. My daughter lives in Kirtlington and is looking forward to the Steak and frites on evening.

Charming pub, very good food and well run - you can see the chefs cooking, always a good sign of confidence in their skills, I would certainly go again.

I have recently moved to kirtlington for my annual 6 month visit. The dashwood did not disappoint yet again. I have found the only pub in Kirtlington worth visiting. The service is amazing as is the food. I recently experienced the lobster which was to die for. Coming from a costal area and enjoying seafood on a regular basis it is safe to say this lobster was one of the best seafood dishes I have ever had. I must say if you are looking for exceptional customer service skills and great amazing food you cannot go past The Dashwood. Scott and his team know exactly how to keep their clients happy!

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime at 2pm. (Website states food served until 4pm.) There was no function going on and it seemed fairly quiet, however although the kitchen was open, we were informed that food was no longer being served! I would add that this is the second time that this has happened to us. Might I suggest that The Dashwood states on their website that “the kitchen might shut at various times if it feels like it.” This way your customers won’t waste their time.

Stayed here for business for two nights. Nice rooms, good parking, great staff. A little short on space for evening meals, not through being busy, although it was, but the room was a little small.

a very special evening for a group of us having been on the canal for a week. I called and Scott the manager was able to seat us all (9 of us from a narrow boat holiday on the canal) in a separate section of the restaurant and had made a special effort to arrange the table as requested. The service and the food was excellent, it was like having our own special dining room and staff, this evening we all agreed was the highlight of our week away. Thanks again, Pat.

A great pub with one of the best burgers we’ve ever had! Stopped by twice within a short trip to the countryside.

Despite the opening hours quoted, and displayed at the pub, it was closed Thursday lunchtime. No idea what the actual hours are?

My husband, daughter and I were visiting friends for a week in Shipston and this place became our second home. The building is really lovely- traditional and with a very pretty bar which is really cozy... perfect for dogs, kids and anyone wanting a good chat and a great pint (fab selection of ales and lagers). We loved the sofa in the corner for playing cards. I imagine it's super lovely when the fire is lit in winter. It's the garden that we loved most though.. there's a natural wig wam tree thing with kids stuff in so perfect for little ones. Lots of tables with an uninterrupted view of the rolling hills. They don't 'do' food but have a wood fired pizza oven that comes once every month and it was amazing! I think they have a similar thing with local fish and chips too. We were also there on 'sharing night' when the locals all bring in stuff like cheese and home made bread to share on the bar. All in all, this was a fantastic pub with great staff, a beautiful garden and a really charming, cozy bar. We will be back!
