The Shireland in Birmingham

I have to leave a review for this pub as it’s our regular, honestly one of the best pubs I’ve been to… The service is 10/10 and the atmosphere is incredible, all staff are friendly and Sam is very attentive and makes sure you’re well catered for. I’d highly recommend the Shireland and would also say it’s suitable for families and any occasion. Thanks again x

Was greeted as soon as I walked into the establishment and shown where to go for my food collection. The price was fair and competitive with other similar places. Proper Punjabi food. I ordered Bakra and rice. It wasn’t too spicy and it tasted great. I’ve just moved to the area so I will definitely be coming again!

Food was fresh and worth waiting for. Will definitely come back again, comes highly recommended.

Tried this place last night. Proper Punjabi/Desi food that was delicious, good portions, fast and friendly service. Great pint of Guinness or two to wash it down. Will be making this my regular. Don't take my word for it, give it a go, you will not be disappointed.

Bar staff and owner are top lads. Food is really good.

Awful place. EDIT: Apparently I am 'fake' & have never been to this pub. Here's a photo I took as I left the dump - so at the very least the reader knows the proprietor is a liar.

A good clean place to have proper desi grub and a good set of beers/spirits around Smethwick. Live football with multiple screens and ample parking available Lot of seating options for small and large group of people I have had my best curries from this place.

Staff and punters are really greeting. Food is great and the veg in my curry was really fresh. Great variety of premium beer and prices are good. Great sports bar and loads of screens. Walk in before making any judgements, would recommend.

I loved this place. Terrific curries (I had the chicken tikka masala, my brother in law a lamb rogan josh). We both agreed it was the best curry we'd had in a very long time, and I've been to some fancy and famous high price places. This was so reasonably priced and beat those other ones hands down. Oh and the crispy wings are to die for! The staff were brilliant too, so friendly. And I liked the way you're eating in a relaxed pub atmosphere, no fancy frills, just sheer quality and great value. Go there if you can, you won't regret it.

Just ate here with my brother-in-law. We both agreed the food was up there with the best curries we've ever had. Simple, no nonsense presentation, friendly staff, stonkingly good food. Wish this place was closer to my home. I'd be here all the time.

We have visited 1st at this place for quick drink and some food after long day at work, food was sizzling served but was not to made for Punjabis, less salt and spices In every bit on the shirelend grill, however person who served was lovely man and he said when you come next time speek to me and I will make the way you want otherwise all good.

First of all I came from all the way from London to try the mix grill. I have to to say it was 10 out of 10. The customer service was amazing the food was on point I cannot fault it. My freinds recommended this place and they were right it was well worth the money and travel. Any one who doesn't live in Birmingham all I got to say this was the best mix grill in Birmingham!. I cant wait to go back , feeling hungry just thinking about it.👍

First gathering with colleagues for over 15 months, dined underneath a shelter in the rear yard which although cold temperature, biting wind and hail was compensated for by excellent service and delicious food by the team at the Shireland. This was my first visit on recommendation of our colleague Ranjit and we were not disappointed. Starting with the Shirelands mixed grill and fish pakoras between the 5 of us as a starter, then moving onto mains of prawn bhuna, chicken korma (quite spicy) lamb rogan josh, plain rice and naan and roti, we all praised the tasty and plentiful food. All staff members who served us were friendly and welcoming. Will certainly be returning.

Have been to this Pub many times! Food and the atmosphere is lovely! A proper pub with a wide selection of drinks and amazing food. I’ve been ordering my weekly takeaway during lockdown, and it’s been just as great. Definitely recommend to anyone who fancies an indian the right way! What can i say ordered food from the Shireland bar and grill and it was what i was looking forward to my mix veg curry and a nice mix grill for my husband and daughter. Loved the garlic naans. Will 100% order again 🔥🍗🥘🔥

Since lockdown started, we were looking for a restaurant to rely for good and tasty delivery. At start we were unsure, but we gave it a go. Delivery gentleman very polite. Food hot, considering the 7 mile travel distance. Food was very tasty, portions were big enough. As an example of the portion, consider that when you buy a Chicken Tika Masala you are searching for chicken pieces, NOT IN THIS PLACE. Enough chicken pieces to fill you up, and great taste. Chicken Tika Masala for once gave you the sense of a dish not a desert (in many places it is so sweet that feels like desert not a dish). WE WERE THAT HAPPY that for sure we will be re-ordering and re-order and re-order.... Tasty food with normal pricing for the portion of food offered. See you again

Easy way to chill and watch the football

Great tasting Punjabi food and freshly cooked so worth the wait. Crispy chicken wings are a great starter as are the mixed grills. Had Keema, Lamb balti and Prawn curry all as good as home cooked. Naans were properly cooked in a tandoor delicious and not soggy. Great friendly staff and service and worth the money.

Extremely good food. No need to go to any other Indian restaurant that thinks it's posh! This beats it hands down!

