Last minute Sunday roast booking, exceptional from start to finish. Couldn’t fault the service; Jim and team were really attentive, welcoming and down to earth. Food was unreal - flavoursome, fresh and tender - best roast we have had for sure!

Went to the Dark Horse on New Year Eve. The free access reggae night was actually lit. The hypeman was on bars. Drinks in the corner for people who want to grab some. The open floor made it a total club experience, you just had to dance. There was a sofa in a corner if you need to catch your breath or get on your phone for a bit. Stayed for a few hours. Definitely a worthy crossover experience.

An old favourite but really like the ambience now, not so busy when we were there which was great for fast service with a smile. Menu looks good though untried. Worth a visit.

Week days in winter not serving food until after 5pm despite being open from around lunch time with staff present the in kitchen. If you want something other than just drinks come after 5m

Made this place a staple drinking place the last year and a bit, plenty of craft to choose from. Staff always happy to give you a sample before you buy. Door staff always welcoming and a friendly good bye. For a mostly craft beer pub the Guinness is great too. Best pub in the area hands down.

Fantastic venue for an intimate gig. Great ambience and unparalleled drinks selection. Even had a good selection of craft beer on tap.

Upstairs venue is where the real soul of this place is, the upstairs staff are lush and the promotors who put gigs on are fantastic and go above and beyond. It's a shame the money is spent downstairs on things like posh sinks when the upstairs female toilets don't lock. If you visit here, support the upstairs venue and not the money grabbing fat cats downstairs.

Fantastic bar and grill type pub! I recommend the Banh Mi BBQ chicken sandwich with seasonal fries, it’s a tasty Vietnamese sandwich, burns your mouth off but it’s so tasty! Great selection of craft beers on tap too for the beer enthusiasts, and great friendly service.

Hmmmm, pretentious random beer selection (not the staff’s fault, they were great) and door staff that smoke more than the punters. Better than it used to be but still a bit circumspect

Decent setting and crowd - good vibe. But, with like most pubs and bars across the land, toilets were a mess.

Second visit... Had the chicken burgers, wings and fries. As well as some craft beers, of which there is a good selection .Good flavoured chicken burger, crispy flavoured wings and skin on fries. All well cooked and will visit again.

Great place to come to not only for a drink but also for bottomless brunch. This is my go to place any time I’m in Moseley! Always new beers to try and lovely staff!

It's good to be able to sit outside and play guitar, but otherwise there doesn't seem to be a vibe here anymore. The beer was nice, but very expensive and the bar person who served me either didn't know anything about the beers, or didn't want to engage with me (it was early and not busy). So it's impossible to know what you're ordering and the place is in disrepair now and sticky. The toilet seat was hanging off too. I guess its a restaurant now, but it's difficult to imagine eating somewhere when the bar isn't clean. It used to be amazing, now it's just tired and dilapidated...

Great burger 2 for 1 Thursdays with changes made for allergies. No beef burgers though but lots of stuff I'd come back and try. Good atmosphere.

We had only drinks but the entire bar staff was excellent and the Manager was so helpful.The best place to enjoy the night .

The Dark Horse is a busy, bustling bar which unlike many bars in Moseley attracts a very wide demographic; there's what's surely one of the best rotating craft beer lineups in the country alongside wine, a big selection of spirits and cocktails. The staff are really friendly, too. Young, old and in-between: everyone gets treated like a regular. It's always busy at the minute; last night every bar in Moseley was deserted, meanwhile here every single table is taken with large crowds listening to live music upstairs and chatting on the terrace. Felt like a Friday night back in the Moseley '17 heyday - on a Wednesday night! Apparently there's lots on in the upstairs but didn't want to bother the staff when it was this busy, though think there was a calendar by the door? The food is courtesy of the class Brúm Mì who make Vietnamese and East Asian influenced street food. The burgers and bowls are great, but their signature bánh mìs are phenomenal and are well worth trying. A fantastic bar that's well worth visiting.

Absolutely love this place! Fabulous beer, great food and brilliant service. Similar vibe to Donovan's in Queens - in fact one of the bar staff in the DH reminds me of a guy that served me last time I was in New York. Like Donovan's, arrive as a stranger leave as a friend......

Quite expensive place, £10 to get to see a band in a pokey little upstairs room, not great!

Wouldn't honour the cocktail deal advertised because they'd forgotten to remove it, poor attitude from the arrogant management and staff.

Just had a try at the summer sunday menu the bbq steak with tenderstem brocoli with a side of crispy baby potatoes was amazing 10/10 and got a pork belly bahmi to take away yes im a phat phook but it is also 10/10 as sandwich goes probably the best I have eaten

Great pub, selling tasty craft beers downstairs and a lively dancefloor upstairs, with often free or cheap nights. Went to a great garage/jungle night for free and still buzzing from it!!

Been on my radar to try Brum mi since their A-board appeared on the pavement. Haven’t been inside /reviewed here since pre-Covid. Atmosphere hasn’t changed a whole lot, service was good. The toilet is so pretty…photo-worthy! Food was tasty but the rice bowl was not very generous (-1*) and didn’t stay hot for very long as the place felt cold (-1*) like the heating was off. Do recommend trying, but maybe in the summer when temps are warmer and hopefully they’re still operating then.

