The Dancing Dragon in Oxford

The restaurant looks beautiful from the outside and has an inviting interior. Initial impressions were good as it was busy (and had lots of Chinese guests which I took as a sign the food would be good) which was very encouraging on a Tuesday night. The initial drinks service was incredibly slow. I had to request drinks three times as we were well into our starters before they arrived. The servers ranged from unfriendly, to rude and seemed to give certain tables preferential treatment. The weak customer service made it a slightly uncomfortable experience and it was hard work getting more drinks, sauces, the table cleared etc. The food itself (and I eat in a lot of Chinese restaurants) ranged from below average or very poor. The barbecue ribs were fatty and disgusting in a horrible sauce and the crab and sweetcorn soup was scalding hot, bland and contained very little crab or sweetcorn. The rice was clumpy and overcooked and the sweet and sour pork really poor… huge clumps of fatty pork… I actually had to spit some of it out and left most of it. Very disappointing as had high hopes. We will not be returning and will be recommending that friends and family give it a miss.

Servers are rude and grumpy. I have eaten at this restaurant loads of times already. The food is delicious, but the waiters do not speak good English, and they are very impatient and rude. When visiting with an allergic guest, they were pissed when asked what could be prepared without contamination. Out of their incredibly long menu, just one dish has been signaled as safe. Unfortunately, the dish itself was not very good. They made my guest uncomfortable, and he felt unwelcomed in the restaurant.

I booked a table and there was anyway a terrible queue. Someone has gone for waiting too much. The allergens was not indicated . I'm allergic at milk and they said me that there was JUST ONE dish safe for me (in 7 pages of menù). I took that, and it was not different from hospital food. The waitress was also annoyed about a simple request: pay attention to contamination for allergens. Worst service ever. Never more

Had yet another wonderful meal here. My mum and I came for a nice dinner and as ever haven't been disappointed. The squid with garlic and chilli is by far the best one I ever had. The slices are big, juicy and soft. The balance of chilli and garlic is perfect. The Mongolian beef is my favourite Chinese dish so far.

They say that a clientele indigenous to the style of food is a good sign and if this restaurant is anything to go by that is true. There are of course lots of Chinese people in Oxford it being a university town and on the night of our visit at least 50% of the customers were Chinese which added to the ambience of the place. As some others have said, the service did seem a bit rushed but the food was absolutely fantastic - probably the best Chinese/ Cantonese We have ever had. I think the food is not toned down to the English palette as much as your average Chinese restaurant which is a good thing. I can whole heartedly recommend this restaurant without hesitation

We wanted a meal at 9.30pm and it was great to find a place that took us so late served us quickly and the food was good. Would recommend

Most terrible food! Inedible! It was impossible to chew the duck dish. Very greasy. It was as if we were eating something from the bin!

Visited on a Monday night without a reservation. Was shown to a table immediately. The restaurant was very busy too. The menus has a good selection of dishes. My daughters Bulgarian boyfriend had never eaten Chinese food before so we each chose a dish chicken/prawn/veg with rice and crackers. Portions were plentiful between the three of us. All super fresh & hot, tasty too. Service was prompt with no fuss. I don’t eat out often but this meal was a treat. Reasonably priced. Will definitely recommend and add to my favourite restaurant list.

The staff is rude and they misbehave with customers. They criticise the customers in Chinese so that the non-Chinese customers cannot understand what they are saying. My Chinese friend told me that they were criticising me in Chinese. They literally extort tips from the customers. Food is very average at best.

We were delighted that it has been allowed to reopen following the most recent lockdown and we were not disappointed when we visited at lunch time today. La decoración es moderna y elegante, lo que brinda una experiencia acogedora y atmosférica. El servicio al cliente fue excelente. Pero lo que realmente destaca es la comida.Aquí no hay salsas precompradas o producidas en masa. Todo tenía un sabor fresco y hecho a mano, así como de alta calidad. 4 of us called in without booking. We were made welcome & even though it was busy they managed to find a table for us. We were amazed at the selection on the menue. We looked around at the other diners & everything we saw looked so delicious... it was so difficult to choose what to have. The waitress gave us a lot of help & eventually we made our decision, unfortunately my dish I actually found was too hot/spicy for me ( so it was I who had made a wrong choice for my self ) the waiter noticed & immediately helped me to choose a different dish & did not make me feel uncomfortable about it in anyway. It was absolutely delicious & also my 3 friends all said their food was also delicious. All of the staff were so busy ( & there were many of them ) & yet they all work with beautiful smiles

I've been wandering past this place for a decade without giving it a second thought. Apparently I was missing out on some rather good Chinese food! The menu is "deep*, with something for virtually anyone, and plenty of superb spicy options. Service was slow, but the place was at capacity so I don't hold that against them. Will return.

We went there with friends for an evening meal. The mixed starter was a meal in itself and the duck pancakes were superb. There was a mix up with the ordering but the Manager immediately appeared and gave us an apology and free drinks.

My son had an interview the next morning and I was looking for somewhere we could get a decent meal and relax. New Dancing Dragon totally delivered. Staff were friendly and attentive. The decor was stylish and comfortable. The food was an absolute triumph, We shared the mixed starters which were excellent and pretty substantial on their own. For mains, my son opted for the sweet and sour king prawns while I had the double cooked belly pork slices, and we shared a special fried rice. It was all delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. We are both able to put it away when the mood takes us but there was no room whatsoever for dessert. We left very full and very happy.