Ordered food for me and my children. I have a regular curry house closer that i could have chose but the wait time was an hour. So i looked for something that could deliver quicker. Delivery time was marked as 30/40minutes. TWO HOURS LATER the food arrives. Some of it isn’t even warm let alone hot! I made numerous calls to the pub whilst waiting and was told the food was close by which turned out not to be the case. Very disappointed

Fantastic food and service as ever.little bit of a wait but only because it's cooked fresh to order. Mixed grill starter consistanty a winner well worth going out your way to try but bring a jumper we find it a bit cold in the seating areas.

Nice pub a bit out the way but nice

Went with a few work colleagues Friday night and ordered the chicken tikka and paneer curries with the garlic, cheese and keema naans. The food all came under 35pounds and we couldn’t even finish all the food haha. Large quantity portions and delicious Indian food, absolutely recommend!

Great place great staff must try it

This pub is a very cosy environment. At my table, I had a great view from one of the tvs to watch the Liverpool match. The owners were very kind and there was a good waiter who came up to me and asked if I was alright and needed anything else. This pub is a calm and friendly place to go to.

It’s so dark and dirty no heating was going to order but left it when I seen chef overall more oil the walls and all these reviews must be there friends all had 1st reviews

We meet here every xmas. Friendy staff and great food. Has a pool table too and live sports channels

Elegantly decorated very quiet pub.

I visited last night with colleagues and had an excellent evening with the most delicious food. The staff were attentive and accommodating, looking after us throughout. The poppodoms, mixed grills and mains we had were all delicious and we are already talking about when we can come back next. Definitely worth a visit. Perfect with a pink gin!

Its changed ownership again i beleive.. use to be my local .. food has deteriorated a bit. Earlier it had brilliant food. Not impressed with it now.

We visited as a family (2 adults and 2 children) and ordered some drinks and food. My 3-year old son has got ‘autism’ and the owner (he claimed he was) was extremely rude and unprofessional when he came to us and made a huge fuss about my son dropping some chips in the floor and making a mess. I said we are sorry, explained to him about my son’s condition and that children with autism can drop food on the floor, to which his response was ‘having autism doesn’t mean he should drop food on the floor’. We didn’t feel welcome at all and felt humiliated by his behaviour, demeanour, tone and body language. He didn’t even seem to understand even after I explained the situation and we left the place immediately without having any food and not wanting to stay there even one extra minute.

This used to be the best bar and grill pub in the area but since the change of management it is now possibly one of the worst.

The food and service was excellent the staff were very friendly and always checking to ensure that the food was good. It has a good atmosphere with a warm feeling

Top place great food friendly atmosphere

Was greeted by very friendly staff and excellent service. Food was cooked excellently, I really enjoyed it. Will definitely visit frequently.

Me and my workmates went to shireland last night and were very impressed with the food ,we ordered couple of mixed grills and chicken was exellent(slight complaint maybe needed fish pakora on mixed grill) and also 4 curries and naans which i add were excellent,normally we leave some food but all this was eaten!!!,The guy brought food over for us in a friendly manor,beer was exellent(staropramen !!).so if you want great food,a decent pint and friendly atmosphere GO to the shireland,we will certainly go back again, 5 stars all round for the shireland

Good food good drink and you can watch football

From London, visiting B'ham to drop off daughter for the weekend. Decided to explore real B'ham where the real curry can be found. By pot luck, we found this pub and not, when we walked in it was deja vu back to 1960s with a healthy family-originated atmosphere. Friendly staff and ordered curry - boy! That was the BEST we have tasted (even better than top curry houses in London). You couldn't be disappointed. Very good value too. We left praised the staff & chefs as we were blown away how good it was. Ok the streets need cleaning but you won't be disappointed with Shireland. As Arnold said, I'll be back!

Visited here for the first time and will definitely be returning! Food is brilliant including the paneer curry! Drinks are also reasonably priced. Will be telling more people about the shireland and to visit here ASAP!

Visited following a few recommendations and watching The Banter Lounges FB review. Having worked in Smethwick 20 years ago this place is nothing like the old Shireland pub I remember!

Not a bad eatery and sports bar providing mainly food from the Indian sub continent. Reasonably priced though parking can be an issue as in a highly residential area. Get there early for best parking slots.

I have been frequenting this pub to have a drink and watch football. Really thought it was cool,then on Sarturday 10th of March went in as usual and there were only asians in the pub. An old man who is some kind of waiter approached me and asked if I wanted a drink and I said not now. He the said you will have to leave,we dont want your kind here anyway. I then said if its about a drink,I will buy but not right now. Then he called one of his barmen and they manhandled me and pushed me out,and then this guy starts saying I will knock you out, I asked are you seriously going to fight with me because I wasnt ready to buy a drink. I really thought it was nice place but today they proved to me that they are a racist pub,who think that a black man comes to their pub because they dont have Sky or a tele at home. Its probably good for other people but if you are black avoid that place at all cost because they expect you to buy a drink as soon as you sit down and if you are not ready to do that you are out