Went there to try out Brum Mi and the food was very tasty. Loved the hearty portion size and the high quality ingredients. Both the pork and the beef were succulent and even the pickled veggies were nom. We were also pleasantly surprised by the cauliflower bites coated in a sticky sweet sauce. As a die hard salt and pepper tofu lover, these cauliflower bites would give the beloved tofu a run for its money. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The only downside was that we were driving so couldn’t sample the broad selection of beer there. We definitely would be returning and look forward to having a couple of pints alongside.

Moseley has a fair number of good eateries but we'd never tried the Dark Horse before but decided to give it a try for Sunday lunch. By the way, a great range of beers and my Vietnamese style pale ale 'Brum Mi' was just the ticket. We went for just the mains and although I'm normally against plated Sunday dinners this proved an exception. Succulent pork with subtle oriental flavours, charred vegetables , a giant yorkie and crispy roasties were spot on with an ample extra side order of Vietnamese style cauliflower cheese. The only fault was perhaps the gravy could have been thicker but an excellent meal all told. Service at both the bar and the table was very friendly and efficient.

Sunday roast (vegetarian) I must say that this vegetarian Sunday roast was one of the best ones I’ve ever had, and I had many. Portions are more than enough. Flavours are amazing and work very well together. Roast potatoes were perfect and cooked so well. Staff were very nice and helpful as well. Would definitely recommend.

The service was great, friendly and perfect. Food did take long but thats what you get with quality food. I had the porchetta sunday roast and cauli bites and it was amazing.

I've been here at lunchtime 3 times with my husband and friends and had a great experience each time. The Sunday roast dinner (we had pork) is delicious and I'm hard pushed to think of a better one I've had in a restaurant. On the most recent occasion we had their street food menu - the fried chicken bahn mi, chicken wings and spiced fries were all clean-the-plate delicious. The service is also really good - on our recent visit the servers were really friendly and sorted out some hot water for the table so I could heat my baby's food no problem. They were especially kind as my husband realised he had ordered chicken wings with mayo on by mistake when he is intolerant to egg. It was our fault for not checking if the mayo was on top when we ordered, but the staff were super helpful and more than happy to replace them without mayo. Overall highly recommended! P.s. I'm a bit confused as to why Tripadvisor categorises this restaurant as barbecue, as as far as I'm aware all the menus are primarily Vietnamese inspired food.

Sunday roast is back on the menu and it is well worth trying especially as it isn't too busy at the moment. For the meat eaters there was chicken, pork and beef all of which we tried and were excellent. Veggies were served separately and there are some choices so these can be shared between your table. There is a desert of the day and also a number of items can be ordered from the usual lunch menu if preferred. Obviously there are lots of interesting drink choices to wash it all down. Surroundings are very relaxed and service deserves a mention as staff are friendly, knowledgeable and eager to please.

Unlike many other venues in Birmingham and especially Moseley, the ladies toilets are pristine.

Sat in the air conditioning on a very hot day for 2 and a half hours, drinking coffee and soda water (driving home after the cricket) Staff were lovely, no sense of being hurried out. Really appreciated it.

Great venue, really good for bands and a lot of decent beers

Visited for a Friday pre cricket tea as part of a family reunion weekend. Although we ate in more expensive places the next 2 days all 7 of us agreed that this was the best food of the weekend. The spicy chicken and fries bowl simply superb. A magnificent range of beers and great service . Very pleasant sitting in the partially covered outside terrace . Can’t recommend highly enough .

Open mic nights. Sunny evenings outside. When the band upstairs belongs to be heard by everyone. You go to the dark horse and you'll find something you've been looking for. Something that might not have a name yet.Wednesdays for the open mic nights. The food pop ups have made it the best bar in the city.

FYI Only Barman advised that kitchen closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Place seemed nice but didn’t stay. He did suggest that I was welcome to bring in food from elsewhere

Nice pub on the main stretch in Moseley, good vibe and has outside seating too which is good for summer.

Good for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Friendly staff, plenty of bear/ale choices.

Tried the rice with fried chicken and slaw which was quite nice. Reasonably priced prosecco. Thought some of the beers were a little pricey.

Went here to see James Walsh from Starsailor, supported by Chloe Lorentzen, both of whom played brilliant sets in the comfortable, intimate music venue above the rest of the premises. The staff were professional, the room had reasonable acoustics and the beer was of a decent standard. Sound engineer did a solid job, too! Highly recommended.

Great little upstairs room for small capacity gig, although it's L shaped so restricted view at back, enthusiastic crowd for James Walsh, great atmosphere! Unfortunately the pub felt run down and dirty, particularly the loos. Drinks were not great, had 2 decidedly iffy pints and a nasty G&T the tonic was flat and didn't get finished. Ended up having a drink down the road at The Village which was very much nicer, went back for the headliner, didn't order another drink. If your going to a gig here, maybe stay in city centre longer (only £8 in a taxi) there are far nicer places to eat and drink! The bar staff were all pretty decent though!

Nice quirky pub, very good selection of craft beers and ales. Didn't eat but menu looked good.

Went there for a gig in the music venue situated upstairs. Great cover band and decent prices at venue. My only gripe is that the event tickets stated that doors open at 7pm with band starting at 8pm. However doors actually opened at 8pm and all the flyers inside the venue gave a start time of 9.30pm.

Nice place, friendly staff, music a bit of a Mish mash, drum and bass then some kind of funky stuff, then soul bass was so high couldn't always tell what was playing. Does serve food in the day but not nights and it's table service
